Happy Birthday, Danny! You are a very special part of the memories that Dick and I have of our happy years at OCHS. Honestly, they do seem like yesterday.

More snow for us. Probably another 8 inches yesterday, I'm guessing. I'm going to put my boots on in a little bit and go outside to tend to the bird feeders, try and shovel the walkway to our front door, and take a couple of pictures. Everything I was supposed to do today got cancelled.

Dick left yesterday in heavy snow, flying back to Philadelphia. He should have been a mailman 'cause nothing seems to keep him from his tasks either. He flies back tonight, very late, business here tomorrow, then back to Philly tomorrow afternoon, then back home Thursday. I am always so thankful for the sound of our garage door opening late at night, 'cause it means God has given him another safe trip.

Gary, another funny one with the politically correct definitions. Getting truer every day.

May the day hold lots of joy for each of you.

Happy Birthday Danny! I hope you sign on again today to collect the rest of your birthday wishes. (He signed on a little after 9:00 this morning.) Leave us a note next time!!! Also, HAPPY FAT TUESDAY! In the Christian tradition, today the the final day before the beginning of Lent, also known as Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday), Faschingsdienstag, Malasada Day, Sprengidagur, Martes de Carnaval, and Pancake Day! All these terms refer to the last hurrah of overdoing it before the Lenten fasting begins. Celebrating by eating pancakes uses up your supply of oil, eggs, milk, and sugar, which you may be giving up until Easter. Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow, you diet! Later.

Okay boys and girls, clear your desk and take out one sheet of paper and one pencil. Time to take a political news quiz. Click HERE to see how smart you are. Later.

Woo Hoo! 92%! Missed the one about how much oil is imported. Wouldn't you know. Also got lucky on a guess about how many it takes to break a filibuster. Thanks, Gary. I don't get to feel "smart" ever. Ever.

Hello my frozen friends....

Happy birthday Danny. Would sure like to hear from you.

Diane, you did better than I did on the "quiz"!!! And some that I got right were just guesses. :(
Don, I too was pretty impressed with Diane and her inside exercise program (until I got to the end).
Gary, very sorry to hear of the death in your family.

No news here - just checking in to say hi. Really good to hear from several of you, and to have a laugh.

Happy Thursday! I've been supplanted from my office in order to replace a sewer line. One of the pleasures of working in a 60 year old building. I'm going to take advantage of the opportunity and take off tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will hold and I can get a lot of work done at my brother's house.
I've never developed a dedication to sports like Don but I do enjoy watching special events, the Super Bowl, World Series, the Olympics and WWF Raw (just kidding). I do admire the athletic ability of the wrestlers. I've wondered how a 300 lbs man can fly through the air and land on someone without killing them. You have to admit that requires a lot of athletic ability. I was talking with my daughter and we were discussing the difference in the summer and winter games and of course, Curling came up and the comment by one competitor that in preparation for a match, he goes out and eats a large pizza. We surmised that most of the winter competitions involve balance - point your nose downhill and DON'T FALL!!! I have been very impressed by the personal stories about the winning athletes and how they "overcame" adversity. I look back on my life and realize that it was only throught adversity that I grew. The first part of that word is "ad". All of the difficulties I've faced have added to my life by making me appreciate every moment even more. I know this is stretching a point, but the middle of that word "vers" makes me think of a portion of a song. So through adversity, another verse is added to the song of my life. In order for a person to truly be blessed, they must face adversity. Enough of the Gospel according to Grice. I hope you each have a blessed day and a great weekend. Later.

I am devastated! The USA lost to Denmark in curling. I don’t think I can carry on.

I do agree with you Gary that it is through adversity that we grow. I’ve seen it in my own life. It is tough to see some of the Olympic athletes who have trained and prepared for years for their big moment, and then a slip here or a fall there, and their dream comes crashing down. But it is the true champion that overcomes those things and then goes on to victory. Actually, the good ole US of A is doing really well at the Winter Olympics! I think we are leading the medal count right now. It has been really great! The speed skating is outstanding… I love to watch Apollo Ohno. And I watched Lindsey Vonn in the downhill. It is amazing how she won a gold medal even with that injured leg. Talk about overcoming adversity. And even more amazing, I heard that the Winter Olympics actually beat “American Idol” in the TV ratings Wednesday night. Wow! Talk about a major upset!

Gary… I enjoyed the Political News Quiz a few days ago too. Yes I took it… and all I can say is my very smart Cousin Diane did better than I did. I pride myself on staying informed on current events and politics, and the quiz was really not as tough as I thought it would be. But, like Connie, I did have to make a guess on a couple of those questions… and mine were wrong guesses. But it was fun! Congratulations, Diane!

Well, there was some real excitement in Atlanta yesterday. I have been living here in the metro area for 37 years now and traffic has always been a challenge. But yesterday was a first. A ZEBRA escaped from the Barnum and Bailey Circus and ended up on the Downtown Connector at rush hour! The poor animal looked very scared and I really felt sorry for him. But the authorities were finally able to corral him and get him safely back to the Circus. The show must go on.

I’m up early today… I’ve been busy this week with a project I’m working on, so haven’t had much time for the forum. I have really enjoyed the sunshine the last few days and I understand that it might last through the weekend. Hallelujah!!! And today is the first real sign of Spring… Atlanta Braves pitchers and catchers report for Spring Training in Florida! Can I get an "Amen!"

Have a great weekend everyone! I think I might enjoy a large pizza! You never know when I might be called on to take part in a little curling.

Reporting live from Marietta… and looking forward to another SUNNY day... this is Don.

Mornin' all. Don, I talked to my sister last night and she was telling me about the zebra in Atlanta. That had to have been a sight to see. Many years ago I was out driving in a light mist, and traffic came to a stop. I was fussing that there must be a fender bender ahead. But, no, as I peered forward I saw a line of elephants walking across the street, with one elephant's trunk holding the tail of the one ahead of him. Well, I thought I was halllucinating! Come to find out, the B&B circus had come to town, and the elephants were walking from the circus train to the arena. Found out later that was a tradition, but I'll never forget how I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Better go. I've got splish splashing to do this morning, but I'd like to comment more on the Olympics, which are so enjoyable.

Oh, and Don, about that "quiz". As they say, even a broken watch is right twice a day. I got lucky.

Have a terrific weekend one and all.

I just heard that the Gold Medal that Lindsey Vonn won in the Downhill at the Winter Olympics has been taken away from her... and given to Barack Obama because he has been going downhill faster than she has.

I NEED A MASSAGE!

The weekend here in Marietta was beautiful! So I spent most of the day Saturday working in the yard, using muscles that have been hibernating the last couple of months. As a result, I woke up Sunday morning with a sore back, legs, neck and shoulders.

To complicate matters, Sunday was the first day of our Annual Missions Festival at church, and I had to take photos of all the festival activities… the church service with a Parade of Nations and special guest speakers, a children’s festival and an international reception that followed with exhibits and food from around the world. It was over three hours of non-stop photography, click, click, click, running all over the church, up and down stairs, in the balcony, on the floor, bending and kneeling, with two cameras hanging around my neck and carrying a heavy camera bag over my shoulder. It was fun and exciting, but by the time I was done at 1:00, I was really exhausted and those muscles were really barking. I’m paying for it today, and I’m not even 60 years old! It’s a good thing I’m not still down on the farm milking cows.

I had a great week-end of having my 3 grandchildren here with me. So nice to be out in that beautiful weather!

Gary, I could read that... interesting.

Don, I'd love a massage too. They are so relaxing, and it has been much too long since I've had one. I read in the Oglethorpe Echo that someone has a massage place here in Crawford. I may have to give her a call soon.

I hope you all have a good week!

Diane Harris (Moore)

Connie, I'm so happy you had a great weekend. I'm also happy to read about your nice, warm weather. We're not close to that yet, and when that first sunny and warm day comes, I'm going to shout for joy.

Connie, I've never, ever had a massage. About every gal pal I have has had one, but I feel guilty to buy one for myself. I'd love one, but the guy I live with hasn't picked up on the hint yet. In the meantime I will have to experience it vicariously.

Just checking in with my dear buddies from days of 'yore. My favorite sport of curling isn't on the tube tonight, so I'll have to check out the ice dancing I guess.

Gary, I could read that, too. Don't know if that's good or bad, but like Connie said, it's interesting.

Ah a massage.... I would always make a comment to Sherron as we travelled from Winterville to Watkinsville, that I needed to stop at the "Happy Spa" and get a massage and possibly a shower. She would always respond, "I bet you do" and give me that "If you do, I'll slap the dodo out of you" look. But alas they have now closed their doors, replaced by a Verizon store. I think the local chief of police encouraged their departure. When I was working on computers for the county I spent a lot of time at the Police Department (and the Jail) - got to hear a lot of good stories including some about the "Happy Spa".
You know its funny how we can become sooooo disappointed when things don't go our way - and when God goes to work, I feel like such a fool for ever doubting. I had arranged for a friend's brother pick-up the scrap metal around Larry's house. He had had a hard time keeping a job, etc., etc. so I thought it would help us both out. Needless to say, I found out why he has a hard time keeping a job. Yeah, he was a no show. I was very disappointed. I looked on Craigslist and found someone who said they would pay me to pick-up the scrap so I gave them a call. Showed up on time and agreed to clean up everything around the house for the metal! What a blessing!!
Sherron was sick all weekend so I worked at my brother's house by myself. About 10:00 Saturday morning I took a break and sat in the swing on his deck while I consumed my morning snack. It was still cool but the sun felt so warm on my face. You could feel spring approaching. I just sat there in solitude and took it all in. Better than ..... a massage.
I hope you all have a BLESSED day and week - times a wasting, go get that massage. Later.

I DRIVE A TOYOTA.

Anyone else out there? If so, have you been recalled? I have not. My Daddy would not drive anything but a Chevrolet, and I drove his cars through high school and college. From the time I graduated from UGA in 1973 until the fall of 1978 when I bought my first NEW car, I depended largely on MARTA to get around Atlanta. That first new car was a 1979 Toyota Corolla. I loved it… very economical and dependable… never any problems with it. That’s all I ever wanted in a car… nothing fancy, nothing to impress, just something I could count on. So, as the years passed by, I bought another Toyota, and another one, and another one, and another one. Right now, we have a 2001 Corolla and a 2006 Corolla. Our Toyotas have taken us on a lot of long trips, including that 3,000 mile journey through the Midwest and Northeast last fall. We have had no problems with the ones we own. However, I must admit I would be very concerned if I bought a Toyota in the last few years. I think that Toyota will eventually get this mess straightened out, but I will definitely think about waiting a few years before I consider buying another one.

By the way… when do you think that someone will tell Barack Obama and his Socialist Comrades that the American people DO NOT want his government run health care program? The man just doesn’t get it. Down on the farm we would call him “stubborn as a mule”… or maybe "the south end of a north bound horse". Now, Don… there you go again.

02/24/10 10:36 AM #1331

Well Don, doesn't appear to be anyone else around this morning so I guess we can RANT a little. First - Toyota. My brother bought a 2007 Corolla, I am still making payments as it sits in my driveway awaiting insurance determination. I have driven it a little just to exercise it and have been very impressed. I have gotten used to higher vehicles and don't like rolling out of the driver's seat and then getting up off the ground. I had an Accord for several years and suffered the same feeling. I've had two Tacoma's over the years and loved them both - not a minute's trouble with either. My brother also had a 1994 Toyota 4X4 pickup with 187,000. I plan on keeping it so its in the shop today getting new tires, etc, etc. I figure I can put a couple of thousand into it and still come out ahead. He hadn't driven it in about a year and it sat in the woods under the trees. Will require a thorough cleaning once its in safe running condition.
Now STUPID!!!!! Reid was ranting yesterday about the Republicans complaining about his plan to use reconciliation to pass the health bill when it has been used by the Republicans so many times in the past. The story continued to list every time this parlimentary procedure has been used - they ALL had to do with BUDGET - the original intention of this process. About 2/3's of these actions LOWERED taxes and the net result was - now get this - INCREASED REVENUE!!!! DUH!!!! If you look at past tax changes, increase taxes reduce revenue - lower taxes, increase revenue. The OBVIOUS inverse relationship is even visible to Stevie Wonder. I've joined the Tax Revolt cyber march on Washington and would encourage everyone else to do so too. I personally favor the Fair Tax but whatever your preference, we've got to get rid of the corruption the current tax system fosters. Now I need a DRINK! Later.

I HEAR YOU BROTHER!!! I JOINED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND

THE MAN AND HIS CRONNIES WILL DESTROY US IN THREE YEARS.
HE, REID AND THAT IDIOT WOMAN ARE A BIGGER THREAT TO US
THAN ANY TERRORIST OR ENEMY WE HAVE EVER FACED!
BEWARE!!! BEWARE!!! BEWARE!!! IN THIS CASE THE SKY REALLY
IS FALLING! EVEN CHICKEN LITTLE WAS NOT AS SCARED AS THIS GROUP OF SOCIALIST SCARE ME!!! AND WHAT IS SO BAD WE ARE
LIKE SHEEP GOING ALONG LETTING THEM LEAD US STRIGHT TO THE SLAUGHTER HOUSE. AND WHY DON'T WE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT---WE MIGHT OFFEND OR NOT BE POLICALLY CORRECT IF WE SAY OR DO SOMETHING. WELL LOOK THEY ARE OFFENDING ME! I'M SORRY BUT THE VERY SIGHT OF THEM MAKES ME SICK. WE HAD BETTER WAKE UP NOW FOLKS!
