Why you ask.  Well first, greetings and salutations one and all.  My opinion is that some individuals feel they are better than anyone else and they deserve to be placed on a pedestal and worshipped by everyone else.  Remember "A Man Who Would Be Kind"?  One of my favorites.  There never seems to be "enough" to satisfy some people.  Many start their political rise with good intentions but - how does that saying go - perfect power corrupts perfectly.  A taste of power and you are hooked - its addicting!  Okay, now your turn.  Why do you think anyone would want to seek political office?  In the mean time I'll entertain the masses with a bit of humor.  Hope everyone is having a great week.  Later.

A business man got on an elevator in a building. When he entered the elevator, there was a blonde already inside and she greeted him by saying, “T-G-I-F” (letters only).

He smiled at her and replied, “S-H-I-T” (letters only).”

She looked at him, puzzled, and said, “T-G-I-F” again.

He acknowledged her remark again by answering, “S-H-I-T.”

The blond was trying to be friendly, so she smiled her biggest smile and said as sweetly as possibly “T-G-I-F” another time.

The man smiled back to her and once again replied with a quizzical expression, “S-H-I-T.”

The blond finally decided to explain things, and this time she said, “T-G-I-F, Thank Goodness It’s Friday, get it?”

The man answered, “Sorry, Honey, It’s Tuesday.”

I was just reading the news and saw where the President said that God wants his jobs bill passed and then his press secretary came out to clarify what PBO meant.  Well what was re-affirmed by watching what was actually said was - THIS ADMINISTRATION DOESN'T KNOW THE BIBLE FROM A SUPERMAN COMIC BOOK!!!!!  So, Dear Mr. President, please let me help:

2 Thessalonians 3:10

New International Version (NIV)

10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

Just checking in before the weekend to say "hi". Gary, as usual, you are a symphony of humor and seriousness, but I enjoy your tune. Politics fascinate me, but frustrate me even more. I don't know why anyone would seek a high office in our country, because it is so brutal. I wish I could believe there are those who are true patriots and want to serve selflessly. However, like one of my brother's once said so eloquently, "If you passed gas under the covers 20 years ago, they're gonna bring it up and hold it against you". Since most have committed such a crime, it takes a fearless person to enter politics. I guess it's like going onto the battlefield; you do it because you believe in something enough to fight for it, even if it comes at great cost. I get irritated with both parties, just at different times.

Y'all have a wonderful weekend. We will be going to a funeral home visitation about an hour west of us tonight, so it won't be a "fun" night, but important to our friends that we do this. It's a beautiful, sunny day, but brisk and breezy. If I had a magic wand I would go "poof", and have a bonfire, hayride, caramel apples, hot cider, and weenies to roast tonight. But I don't got one of those things.

God bless all....

11/04/11 03:54 PM #2513

Gary Grice

Madam, your wish is my command - albeit vicariously.  Your hayride and fire for roasting hotdogs.  (Sorry, I spilled the hot cider.)  Whatever happened to those days when life was slower and we had time for such things.  I miss them so much.  Later.

Well, mates... the political question I raised has been eloquently answered by both Gary and Diane.  I guess I knew the answer before I even asked.  The cynic in me would say that those who seek higher office, especially the Presidency of the United States, are seeking FAME, FORTUNE, and POWER.  And I suppose that most people would have an oversized ego and a streak of arrogance to even think about running for President.  But I do believe there are some out there with higher motives, and I thank God for those who feel "called" to a higher purpose, to serve and guide this country and make it a better place in which to live.  Even as I see the land I love being transformed from a free country to a socialist, government-controlled country, I believe that GOD is still in control, and those who love freedom will ultimately prevail.  May God Bless America!

Have a great weekend, mates!  Remember to turn your clocks back.  And GO DAWGS!  (hope they can find a running back for tomorrow's game).

Hi friends:

I hope you have all had an enjoyable week-end.  It sure was a beautiful one!   Even prettier because of that UGA win.

Jim, did you get a deer?

The lady I thought was going to rent my parents house won't be.    She had things fall thru with selling hers.   If you know of anyone wanting to rent a house in Crawford, keep me in mind..  :)

Gary, how is your "to do list" coming along??

Don, didn't I hear that Denzel Washington has been in Marietta filming a movie??   Have you run into any of the famous?

I understand that Gail Gabriel's dad is having serious health issues.   I know we will want to remember them in our thoughts and prayers.

At our recent gathering there was a lot of talk about retirements and Social Security.   Has anyone come up with some affordable health insurance for me???   I am so open to ideas!  It looks like I will have to continue to work for years just to be able to buy "group" insurance.

You all take care.  You are thought of so often.   Love you.

RITE NOW THAN LAST YEAR. I'M PROUD OF THEIR COME BACK!

ON ANOTHER NOTE GUY'S AND LADIES, OUR MAN HERMAN SHO IS

Good evening mates...

Connie... I haven't seen any celebrities here lately.  And I didn't know that Denzel was in town again.  But I see online that he is shooting a new movie called "Flight" here in the metro area.  If you remember, he did a movie here in Marietta back in 2000... "Remember the Titans"... shot at Sprayberry High School.  If I see him, I'll tell him that you asked about him.  :-)

Jim... I too was checking both those games Saturday night, back and forth.  The South Carolina/Arkansas game was one of those where I very much DISLIKE both the coaches, Spurrier and Petrino, but I had to go with the Razorbacks to help our Bulldogs.  And the LSU/Alabama game was a great matchup of two great defensive teams.  I think if those two teams were to play each other 10 times, they would probably each win 5 games.  But our DAWGS have to take care of their own business first and beat Auburn this Saturday... and then take care of Kentucky.  I hope that our players can stay out of trouble this week.  I had high hopes for Isaiah Crowell, but he sure has a discipline problem.  Then if we do get a chance to play in the SEC Championship game... fantastic!  It would be a tough game, but I'd love to take our chances against whoever wins the SEC west.  GO DAWGS!

And I tend to agree with you on the political thing, Jim.  They are really going after Herman now because he's the front runner.  I can't condone any sexual harassment, IF there was any, but what really bothers me is the DOUBLE STANDARD on the part of the mainstream media.  They didn't seem to care so much back when Bill Clinton RAPED Juanita Broderick, and before that when Ted Kennedy DROWNED Mary Jo Kopecne.  But Bill and Ted were liberal Democrats and the media bias is so obvious.  However, if you're a conservative and even pick your nose, the liberal media will crucify you.  Like you, I honestly believe that Newt Gingrich is the most qualified of all the candidates running for President.  He has more intelligence and wisdom than all the rest and has a better understanding than any of the others about what got us into this mess and how to get us out of it.  He would eat Obama alive in a real debate of the issues.  Ultimately, I will vote for Cain or Gingrich or Romney or whoever wins the nomination and faces Comrade Obama in the election.  We HAVE to get him out of office... this country can not afford 4 more years of these marxists.   If it came down to it, I would rather have a President who is a patriotic "sexual harasser" who loves FREEDOM and capitalism, than an obnoxious, arrogant, anti-American socialist who loves GOVERNMENT control and liberal policies.  That's my opinion, folks... I welcome yours.

Have a great week, mates!

Greetings and salutations one and all.  I trust everyone had a good weekend and a great start on an even better week.  I am thankful to have my beautiful wife back home.  Our youngest daughter had surgery last Tuesday and Grandma had to take care of the grandkids.  After running after a 2 & 4 year old, she was pretty bushed on Sunday.  Our son-in-law is off work this week so no need for Grandma but her services will probably be required again starting next week.  Taking it one day at a time.  Don, we appear to be on the same sheet of music politically.  I really like Herman Cain and think its disgraceful that there are such attacks against him.  The strongest point for Herman Cain is that he's not a politician.  The weakest point for Herman Cain is that he's not a politician.  By far the smartest man in the race is Newt.  Even the democrats recognize that.  He is the most politically savy individual as well, which I think works against him with us conservatives.  My heart says Herman but my head says Newt.  Maybe PBO will take a hint from all of the European leaders who are resigning!  But then I think the only thing worse that Obama would be Biden!  That man needs to go to his home at the Naval Observatory and watch the clock!  One day he's going to trip over his tongue and hurt himself.  Anywho, another beautiful fall day here in the Classic City.  Its been a while since we've heard from Dennis so maybe a little lawyer humor will stir him into comment.  Later.

One day, a lawyer named Strange died, and his friend asked the tombstone maker to inscribe on the tombstone, ‘Here lies Strange, an honest man and a lawyer.’

The inscriber insisted that such an inscription would be confusing, for any passer-by would tend to think that three men were buried under the stone.

However he suggested an alternative: He would inscribe, ‘Here lies a man who was both honest and a lawyer.

‘That way, whenever anyone walked by the tombstone and read it, they would be certain to remark: ‘That’s Strange!’

I think WHEN I grow old... I want to be a ROMEO. :-)     I saw a local TV report on one of those Atlanta morning news/talk shows where the reporter was visiting a restaurant in Newnan, Georgia and interviewing some of the locals. There was a group of about a dozen old men there who regularly gather for breakfast and cuss and discuss the news and events of the day, and generally have a good time. And they call themselves ROMEO's...                     Retired Old Men Eating Out.

And speaking of the life of leisure... I found this photo of our buddy Jim on his tree stand hunting deer...

Greetings and salutations one and all and a VERY HAPPY VETERANS' DAY to all of my comrades in arms.  I was reading through some profiles yesterday and noticed that Jimmy T. had posted a comment on Walter Gillen's page that he had served in the military at some point prior to this death.  I immediately corrected his information.  If you know of any other such omissions, please send me an email and I'll fix it.  And while you are checking other profiles, please look at updating your information as well.  As always, please let me know if you need assistance.  Hope everyone has a GREAT DAY and a wonderful weekend.  Later.

Good Morning Dear Friends....Just taking a break from cleaning house. We are having some new folks at church over for supper tonight, so I am trying to spiff up the place so they won't know how we really live.

Gary, I am glad you were able to add Walter's service to his profile. Thanks for doing that. It's very touching that even though he has been gone so long, we are thinking of him. My gratitude to veterans every where, and that especially includes you fellas from our class who served us so well.

Better go. I am not feeling 100% this morning, and I keep taking breaks. It feels kinda like morning sickness, but I'm pretty sure that's not it.

My deepest affection to each one who might read this. You mean more to me than you know.

Good Monday Morning, Mates...

Hope you all had a nice weekend!  We had a very busy one here in Metro Atlanta.  After Liz and I had dinner with some friends on Friday night, I had a Saturday morning date with my leaf blower.  I worked in the yard for a few hours before the Auburn game.  And what a game it was!... the DAWGS just chewed up those Tigers, Jim!  After our two loss start to the season, it's hard to believe we are in a great position to go to the SEC Championship game if we can beat Kentucky here Saturday.  Wow!

Actually I only got to see the first half of Saturday's game, but the Bulldogs had a pretty comfortable 35 - 7 halftime lead.  Liz and I had previously made other "Sweet Auburn" plans for Saturday night.  We joined a group of friends from our church (11 of us were packed into one van) and went to Downtown Atlanta and visited Big Bethel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in the "Sweet Auburn" Historic District. Have any of you ever visited an AME church?  Big Bethel AME was founded in 1847 before the Civil War and has the distinction of being the oldest predominantly African-American congregation in the Atlanta area. We thoroughly enjoyed their annual presentation of "HEAVEN BOUND", a wonderful Musical/Drama production that has been performed every year for the last 81 years.  It is the story of about 24 pilgrims on their journey to the hereafter, hounded by Satan every step of the way. It was one of the best musicals we've seen in years, an inspiring message mixed with lots of laughter and good southern gospel music.  "Heaven Bound" is a wonderful Atlanta tradition, and I highly recommend it if you ever have the opportunity to see it.

After the musical, we made a late night stop for something to eat at another Atlanta tradition, the VARSITY on North Avenue across from Georgia Tech.  "What'll ya have?... what'll ya have?"  After checking the final score to see that Georgia won, 45-7, we pigged out on chili dogs, burgers, fries and onion rings.  It brought back lots of memories for me of my college days.  When I was a Ramblin' Wreck at Georgia Tech, I lived in Smith Dorm, right across the expressway from the Varsity, and I spent many Sunday nights there with other Tech students chowing down on chili dogs and watching "Mission Impossible" and "The Smothers Brothers" in their TV dining rooms.  Then I came to my senses and transferred to UGA!  GO DAWGS!

Have a great week, mates!  Reporting live from Bulldog Country... this is Don.

HELLO MATES!

YES IT WAS A GREAT WIN THIS WEEKEND DON! I MUST

ADMIT THAT I HAD MY DOUBTS ABOUT IF THE DAWGS

DEFENSE COULD RUN WITH AUBURN. GUESS THOSE WORRIES

WERE UNFOUNDED! THEY PLAYED THE BEST GAME THEY

HAVE PLAYED IN THE PAST THREE YEARS!!! AND IT IS

HARD TO BELIEVE   THAT THEY STARTED 0 AND 2!

NOW IF THEY WIN THIS WEEK THEY WILL BE PLAYING FOR

THE CHAMPIONSHIP! MAN TALKING ABOUT A TURN AROUND!

EVERYONE WAS READY TO AX ALL THE COACHES AFTER

THOSE FIRST TWO GAMES. IT'S JUST AMAZING WHAT A

LITTLE WINNING WILL DO FOR ATTITUDES!!! AND THAT

GOES FOR MINE ALSO!

SO HAVE A GREAT WEEK MATES AND GO DAWGS!

Greeting and salutations one and all and a happy Tuesday!  I am elated today.  The Mystery has been solved!  I'm not sure whether to tell you to hold your belly for the laughter or to grab a tissue, anywho, here goes.   Some years ago Sherron bought this stuffed music box rabbit that had a floppy purple hat.  When you pressed its hand, it played this song that I dearly loved but couldn't find its title.  It was a haunting love song that went: "Who knows how long I've loved you, You know I love you still. Will I wait a lonely lifetime. If you want me to, I will."  Erin, Jackson and Julianna are staying with us this week as Erin continues to recover from her surgery.  Julianna was playing with MY rabbit and the song wouldn't play.  I scrambled around and found a screw driver to fit those tiny screws and opened the music box.  One of the three batteries was corroded.  I worked and worked with it, scrapping and cleaning until I finally got it to play again.  I immediately retreated to my closet (closest thing I have to a sound studio) and recorded that song to my iphone.  At least I have it preserved in case the rabbit dies again.  That near disaster prompted me to re-initiate my search.  So this moring I set about trying once again to find the title to that song and finally - there it was.  "I Will" by the Beatles.  I hope you all have a VERY blessed week and here for your enjoyment, are the lyrics to "I Will".  Later.

Who knows how long I've loved you
You know I love you still
Will I wait a lonely lifetime
If you want me to, I will.

For if I ever saw you
I didn't catch your name
But it never really mattered
I will always feel the same.

Love you forever and forever
Love you with all my heart
Love you whenever we're together
Love you when we're apart.

And when at last I find you
Your song will fill the air
Sing it loud so I can hear you
Make it easy to be near you
For the things you do endear you to me
Oh, you know, I will
I will.

You coaxed me out of my hiding place again, Gary. Loved your story about the music box, and loved the song. Allison has the perfect voice for the sweet lyrics. Before the day is done I will have that song. It sure did suit this rainy, melancholy morning we are having. Hope Erin gets along well.Keep us tuned.

Don and Jim, it is always good to keep up with you two. I feel like I have been to Georgia when I hear from you. Connie, you too, OF COURSE!

God's blessings to all.

Greetings and salutations one and all from the incurable romantic with a warped sense of humor.  I hope everyone is having a GREAT week - us, not so much.  Erin has developed some side issues following her surgery so Sherron is having a time keeping grandkids and playing shuttle service to the doctor.  And me, I got this bronchial thing going on; terrible cough and congestion.  But, this too shall pass.  Nothing to report, just thought I'd check in and brighten everyone's day with a little funny.  Kathy, Rabun should appreciate this one - though I'm sure he has heard it before.  Hope everyone has a great week.  Later.

Gladys Dunn recently moved into a retirement community in a small town.

One beautiful Sunday morning she walked down the street to a church not far from her apartment. Gladys was in awe of the big beautiful church building as she stepped inside to attend the worship service.

Gladys however, wasn't too impressed with the sermon. She thought itwas kind of boring and, as she looked around the church, she noticed that many of the members were nodding off.

When the preacher finished his sermon he encouraged the congregation to greet those sitting close by. Gladys turned toward the man sitting on her left. He, too, had fallen asleep and was yawning and stretching trying to wake up. He smiled at her, and Gladys returned the smile.

She politely offered her hand and said, "I'm Gladys Dunn."

"You and me both!" the man replied.
