HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUDY!!!!!!!!!    and early happy birthday wishe to Kay, Ray and Danny.   Is it just me, or are these years flying by now?

Thanks for the post Edd, and the info on Coach Nix.   I always liked him as my basketball coach and as a teacher...      As far as retirement, I'm one of the few of us still working I think.   But since I have to work, I'm happy to have a job!    I did go to the Social Security office a couple of weeks ago, just for "info".   What I learned is that I can not retirefrown

Don, I was in your neck of the woods yesterday and today...   Sadly, it was for the funeral of a cousin.   I rode around the square in Marietta a couple of times and seeing the Strand theatre and the park in the center of the square sure brought back some memories.   I have good memories of our years of living there, but am forever grateful that my parents chose to move back to Oglethorpe county in the summer of 1962!

I join Diane in saying thanks for the posts and thanks for the laughs.

Hope you all have a good week.

Happy Birthday Wheless twins!  I trust you are both enjoying a day of celebration despite the dreary weather.  (The following words are a Grice Rant so proceed accordingly.) Its amazing how much we (the collective) forget and how much of history is rewritten to accomplish the power lust of many.  In working on our family trees, it becomes evident that the earliest retirement plans were - children.  They were borne to provide for their parents in old age.  Now, the roles have reversed and the children have too often become a burden to their parents.  I heard a news story yesterday that we as a nation are no longer replacing our population, which would require an average of 2.0 children per couple.  We have now dropped to 1.9 per couple.  That on the surface might appear to be a good thing; less food, fewer cars, fewer schools, etc. However, it also means a smaller financial or wage earning base to satisfy the ever increasing spending requirements of our government.  And thus we begin the downward spiral of more and more taxes.  Having encountered several relatives involved in the Civil War during my research, I decided to watch the Civil War series from the History Channel.  The first in the series focused on the cause of the war and events leading up to shots being fired on Ft. Sumpter.  Watching that I was reminded of a FACT that has been forgotten and rewritten to suit modern day politics.  Abraham Lincoln, the signer of the Emancipation Procomation which FREED all slaves, acknowledged greatest President to ever live by most historians, was in FACT, the FIRST PRESIDENT elected from the REPUBLICAN PARTY.  The Republican (GOP) Party was born in opposition to slavery and that history carried through into the 1950's and 60's through the enactment of the Civil Rights Bill.  It was the Democrat Party who opposed the freeing of the slaves and acknowledgement of equal rights.  Now, most minorities identify with the Democrat Party, the very ones who attempted to deprive them of equal access to life, liberty and the persuit of happiness. I thought a little hot air might improve the weather situation so I'll shut up for now and return to my recliner.  I hope you all have a very blessed week and again, Happy Birthday to Ray and Kay.  Later.

Well Gary, I'm aggravated too! I tried to wish Ray and Kay a happy birthday starting at 4 AM this morning, and 3 times after that, but it wouldn't let me post  because it said I had "java script". i don't even know what java script is! It sounds like it has something to do with coffee, but I know that's not right, 'cause I am very knowledgeable about all things coffee related. I HOPE this gets posted, since I see that others have already beat me to the punch with Ray and Kay!

Oh, Gary, thanks for the beautiful jonquil picture. No other flower comes at such a perfect time of the year to brighten our winter weary hearts. Except---my heart will be weary several more weeks, because mine hide out longer that yours do. You sure have a sweet and spry neighbor to plant such beauty. Just remember the promise of the jonquils and it will shake you from that depressing train of thought you just had. Underneath the heavy sod so dark and cold, lies beauty waiting to unfold. ( Hey, I didnt even mean for that to rhyme!)  Just 'cause you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there. Tra-la-la, now I must look at your picture again, because your post after that really sent me to the verge of the cliff!

Back to Ray and Kay. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" you two!!! My memories with you go so far back, and they are all wonderful. I wish you joy and happiness that extend far beyond this particular day. Love you two!

Just to let you know, Diane... I had the same problem with the "javascript" message this morning... but finally got the message through.  What's goin on???

Gary Grice

What is "java script"?  It is the most popular programming language used on the internet.  Not sure why you received an error message, however, I did notice there was a Java update yesterday.  All who had an issue and received an error message could have been caught without the update either on your PC or our website. Glad its working now.  And yes Diane, it does have something to do with coffee.  Their logo is a cup of coffee.

Uh huh, I knew it had sumpin' to do with coffee! Thanks, Gary, for being the brains of this operation. All the other females and I will continue to be the looks.

Have a great day, friends. However, please no talking about how beautiful the weather is, and how you are strolling down jonquil lined country lanes, listening to birds sing. It might be good for your mental health, but not so much for mine. Oh, just to give you more to be concerned about, I will be spending 10 hours next Tuesday in a class to enable me to pack heat when I feel the need, and no, I'm not talking about a hot water bottle. I never thought I'd see the day. Be afraid, be very afraid.....

Greetings and salutations one and all and Happy belated Birthday to any and all I might have missed over the passed week.  We have been busy!  Last Wednesday we saw Elvis perform at a local diner and on Friday toured the Chick-fil-a corporate headquarters.  Monday had 4 of the grandkids at our house and yesterday spent the day in Loganville with the other three.  Wonderful, Wonderful.  Other than that, pretty quiet here in the birth place of anesthesia.  Hope you are all having a blessed week.  Here's a little story to brighten your day.  Later.

A guy is driving around the back woods of Montana and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: ‘Talking Dog For Sale’. He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

“You talk?” he asks.

“Yep,” the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says, “So, what’s your story?”

The Lab looks up and says, “Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping. I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn’t getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I’m just retired.”

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

“Ten dollars,” the guy says.

“Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?”

“Because he’s a liar. He never did any of that stuff.”

Greetings one and all.  Thought I'd drop by and flap my jaw (figuratively) for a few.  After two doctor appoints and retrieving my completed tax returns from the accountant, I NEEDED at treat.  So I headed for the closest Starbucks where I grabbed a Pike's Place and an apple fritter and commenced some people watching. There was one couple having what appeared to be a very nice conversatioin.  The other twenty or so individuals were poking keys or tapping screens.  Some chuckled at something coming through the screen while others were zoned out as if they had become one with the light box they held in their hands.  It struck me as very sad that human interaction has lost its most valuable component; that of looking another person in the eye.  I have always been fascinated by what someone's eyes reveal when they speak or look at you.  Love, hate, disinterest.  One's heart is truly revealed through their eyes. - He said as he poked away at the magical keys that connect him to cyberspace where someone or may no one would read his wondering thoughts. - Any who, if you pass this way and need a good chuckle and are at least aware of texting, the following is for you.  I hope you, whoever and wherever you may be, is having a very blessed week.  Later.

Senior Texting Abbreviations:

* ATD - At the Doctor's

Gary, what great entries! Glad you had a good weekend (weekend before this one past) with family. Sorry about the headache involving taxes. Yuck! I said "taxes"...now I have to go wash my mouth out with soap.

I'll have to write more later. I just had to say I liked your last post about your Starbuck's observations. Well done, and true. I have gotten bad myself. I have grown so accustomed to touching my screen on the iPad, that when Dick was showing me something on our desktop computer recently, I reached over to the monitor screen and tried to turn the page by touching it.. Not the first time I had done that.

More later. Oh, I loved those "senior" text shortcuts you listed! Must practice, but hope I never need some of them!

Anyone out there remember a little Spanish?

A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.

'House' for instance, is feminine: 'la Casa.'

'Pencil,' however, is masculine: 'el lapiz.'

A student asked, 'What gender is 'computer'?'

Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer' should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the feminine gender ('la computadora'), because:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;

3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

(THIS GETS BETTER!)
The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine ('el computador'), because:

1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;

2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;

3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and

4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

The women won.

Happy Birthday to Alvin!  Hope you have a very blessed day and celebrate many more.

I've been everywhere man ..... well almost.

I have been in many places, but I’ve never been in Cahoots. Apparently, you can’t go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone.
I’ve also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there.
I have, however, been in Sane. They don’t have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there, thanks to my friends, family and work.
I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump, and I’m not too much on physical activity anymore.
I have also been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too often.
I’ve been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm.
Sometimes I’m in Capable, and I go there more often as I’m getting older.
One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenaline flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get!
I may have been in Continent, and I don’t remember what country I was in. It’s an age thing.

Belated birthday wishes to Danny, Alvin and Steve...

I still enjoy looking at this site almost daily and the posts that are here!!   There has been no news in Crawford recently...  I did see Edd Lowe last week when I took my "stuff" to get taxes done.

Just wanted to do a quick check-in before leaving for work.   Happy week to all!
