Happy Birthday, dear, dear, Gary! Even though the skies might be gray today in Georgia, I hope you have a beam of special sunshine on you all day long.

Here’s wishing Gary a very Happy Birthday too! May God bless you with a very special day today. Has anyone seen or heard from Gary the past few weeks? I hope that he and Sherron are doing ok.

Connie… I hope those flannel sheets are handy. You may have to pull them out one more time. I see where the forecast for Tuesday morning is 30 degrees!!!

I’ve been in a bit of a foul mood this week… working on the taxes. Excuse me for getting on my soapbox for a minute here. In last fall’s election campaign, we were promised “Change You Can Believe In.” I hope that you folks are really paying attention out there. American Capitalism and your freedoms, and those of your children and grandchildren, are melting away day by day under this new socialist administration. It is “change” alright, and you had better believe it!... and wake up before it is too late! I apologize if this forum is not the right place for my political commentary, but I just had to vent a little.

I feel better, now. Have a great weekend everyone!

Blessings, Don

Don and All,

So it's chilly down there too, eh? That makes me feel a little better. It was a beautiful 73 degree day here yesterday, but today it's cold again and windy. Our long range forcast even calls for a high of 38 early next week, with possible snow showers Mon. and Tues. Yuck!

I have been wondering about Gary also, and am hoping they are off visiting family. Gary, if you read this, we're all thinking of you!

Don, your rant about the "change" that was talked about reminded me of a little ditty I wrote a few years ago. Here 'tis.

Change

I like to change my underwear; I like to change my sheets.
I like to change the channel while remaining in my seat.

I like a change in attitude in those who would defy me.
I also like a change of heart in those who would deny me.

I like to change a lightbulb when it dims within its socket.
I especially like the feel of change deep within my pocket.

I guess that you could say I'm a changer through 'n through,
But the one thing that I'll NEVER change is the way that
I LOVE YOU!

I didn't write that with you guys in mind at the time, but I sure can say it's true for my old friends from OCHS. And, Don, it's OK to vent. That's what friends are for.

Diane

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARY!!! I join the others in wanting to hear from you.

Don, I know better than to put those flannel sheets up before May! I do this every year. First warm spell usually finds me so ready for Spring, so I think I'll help it stay if I put away winter things.. (and Don, I'm glad to read the sharing of opinions)

Diane, what a poet. I love it. You really could write professionally.

Hang in there Ray. April 16 is just around the corner.

Think of and love y'all. Hope you have a good week-end.

Thank you all for the Birthday wishes. I have been keeping check on the website but haven't had anything good to say. I echo and amplify Don's sentiments. Sherron and I are in Pigeon Forge for our 33rd anniversary. We drove up yesterday. Kind of cloudy and overcast with zero visibility at New Found Gap. Today, 60's and partly cloudy. Tomorrow, 70's and sunny. Monday, rainy and 50 with possible snow overnight. Snow as we head home Tuesday. We are in a cabin, literally on top of a mountain. It is beautiful! I don't do nothing well and this is supposed to be a "nothing" getaway for us. After breakfast this morning I got a second cup of coffee and headed to the hot tub and watched the sun come up over the mountains. Figure I'll go join Sherron on the deck shortly with a book or magazine and do a little reading. Sometimes I envy all you retired folks, until I have and opportunity like this to act like I'm retired and then I start looking for something to do. Maybe I'll hunt down the maintenance man and see if he needs some help - NOT! I hope you all have a great week and again, thank you for the many birthday wishes.

It’s good to hear from you again, Gary. I guess a Happy Anniversary greeting is also in order… for you and your beautiful bride. Congratulations on 33 years! Sounds like you are having a wonderful time up there in the mountains. Enjoy it, and don’t worry if you get snowbound! Everything here in Marietta is suddenly covered too… with yellow pollen. I really feel for all of you allergy sufferers out there.

Diane… I must agree with Connie. You certainly have a way with words. You are indeed blessed with a wonderful gift for writing!

Today is a glorious day! For one thing, it is opening day of the Major League Baseball season! Game one of 162. All is right with the world! Go Braves!

And… Happy Palm Sunday to everyone! May you all have a wonderful and blessed Holy Week!

A Frosty Morning to All,

Gary, I had to let you know that I checked out our new forum feature, and after seeing your picture there, I am quaking. It's a great picture. I am sure a certain "Miss Kitty" was nearby, monitoring your alcohol and ammunition.

As soon as I figure out something to forum about, I will. It may not be any of the sports, religion, or politics that you mentioned, but something that I know about, which significantly limits the possibilities.

Thanks for your continuing efforts to keep this site evolving and fun. As hard as it must have been for you to drag yourself out of the hot tub, we're glad you came down off that TN mountain and are on our level again.

Let's forum y'all!

Diane

Snow Flurries in Metro Atlanta today!!! And this is April 7th folks! It must be Global Warming! Please alert Al Gore! And, Connie, you may need your flannel sheets one more night. The forecast for Wednesday morning is the upper 20's. Brrr!!!

I like the new User Forum, Gary. Thanks! A good place to post photos too. By the way... I've taken photos for a long time and never heard the term "avitar." That's a new one on me. I could chat on the Braves and my conservative politics for hours at a time, but I'm not sure anyone else would be interested. Any Braves fans out there? We're unbeaten after one game! I think maybe College Football rules in Georgia. Lots of Bulldog fans!

I think the temperatures are supposed to be back in the 70's by Good Friday. Happy Easter everyone!

Thank you Jim and all again for your well wishes. I hope you will all avail yourselves of the User Forums. As it turns our, we are only authorized three topics without upgrading to a premium (cost) version. I created Politics and Religion but can change or delete if no interest generated. My selection was based on previous posts on the Message Forum that appeared to need a content driven area. Don, don't worry about revealing your political views. I'm probably a little right of you. And as far as religion, the more I come to understand, I'm moving away from organized religion and toward Christianity. My experience tells me that most "churches" are built on preference and tradition and have gotten away from the basics. (Sorry; should have been on the Religion - User Forum). Got to run. Everyone have a blessed day!

Donald Chandler

Hi Jim… good to see you back on the forum. The Braves have a lot of good things going for them this year, although they did give away that game yesterday. Bummer. They really should have swept the Phillies. They need to work on the bullpen, but the starting pitching looks good, and that new young rookie Jordan Schafer is going to be a good one too! It’s going to be fun to watch!!! Go Braves!

Gary… “Politics” and “Religion” - two good subjects for the forum. And controversial too. I like it! I can be pretty passionate about both. It’s funny, I’ve gone full circle with my political views... from very conservative in high school and college to very liberal when I came to Atlanta after college (my long hair days), to very conservative again after I started my own business and experienced a spiritual conversion. I voted for a lot of Democrats when I was younger, but there were actually conservative Democrats then (Sam Nunn). Today I believe that most Democrats are really Socialists. My personal opinion. I hope I don’t offend anyone here (opposing views are welcome!) While I’m stirring the pot I’ll move on to your “religion” topic. I tend to agree with you. I would describe my own spiritual growth as more of a personal “relationship” with God than it is a “religion.” There are some churches that understand that too, and I am blessed to have found one. I believe we are here to glorify God with the gifts He has given us, and serve our “neighbors” in the process. Let me stop right here before I am accused of preaching. Like I said… opposing views are welcome.

Have a great Easter weekend everyone!!! Spring has returned to Georgia!

Hey, Jim. I thought you might be over at Augusta this weekend for the Masters... playing with Tiger!!!

NO DON, I WOULD LOVE TO BE THERE. IF YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN
THE COURSE DURING THE MASTERS! THERE IS NO PLACE ON THIS EARTH THAT IS MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN THAT PLACE TODAY!!! EVERYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO THERE AT LEAST ONCE IN THEIR LIFE TIME. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE.

Oh Jim - ya gotta go!!! My father-in-law took me one year. (Good story.) We were sitting behind the third tee when Arnold Palmer approached the tee. He was out of the running so he could just play and have some fun. He turned to some guy in the gallery and asked, "Which club should I use?" With great confidence, this fellow said, "I think you should use a five iron Mr. Palmer." Arnold motioned to his caddie to give him his five iron. Arnold lined up the shot, approached the ball and took his swing. The ball ended up in the bunker to the left of the green. Arnold turned to the poor fellow that recommended the five iron and said, "Now I see why you are sitting back there!"

Hope everyone is safe out there after a stormy night in Georgia. I saw on the news that there was a Tornado Warning posted for Oglethorpe County. Here in Marietta we were right in the middle of our Good Friday service at church, and the speaker was making a point about the "Laws of God," when a HUGE clap of thunder shook the building. It certainly got our attention... along with a bit of nervous laughter.

Gary... that was a good Masters / Arnold Palmer story. And Jim...I am not a golfer but I would jump at the opportunity to go to the Masters. Augusta National looks beautiful on TV... I can just imagine how much better it would be there in person with my camera at "Amen Corner" surrounded by those beautiful azaleas, dogwoods and Georgia pines. Looks like Tiger has a lot of work to do if he's going to win another Green Jacket this year.

Stay well and safe everyone.

Happy Tax Day, Everyone! I hope you are going on a nice vacation tomorrow, Ray!

This week started out with a nasty windstorm here in Georgia. Over 50 mph winds here in Marietta. They say there were about 300 trees down in Metro Atlanta alone. I think there were more… they didn’t count the one that fell in our front yard (again), or the four that fell in my neighbor’s yard. So I guess I’ll have to get out my chainsaw one more time. I am very thankful that the tree didn’t fall on the house. But be warned… you should never mix taxes and chainsaws!

Connie… we finally saw “Fireproof” too (most of the movies we see are in a cheap second run theater or on DVD). And I would agree with you and Diane… very good movie!

Jim... too bad you couldn't be there at Augusta on Sunday. It was a great finish at the Masters, even though Tiger and Phil were out of the running. Now back to baseball! Go Braves!

It is hard to keep up with technology and the times. I do not even own an Ipod. I’m not on Myspace or Facebook. And now I hear that folks are “twittering” and “tweeting.” What’s up with that?

I think I have probably been taking up too much space here on the forum lately, so I’m taking a little time off. Liz and I are planning another trip next week which I am calling a "Friends & Family” Tour of Georgia & Florida. We are heading to Savannah on Sunday for a couple of days to see the sites, eat seafood and visit one of Liz's old family friends. From there we travel through Brunswick to stop and visit one of my nieces and her family, and continue on to St. Augustine for a couple of days of sightseeing and more seafood. Then it's on to Eustis, Florida (near Orlando) to visit with one of Liz's long-time girlfriends and her family for several days. While there, we plan to take a day-trip over to Dunedin, Florida (near Tampa/St. Pete) to visit with another one of my nieces (Ron's daughter Lori) and her two beautiful daughters. Then we’ll stop over in Lakeland, Florida to visit another one of Liz's childhood friends and his family before heading home to Marietta on Monday the 27th. Whew! On the trip, we also want to visit a couple of lighthouses on the coast, and I want to try a Florida delicacy... Alligator Tail. I've heard it's pretty good. Have any of you ever tried it? And by the way… do any of you know of any good seafood restaurants in Savannah and/or St. Augustine?

Have a great weekend everyone… and a great week! See ya down the road!

Love & Hugs, Don

Hi All,

Don, I am not able to advise you on any restaurants in the areas you mention, but I'll bet you'll be hearing from others. I am envious of your trip, though. The thought of fun, sun, and surf is so appealing! Oh, and the family and friends part of it makes it all the better. Have a wonderful, wonderful trip.

Ray, I join Don in hoping that you are enjoying some rest after your long "taxing" season. I have a friend up here who is an accountant, and she pretty much gives up her life for a couple of months until after April 15.

No news here, except that the sun came out from behind the clouds, and I think Spring has finally found Ohio. Though it's still rather chilly at the moment, it should be about 70 in a couple of hours. Except for a lingering cough that's left over from last week's cold, I'm feeling up to getting outside and dividing perennials and mulching.

Here's hoping a great weekend is in store for everyone. Jimmy, I hope you get to hit the greens, Don, I wish you and Liz a safe trip, and Ray, take a break from number crunching! Connie, hope you get to see the grandkids again, and Gary, continue to maintain order in Watkinsville. To those of you who probably read this, but don't always have time to write, I wish you a great weekend too, filled with happy surprises.

All my love,
Diane
