Connie, Dick and I will be leaving in the morning. It is windy, cold, and spitting snow here, so even though it's chilly down in Georgia, it will be a vast improvement. Also, I will get to see bits of green here and there!

Looking forward to Sunday at 2 PM. We will love seeing whomever shows up, and will miss those who won't be able to.

Now, I must continue with my pre-trip frenzy.

Love,
Diane

Hi all!
I had such a GREAT time seeing so many of you last week-end!! What fun to share old memories, LAUGH, eat too much good food, sing (thanks Sherron for the beautiful piano playing) and make new memories!

(Jimmy, I have wanted to write sooner, but had to wait til a day off of work to have time). I've been asked who was here - so I will try to make a list. If my feeble memory fails me, someone fill in the blanks.
Tommy and Paula Adkins, Dale and Carol Bishop, Beverly Bramlett Burgess, Sheryl Burgess Bridges, Teresa Burt Colwell, Kathy Carter Campbell, Ross Dudley, Janie Etheredge Harris, Gary and Sherron Grice, Dick and Diane Harris Moore, Dennis Helmreich, Connie Morgan White, Inez Nation Rogers, Judy Stewart Findley, Nancy Tucker Griffiths, Kathy Wheless Little, Kay Wheless Smith and Mike, Ray Wheless, Linda Wheless Young and Carl.
Is that right guys -- 25 of us??
(Thanks Gary for the updated address list)

Oh yes, Elvis even dropped in briefly...

It was wonderful to get together again!

We sure did miss those of you who couldn't come!!

Have a good week-end and stay in touch.
I love y'all.
connie

Just to show you how pitifully addicted I am to this site, I have been home less than 10 minutes. I left Greensboro, GA at 4:15 this morning (I just woke up and couldn't go back to sleep, so I just left!) and got here 11 hours later, thankful for a safe journey and no speeding tickets! Haven't even checked my mail yet, or seen my sweet hubby. A terrible addiction, this thing is!

To all who were able to be at Connie's Sunday afternoon, it was just so great to see you, REALLY! I gave myself an A+ for immediately recognizing Cheryl Burgess Bridges, but that's more of a comment on her still youthful appearance than on my memory. The hugs, the laughs, and the "catching up" was a boost to my winter- weary spirit. Dick's too. (I'm gonna have to hog tie him and make him put in his own two cents worth) Connie, thanks for showering a bunch of wonderful Southern hospitality on all of us. The food everyone brought helped add another several inches to what I will jokingly call my waistline.

Well, I am "plumb wore out" as Shakespeare once said, so I will go and check out that pile of mail and see if Publisher's Clearing House sent my check yet.

Oh, and to those of you who were not able to come, we missed you. Now, stay well everyone!

Love,
Diane

Sunday, 3/1/09
Happy March 1!

I'm glad we had our get-together last Sunday instead of today. We have a beautiful snow covering the ground and trees today. (I kinda dread driving to work tomorrow tho)..

Diane, I can assure you that I probably check this site more than you do. I am always so glad to hear from anyone. Sure wish more of you would occasionally write a note.

take care...
love,
connie

I miss Georgia snow. It is so much more fun than Ohio snow.

Everyone have a great week, and be careful driving on the roads in the morning.

Diane,
I'm certain you are glad to be back at your home but I'm sure you enjoyed spending some time with Vivian. It's wonderful to have a sister to visit with, isn't it?
Glad you made it back home without any trouble.
I'm still basking in the memories of the weekend we had together.
I love to read everyone's comments, though I don't always comment myself.
Brrrrrr, we have a cold morning coming in the morning, in the teens. Looking forward to the warm-up for the weekend prediction of 70.

Love to all,

Kathy

I saw this sign recently and thought it describes me:

I AM RUNNING @ 33 RPM IN AN IPOD WORLD.

hope you all have a good day

Hello everyone!!! Hope you all survived the “Blizzard of ’09.” We only had an inch or two accumulated here in Marietta. But the wind that followed was very nasty. One of my neighbor’s trees blew over and fell right across our driveway. We couldn’t get out to the street. I had to spend Monday morning with my chainsaw. Believe me… I am much more at home with a computer or a camera in my hands. Thank goodness the tree did very little damage and missed our house and our cars.

Connie… that makes two of us that feel like we are sometimes running at 33rpm in an ipod world. In fact, I have a love-hate relationship with my computer and only carry a cellphone in self-defense. The truth is, I don’t always want to be able to be reached 24/7.

I really did miss seeing all of you at the class gathering at Connie’s on the 22nd. Have you ever wished you could be in two places at the same time? I had made a prior commitment to be at our Missions Festival at church which kicked off the same day. I had to take photos at two morning worship services, all the Sunday School Classes with Missionaries as guest speakers, and a Missionary Reception following the last service. And Liz sang in the choir for both services. I’m sorry we couldn’t be in Crawford. We would have loved to have seen everyone again. I heard it from a ‘birdie’ (or should I say a fellow ‘catfish’) that you all had a wonderful time, including a little choir of your own with Sherron at the piano. Liz would have fit right in with her voice, but I can’t carry a tune in a milk pail. I sound much better in a congregation of 2,000 people… or in the shower.

Have a great week everyone!!!

Love & Hugs,
Don

PS: Has anyone seen “Slumdog Millionaire”? I have not as yet and am looking for reviews.

SMALL TOWN SOAP BOX FRIDAY, MARCH 6, 2009

Psalm 23
(For the Work Place)
The Lord is my real boss, and I shall not want.
He gives me peace, when chaos is all around me.
He gently reminds me to pray and do all things without
murmuring and complaining.
He reminds me that He is my source and not my job.
He restores my sanity everyday and guides my decisions
that I might honor Him in all that I do.
Even though I face absurd amounts of e-mails, system
crashes, unrealistic deadlines, budget cutbacks, gossiping
co-workers, discriminating supervisors and an aging body
that doesn't cooperate every morning, I still will not stop---
for He is with me! His presence, His peace, and His power
will see me through.
He raises me up, even when they fail to promote me.
He claims me as His own, even when the company threatens
to let me go. His Faithfulness and love is better than any bonus check
His retirement plan beats any 401k there is!
When it's all said and done, I'll be working for Him a whole lot longer and for that,
I BLESS HIS NAME!!!!!!

Good morning, everyone! How are all of you out there across the U.S.S.A. (the United Socialist States of America)? I have noticed too that the Message Forum has been a bit slow lately and I guess my occasional, boring comments do not contribute very much. But I hope you all have a great weekend!... and don’t forget to set your clocks ahead one hour (spring forward)! If you don’t, you may show up late to church, or somewhere else, on Sunday.

Ray Wheless

Hello to everyone! Sorry it has taken two weeks for me to get back to you all. Thanks Connie, for providing the gathering place for 25 of us on 2/22/09. We love you for your hospitality and just for being you. I think everyone enjoyed getting together...I know I did. Thanks Dale, Kathy(Carter Campbell), and Sherron for your beautiful singing and Sherron's beautiful piano playing. I really think the whole group should get us a bus and hit the road!!

Beverly, Kathy(Wheless)and Danny Little, and I enjoyed attending Inez's church on the following Tuesday night. Kathy did a wonderful job with her solo. She will have to bring her tapes to the next gathering.

Hope that everyone survived the beautiful?? snow storm on 3/1/09. I was driving in it from Mabelton to home.

I enjoy all of the messages that are posted and wish that we all would contribute more often.

Well, I need to get to preparing taxes, so I'll check in again soon.

Love to all, Ray

So nice to hear from y'all on the message forum!

I've just gotten home from Augusta where I attented my 37th. class reunion of my MCG nursing class. There were just 25 of us in the class. Back then we all lived together in the dorm, took our classes together, etc., so we were a close group. We just started getting together again 6 or 7 years ago. Like with you from my high school class, we have fun remembering and laughing about those "long ago days" and talking about children, grandchildren and jobs. There just seems to be something about getting older that makes me think about all the people that have been part of my life thru-out the years. How God has blessed me with special people!
(I hope y'all know how thankful I am for you)

Yes Jim, I love this warmer weather! Donald, keep your notes coming. Thanks for the reminder about the time change. I actually had forgotton about it. Oh Ray, why do I always put off getting my tax stuff together???

All of you have a good week-end.
love,
Connie

Judy Stewart (Findley)

As usual, I am at least 2 weeks behind. Thanks, Connie, for allowing us to invade your home. I know we all just can not thank you enough. There, just like September, it went so fast. I feel like I am living in a fast-forwarded mode. My head just keeps spinning because time goes so fast. Everybody looked great and the smiling faces were wonderful. I am glad all had safe trips home. The snow was pretty falling, but, none stuck in our area. It was wasted. Being 30 miles south of Macon does not yield much snow, even when it does snow. We got at least 80 degrees today. It is great. You can tell I am not a winter person.
I notice Diane said she go no "speeding tickets" going back to Ohio. Well, I did not get any either, however, I got "blue lights" on me not once, but twice. Yes, going home, too. Thanks, to the kindest, law enforcement officers, I just got one written courtsey warning (Watkinsville) and one verbal courtsey warning (Monticello). Guess, I will be driving slower for a while.
I just drive on the interstate too much. Diane, just wanted me to share my driving record with all. Well, gotta go for now. Love you guys & gals,
Judy

What a beautiful Georgia Weekend!

Hope you enjoyed the golfing, Jim.

Did anyone get pictures at the gathering at Connie’s house?

I’m happy to hear you enjoyed your Nurses Reunion, Connie. May God bless all Nurses.

Good to hear from you on the Message Forum, Ray… even if you did use a dirty word… “taxes”.

Good to hear from you too, Judy! (slow down!)

Have a great week everyone… and enjoy that extra hour of daylight!

Hi!
Well, let me go a day or two without checking in here, and POOF!....look at all the recent responses! I loved reading them, and knowing you all so well, I can hear your voices as I my mind reads them.

Judy, glad you fessed up about those little "courtesy" tickets you got going and coming to the get together at Connie's. You're not quite the "little old lady from Pasadena" yet, but I'm glad to know you're working on it! :)

I enjoyed hearing, reading, and seeing pictures via the web of the snow storm. It was beautiful! That's the kind of snow to have. It comes, is beautiful, most everything closes, it's exciting, and then it leaves, avoiding the days of dirty slush that accompanies the snow we get up here. Wish I'd been there for it. I remember making snow ice cream when I was little, but I don't know if anyone does that anymore.

Just wanted to say "hi" after a very busy weekend. We spent a full 12 hours at our church today, helping host a special event there. Now I'm paying for it by sitting up and waiting for Dick's Fruit of the Looms to dry so he take them to Indy tomorrow. (Too much information?)

Have a great and blessed week everyone.

Love,
Diane

Happy birthday wishes to Alvin and Steve.

Judy, I'd like to know how you get 2 WARNINGS in a week-end, and when I was pulled over, I got a ticket???

Diane, I actually scooped some snow into a ziplock and froze it. Going to make snow-cream when I have some grandchildren here. Doesn't that bring back memories of our childhood??

Donald, I took some snapshots 2/22, but I don't know how to put them on the site. I've had the pictures printed out and you you will have to look at them the next time we get together.

I too am loving this beautiful weather. I join Jim in wishing everyone a good week!

Connie... I will look forward to the next time we can all get together (maybe my schedule will be better), and I will look forward to seeing your photos then.

I hope everyone is having a great week! Looks like our warm "spring" weather is going to turn cool and soggy for the weekend. Have fun anyway!

I thought that all of you youngsters out there from the Class of '68 who have "REACHED 50" might enjoy the following "Views on Ageing" from the late comedian George Carlin...

“Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about ageing that you think in fractions. 'How old are you?' 'I'm four AND A HALF' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead. 'How old are you?' 'I'm GONNA BE 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're GONNA BE 16!

And then the greatest day of your life .... You BECOME 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony. You BECOME 21. Yesss!!!

But then you TURN 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away.

Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE IT to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE IT to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You GET INTO your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there.

Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I WAS JUST 92.'

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!'

May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!!”

I recently read a magazine article about Jim Davis, the cartoonist that does Garfield. It said there were 65 students in his graduating class and that he is grateful that he attended a small country school. He went on to say "I weighed 100 pounds and was asthmatic, and I still got to start in football all four years. that's the beauty of a small school. You can do so many things."

I am so grateful for the nice people I went to school with and the opportunities I had at Oglethorpe.

Hope you all have a good week. Happy St. Patricks day, and happy birthday Kathy.

love y'all,
connie
