I loved the virtual balloon ride, Gary. I wondered where it was made, because it looked like it could have been around here. Anyway, that's on my bucket list, so one of these days....

Yes, I miss my puppy dog, but she gave us 12 loyal years. I'd have another right now, but I'm trying to let my head over rule my heart. We have to travel so much to visit family, that it's hard to have a pet. But I do miss her, shamefully so. To me a good dog is one of the very best examples of unconditional love this side of heaven. No matter how grumpy I was, how awful I looked, how I may have ignored her, she was always there looking at me devotedly with those big brown eyes, ready to forgive and forget. (Actually Dick's really good at this too, except with hazel eyes) I read a saying somewhere that said, "I wish I was half the person my dog thinks I am." In a year that saw our son go to Iraq and safely return, and saw our new daughter-in-law come through a stem cell transplant, I can give thanks that it was "only" my dog we lost. I pray for friends who are going through truly rough times, and grappling with heartaches of all kinds.

Whoa, I got a bit emotional there. Sorry. Hope everyone has a bright and very happy tomorrow. Wish I was there.

Love,
Diane

Yeah Don, I wish I had won that election too. But since I didn't, I've decided to take on a new, far more important role!! Everyone one enjoy. I just sent it to my grand kids (don't laugh too hard).

I'd like to be the first to comment on your video, Gary, but words fail me. Just too, too cute, and I'm sure it's accurate as well!

HI EVERYONE,

Here is my wishes for a wonderful upcoming Thanksgiving. I know that all of us have, many many things, to be thankful for.

While I love Thanksgiving, my favortie holday is by far Christmas. There is something about the giving that warms the soul. There is something about all the lights and decorations that places the awe of beauty and peacefulness in your heart. It lifts my spirit and brings out the young innocent child-like fantasies I felt as a child. It bring out my belief of nothing being impossible.

MY warmest and best wishes for all.

With regards and respect, but most of all love,
Susan Peterman Harris

We will be heading down the road tomorrow morning for a few days with our families down there, but I wanted to send early Thanksgiving wishes to each of you before I start throwing things into the car. I won't go into all the things I have to be thankful for, but suffice it to say it's a list that is never ending. I must say though that having had the chance to see so many of you again this year is high on the list. It was like re-reading a favorite chapter in a good book.

Happy Thanksgiving old friends, new friends, and rediscovered friends.

Love,
Diane

Gary... got the photo CDs and DVD in today's mail. You did a fantastic job!!! That sure was a lot of hard work on your part. As I said before... you're like the Energizer Bunny... you just keep on giving and giving and giving. God Bless you my friend! What a wonderful keepsake treasure of a wonderful event! Like Diane, I put our September Class Reunion right at the top of the list of the many things I am thankful for this year.

Even though I was unhappy with the election results, and the U. S. economy is turned upside down, and I have been battling a nasty cold for 4 days, I still have more blessings than I can count. Here's wishing all you members of the Class of '68 a very Happy and Safe Thanksgiving! May God bless you and your friends and families.

Love & Hugs,

Don

I wish I had said that:

"When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment and I told them they didn’t understand life."

Have a very HAPPY Thanksgiving!

A Thanksgiving Rememberance
One Thanksgiving when we lived outside Washington, DC, we didn’t have any family or friends in the area to share a Thanksgiving meal with so we decided to eat out. A cafeteria style restaurant close to where I worked was selected for our family celebration. It was nicknamed “the old folks home” because everyday about noon many of the residents from a neighborhood retirement center would walk over to the cafeteria for lunch. It was cool and rainy that day and we arrived early to get ahead of the anticipated crowd. The restaurant was located in a strip mall with a covered walkway so we were out of the weather as we waited. We watched the staff busily preparing the food and then one minute before opening time they all stopped, gathered around the food, held hands and bowed in prayer. We were deeply moved by their unashamed display of faith. Needless to say, the food was very blessed. The big crowd never appeared and we were treated like royalty. They just kept bringing food to our table. I’ve seen many Thanksgivings but this one continues to come to mind as one of my most special. I pray that each of you have a “special” Thanksgiving this year. May God richly bless your celebration of His faithfulness.

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I share the sentiments of those who said that our reunion time of renewing acquaintances and sharing memories ranks high on my list of things I am VERY thankful for!

Gary, the check is in the mail. Now, when can I expect my DVD? Thank you again for all your work!

My thoughts and love to all of you.

Connie and anyone else who has not received your CD's and DVD (other than Dale) should check with Ray. (I finally gave up on going by his house and mailed them yesterday.) Ray has all of the "locals" - probably at his office. Give him a call if he hasn't already called you. He would probably appreciate some help with their distribution. I have already received several checks and I am not creating a retirement fund folks!!! The funds expended were minimal (another reason for not mailing them all). Not knowing the financial situation of everyone, I just wanted to make sure no one missed out because they "couldn't afford it". I learned a long time ago that it truly is more blessed to give than to receive. Everyone have a great week!!!

Gary, when we got back home Sunday afternoon and started going through the mail we saw a mysterious envelope from Katie Lane in Watkinsville. Like we always do, we stood there for several seconds trying to remember who we knew on Katie Lane in Watkinsville, knowing it sounded vaguely familiar. When we finally gave up and opened it we said, "Gary Grice--of course!" Thank you so very much for your time and expense. There's no telling how often those DVDs will take us down memory lane in the years to come.

Hope Thanksgiving was extra special for everyone. We enjoyed visiting my sister and her family for a couple of days in Greensboro, and then had the big feast in Norcross with Dick's extended family. We spent the pretty day Friday raking leaves, trimming back bushes, etc. at Dick's parents home in Athens, anticipating putting it on the market within the next few months. We left Dick's brother's house Saturday AM, in time for Walt to get to the ballgame where he took great glee in the outcome. (A Tech grad and the black sheep of the family. Kidding of course, we love him in spite of his past choices.)

Heartfelt love to all of you.

I guess we have to let Georgia Tech win one every eight years or so, but it’s still a bummer! (Congratulations, Walt!) Since I attended both schools, I guess I am one of those rare birds that actually roots for both the Bulldogs and the Yellow Jackets… except when they play each other. Then I bleed Red and Black. I have some friends at church who are avid Tech fans and we have this annual “wager”, or should I say “agreement.” If Georgia wins, they have to wear Bulldog red to church the following morning and if Tech wins, I wear Georgia Tech yellow. So Sunday morning, true to our agreement, I wore my “yellow” sweater. The Bulldogs have still had a very good year and should have a nice bowl game. Go Dawgs!

Gary… the profile comments feature works great! You came through fine and dandy! It is very nice, but let’s not abandon the message forum with this newfangled technology. I still love to see everyone’s ongoing comments!

Have a great week everyone!

By the way... Connie... There was a great article in Sunday's AJC about the grand re-opening of the restored Strand Theater on the Square in Marietta scheduled for this coming Friday (12/7). You mentioned that you used to go there in your childhood days in Marietta. They had some nice pictures of the renovation with the story. It is going to be very, very nice!... hosting big theater and stage productions as well as classic movies. Sort of a smaller "Fox Theater". I look forward to seeing it soon.

Hi all:

I've been serving on Grand Jury this week - kinda a long week! A nice thing tho was that Mary Booth and Martha Carol Paul (both a couple of years younger than us) and Jimmy Tiller were also on it. Even tho there wasn't much time to "chat", it was nice to see them.

Gary, I went by to pick up the DVD/CD from Ray. Many thanks to all of you that contributed the pictures and to Gary for putting them together! A great keepsake of a great time and group of people!!!

Donald, thanks for the info on the Strand. Funny how just a word can bring back a flood of memories. I am always glad to hear when something is being restored instead of just torn down and forgotton.

I think of y'all often. I'm grateful for this site to stay in touch -

love,
connie

Connie, I too wish Jimmy a big old happy birthday!

I haven't written much 'cause my fingers are too cold. I doubt if it's this cold in my home state. Dick has gone to aid a friend whose car won't start. He took his battery charger along. Did somebody mention a cruise?

Love, and shiver, shiver,
Diane

It's cold here in Georgia too! Brrr!

Hello to everyone and apologies for not corresponding very much here lately. I have been really busy at the finance company (thank goodness) and trying to get in all the doctor appointments before the end of the year.

I am sorry that I have not been able to personally deliver the awesome work that Gary has provided for us. I have enjoyed seeing those who stopped by the office to pick theirs up. I am keeping them at the office in case others are able to stop by.

I enjoyed the visit with Gary when he brought them to me.
We can not thank him enough for all the time and effort and cost that he invested in the project. Thank you, Gary.

I hope that you all had a blessed Thanksgiving and will have an even more-blessed Christmas.

Love you guys,

Ray

Yes, the Message Forum has been a little quiet here lately. I guess everyone is into the Christmas season. Liz and I have already been busy with Christmas parties and Christmas church activities too. But I love this time of year! Liz’s back is doing well enough for her to be singing in the choir for the first time in a few years. She is so happy! They will be performing their big Christmas Musical twice this weekend.

Lots of Christmas movies out there too. Was it you, Gary that is the Tom Hanks fan? A few nights ago we watched “The Polar Express" … again. I love it! The “Donnie” in me loves the wonderful children’s story. It takes me back to the days when I couldn’t wait for Santa to arrive. And the “Donald” in me is always fascinated by the animated/real life technology they used to get the amazing detail in every image. And the “Don” in me just loves the whole package for the Christmas Spirit it has. And speaking of Christmas movies, one of my favorite scenes is the one in “A Christmas Story” where one of Ralphie’s Friends is “double-dog dared” into sticking his tongue on the frozen flag pole in the schoolyard. I know its coming and I still laugh hysterically every time I see it!

Enjoy the season everyone… and don’t forget the real “Reason for the Season”… the birth of Jesus Christ.

Love & Christmas Hugs,
Don

Felt like I needed to pass along the following:

As the holidays begin, I wanted to pass these tips along to you. Enjoy the spirit of the festivities.

1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. It's rare.. You cannot find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an eggnog-alcoholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

4. as for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies or pralines in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple, Pumpkin, Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards. (Personal note: I disagree with this one. I LOVE fruitcake!)

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention. Re-read tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner. Remember this motto to live by:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Have a great holiday season!

Dear Friends,
I've been hoping to get a Merry Christmas message off to everyone, but like you, I've been busy with all the hub bub. I have enjoyed the levity though of the recent posts from Gary and Dennis.

Sadly, we received news tonight that Dick's daddy has had a massive stroke and is not expected to survive. We will be driving down tomorrow after the roads clear of the expected overnight ice and we throw our stuff together. It's so sad, but he has had 89 wonderful, full years. I know there are others among our classmates who are going through things of this nature, so we are not the only ones for sure. I just wanted to let you know, so that those of you who are moved to do so might say a prayer not only for us, but for others as well. I know we'd all appreciate it.

Now, I sincerely hope all of you have a wonderful Christmas. It's a sweet time of the year, and the time when hearts are most tender. We send our love to each of you.

God bless you all,
Diane and Dick
