Glad everyone enjoys the wisdom and humor posts. Sorry I can't disclose my sources - you'll have the search the internet yourself. Looking forward to seeing many Sunday. In the mean time, here's your Friday fix:

A Swiss man, looking for directions, pulls up at a bus stop where two Texans are waiting.

"Entschuldigen Sie mich, Sie zu tun sprechen Deutsches?" he asks. The two Texans just stare at him.

"Excusez-moi pour vous faire parlent français?" The two continue to stare.

"parli italiano?" No response.

"¿los di usted habla español?" Still nothing.

So he has a final try: "Tatakalamaani bil arabiyya?"

The Swiss man drives off, extremely disgusted.

The first Texan turns to the second and says, "You know Bubba, maybe we should learn a foreign language."

"Why?" says the other. "That guy knew five and it didn't do him any good."

Later!!!

Hope you are able to come Sunday Jim. Hopefully you'll feel much better after 24 hours!

I was glad to get a message from Bobby Sparks asking about the Sunday gathering. I hope he will be able to come. I tried to send him some info, but could never get the message to "attach". These darn computers! (I won't blame it on my lack of knowledge and skill - ha)

Everyone have a good w/e. Looking very forward to seeing those of you that can come. Safe travels!

Darn!!! I hate I had to miss the get together but would not have been very much fun. Had the worst sinus infection I've had in a LONG time. Had to lay low yesterday also and get some drugs - back at work today. I know everyone had a great time. I received an email that Bobby Sparks has joined our group and responded with and invite to participate in our Forums. Looks like Happy Birthday wishes are in order for Stephanie!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Well I guess I need to go find a bit of wit or wisdom to share. Hopefully I can find something good - you've all been deprived the last couple of days I know!!! Later.

The new school librarian decided that instead of checking out children's books by writing the names of borrowers on the book cards herself, she would have the youngsters sign their own names. She would then tell them they were signing a 'Contract' for returning the books on time.

Her first customer was a third grader who looked surprised to see a new librarian. He brought three books to the desk and shoved them across to the librarian, giving her his name as he did so.

The librarian pushed the books back and told him to sign them out. The boy laboriously printed his name on each book card and then handed them to her with a look of utter disgust.

Before the librarian could even start her speech, he said scornfully, "The other librarian we had knew how to write."

It's early Wednesday, and I'm slowly getting back to my routine up here in Ohio. After being down in Georgia, having nothing but one good time after another, it takes a while to settle back down to real life.

Connie, thanks again for all you did to host us Sunday afternoon. You won't admit it, but setting up tables for us, etc., so we could enjoy that wonderful breeze under the trees, was not done in five minutes. Thank you! Dick and I had such a good time seeing everyone. We missed those of you who weren't there, and if sickness was the cause of your absence,
we sure hope you're feeling frisky again. I was able to have some good conversations, lots of laughs, and hugs that I wish I could have every day. It was the best way I can think of to end our time back HOME!

After leaving, we drove up to Knoxville for the night. In keeping with my developing traits of the elderly, I woke up at 3:30 and couldn't go back to sleep. I tried to be quiet, but when I turned on the bright light to read, Dick woke up. (works every time!) We ended up leaving, drove through the mountains and imagined the pretty scenery we couldn't see. We got back here in time to mow the grass, and attend the 1 PM funeral of the husband of a good friend. Naturally, by 6 PM we were both like zombies. We're pretty much back to normal now, or at least what's normal for us.

We came back to Fall up here. From what my sister said, as soon as we left, the state of Georgia cleared up and cooled off too. I think we got in on the beginning of that at Connie's. We are expecting our first frost tonight. I personally love this time of year, and think it's my favorite.

Won't bore you any longer. Gary, so glad you are feeling better. You were missed Sunday, as were you, Jimmy and Don. If your ears were burning that afternoon, it was due to all the nice things we were saying about you.

Blowing you all kisses!
Diane

Diane, so glad y'all got home safely. It was just wonderful to see you and Dick! I really appreciate you arranging your trip time to include Crawford on Sunday!!
Sure hope your knee is soon better - let us know what the Dr. says.

Diane and Dick, so glad you had a great trip. Sorry I didn't get to visit with you. I know Connie did her usual FANTASTIC hosting. I'm sorry to hear so many have been sick and hope everyone is feeling better. With all of the flu going around and being among the high risk category I've been doing some research and thought I might share with you some very interesting informatioin I have gleaned from my studies. I have discovered that there is a significant difference between the swine flu and bird flu of which you MUST all be made aware. The bird flu requires immediate tweetment, while the swine flu can be cured with an application of oinkment....... Yeah, I know, I didn't see that one coming either. Hope you all have a blessed and glorious day!! Later.

As many of you may know, October is "Breast Cancer Awareness Month". Someone sent me this link to a unique way to raise contributions to fight breast cancer. Guys may enjoy more than Gals and may not be suitable for all office environments. Anyway, here is your daily post of Wit and Wisdom. Later.

Well, it appears that I scared everyone away or they are still reviewing the Gallery at the Breast Cancer site I posted yesterday! Any who, here's a bit of humor before I check out for the weekend. Hope everyone has a blessed weekend and here is how Hollywood see's it. Later.

it effected my powers of understanding funnies.
Man I didn't get any of that!
Anyway, always next year for the Braves Don. Now!!!!!

See ya later! Have a great weekend everyone!

Hope you all had a nice weekend. We had another rainy night in Georgia, but thankfully no flood. We recovered fine from the problems we had in September, but there are a lot of folks out there that had their lives turned upside down. A real tragedy.

Sorry that we missed the gathering at Connie’s house. Sounds like a good time was had by all. And I did wonder, Diane, why my ears were burning. :-) It would have been fun to be there with you instead of just having my “welcome” banner there to represent me. I do hope there will be other gatherings down the road.

Friday, Liz and I spent the morning at Gwinnett Arena listening to the ministry of Joyce Meyer who was here in Atlanta for a three day conference. Are any of you familiar with her? Liz especially enjoys her, and listens to her on radio and TV all the time, and has read six or eight of her books. I enjoy her too, but I was definitely among a minority of men there on Friday. I never saw so many women in one place in my life! Joyce does have a real gift of wit and wisdom combined to reach people all over the world for the Kingdom of God.

I spent the first part of Saturday with my “plumber’s” hat on. .. replacing a bathroom faucet in our master bath. Not one of my favorite things to do, but I did save a few bucks by doing it myself. I’m not the greatest handyman around, but I have replaced a few faucets before, and even replaced a toilet once upon a time. But keep me away from anything electrical. I do know my limits.

But the second half of my Saturday was a lot more fun… watching the Bulldogs play LSU. I should say it was fun right up until that “celebration” penalty killed us with 1:09 left on the clock. Dawg-gone-it! I think that penalty has gotten a little ridiculous myself. There is a big difference between “celebrating” and “taunting”. That really cost us the game I thought. But I’ll be pulling for the Dawgs next week too!

Well, Jim… The Braves are done for this year. I watched the last game yesterday. They really played well the last two or three months, but just couldn’t get that playoff spot. The last six games didn’t look very good, but I really think we have the pitching to win next year if they can just find a few bats to go with them and score some runs. We have one of the best rotations in baseball. But I’m not done with baseball yet… I will be watching the playoffs, and I can’t believe the first game of the World Series isn’t until October 28th. Brrr! I don’t have a favorite in the mix, but I’ll pull for anyone except the Yankees!

Have great week everyone!

Just wondering who on this site is also on Facebook?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NANCY TUCKER GRIFFITHS.

Everyone have a good week.

Diane Harris (Moore)

It's not quite 5 AM, but I'm sleepless in Ohio, so thought I'd wish Nancy a public "Happy Birthday" lest I forget later. Nancy, I hope those men in uniform at the Navy School treat you especially well today.

Not much news up here. Fall has definitely arrived, and I love it. It makes me wish for hayrides and apple cider. The cider is no problem, but the hayride might take some arranging. It also brings back memories of the Oglethorpe County Fair which used to come around this time of year. I loved going, meeting up with some of my gal pals (remember?) riding the rides, and checking out boys. Speaking of the birthday girl, Nancy, she was riding the Scrambler once, sitting between Connie and me. We were swirling crazily in and out and all around on that thing, screaming, when we noticed Nancy was holding her nose and looking desperately into our eyes. Well, the next thing we knew, Connie and I were treated to a "digestive explosion" from sweet Nancy. Nothing like being trapped on The Scrambler at a time like that. Thanks for the memory, Nancy! Hope you're feeling better.

Don, I'm glad you were spared the worst of what the recent heavy rains caused down there. Like you said, it was a tragedy for many people who lost everything. Have you ever thought about what you'd save if you had only a moment to grab something in your home before impending disaster? Aside from Liz, I mean. Once, our Dayton paper asked that question, and I answered them. I think it would be my daddy's harmonica, and the old wooden dough bowl that belonged to my grandmother. I saw my mother make biscuits in it just about every day of my life. I'd also try to grab my collection of letters from way, way back. As much as I love all my photographs, I'd probably be able to replace a lot of those from other family members, but the other things could never be duplicated. Something to think about. Hopefully I'll never be tested to see how well I'd stick to this plan.

Better go. It's probably after 5 by now, and the smell from my coffee pot is luring my back upstairs. Gary, thanks for all your funnies. That was so true about the TV and movie plots. It's always predictable.

My love to each of you. Here's wishing you a great Tuesday!

10/06/09 09:34 AM #902

Donald Chandler

I also add my best wishes to Nancy for a wonderful birthday!!! Have a great one, Nancy, but maybe stay off the Scrambler.

And speaking of Fairs, the North Georgia State Fair just completed its run here in Cobb County. We didn't make it this year, but I do love Fairs. The best one I ever attended was the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville... Excellent Fair! "Excellent Fair"... I guess that is an oxymoron. I'll bet Gary can come up with another great list for us on that subject.

And Diane, to answer your question about saving priceless treasures in an emergency, I may have to think about that one. The first thing that comes to mind (after Liz) is our collection of Photo/Scrapbooks. We have around 60 of them, and that doesn't count all the slides I collected back in the seventies and eighties. Some of the photos could be replaced, but many could not.

Have great day everyone!

Nancy, don't you just hate it when people remember some of our "less memorable moments"??? (but I've never seen a scrambler in all of these years that I have not thought of you!"
Do y'all remember that they used to take us to the fair during school?? I remember our classes walking over there. Fun memories.
Have a good Tuesday.
love to all,
connie

I'm not usually up this time of night but couldn't sleep and saw that I had emails via the class website from a couple of Larry's friends. I had tried to contact Larry last Saturday and Sunday to come over for a birthday dinner. He would have been 63 on Monday, October 5. When he didn't answer the phone and didn't return phone messages, we went to check on him Sunday afternoon and found him dead. From what he told Wesley (younger brother) as late as Friday morning he hadn't been feeling well most of the week - but never bothered to call anyone that would and could help. The coroner decided that due to his health history and no signs of foul play there was no need for an autopsy. I knew that he didn't have long to live, having watched him for the last year but you always think - later. Well, later has come and he appeared to have passed away peacefully. We didn't publish a death notice, so Diane you didn't miss it! I've got to go to the office tomorrow, or rather in a few hours so I guess I had better try to get some sleep. I'll get back in the swing of things in a few days and try to make up for lost time with some worthwhile wit and wisdom. Ya'll have a blessed remainder of the week and I'll catch you ..... Later.
