WOW! WOW! WOW! What an enjoyable weekend. My Hat goes off to the planning committee for all the 'hard' work. My wife, Gloria, thoroughly liked meeting everyone and all the festivities. It was a pleasure to share in the present but also to reflect on the past;after all,it only took me 45 years to attend. Yes, it was my first however,we are already planning to be at the 50th.May GOD bless everyone and keep all in Good Health!

What a wonderful weekend. I LOVED seeing everyone. There is never enough time to catch up with each other. Isn't it great to have this web site. I know lots of us will stay in touch until the next reunion. Those that weren't able to come you were missed. Hope you can make our 50th. Plans will be starting soon. If you have suggestions would love to hear from you.
I am so happy Mother was able to go to our Sat. BBQ. She enjoyed seein you all.
With all the fun there is saddnes that it is over. I miss you all and look forward to continued emails.

I echo the other responses.. this past reunion was the best ever!!! I was so sad with such a let-down feeling Sunday afternoon and into Monday. I did not want our reunion to end... and 5 years seems like so far away.
Those of you who were not able to attend.. you'll just have to endure these accolades and make sure to be there for our 50th!!!!
I love all of you and hope to hear from you through our web page.
All my best to you, Harvey Sharp Wooten

Francis, Grace and I enjoyed every minute of the reunion weekend and were sorry we had to miss Sunday morning, but we had the Bullock family dinner that day. Thanks to everyone who helped and a great big thanks to those of you who came. Without you, the committee would just have to meet, eat, and look at each other! We're looking forward to keeping in touch for the next five years and gathering again in 2014. Allyson

What a great Reunion! Joe and I had such a wonderful time. We are still talking about the weekend and are already planning to come to the next get together. Our thanks to the Committee for all their hard work. It is so good of those in the Kinston area to take the time to organize Reunions so that those of us who are in other parts of the country can come and see everyone. We enjoyed all the events and were sorry to miss the one on Sunday morning, but we had to make the trip back to Alabama. If any of you are in the area, please look us up. We would be so glad to see you.

What an incredible event! My hat's off to the planning committee! But then again, we were the best class to ever graduate from Grainger High so we should expect perfection, right? It was like stepping back in time. The memories became real again. The faces, though somewhat altered by the effects of time, were the same, and the names came back as if it were only last week that we had seen each other last. May we all remain safe and well till we meet again.

P.S. If you get the urge for a little adventure and happen to come to Kauai, Hawaii, look us up. Bev and I would love to show you around. Peace and blessings, Ashton & Bev

Thanks to the reunion committee for a wonderful weekend. I can't begin to say how much I enjoyed it! I am sorry to have missed the Sunday morning event, but my job as organist prevented my attending. I am looking forward to staying in touch via this website and hope that all members of our class will attend the next one. Thanks to all who posted pictures!

This is a letter sent to our class from Alyssa Tilghman, one of the recipients of our class scholarship:

DEAR CLASS OF 1964,
I WANT TO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE GRAINGER HIGH CLASS OF 1964 SCHOLARSHIP. YOUR GENEROSITY IS GOING TO BE A TREMENDOUS HELP TO ME AND MY FAMILY. MY PARENTS HAVE BEEN SUPPORTIVE AND ENCOURAGING TO ME AND MY BROTHERS. THEY HAVE WORKED HARD TO HELP US BECOME THE BEST WE CAN BE. THE ECONOMIC STATE OF OUR COUNTRY HAS HIT EVERYONE AND BY RECOGNIZING ME WITH THIS SCHOLARSHIP, YOU HAVE ALLOWED ME TO TAKE SOME OF THE FINANCIAL BURDEN OFF OF MY FAMILY. GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY IN WHICH YOU GREW UP IS A WONDERFUL THING AND IT IS MY DESIRE TO DO THE SAME. AS I PURSUE MY DEGREE IN RADIOLOGY IT IS MY PLAN TO WORK HERE IN LENOIR COUNTY. IF UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES THAT I SHOULD MOVE AWAY, I WILL NEVER FORGET WHERE I CAME FROM AND THE GENEROSITY THAT WAS SHOWN TO ME BY MY COMMUNITY. I PROMISE TO WORK HARD AND HOPEFULLY MAKE YOU ALL VERY PROUD. AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP AND YOUR CONFIDENCE IN ME.

SINCERELY,
ALYSSA TILGHMAN

Very sorry to hear about the passing of Herbie Spear. He had a great personality and was a good friend to all his Grainger classmates. He will be missed by all.

Yes. John we are all getting old. I will turn 65 on Wed Jan 19.  My husband and about 45 of my friends are joing me for a birthday and Medicare card party at a local restaurant Jan16.  There will be music from a friend, my nephew and my great neice(Leah Frances).  My nephew and Max have prepared a slide show of my life. That should be a hoot. Two friends from Greenville will hold a croning ceremony which is an old Celtic tradition of honoring the wisdom of women who have attained a certain age.(old).  I can't wait.

Max and I went to Australia to visit friends last fall. They live just north of Sydney.  Max and Gary are both Masons and had lots in common. Max also discussed the Shriners and the Childrens Hospitals with several masonic groups.  They are beginning to form Shrine groups there.  Gae and I got along great.  They are planning to visit us this Dec. We loved Australia and recomment it to anyone.  We went to Uluru,(Ayers Rock) Sydney, Penrith, and Canberra. It was however a very long flight there and back-New Bern to Atlanta,Atlanta to Lax and then 14 hours to Sydney.  Max took tons of photos. Now we skype with them and talk often. Technology is wonderful. Max handles all that. He says I am an analog girl in a digital world. He is right ,but I have other redeeming qualities.

Dawn & I really enjoyed the reunion this past week-end.  We were unable to attend Saturday night or Sunday morning as my brother who lives in Florida was at the coast for the week-end and we wanted to spend some time with him.  The planning committee did a great job at putting it all together.  Seeing you all was a renewing experience for me personally.  It would be nice given that time is marching on for us all, to consider a mini-reunion in maybe two and a half or three years.   Thanks to all of you for a great time!

Thanks. It was a lot of fun and good to see you guys after a good while. We'll see what the committee's thoughts are regarding our next gathering. Thanks for your thoughts.

I would like to express sincere thanks to each member of the reunion committee. I have some idea of how much planning goes into events like this. Though I was only able to attend the country club event because this weekend fell in the middle of our first two weeks at the beach and I have a badly misbehaving back, planning several days of events is no small task. So first and foremost, thank you for a first class reunion.

It was wonderful to see each and everyone I had the opportunity to visit with. Stepping back into youthful memories, if only for a short while, is invigorating. Thanks so much for the cd and the Shutterfly book so that reliving the past is even easier. I love it!!!

I hope we can do another reunion in the future. Again, sincerest thanks to the committee, and each and every classmate. To quote Bob Hope, "Thanks for the memories."

I want to thank each member of the Reunion Committee for their hard work in planning our 50th.  Each reunion is better planned and better organizd than the others.  It is hard to believe you guys can continually out do your selves.  Every event was first class.  Hubert is right the girls are still beautiful. The guys, not so much.

Kinston & GHS in the 60s was a special place and time.  Our reunions are a pleasant reminder of those wonderful times.

The "All Red Devils Reunion" at Morehead seems to be occuring every two years.  Maybe we could consider a breakfast or lunch for our 64 class that same weekend.

It was great to see everyone, I look forward to the next one.

Jimmy

Thanks Jim for your coments.  It was a great weekend.

i was thinking the same thing the other day and mentioned it to Allyson.  Many of the classes do a class thing on Sat the weekend of the all Class reunion down here.  I think it would be fun to have something on Sat and go to the reunion either one or both nights.  Let's think seriously about it

If you have one , I will be there! Today I have spent hours on the Grainger website for the first time, thanks to Don Gay. It was wonderful to see all of the class of '64 who attended the reunion. Also, I really appreciate all of my friends on Face Book who sent pictures . They sent lots of messages telling me names of those in them! This site is wonderful.

Just a note to say thanks for a fabulous week-end of catching up, great food, lots of smiles, hugs, laughs, and memories.  I feel like we are the luckiest class from Grainger High School ever to have such an awesome planning committee!  I tried to "visit" with everyone to extend best wishes, but alas,  just couldn't get around to all.  Thanks, everyone, for all those fond memories of growing up together in Kinston during a very special time, indeed.   Health, happiness, and love to you all!  Looking forward to our next get-together.   Billie Spruill Best
