Brilliant, teaser, fun loving, athletic, energetic, funny and a friend are words to describe Marvin. We kept in touch until the end and talked for two hours two weeks before he passed. He tested computer programs for the government to see if they worked as they should and he loved his fascinating job. When at Meredith College, we would spend Saturday afternoons in a classroom where he would try to tutor me in math!! He is sorely missed.
Gaye, I too remember his great humor, and also how good he was in math. I am certain he would be pleased to know that he is remembered so fondly, especially by you.
So sorry to learn of Marvin's death. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was a friend to all, and was very intelligent. Saddened over his passing and the loss of yet another one of our own.
We were in homeroom together in high school, and he routinely made jokes while we were in class. He was hilarious. He tried to help me in math, but I was a dismal failure. Some afternoons he would stop by the house on his way home after school. Marvin was special, indeed.
What I remember best about Marvin is his love of math. He was in my math class all four years and was always seeking a challenge - the harder the problem the better. I don't think he was ever stumped. He and Davis Hays seemed to have a rivalry in that department, but if either of them did better, it seemed to be Marvin. At least that is the way I remember it. He was always willing to help those of us who were less quick at math than he was, Mrs. Sutton could always count on Marvin to have the answer, even when the rest of us were stumped. He was a good person and an asset to the class.

He was also a good friend of mine. Very smart guy. Do you know when and how he died? I think cancer. Any chance Vietnam was a factor ?

Marvin was also a good friend of mine. We played basketball together at Fairfield and later JV for Coach Emory at Grainger.
