45th REUNION class gift

Allyssa Tilghman and Erick Edwards with Harvey Sharp Wooten

Harvey Sharp Wooten presented The Grainger High School Class of 1964 Scholarships to  Erick Edwards and Alyssa Tilghman.  They each received $1666. Erick and Alyssa graduated fom Kinston High School and will be attending Lenoir County Community College.   They are both lovely young people and were so very grateful for our help.  Thank you to all the members of our class who contributed to this fund.

Original letter to classmates:

Dear Classmates of GHS 1964,

I hope this letter finds everyone doing well and planning to attend the reunion in June.  It will be wonderful, as ever, to be together again.

While planning for this reunion, the idea was discussed for our class to give two scholarships to a deserving boy and girl graduating from Kinston High School and attending Lenoir Community College.  This seemed to be a good way for "our class" to give back to "our Kinston" in a double positive manner.  The recipients would be selected by LCC under the guidelines of scholastic achievement and financial need.

In order to make this possible, and if you share our enthusiasm for this project, we are asking for a donation in any monetary amount that you feel comfortable giving.  The value of the scholarships will be determined by the amount of money we collect.

A tax deductible check may be made to LCC Foundation with attention Grainger High School Class of 1964 Scholarship Fund.

You may send your scholarship check to Jane Ann Walter along with your reunion information.  Even if you are not coming to the reunion, you may participate in this, and we hope you will.  PLEASE MAKE THE SCHOLARSHIP CHECK SEPARATE FROM ANY OTHER REUNION MONEY!!  We would like to have all scholarship donations in by the end of April since the scholarship will be given before our reunion.

All my best to you,

Harvey Sharp Wooten
