Tom T. Hall always had a way with words. But I can't believe he didn't mention broiled liver or Democrats. Maybe I could write a sequel.

On second thought... he did mention "onions" and "losers". I guess that was pretty close.

Gary, that song brought back such sweet memories to me.Burton, my son learned the words to that Tom Hall song when he was just a little tike, 2 years old and he had to sing it in church one time before the service actually started, and then he took himself up an offering. It was Rabun's first pastorate, Grace Baptist at Royston, just a very small country church. Everyone gave him a hand and laughed.

Hi Judy dear, hope you had a wonderful birthday today!
Love you cuz.

Aw, Gary, thanks for the daffodils. I can almost smell them. Considering they are predicting a possible 6 inches of snow for us by Saturday, I truly appreciate the sweet, bright daffodil. They always tell me that Spring really is going to come again, just like God promised.

JUDY!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Here it is Thursday and "Here come's that rainy day feeling again....."
Good to have you back on the forum Kathy. How's the hand? Looks like you typing ability has returned.
Happy Birthday Judy!! Pour yourself a cup of joe and curl up by the fireplace and enjoy the rain.
Diane, glad you enjoyed the flowers. Hopefully it won't be long before you get some real ones.
Several of us have been strolling down Memory Lane over on the User Forum. I came across this image of a bygone era. Can you remember what show this is?

Why not join us! Later.

I too send out a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Judy. We would love to hear from you more often too. I guess we are all lining up this year for the big SIX-OH! We are not exactly kids anymore.

And speaking of kids,Gary... would that be "Kids Say the Darndest Things!" ??? That was a good one indeed. And you know... I think Art Linkletter is still kickin the last I heard... somewhere around 100.

Gail Gabriel (Wilbanks)

Hi everyone! I want to add my best wishes to Judy for a very happy birthday. I've been catching up on the postings and loved reading your memories, so many that are my own memories. I love old things and I have a wringer washing machine that so many of us got our arms caught in. If you want to try that again or throw a stick of wood in the wood burning cook stove, give me a call. Speaking of old things, my husband and I are going to see George Jones in concert at the Classic Center tomorrow night. He has been known not to show up for concerts. My son said we are winners whether he shows or not, that we could become members of the "No Show Jones" club. If that's the case, I hope membership comes with refunds. Have a great day everyone!

Gail, so glad to see your post. Hope ya'll have a great time at the concert. Be sure to let us know whether or not he is actually there.

Got the cast off and stitches out Tuesday, doing good. Still can't p/u anything more than a pound and have numbness and stiffness in fingers which will gradually improve. Still can't write w/pen, so my card making, caligraphy, and other crafts will have to wait for a while.

Get ready for the showers of blessings again that are on the way.

Judy, let us know how you celebrated the big 60. (Many of us are not far behind.)

Quick Notes:

Gail, great to hear from you! Have a great time with George, but don't forget that Marvin will be with you.

Kathy, so happy your hand is progressing on schedule. Hopefully, the time will pass quickly and you will soon be back to your crafty self.

Gary, per your request I will try and get Dick to post something this weekend. There are currently two active nags on the table, and as soon as he complies with one of them, I will move your suggestion to the top. I am a considerate wife who tries not to nag about more than two things at a time.

Don, "memories light the corners of my mind". I love remembering with all of you guys, and I am thankful that going back in time takes me to such happy places. Sadly, there are people I know who can't say the same.

Jim, when I was going through scrapbooks the other day I found an Echo picture of you in your FFA jacket showing one of Dick's calves at the fair. I don't know why you were doing that, but thanks. If I knew how to post the photo I would. You were cute.

Connie, I read your question on facebook. "Do we ever stop missing our mamas?" I'm pretty sure the answer is a definite "NO". We can strive to honor their memory though, by keeping their virtues alive and passing them on.

Judy, hope your birthday was a blast, and that you were still able to go to work today. Birthdays are good things! I will never complain about having one.

To Liz, Inez, Linda, Ray and Kay (who have twin birthdays coming up Sunday!), Dennis, Nancy, Tessie, Teresa, Charles, Ross and Pam, Junior, and all the rest of you---I hope you are all well. Let us know how you're doing.

Keep safe and keep dry. Dick got home from Philadelphia late last night, just ahead of the snow storm. I am making a cozy nest here, and looking forward to a snowy Friday night and Saturday.

God bless everyone!

Good Friday Morning, Mates. It’s another wet one here… so what else is new.

Gail… great to hear from you! Now when you were “speaking of old things,” did you mean George Jones?... or you and your husband?... or all three? :-) Your post wasn't exactly clear. I do hope that George showed up for the concert… and that you both enjoyed it. You need to check back and give us a report.

I’m glad to see that Diane and others are enjoying “Memory Lane.” It’s all Connie’s fault you know… she started all of this with her “Monday, Monday” post.

Liz and our church choir are going to Chattanooga this weekend for their Annual Choir Retreat… leaving this afternoon and returning Sunday afternoon. I have been on a few of those retreats myself, but decided to stay home for this one. So I’ll have to take care of myself for a few days. And wouldn’t you know it… there is no football on this weekend… UNTIL Liz gets back on Sunday!... just in time for the Super Bowl. Now with the New Orleans Saints playing the Indianapolis Colts, I guess I will have to root for the Indianapolis “Horses” (see Memory Lane). It should be a good game.

By the way… Jim, how do you think we did on signing day this week? I really don’t follow it closely but I heard that the Bulldogs didn’t do so well… and the Gators got the best signing class in the country. @#%&# The rich get richer.

Have a great weekend everyone! Reporting live from Mushy Marietta… this is Don.

DON, ACCORDING TO ESPN, I BELIEVE THEY RATED THIS
GA CLASS AS 12TH IN THE COUNTRY. IT HAD BEEN RATED
AS HIGH AS 4TH UNTIL THEY LOST THREE PLAYERS IN THE
LAST COUPLE OF DAYS. BUT--- WE DID GET WHAT APPEARS
TO BE SOME GOOD SUSPECTS FOR D-E-F-E-N-C-E!!! ONE
MONSTER OUT OF GMC AT SAFTY! SUPPOSED TO BE A REAL
HITTER! I SAW HIM AT GMC AND HE WILL TAKE A HEAD OFF!!!
LETS JUST HOPE AND SEE!

Here's wishing Ray and Kay a very happy birthday--one day early. Sunday's are my busiest day, so I don't want to risk missing saying "Happy Birthday!" I have lots of happy memories of both of you. Of spending days in Sandy Cross with you when we were little, and of trick-or-treating with you a couple of times. I guess I thought Sandy Cross treats were better than Enterprise treats.
Something tells me you guys will have a wonderful day. Love you both.

Thanks for the "Signing Update" Jim. I'm glad to see the Bulldogs are working on the Defense. Maybe with that new Defensive Coordinator from the Cowboys and some fresh blood... they can keep the opposition off the scoreboard so much this fall. Go Dawgs!

Diane,Diane,Diane... Sunday is supposed to be a DAY OF REST!... not your busiest day. But I would like to join you in wishing both Kay and Ray a HAPPY BIRTHDAY tomorrow. My two years at OCHS would not have been the same without them either. May God bless you both on your 60th... the rest of us in the Class of '68 will be joining you in the weeks and months ahead.

Is anyone besides me going to watch the Super Bowl?

02/06/10 06:59 PM #1252

Diane Harris (Moore)

Dick actually wrote something in the User Forum! He didn't even tell me, and I didn't even have to nag! I did however threaten to nag, so I guess the mere threat was enough. Wow. He actually wrote something.

It's cold. We are snowed in. Dick wrote about memories. I am happy. It takes so little to make simple folk like me happy.

Don seconded my "Happy Birthday" Ray and Kay. Nancy reminded me that she and I have several more months to go before we turn 60. I reminded her that I am still younger than she is.

I think I'll go hug my husband now for his compliance BEFORE the official nag. Positive reinforcement is important.

Oh, Don, we'll probably record most of the Super Bowl, and then review the commercials. Of course if we hear later that someone had a Joe Theisman kind of injury, we'll check that out too. I'm for whoever you're rooting for though.

02/06/10 09:22 PM #1253

Kathy Carter (Campbell)

Happy birthday to Kay and Ray, hope you have a wonderful celebration.

We'll be watching the superbowl and singing "When the Saints Go Marching In".

who dat?

02/07/10 12:40 PM #1255

Connie Morgan (White)

Happy, happy birthday Kay and Ray!!!

Gail, how was the show? I'm going to see George Strait and Reba later this month.
Kathy, I hope you are feeling better.
Dick, great to hear from you.
Don, did Liz get snowed in?
Diane, I know you are the best cook (like your mother).
Jim and Don, I have high hopes for the bulldogs next year (no matter how the signing class went). Coach Richt and his family were at our Church this a.m. - one of his sons played the piano and sang with a group of young people as part of our worship service. I think Coach Richt is such a good, Godly man.
Gary, does Sherron have any new projects for you?

Hope all of you have had a good week-end. So nice to see the sunshine today.

Yes, I'll be watching the super bowl this evening. I don't really have a "dog in this fight" (but maybe next year Falcons!), but think I'm leaning more for the Colts. Watched Nascar kick off last night. My driver could have finished better -- but he could have finished worse. :)

I am very much enjoying the "memory lane". Seems we all share many similarites.

WHO DAT SAY WHO DAT!!! I can't believe we have got to hear that for A WHOLE YEAR! If you ask me the comm. were the best part of the whole game. Did you see the dog and the chip commercial? I laught so long and hard, I thought
I was going to need to go to the Hospital! It was good! And let's not forget those "go daddy" commercials! Makes you want look up "godaddy.com".
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAY AND KAY!!! AND NOT TO FEAR DIANNE, THE
60TH BIRTDAY WAS JUST LIKE THE 59TH. EXCEPT OF A KINDA SENSE OF WONDER AT HAVING MADE IT THIS FAR!!! I MEAN 60!
I DON'T FEEL LIKE I'M 60! ANYWAY, I REALLY HOPE YOU GUYS HAVE A GOOD ONE! OR AS THEY WOULD SAY IN THE CITY UNDER THE SEA! WHO DAT TURN 60!
AFTER-A-WHILE!!!

Is it Monday, AGAIN!!!! I should stay away more often. Its been real busy on the board though not all have been posting. We've had ten unique users sign on in February. Happy belated Birthday to Ray and Kay! I just did a quick check on Memory Lane and I've got to get over there and post some memories that have been triggered. Had a very busy weekend and needed to come back to work to get some rest. Looks like it never ends. No Connie - no NEW projects. I've got to finish some of the old ones. I've been working on our kitchen since September!!! Not that much left to do but NEED my interior designer (Sherron) to make a decision about the lights and paint - but somehow, its still my fault its not finished???? I guess that's one of them questions I'll have to ask God when I get to heaven. Hope you all have a blessed week. Later.

Well, I was pulling for the Colts, so I was a bit disappointed. But the Saints are a good team. Looks like our Falcons may have a tough time getting to the Super Bowl any time soon.

And, Jim, I was disappinted in the commercials too for the most part, but there were a few good ones. My favorite was the Snickers commercial with Betty White and the "touch" football game. Very funny! And besides, I like Snickers too. Yum.
