Gail Gabriel (Wilbanks)

Hello everyone! I'm catching up again and loving all your chatter. First, let me report that George showed up for his concert and a good time was had by all. Some had too good a time, a brawl broke out and the people on the row behind us were thrown out early into the concert. It started when a woman behind us started dancing in the aisle and when someone in the audience told her to sit down, she didn't take it kindly. Anyway, she and her supporters were escorted to the door by security. Connie, the George Strait and Reba concert should be great. I would like to see them too. Give us a report after you go.

Kathy, Hope you are doing well and that Rabun gets good news from his appointments. You are so sweet.

Diane, I would love to be visiting you right now. I love snow when I can sit at home in my robe and drink hot chocolate. Wish I was there. Tell Dick I enjoyed his list of memories. Those were the days.

Jim, Gary, Don, you guys are so entertaining. Keep those jokes and commentaries coming.

Hope everyone has a happy Valentine's day. Stay warm and God bless.

Thanks, Don, for the assignment you gave. I intend to try it, and am hoping it will keep me busy for hours.

Gary, I can honestly say I have all those admirable dog characteristics you mentioned, except I try to be selective with number 8.

Gail, you know I'd love to have you up here! I'd love to have ANYBODY up here, but most definitely someone with whom I could laugh and reminisce(sp). Glad you got to see George. I have seen Reba twice, and wish I could go see her and the other George, too.

Jim, yes, having one's husband in Philadelphia is good birth control. If, however, I do become "that way", I know I can count on the class of '68 to give me a baby shower. I will make out a gift registry at both "Babies R Us", and "Nursing Home Supplies".

To answer your question either Don or Gary, we have 14 inches of snow on the ground here. Schools opened two hours late today, but are back in session. I may try and shovel my walk way. Dick is scheduled at this point to leave at about 9 PM today. His 4 PM flight was cancelled again.

Y'all enjoy the pretty snow, or whatever you get. It's a wild winter all over, isn't it?

Blowing snow your way....

I was walking past the mental hospital the other day, and all the patients were shouting, ‘ 13….13….13. ‘

The fence was too high to see over, but I saw a little hole in the fence, so I looked through to see what was going on…..

One of them poked me in the eye with a stick!

Then they all started shouting ‘ 14….14….14 ‘…

Later.

Hello all,

Wow Don, you had an exciting Sunday! Being called Home while in church worshipping God is the best way to go Home. We were in a church service in Lagrange Ga. years &years ago and an older gentlemen went Home the same way.

Diane, I loved your joke. I hope Dick got home. I've been thinking about him up there in all that snow and wondering how much you had there in Ohio.

Connie, I hope you have a happy, sunny weekend. love you girl.

Jim, it sounds like those south of us may be getting more snow than predicted for us a bit north of you. I personally would love to see a few inches of soft pretty snow.

Don't forget your sweethearts and have a happy valentine weekend everyone.

“THE LOOK OF LOVE”… is in your eyes… the look your heart can’t disguise…“
(Dusty Springfield, 1967)

A Happy Valentine’s song for all of you lovers out there (that would be all of us I believe)… another great song from our high school years that was also used in the soundtrack of the James Bond movie “Casino Royale”. Dusty Springfield was not a huge star but could really sing those sensual, soulful love songs.

Well… tonight we have the Opening Ceremonies for the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, and Liz and I plan to watch. I hear that they are concerned about not having enough snow in Vancouver for some events. So they need your help, Diane!... You folks in the Midwest and Northeast might need to ship them a few flakes. Will any of you be watching any of the Olympic coverage the next two weeks? A lot of it will be televised. I know that winter sports aren’t as popular here in the South, but I do still enjoy the competition. Go USA! I’m just a sports fan anyway. My favorite events are the speed skating and the alpine skiing, but Liz enjoys the figure skating. Now one event I have never understood is “curling”. Maybe some of you can explain that one for me.

Gail… I’m happy to hear that George showed up for that concert and you enjoyed it, even with the aisle dancer. I think your comments are very entertaining too and I think you should join us as a regular contributor here on the forum. Please?

Fair warning to you guys out there… do NOT forget Valentine’s Day on Sunday. You will really be in the DAWGhouse if you do. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

By the way… I heard a rumor that Diane is pregnant. I’m wondering if it’s true, and if Dick knows about it? Inquiring minds...

Reporting live from the HEART… of Cobb County… with LOVE & HUGS… this is Don.

Thought I would take a moment from my busy schedule of trying to book a flight to Vancouver. I read over on the User Forum that I should attend the Olympic Games and then I read a moment ago that they need a few "flakes" up there. I've been called - its a sign!!!
Not much going on this morning. Everyone sitting around in anticipation of the "snow event". The Weather Guessers say either we will get nothing or it will eclipse last March's levels - or possibly somewhere in between. ???? I also considered attending the Global (Warming) Climate Change Conference scheduled for this weekend here in the Classic City to learn how Global Warming can make it snow or not. ???? I think I'll save my registration fees and stay in and watch it snow or get out and enjoy the sunshine - - which ever. Did you read that Pluto (the maybe planet) has shown significant climate change over the last several years! Gosh! Man's carbon usage is far more reaching than even Al Gore suspected!! SAVE THE UNIVERSE!! SAVE THE UNIVERSE!! I'm SO HAPPY I have a God that loves me and I don't have to worry about what the climate is doing. I KNOW WHO is in charge of my climate (and its not Al Gore).
I hope you all have a Happy Valentine's Day. Later.

Say, Gary... as a veteran of the Navy, I was wondering if you saw video of the speech that Obama gave at the National Prayer Breakfast the other day. Several times during the speech, he referred to a Navy Corpsman serving in Haiti as a "Corpse-man", distinctly pronouncing the silent "p". You would think that the "Commander-in-Chief" would know how to pronounce the titles of the men and women who serve under him, and not call one of them a "dead man." Of course you know that he is the Commander-in-Chief of the Marine "Corpse" too.

OH...MY....GOODNESS! I can tell you guys are giddy with the anticipation of some southern snow! I thought I'd better comment just to add some intellectual depth to this forum. ...........OK, I'm through.

Can't address everyone, but Don, the nasty rumor was started by the National Enquirer. They have been outside all morning.

Gary, a hilarious clip you added! Jim, go crazy with the snow!

Dick got home about 12:30 AM last night (this morning?), and was glad to be back. We both were up early and went our separate ways, so I'm looking forward to the weekend with him here.

Don, yes, I do share your enjoyment of the Olympics, both summer and winter, and we'll be watching when we can. I would have gladly sent them snow from our driveway if I could. Speaking of the sports though, I literally cover my eyes when our team is doing some critical move, whether is the giant slalom or ice skating. I just can't stand to see them make a mistake, and have to peek through my fingers. Curling? I've seen it, but it doesn't keep me on the edge of my seat.

Better go. It was great to get out today after being cooped up since Monday.

By the way, Valentine wishes aren't just for romance. They are also for good friends, and all of you are mine. Thank you for how many smiles you have brought to me over the years, and especially the last couple.

Happy Valentine's Day, friends! Go make some heart shaped snowballs for someone you love--grandkids, spouse, or dog!

Oh how beautiful, how beautiful, how beautiful! I've been sitting in my chair watching the birds feed frantically this moning from the feeder we have on our window. Now we have such beautiful snow falling and covering the roofs of all my birdhouses, birds still coming in for food. How exciting it is to get snow this far down south!! I know that Diane & Dick don't get excited about seeing it since they have it all the time. Teresa may not get excited about it either since I'm certain she sees if often too.

Diane, so glad Dick got home safely.

Enjoy watching the snow fall for all of you who are getting it.

Jim, are you getting snow down there?

How about you, Judy?

Hope you all enjoy it as much as I am.

I understand that this day is one for the weather history books... the first time since records have been kept that snow has been on the ground in ALL 50 STATES on the same day... even snow in Florida and Hawaii!

It is a BEAUTIFUL snow here in Marietta!!! A winter wonderland! A perfect snow really... nice and fluffy with no wind. The trees in our back yard look like they have been draped with white lace. I think it is still coming down a little. Looks like we might have 3 or 4 inches. I took out some extra seed to feed the birds... they're scrambling for whatever they can find. It's a good evening to watch the Winter Olympics and spend a little time writing on the computer. I might just go over to Memory Lane and post a few more memories in a little while.

Hope you all enjoy the majestic beauty that God has blessed us with today. Have a great weekend!

Sure wish I was down there to enjoy the snow. I keep hearing how much fun it is from all my Facebook pals down there, not to mention my sister in Greene county. I sure hope y'all are enjoying it. Kathy, I too, love my bird feeders.

Gary, I just want to thank you for the informative article about the sport of curling. I knew some of it, but not that much. I intend to read it again to make be sleepy at bed time. I've told people so many times about how I used to sleep with curlers every night when I was in high school. I guess if I said that these days in "curling country" I'd ruin my reputation.

So sad about the young luger dying this morning. We didn't need to know him for it to break our hearts.

Oh, and Gail, I agree with the others. You need to post more often! Love you!

God bless.

I hope everyone survived the blizzard and some day you'll be sitting around the nursing home saying, "I remember the blizzard of 2010!" We got to leave work early Friday afternoon - 4:30 - HA!!! It was a little dicey getting home. Erin and her two little ones spent the night with us, in case they lost power out her way.
After the roads cleared Saturday afternoon and Erin left we went to visit Sherron's grandmother. She is 98+ and in her final days. We had a good long visit and I sat and listened to them stroll down their memory lane. When the end is near, there's not a lot left to do but wait and remember - the good times.
Tonight we went to the funeral home for visitation for Sherron's brother-in-laws, brother-in-law. He was headed home from a business trip and called to tell his wife that he wasn't feeling well. He pulled over to the side of the road and had a massive heart attack. He was 58. Its always sobering when a younger friend dies.
Well, not such cheery notes of Valentine's Day but that's life. I pray you each had a blessed day and will have an even better week. Later.

“Snow on the ground… snow on the ground… it looked real purty, that snow on the ground!” But they really faked us out this morning. Those meterologists predicted another half inch or so of snow here in Metro Atlanta, and all we got was more rain. But it did move through quickly and the sun is shining now!

It was a nice weekend, beginning with the Friday afternoon snow. And we watched some of the Winter Olympics. And we had a nice Valentine’s Day yesterday starting with Sunday School at 9:00 am, followed by a nice church service with a wonderful message on “Love and Respect”. At least no one died in the pews during yesterday’s service which was a definite plus. After church, we had a light lunch with an elderly friend before Liz and I went to a local theater to see a stage production called “Baby”… a romantic musical with one of our close friends in the cast. Then a nice romantic dinner afterward with a three cheese shrimp dip, salmon and sirloin, and ooie gooie caramel pie. Yummo! A long day, but very nice.

Gary, I am sorry to hear of the unexpected death of the young man in Sherron’s family, and the bitter sweet visit with Sherron’s grandmother. At age 98, I’m sure she has some great stories to tell, and I’m sure that you and Sherron blessed her just by listening.

Have a great week everyone! Maybe we can string together a few days of this wonderful sunshine.

02/15/10 10:25 AM #1306

Diane Harris (Moore)

Gary, as Don said, you did have a mixed weekend. Hope this week eventually brings sunshine, especially in light of the rain you are having. Don, I don't know if the sermon you heard on love and respect is based on the book I have called "Love and Respect" by Eggerichs, but it's an excellent book that we have recommended to many young couples. Old couples could benefit as well.

It's snowing like made here this morning, and I can't go to water aerobics, so I'm changing my exercise regimen. Maybe you'd like to follow suit. Here goes.

Exercise for People Over 50 (or 60)

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room on each side.

With a 5-lb potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hod them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.

Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato bags.

Then try 50-lb potato bags and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I'm at this level)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.

Good luck!

Gary Grice

Greetings and salutations. Diane, I heard about that exercise years ago and did pretty well until I got to your current stage ... and discovered that I had eaten all the taters. I just read that the originators of the climate change doctrine are now saying there has been NO temperature increase in the last 15 years and the famous Hockey Stick Graph, that won Al Gore a nobel prize can't be reproduced. Seems they have "lost" the data. Can you say "conspiracy"? I also understand that Harry Reid says the President should name someone with no judicial experience for the next Supreme Court opening. (I think I'll apply!) This would be in keeping with this administration's policy of - EXPERIENCE?- WHO NEEDS IT? VP, Joe Biden said last week that Iraq is the GREATEST achievement of the Obama administration. Today, Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton says Iraq is becoming a military dictatorship. ???? I think what we have here is a failure to communicate! Forgive me, my political frustration is showing. I guess I should be more supportive (politically correct)or I'll be labeled a traitor. (Segway to my contribution for your continued learning.) Later. *************** Due to the climate of political correctness now pervading America, Kentuckians, Tennesseans and West Virginians will no longer be referred to as ’HILLBILLIES.’ You must now refer to them as APPALACHIAN-AMERICANS. And furthermore… HOW TO SPEAK ABOUT WOMEN AND BE POLITICALLY CORRECT: 1. She is not a ‘BABE’ or a ‘CHICK’ – She is a ‘BREASTED AMERICAN.‘ 2. She is not ‘EASY’ – She is ‘HORIZONTALLY ACCESSIBLE..’ 3. She is not a ‘DUMB BLONDE’ – She is a ‘LIGHT-HAIRED DETOUR OFF THE INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY..’ 4. She has not ‘BEEN AROUND’ – She is a ‘PREVIOUSLY-ENJOYED COMPANION.’ 5. She does not ‘NAG’ you – She becomes ‘VERBALLY REPETITIVE.’ 6. She is not a ‘TWO-BIT HOOKER’ – She is a ‘LOW COST PROVIDER.’ HOW TO SPEAK ABOUT MEN AND BE POLITICALLY CORRECT: 1. He does not have a ‘BEER GUT’ – He has developed a ‘LIQUID GRAIN STORAGE FACILITY.’ 2. He is not a ‘BAD DANCER’ – He is ‘OVERLY CAUCASIAN.’ 3. He does not ‘GET LOST ALL THE TIME’ – He ‘INVESTIGATES ALTERNATIVE DESTINATIONS.’ 4. He is not ‘BALDING’ – He is in ‘FOLLICLE REGRESSION.’ 5. He does not act like a ‘TOTAL ASS’ – He develops a case of 'RECTAL-CRANIAL INVERSION.’ 6. It’s not his ‘CRACK’ you see hanging out of his pants – It’s ‘TROUSER CLEAVAGE'.

Diane… you had me going on the “potato bag” exercise… until you got to the 50 lb bag. Very funny! Liz goes to a local community indoor pool two or three times a week for exercises to help her back, and she has been in search of some simple exercises to do here at home to lose weight. I shared your potato exercise program with her and she is still rolling on the floor!

By the way… that “Love and Respect” sermon was based on Ephesians 5:22-33, from Paul’s instruction to “wives and husbands.” The pastor did reference a book with the title “Love and Respect”, and he did mention the author and I can’t remember his name. But I’m sure it must be the same book you mentioned.

Gary… I’m about as politically INCORRECT as you can get… and I do share your frustration with the current Administration. By the way… Happy President’s Day!
