KINSTON - Mrs. Ann Lane Whitlow, 67, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at her home surrounded by those she loved. She is the daughter of the late Richard Berry and Polly Kirkman Lane.

The funeral service will be held at Saint Mary's Episcopal Church Saturday, August 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Michael Singer officiating and the Reverend Thomas Warren preaching. The family will receive friends and family at the church parish hall immediately after the service.

Ann graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught 2nd grade for 21 years at Southwood Elementary School. She loved those she taught and assisted many with special needs outside the class room. Her co-workers remained her life-long friends. She loved books and was an avid reader. She also loved beautifying her home and yard. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and her witty and captivating personality. Of her many friends, the "Grainger Girls" will always hold a special place in her heart.

The focus of her life was her family. She was the mother of five children and eight grandchildren, and expressed often her gratitude for the years she was a stay-at-home mom. She is survived by her brother, Richard Berry Lane Jr. and wife Linda, of Greenville, N.C.; her husband, Douglas MacArthur Whitlow and their children, son Richard Douglas Whitlow and wife Katherine, of Corona, Calif., son Dr. Christopher Thomas Whitlow and wife Becky, of Winston-Salem, N.C., daughter Sara Elizabeth Figlow and husband Steven, of Boone, N.C., son John Lane Whitlow of Austin, Texas, and daughter, Anna Christine Whitlow of Greenville, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Southwood Elementary School Media Center, 1245 Hwy 58 South, Kinston, NC 28504. Arrangements are with Edwards Funeral Home.
