Hi everyone,

So good to hear from you Janie.

Connie I'm sorry that the weather ruined your trip. I do love Fernandina. Hope it works out for us to go this fall.

On Tuesday night we went to see ou 4 year old ,Hannah graduate from 4k.

tonight we are celebrating Rabun's birthday with Burton and Jennifer. Beth and her family are leaving for Hilton Head in the morning so they are home packing for that trip.

Hope all of you who are traveling have a safe weekend.

Thanks to all who have served / are serving our country!!!

Nice to hear from all of you who post on the message forum. Glad you joined in Janie.

I haven't heard any more about Linda Wheless other than it was a dislocated elbow.

My trip to the beach was pretty much a bust--- Had not been there in several years and had really looked forward to 4 nights there. Drove the 330+ miles on Sunday. The rain started Sunday evening. The 20-40 mph winds (with gusts up to 60 mph) and almost constant rain began Sunday night and did not end. By the time we lost electricity on Tuesday @ 3 p.m., decided to get out while we could and still had some daylight. Disappointed, but thankful for safety. Came on home and went back to work.
Donald, one high-light was that I ate @ the Crab Shack in Fernandina Beach on Sunday night and had some absolutely delicious shrimp!!

I hope you all have a good week.

I trust everyone survived the LONG weekend and got all of those projects completed. I took off Friday to begin our closet make over - we are still sleeping in the guest bedroom. And we decided that as long as our bedroom was in a mess - why not go ahead and start replacing the flooring in there! And our new shower is supposed to be installed around the middle of June. Then outside .....
Connie you are not alone in your bad beach stories. Our daughter called Thursday evening to let us know they were headed to Pensacola for the weekend. Saturday she called to let us know they were changing locations to Ft. Walton. Seems it was Gay Pride Weekend in Pensacola.
Feels like a Monday and have a stack of emails to clear from my PC. I hope you all have a blessed week. Later.

Morning Everyone,

Just a quick howdy, with special condolences to Connie for the unfortunate timing of her vacation. Connie, it is true. Sometimes bad things do happen to the best of people. Vacation disasters are a subject we have all had brushes with at one time or another. But on the flip side, you got some great shrimp, and were able to be with your kids for a while, which are two things I wish I could report on.

Don, it's always good to get your updates, and hear from you and Liz. I am sure I have "talked" more with you this past year or so than I did the whole time we knew each other in high school. What a dumb blonde I was! My loss, not yours. Of course, discovering our family trees have connecting limbs was a thrill!

Gary, good luck with your closet. It is a noble undertaking. Somewhere deep within the recesses of my soul, an ultra organized person is yearning to be set free. I have more little specialized containers for all my nooks and crannies than I have stuff to put in them, yet I still go to my old standby-"the junk drawer" for so many things. At this moment I am stalling on entering two bedrooms that became holding facilities during our little home improvement project recently. I am overwhelmed by the task, but I have to "just do it". Happily, we are having lots of kinfolk coming to visit from GA this summer, and unless I get those bedrooms back to normal, they are going to have to prop up against the walls to sleep. Anyway, may the force be with you on your closet, and congratulations on being such an accomplished do-it-yourselfer.

Janie, enjoy your fishing bank. Ahhh, to be there with you. Linda, though we aren't sure what the nature of your injury was, we all pray that you are healing fast. Oh, I got my Echo (two weeks late, as usual) and saw your grandson's picture there with his prized turkey kill. Wow! Kathy, you know I love you, and I'm so glad to hear Rabun is doing well. How are your herbs doing this year?

Hugs to all,
Diane

Connie, I too feel so bad that your trip to the beach was spoiled by the weather. We have had a few of our travels through the years interrupted as well. When life gives you a lemon, you just have to make lemonade. Sounds like you did that at the Crab Shack! I love their shrimp too. And Gary, sounds like your daughter is pretty good at changing plans too. I hope she had a gay time at Ft. Walton Beach. Actually this Spring has been a very wet one here in Georgia. It has been hard to string together two days of sunshine in a row. With all the years of drought we’ve had, I guess I should not complain. The rain may be inconvenient sometimes, but a blessing still.

Liz and I stayed here in Marietta for the holiday weekend. Except for going out to eat a couple of times, and going to church on Sunday, we just relaxed at home. I enjoyed sitting on my porch reading and watching the wild birds and critters in my backyard. And I watched a lot of baseball on TV. Sometimes my Braves look like World Champs again, and sometimes they look like the Bad News Bears. Liz and I did watch the National Memorial Day Concert from Washington DC on PBS Sunday night… a very inspiring and very sobering program. It is always good to be reminded that freedom isn’t free.

Cousin Diane… you are not, nor have you ever been a dumb blonde. The reason that you and others didn’t get to know me better in high school is that I did not put forth the effort to make friends as I should have. Just too timid. If there had been such a category in superlatives, I would have been voted Most Likely To Go Unnoticed. It has been wonderful getting to know you all better as classmates and friends even if it did take 40 years. I’m not as quiet as I used to be, and I do love to tell a story now and then.

I’ll hush for now. Have a great week everyone.

Brother Don, usually our politics and ideals are in total sync, but you have now made a statement which I must challenge. I should have been voted THE MOST FORGETTABLE CHARACTER!! I have spent many an hour RE-introducing myself. I became so conscious of it that I tried to get someone to bet me that I could walk into your local jiffy mart, introduce myself, smile at the camera, pull a gun and hold up the place, walk out the door, turn around and go back in and purchase something with the stollen money and never be identified. This has significantly contributed to my not speaking to people I know for fear they would say, "Now who are you?" Oh well, sometimes its good not to be remembered.

Signed,
Now what was my name?

Donald Chandler

I was watching the local news last night on TV and they had this video of the surveillance tape of some guy with a smile on his face robbing a jiffy mart. And he looked a lot like... uh... you know... what's his name.

Donald Chandler

OK... all you Facebook Pros out there. I admit that I was a bit curious. And then I got an invitation from an OCHS friend and classmate to "become a friend" on Facebook. So I decided to check it out. And now I'm there... along with a few million other people. Some of them have hundreds of "friends." Amazing! I'll admit too that I'm not quite sure what I'm doing so far and I'll have to learn the ropes. Please be gentle.

05/28/09 09:03 PM #567

Diane Harris (Moore)

Welcome to the inner sanctum, Don. As I told you, I am rather shy about asking folks to "befriend" me on Facebook, because they already think I am odd, and I am afraid that to some people an invitation to Facebook would confirm it! However, it has been one of my most pleasant surprises of the past year. When my computer savvy kids insisted that it would be the easiest way to see pictures of the grandkids, well, that did it. But along the way, I have reconnected with many, many old friends and relatives who I had not heard from in a long time. I was even "found" by two of our son's friends that they had when we lived in Athens in the mid 80s, and they were just little boys at the time. Knowing they remembered us and had such fond memories made my heart melt. Bottom line, for a skeptic like me, it has been a blessing. Sure, there are some kooks out there, but they are not my "friends".

Fellow Facebooker,
Diane

I know many people find baseball to be very boring... too slow in this fast paced world. But I love it! And I’ve heard it said that when you tune into a baseball game, even if you’ve watched thousands of games, you never know when you will see something you’ve never seen before. Such was the case yesterday, and it actually had nothing to do with the game itself. I was watching the Braves beat up on the Arizona Diamondbacks (yes!), and they showed a close-up of the pitcher for the D’backs. The guy had one brown eye and one blue eye! ??? Now, I think I saw a kitty cat years ago that had eyes of two different colors, but never a human being. Perhaps it’s more common than I think. Maybe I’ve just led a very sheltered 58 years, but it seemed a bit strange and fascinating. I could see how someone looking him eye to eye might lose their concentration talking with him.

Oh well, have a great week everyone! We’re gonna have some sunshine in Georgia!!! Hallelujah!

Jimmy Willis

HELLO FOLKS! DON, I SAW THAT GAME YESTERDAY. AND THAT WAS A STRANGE SIGHT. HIS EYES WERE SO DIFFERENT THAT IT MAKES YOU WONDER IF HE HAD A TRANPLANT OR DIFFERENT COLOR CONTACTS MAYBE.
ANYWAY, HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GREAT WEEK.
JIM

06/01/09 03:18 PM #570

Donald Chandler

Right, Jim. His eyes were such a stark contrast... very bright blue and bright brown, that it was kinda weird. Now I remember when we were down on the farm that we had some chickens that laid blue eggs and green eggs. Honestly! I'm telling the truth. I'll take an oath. They weren't bright colors but more pastel, but definitely blue and green... not your average white or brown. You know, I think that God has a great sense of humor, and sometimes just does things to make us do a double-take and say "Wow!" Ain't it a hoot!

06/01/09 04:04 PM #571

Diane Harris (Moore)

Regarding those colorful chicken eggs, Don. We have some good friends at church up here who raise a few chickens, and they have brought both blue and green eggs to show us. I never researched what causes it, but I know exactly what you're talking about. The guy always teases me, and he said they laid them to match their feet. I'm thinking he was taking advantage of my ignorance of chickens, but I still need to go see those chicken's feet!

Speaking of chickens and eggs, I must share this. I bought some very expensive eggs over the weekend, because I had a dollar coupon for them. That should tell you right there that they were expensive. They were organic and weren't even with the rest of the eggs. The explanation on the inside of the carton says, "the hens live in open "community houses" where they have feed, water, nests, roosting poles and plenty of area to exercise". I kid you not. These must have been some snooty chickens. I served Dick 2 this morning at breakfast, and we had a big laugh over it. I mean it sounds like these chickens live in a spa, use treadmills, and get massages. I'm rather envious. Now you know those chickens don't smell one bit better than any other chickens. Thank goodness we were reared in the good old countryside, and don't demand such high-falutin' eggs. I fell for the lure of that one dollar coupon, but it was worth the chuckle we got.

Speaking of that bucket list? I just came back from giving blood, and I'd suggest everyone who is able and has never done so, to put that on their list. It always makes me feel good.

Love,
Diane

Brother Gary... where are you? Did you get caught holding up a Jiffy Mart?

06/03/09 08:15 AM #573

Gary Grice

Happy Wednesday everyone! It was a 7-11 not a Jiffy Mart and no, no one recognized me. I have been busier than a one armed paper hanger and today it continues. I have been working on several projects (at work) and just when I think I can move forward with them, a few more get put on my plate. Special thanks to Tessie for pulling my butt out of the fire this week. We also had to assist our kids last week for several days. Ended up having grand kids about 4 days last week. Anyway, I'm off to the races. Have a great day. Later.

THE BRAVES PLAYED A GREAT GAME LAST NITE! IF YOU'RE A FAN I HOPE YOU GOT TO SEE IT. HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE.

06/03/09 11:25 AM #575

Donald Chandler

Jim... that was great game! I didn't get to see it all, but it was nice to see them come back after being down 5 - 0, tie it up in the ninth, and win it in extra innings. I did see all the last few innings and the game winner! Chipper is just a great hitter! I just wish he could stay healthy. I hope this can be the start of a little more offense on a more consistent basis. The pitching is fine!

It is with great sorrow that I must inform everyone that Willie Nelson was struck by a car and killed yesterday. It seems he was playing on the road again.

Now tell me you didn't smile.

06/04/09 02:42 PM #577

Ok, Gary... you spooked me there for a second. :-) I love Willie's music!

Say, Class of '68... do any of you remember what you were doing 41 years ago tonight?

06/04/09 04:24 PM #578

Jimmy Willis

GARY YOU NEVER JOKE ABOUT ONE OF THE "GREATS"! ANOTHER VERY GOOD GAME LAST NITE DON! HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!
BY THE WAY DON, DID YOU NOTICE GARY LISTED ANGELINE JOLIE'S NAME TWO TIMES ON THE BIRTHDAY LIST? WHAT'S ALL THAT BOUT?

06/04/09 04:51 PM #579

Diane Harris (Moore)

You scared me too, Gary! Willie never did look so hot, but he sure could "sang".

Don, could it be that we were graduating? Or was it baccalaurat (I know it's spelled wrong, but you know what I'm talking about!) Anyway, if it was graduation, then we were getting ready to sing "Climb Every Mountain", and listen to our class scholars present moving speeches. Then, we cried our eyes out ( I most certainly did), and changed from our gowns into our glamorous evening attire. We then motored to Charlie Williams for our Senior Breakfast. I still remember the little black dress that Mama made for me. Now a days it would take more fabric than that just to make me a shawl. Sigh. I also remember how "in love" I was. Guess what? I still am!
Speaking of that era, Dick and I are going to hear The Lettermen and The Association tomorrow night. It's an outdoor venue that we love, and we'll just sit on the lawn under the stars and go back in time. Sigh again.

Anyway, Don, that's what I remember. I'll bet others have their own memories. Am I right, or were we doing something else 41 years ago this night?

Jimmy, a big hello to you, buddy. Always good to hear from you.

Connie, are you OK? I sure hope so.

Love to all,
Diane

Ah, the "little black dress"!!!!! Works every time! Especially for Angelina!!

Diane… you are right, and you win the prize (a kiss from Richard Dawson). It was indeed graduation night for us 41 years ago tonight. The Baccalareate (I can’t spell it either) was Sunday night June 2nd. I don’t think they will even allow such a service now… liberals, Democrat/Socialists and the ACLU would have a cow for even thinking about God in a public place. (now, Don) And if you remember, our graduation was originally planned for Monday, June 3rd and the invitations were printed with that date, but it had to be changed to Tuesday night June 4th. We all had to insert little printed cards with our invitations explaining that the date was changed “due to circumstances beyond our control.” I have no idea what the circumstances were. I remember being very, very nervous that night because I was one of those giving a speech, in which by the way, I was so bold as to quote scriptures from the Bible. I still have my handwritten copy of that speech (I told you I was a pack rat). My greatest memory of the speech was that the sound system went out just after I started speaking. I noticed that the audience suddenly had strange, confused, strained looks on their faces, and it was because they couldn’t hear a word I was saying. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise. Anyway, I had completely forgotten about the Senior Breakfast at Charlie Williams until you mentioned it. I was there, but with no date… and no little black dress. Do they still do those Senior Breakfasts after graduation?

And by the way… Diane. I envy you and Dick and your concert tomorrow night. I absolutely loved the Association!!! I had one of their albums that I wore out. And I went to see them in concert when I was a student at Georgia Tech and it was one of the best concerts ever! I still remember “Cherish,” “Windy,” and “Never My Love” as classics!

Jim… I missed the Wednesday night game except for the last few innings after church. I guess it’s good to have a pitcher’s duel once in a while, but the Braves are going to have to score more than a run or two if they win more than they lose. They really need more hits from their outfielders. Maybe this new centerfielder, Nate McLouth will help. They got rained out tonight, so we’ll see him tomorrow night. And, by the way Jim… I did notice that Angelina was listed twice. I think we may have to watch Gary a little more closely.

And I’m missing Connie too. Where is she?

Well, it’s not graduation night, so I have to hit the sack. Goodnight folks. Have a good Friday and a nice weekend!
