Janice,

it's going to be on Sunday afternoon, June 28th at 2:30- The location is Baumhower's Wings Restaurant on Balmoral Drive in Huntsville- This is just off Airport Road West, very easy to find, across from the Steinmart shopping center. Hope that helps.

Jim

Janice, as Jim said, we'll be meeting at Wings off of Airport, 2:30.

On another note, saw of Facebook where you just retired after 35 years of teaching......Congratulations !!!! I am just finishing my 4th year of retirement after 33 years of teaching, there is nothing like it- Every day is  Saturday and every Saturday is summer vacation- You won't feel the full effect of it until August when you see all those yellow school buses out on their routes, and you think "Wait a minute.......I don't have to go here"- Wishing you the best, you're going to love it.

We'll see you on the 28th, congratulations again.......John.

About the sidewalk.  Has anyone with experience looked to see if 40 year old concrete could be dug up & moved?  Looks to me because of all the cracks and weathering that it would crumble!

Where is the survey JD, thanks, Frank is right also, depends on condition if it is still together.

Look over on the left column of links. Find "Save the Sidewalk!". It will be just above Member Functions and just below Home Page.

Frank, I went by a few weeks ago to see how it looked- Excavation and bracing is going to be a major issue, because there are spots where a slight miscalculation could lead to a full section breaking away from the whole piece- It will be a job to keep whatever structural integrity it still has intact.

I'm pretty sure it would have to be sectioned into smaller pieces. But I don't think this is an impossible idea either. AFTER ALL - our class is full of rocket scientists and rednecks, both types being renowned for their enginuity, so I think we can find solutions.

Whatever y'all do, first take a picture; several photos close up and in context of it's surroundings. At least we'll have that if we cannot salvage the slab intact...  just sayin'

I had a thought that we might want to take a mold or casting of it, so that if it crumbles when we try to take it up, at least we could re-create a facsimile.

I have not been by to look at the sidewalk in a while, and my neurons have slowed down a bit over the last 41 years.  How long is it?  20', 40' or??  I'd expect it would need to be cut up with an abrasive saw into sections and moved piecemeal.  We could do that.

Humm - the taking a cast of thing got me thinking - in addition to saving current sidewalk - next major reunion (45) -create something and present that something to be installed at the new campus - though we have time to think on this thought.

We have a major undertaken already on the books...

Evading paparazzi, a gang of Grissom Alumni (class of '74) low level mafia leaders and their mob wives met at a secret locale (Carabbas in the mall) last week in Huntsville to plot future secret meetings over dinner. At the nefarious rendezvous were Harry Crews (head School jokester) and wife Theresa, John Cochran (alleged Bama game fixer) and wife Kay, Rick Shrout (Auburn gambling addict) and wife Kay Shrout and loner J.D. Webster (alleged illegal immigrant and rumored muscle of the group). Conspicuous in their revelry, they nevertheless enjoyed a great evening together. Remarked investigators later - this "over-the-hill" gang has been around and causing us trouble for a long time, but we just can't pin anything on them yet.

I am seeking to understand if I am the only one that experiences this:  when we gather the classmates I visit with gets younger and younger in appearance until it is like being in high school again and no aging.

Yes, Tony, as Drs Zitsch and Willis will attest and confirm, it is called "generative rejuvenahyskulessience."

This is where Art and I were this weekend...

Secret City Festival, Oak Ridge, TN to see Three Dog Night.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuEwcr52QXw&app=desktop

Pay particular attention to Prayer for the Children which is the next to last song.

The concert brought back such fond memories of high school. I am so glad we were able to go. One memory that stands out was sitting with Jimmy Weatherly's on his mom's front porch waiting for my dad to pick me up from a day of horseback riding (I boarded my horse there). Anyway, Jimmy had a little transistor radio and I remember Joy to the World coming on.

Alisa, I always loved TDN, one of the '60s bands that has truly endured- I'm sure a lot of folks on here remember when they came to Milton Frank our senior year, that was an awesome concert- The opening act was Dr. Hook, let's just say they had probably fired up too many of those funny cigarettes pre-show- They were terrible, but TDN was one for the ages.
