Did y'all get snow today? I've seen lots of facebook chatter about it.

Connie, just so you know, I'm probably going to have to wait for help to post pictures too on the "classmates photos" page. I am tempted to try, but there's no telling where they might end up. Talking about Mrs. Cook's typing class... that turned out to be one of the most useful skills I ever learned. It sure has served me better than trying to make that apron in Mrs. Callaway's class, although I loved her. One time the cover was left off of a floor outlet in the typing room, and I didn't know it. I slid my chair let down in it, and "bang!"-I blew out the whole electrical circuit for the lower hall. Dick did not take a keyboard class until college, and he still says it was the most useful class he ever took.

That was a very random and rambling paragraph. Sorry.

Viva la memories!

Good Morning, Sunshine!

With apologies to Gary, our resident Joker (and cat murderer) I could not resist passing along the following doctor joke.

ISRAELI DOCTOR SAYS: "Medicine in my country is so advanced that we can take a kidney out of one man, put it in another, and have him looking for work in six weeks."

GERMAN DOCTOR SAYS: "That is nothing; we can take a lung out of one person, put it in another, and have him looking for work in four weeks."

RUSSIAN DOCTOR SAYS: "In my country, medicine is so advanced that we can take half a heart out of one person, put it in another, and have them both looking for work in two weeks."

ILLINOIS DOCTOR SAYS: "You guys are way behind. We recently took a man with no brains out of ILLINOIS , put him in the White House and within SIX MONTHS, half the COUNTRY is looking for work."

Happy Wednesday one and all!!! I trust you are all having a GREAT week. The snow yesterday was beautiful. This morning as I went to clear the ice off Sherron's vehicle I was just over whelmed by the beauty of the ice crystals that had formed on the hood. They looked like thousands of feathers. A beauty that no man could replicate. The mixture of rain, sleet and snow along with temperatures fluctuating around freezing also worked to create the most unusual snow/ice formation I have ever encountered on her windshield. The sheet of snow/ice had curled from the top as it slid down her windshield to form a perfect cylinder about 18" long. I was able to pick it up and take it inside for her to see. I looked like I was carrying a torch. I hope you all will post some "historical" photos. The ones I posted were in an album my daughter made me for Christmas. Sort of a look at my life (so far). Sherron is working hard at de-cluttering and last night she tackled a large box of old photos we have accumulated from deceased family members. Many were of friends and distant family members no longer living. They ranged from the early 1900's to 1960's. Even some from out sojourns to Gatlinburg. I plan on scanning all of the ones we saved and will share as time permits. Now a personal note to all those that I know are just "dropping" by. Would you PLEASE scroll to the bottom of the page and click on POST RESPONSE. When the little window opens up, type "HI". Then click on SUBMIT. We want to know that you are visiting so we can wish you well and be assured you are reading those well wishes. Thank you. Later.

I must have been composing while Don was posting. I guess I need to clarify. Although guilty as an accomplice, I didn't pull the trigger. This is very important to note in the Classic City these days, as the Mayor and Commission voted to impliment a TNR (trap, neuter, release) ordinance for feral cats last evening.
FYI, we've had 7 different individuals sign on in the last 24 hours and 13 in the last thirty days. Not that I don't enjoy and appreciate everyone that posts here regularly, but I wish more of the "readers" would join us and become "writers".
And Don, your joke would have been funnier if it weren't so true. I read a news story this morning about how bad things are going to be IF we continue on our current spending course. That story confirms what I've been reading in "Aftershock". I'm still in the problem chapters and am speeding up my reading so I can get to the solution chapters before the next bubbles burst.
Later.

MY BAD, Gary. I don't know what the statute of limitations is for a cat murderer ACCOMPLICE, but I'm sure it ran out years ago. Although... the SPCA probably would not recognize such a thing.

For you who have no idea what we are talking about, check out the USER FORUM / GENERAL DISCUSSION / MEMORY LANE topic, and read Gary's last post... very funny! And while you are there, share a memory of your own. We would love to read it!

I was checking back in and notice that I haven't posted a joke. (Don't want Don to beat me out!) So here is your chuckle for the day. Later.

A little nine year old girl was in church with her mother when she started feeling ill.
"Mommy," she said. "Can we leave now?"
"No," her mother replied.
"Well, I think I have to throw up!"
"Then go out the front door and to the back of the church and throw up behind a bush."
In about two minutes the little girl returned to her seat. "Did you throw up?" her mother asked.
"Yes," the little girl replied.
"Well, how could you have gone all the way to the back of the church and return so quickly?"
"I didn't have to go out of the church, Mommy." the little girl replied.
"They have a box next to the front door that says, 'For the sick'."

Sharing happiness doubles it. Therefore, I am sharing with y'all that we have real, bonafide sunshine here today! After many, many, many days of clouds, the sky is blue and sunny. It's still cold, and I try to be pretty upbeat no matter what the weather, but it's amazing how sunshine has already made me feel more energetic and hopeful for all that I need to do today. In addition, I brought in mail late last night and among the junk was a beautiful card with a bright daffodil on the front. It was a "just because" card from someone who knows how eager I am to see daffodils, and it gave me a huge lift at the end of a tiring day. Thanks, Connie. That was the sweetest thought!

By the way, everyone.....I don't like you just because we are from the same place and have a bunch of common memories. That really makes it fun to know you, but I LIKE you because of who you are NOW. If I never knew you before, and met you just yesterday, I'd want you for my friend. I hope that's a compliment.

Off to enjoy clear roads and lots of sunshine.....

Another beautiful day here in the Classic City. I had to go to the doctor the other day with a swollen foot. After a careful examination, the doctor gives me a pill big enough to choke a horse.
He said, "I'll be right back with some water."
The doctor was gone a while and I lost patience so I hobbled out to the drinking fountain and forced the pill down. After hobbling back into the examining room the doctor came back with a bucket of warm water and said
"OK, after the tablet dissolves, soak that leg for at least 30 minutes." Later.

The other day our president spoke on healthcare reform, surrounded by a bunch of doctors. Later they were interviewed to get their "honest" opinions.
The Allergists voted to scratch it, and the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.
The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it.
The Neurologists thought congress had a lot of nerve, and the Obstetricians felt they were all laboring under a misconception.
The Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted; the Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Pediatricians said, "Oh, grow up!"
The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, the Radiologists could see right through it, and the Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing.
The Internists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and the Plastic Surgeons said, "This puts a whole new face on the matter."
The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists felt the scheme wouldn't hold water.
The Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and the Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.
In the end, the Proctologists left the decision up to the assholes in Washington.

Later.

Very good, Gary! A lot of truth in there too. I'm not a doctor... and I don't play one on TV. However, if this Health Care Bill gets passed, and I were a Sex Therapist, I'd say that we will all get screwed.

My apologies for that one folks... I think I need to check my blood pressure.

Good morning folks<
Don, don't worry about it, I'm just glad some of us still
have a blood pressure to check. I know these folks are
taking us down a path, which I'm sure we want be able to
escape. Make's you wonder if there is something else we
can do.
At any rate supposed to be a wonderful weekend. I hope
each of you are able to get outside and enjoy! have a great weekend mates!
One other thing, my youngest daughter Kristen pass her
nursing exit exam yesterday! I will finally finish school
when she gets her "sheeps skin" May 8th.

“PRAISE YOU IN THIS STORM”… “And I'll praise you in this storm… and I will lift my hands… for You are who You are… no matter where I am…” (Casting Crowns, 2005)

Liz and I are off to a ROCK concert tonight… we’re going to WOODSTOCK! Love & Peace, man! I guess I should explain. Are any of you familiar with CASTING CROWNS, the Christian Rock Band? They have a soft rock/pop/contemporary gospel music style and are very hot right now. They have won a Grammy Award and many Dove Awards and performed live on “Huckabee” on the Fox News Network. They also had one of the songs in the soundtrack for the movie “Fireproof.” One of their eight #1 hit singles, “Praise You In This Storm” is one of the songs we often sing in our own worship choruses at church. Liz and I have tickets for their sold out concert at First Baptist Church of WOODSTOCK (Georgia) tonight. SHOULD BE GREAT!

Since I’ve been the principle cook in our household the last few years, I am also the grocery shopper. On my last trip to Kroger a couple of days ago, I went out of control and picked up a can of sardines (I blame Connie), a can of vienna sausage (I blame Diane) and a can of Spam (I blame myself)! This “Memory Lane” thing is really getting to me. I can’t remember having any of those three “delicacies” since the late fifties / early sixties. Liz’s one word response when I brought them home…”Yuk!” So, I don’t expect her to partake, but my own taste buds are in for a retro shock wave! SHOULD BE GREAT!

By the way… not much on TV last night, so I posted more photos on the Memory Lane Photo Gallery and put some on the Wedding Day Gallery too... as Gary mentioned. I’m looking forward to seeing some photos from the rest of you on there soon. SHOULD BE GREAT!

TGIF, folks! Perhaps Diane and our other Northern friends and family think that “TGIF” now stands for “The Ground Is Frozen”, but Spring is on the way! It looks like we are in for warmer weather and plenty of sunshine here in Georgia. Have a nice weekend everyone! SHOULD BE GREAT!

Reporting live from the SUNNY South… and wishing you Love & Peace... this is Don.

Don I hope you really enjoy your concert and the special culinary delicacies. If Liz doesn't like the Spam (a Hawaiian favorite), I understand you can polish your car with it. When I was stationed in Montgomery, AL we had a fellow that was into some more "non-standard" dietary delicacies. He first got me trying baby crabs in mustard sauce - comes in a sardine can. Not bad on saltines. Next, he found a slaughter house in the area and would pick up "something" and bring it by the office before he took it home and prepared it. I got to try beef tongue and heart. They would have tasted better if I hadn't seen them before cooking but still not bad. There is something very unattractive about a warm cow's tongue on a piece of butcher paper. I always tried to sample the local cuisine wherever I traveled (if it was safe). Sometimes you just know - better not eat that, whether you knew what it was or not. Having a sweet tooth, I especially enjoyed the breads and pastries. One day I purchased what appeared to be a little cake from a sidewalk vendor. After removing the cellophane wrapper, there appeared to be an inner wrapper like thin styrofoam so I began peeling it away before consuming this very juicy, sweet cornbread. About halfway through, a local stopped us and informed us that the "styrofoam" was to be consumed also. It was like spun sugar. Boy was that good (much better than beef tongue or heart).
I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend and will find time to add to the Memory Lane pictures. Later.

The only thing about eating sardine Don is the smell
stays with you for a long time. When we were in Vietnam
we couldn't carry sardines into the field. The
Cong could smell them for miles. It made it easy for them
to locate your position and attack. So---- no sardines in
the Nam! So if you find yourself in the Nam this weekend just take to heart the warning.
Have a great weekend folks!

Gail Gabriel (Wilbanks)

Hi everyone, it's me again. Some sad news to pass along and I'm sorry it's late. Jesse Allen (Pete) Bray's father-in-law passed away Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Hicks have been living with Carol and Pete for sometime due to their poor health. My heart goes out to Carol in the loss of her father.

Jim, I gotta tell you, you crack me up. You do have a way with words. Your warning about Nam was great. And if, due to reasons beyond my control like a "rogue wave", I find myself in Nam this weekend, you can bet your last dollar I will not eat sardines in the jungle. On a serious note, as a military mom and a flag-waving patriot, I thank you and our other veterans for your service. I cannot imagine what it was like to serve in Vietnam, but I thank you for doing it. Congrats to your daughter on completing her nursing degree. You have every reason to be a proud dad.

Connie, your mentioning the kids playing ball brings back fond memories of my boys playing ball across the street from your house. Those were good days.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend and enjoying the sunshine. I'm lovin' it!!!

Connie Morgan (White)

Jim, congratulations to your daughter! (and you) I just got home from my 38th. nursing school class reunion. That's a lot of years...

Sure like the pictures that have been posted.

Hope you are all having a good w/e.

Kinda quiet around here. Guess most have come down with a severe case of Spring Fever. Bright sunny day here in the Classic City, temps in the low 70's and NO STUDENTS. Nothing but peace and quiet - sort of like here on the board. Good to see Gail post. Hope she comes back often. Sorry to hear about (Jesse Allen's)Pete's father-in-law. Guess I should get back to watching the blue sky - scheduled to disappear tomorrow for a few days.

Blue skies smilin' at me
Nothin' but blue skies do I see
Bluebirds singin' a song
Nothin' but bluebirds all day long

Never saw the sun shinin' so bright
Never saw things goin' so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, my how they fly

Blue days, all of them gone
Nothin' but blue skies from now on
Nothin' but blue skies from now on

A gorgeous day here in Marietta! But, as Gary says, better enjoy it now… rain is on the way.

The Casting Crowns concert Friday night was great! If any of you are familiar with the First Baptist Church of Woodstock, it holds 7,000 people! And the place was sold out!.. packed wall to wall! Most of the crowd was young people (much younger than us). We are “young at heart” but I’m talking about teens, twenties, thirties. Anyway, it was definitely a ROCK concert… with a Christian message. Especially one of the opening acts, Kutless. Not your Daddy’s “Old Rugged Cross.” The rafters were shaking… lots of drums and electric guitar. You could feel the bass vibrating. Stirred up the old "rock & roller" in me. The music was LOUD, but the message was the GOSPEL. I’ve never seen so many well behaved young people praising God! Gives you some hope for this messed up world.

Saturday for lunch, I opened that can of sardines and a can of vienna sausage and ate them with soda crackers. And Jim… when I opened that can of sardines, all Liz said was, “Whew!!! That stinks!” It was enough to chase a terrorist to the jungle! I must admit, I remember them tasting better in my youth. They were not bad, but that was enough of my culinary trip down Memory Lane… at least for another 50 years or so. I still may try that SPAM, but my car does need polishing.

By the way Jim… I’ve been following some of the Braves Spring Training games on radio. They are really high on that new kid Jason Heyward. He is really bashing the ball!... he hit a homerun 450 feet today! And heaven knows we need another good bat in the lineup. I know it’s early yet but he could be one to watch!

Well… I need to work on taxes, but I’m thinking it’s time again to write letters to our Congressmen and Senators to stop “Obamacare”. Time for action!!!

Have a great week everyone.

By the way... I saw in the news where TWO women died yesterday... each one at age 114 years old! Now 60 sounds very young! Rock on, baby!

03/09/10 08:25 AM #1378

Gary Grice

Don, you ruined my week! TAXES!!!! YUCK!!!!!
Well another bright sunny day here in the Classic City - that should make things better til the rain comes tonight. Also, I had to go by the credit union at the Supply School this AM and got to speak to Nancy on her way to work - FOXY as ever. (I just added that cause she says she checks in but can't post). Seriously, her warm smile added another ray of sunshine to my day. Thank you Nancy. I added some more pictures last night. I'm thinking we should have a "Most Beautiful Baby" contest. Don and I were such cute little fellows we can give anyone a run for their money. But then Ron's hair do would probably give him an edge. You know, I remember when they used to comb my little brother's hair like that. Every hair combed to the top of his head and then curled over the fingers. Do moms still do that? Guess I should get to work - I actually have a lot to do today. I hope you each have a blessed week! Later.

Diane Harris (Moore)

Gary and Don, you guys are whizzards! I tried to post a baby picture, and it might as well have been rocket science. I'll fool with it again later tonight and see if I can size it better and fix the font. I will persist until I get the hang of it. In the meantime, I will sacrifice all my pride so that others will know that "If she can do it, I know I can!" It has caused me to look back through lots of old photos, and I'm still not done.

Have loved all the recent entries. Gary, your little ditty about marriage made me look for a poem I wrote many years ago. Haven't found it yet, but I know it's in that mysterious land of "somewhere". Gail, sweetie, it was soooo good to hear from you, and you need to stop by more often.

I gotta go. So much going on.

I'll keep trying with that site. I love it! You were such cute little guys and I love seeing your families. What precious days. Gary, you look like your mama.

03/09/10 12:11 PM #1380

Jimmy Willis

Don, I've been trying to keep up with the Braves in the
paper and sports cast info. Yes, they are bashing the ball. Just hope they can keep it going when the pitching
catches up. They sure are scoring lots of runs.
Man, I'm so ready for spring. 70 degree weather, I remember we would be training at Fort Benning, we would
finish a class and we would lie down by the building letting the sun bake us. I can feel that sun right now.
The first warm days of the season! I am so ready!
And Gail/Connie thanks for the well wishes! It's a bit unreal but someone in my family has been in school 44 of
the last 60 years!!!!
And Gary I think your mother was much better looking!!!
Thank the good Lord!

03/09/10 02:21 PM #1381

Diane Harris (Moore)

Oh, Jimmy, I meant to wish say congratulations, too!! I always wanted to be a nurse like Connie. It's such a noble profession. You must be so very proud of your daughter. You fellas are always saying something that merits congratulations. It's hard to keep up!

03/09/10 09:01 PM #1382

Connie Morgan (White)

I love the pictures!! Gary, you do look like your pretty mother. Don, you and Ron must have had such good times.
Diane, yours were so good. I did love your sweet mother and daddy. Fun to see the wedding pictures. Dick sure looked happier with Nancy hugging him than he did with me!
(at least you got your pictures on the site. I have no idea where to start)

Oh yeah - Diane wanted to be a nurse. I seem to recall a few years of talking and planning on Nancy, Diane and me going to nursing school together. Y'all will have to ask them WHAT HAPPENED??? I remember well when they both told me that they were not going to Augusta with me. Sent me down there by myself.

Good to hear from you Gail!

So far I've had 2 Mondays this week. Hoping for tomorrow to be a better day. I hope you are all doing well!

03/10/10 08:34 AM #1383

Gary Grice

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Alvin and Steve (tomorrow)!!! I hope you are checking in periodically and will pick up our well wishes.
DIANE - GREAT pics. You done good girl! Thank you for sharing with us. Okay everyone else..... Maybe we need to have a Photo Upload Get Together. I'll check with my social secretary and maybe we could hold it at my house. It will be at least the end of April though. Anyone interested?
Connie, so sorry your week in not going well. I pray things will turn around today and you can get on with the week. Remember, only two more days til FRIDAY!!
Looks like the rain is here for a couple of days. Good excuse to stay in and SCAN YOUR PICTURES!! or as Don keeps reminding me WORK ON YOUR TAXES!!!
I hope everyone has a blessed day!! Later.
