Some names just fit their profession .... and others should find another profession.

Here it is Friday already and I Feel Like Dancing.  Congratulations to Teresa on the new granddaughter!  Hopefully she will drop in and post some pictures soon.  We are on standby for the arrival of ours (#7).

Yes, Diane, Fall is in the air.  There was a thunderstorm rolling through this morning so we didn't get to walk.  But the last couple of mornings I could really feel the change.  The moon peeping from behind some passing clouds just added to the feeling.

The season of sports choices is set to begin - to watch football, baseball, go hunting or play golf.  Decisions, decisions, decisions.  I guess that's why God gave us Tivo!  I guess I'm lucky not being a sports fanatic.  Maybe I'll just grab my honey and go on a picnic!!

I hope you all have a VERY blessed weekend.  Later.

FYI - We've now had over 10,000 visits to the website since its inception in April 2008!!!

Just noticed that Junior Smith has a birthday this Sunday - Happy Early Birthday JR!!!  Later.

Diane Harris (Moore)

Taking a quick moment out of a busy Sunday to wish Junior Smith a very, very happy birthday! Hope it's great, Junior! You lived just down the road from me, and your family and mine were lifetime friends. It was a good little place to grow up, wasn't it? My very best to you, and to your whole family.

08/29/10 05:38 PM #1739

Donald Chandler

My best wishes to Junior also for a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!  I don't know if he ever checks in with us here on the website, but if he doesn't, I hope that someone who knows him and sees him will let him know that we are sending Birthday Blessings his way.  Have a great one, Junior!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

BRAVES WIN!!!  BRAVES WIN!!!  Another amazing comeback!

Well Happy Monday!  I woke up today to discover that human rights violations in the good ole USA (specifically Arizona's Immigration Law) trumps slicing off body parts and genocide in other parts of the world.  I guess my "non-progressive" standards are inverted.  I did discover something with which I can agree with PBO:

*** During a conversational 15-minute speech, Obama poked fun at himself telling the crowd that when he was photographed last weekend riding a bike with his children, he looked like Urkel. For those unfamiliar with Steve Urkel, he was the nerdy, bespectacled semi-hero on the long running sitcom “Family Matters.” The show was centered on an African-American middle class family living in Chicago.

Maybe someday he will examine the economic collapse he has engineered for this country and say, "Did I do that!"

It looks like I'll be batching it this week as Sherron will probably be headed to Hickory this afternoon to await the arrival of our new granddaughter.  I'll keep you posted.  I hope you all have a VERY BLESSED week.  Later.

Jim... I was on the couch watching the game and dozed off when the Braves were behind 6-1... my belly was full after a nice lunch and I couldn't keep my eyes open.   :-)   I woke up at the top of the 8th and the score was still 6-1.  The Braves scored three in the bottom of the eighth to make it 6-4, and I thought to myself that it might be an interesting ninth inning.  Sure enough, they got men on base with a little help from the Marlins, and both Diaz and McCann homered!  This team is AMAZING!  Just take your meds, Jim... and hang on for the ride!  Now we need to take 3 out of 4 from the Mets!  GO BRAVES!... and GO DAWGS!

Have a good week, mates!

08/30/10 08:27 PM #1743

Connie Morgan (White)

Junior, the birthday wishes are late, but very sincere!  I sure hope you had a special day, and that it will be a good year.

Gary, all good wishes for your soon-to-be-born little one and all the family!

You Braves fans have gotta be loving all the excitement!  Personally, I want the Dawgs to just go on and get several points ahead early in the game.  I'm with Jim, my old heart just can't take too many close games.

I haven't written lately because who wants to hear:  I ate, I slept, I went to work, I gained weight - day after day...    I do hope all of you are doing well, and I enjoy hearing from those of you who write!!

Have a great week!

HELLO MATES!

Everything is great in Middle Georgia! I had enough courage last

nite to keep the Braves on til the end of the 9th. and they WON! BIG!

Anyway, Connie I don't know about the rest of us but it makes a

difference to me if we hear from you! It lets me know that the folks

who were a very big part of my life are ok. And it may seem silly but

I check everyday to see who has checked in. For some reason it makes

me feel better that day. So fess up folks and check in you'll feel better.

At least it will let us know that every once in a while you're thinking

about us also!

Later,

Jim

Gary Grice

Connie, maybe I should "get a life", but I would love to hear  how you "ate, slept, went to work, and gained weight - day after day..."    Later.

08/31/10 02:41 PM #1746

Donald Chandler

Connie... I agree with Jim and Gary... It brings a smile to my face when you check in, and when everyone else checks in too.  I check everyday, several times a day.  And Connie... even if it is just to say you ate, you slept, you worked, you gained weight... It's still good to hear from you.  I know I post a lot of boring stuff on here but I still do it anyway.  It's always nice to touch base.

That was good one last night, Jim... our cable is out, so I may not get to "see" the game tonight, but I will listen on radio.  GO BRAVES!   BTW, Jim... I saw a report the other day where this young minor league pitching prospect for the Cincinatti Reds at Louisville had a fastball clocked at 105 mph!!!... and his slider was in the low 90's.  They say that Bob Feller was once clocked at 107.9 mph.  Wow!  But I think they are going to destroy these kids arms with that kind of velocity (Strasburg is already having Tommy John surgery).  Power isn't everything... just ask Greg Maddux.

Diane Harris (Moore)

Connie, I LOVE to hear from y'all, even when there's no news to speak of. I share the fellas opinion on that one. Besides, I eat (and eat some more), sleep, (a little bit), and don't work, ( I really miss paydays!), and gain weight, too. I can't wait to get to heaven and get that new body!

See, I have no news either, but I still wrote something. Oh, one thing. It's hot and dry here, and the grass is parched and my flowers have their tongues hanging out. We have the church softball team over Friday night for a picnic, volley ball, and corn hole (never heard of that 'till a couple years ago), and I sure hope the cool front arrives by then 'cause I can't get them all in the house.

Gary, I look forward to that new little arrival of yours. Now, that will be news!

Don, Jim, keep me up to date on the Braves. I get my best updates from y'all.

Everybody else? Love y'all, too. Nancy, I'll bet you are a busy little girls these days at the Navy School.

08/31/10 05:50 PM #1748

Connie Morgan (White)

I love y'all!

Diane, there was a nice article in todays Athens paper about your cousin (and UGA's new athletic director).  By the way, do y'all have plans to come to Ga. this fall?

Just 4 days til that 1st. UGA game.   Go Dawgs!!!

Kathy, I sure hope you've enjoyed your mountain trip.

Gary, how's the baby watch?  I have a grandbaby due in December, and we are very thankful.

Jim, are you holding up well with all the wedding planning going on around you?  When is the wedding?   We want to get-together this fall, but sure want you and Beth to be able to come.

Don, what you write is never boring!  I look forward to checking this site every day and am always so glad when someone has written!  Our 40th. class reunion and the renewal of frirendships has been such a blessing in my life!

Good luck Braves, and get ready to cheer for the DAWGS!

Good morning one and all!  Sherron is in Hickory awaiting the arrival of Lila - but "like most wormen", she is making us wait.   Sherron can't decide if to continue to stay there or come home and await further developments.  I'm headed to Madison for a meeting today but just wanted to take a moment and comment on nothing.  I was thinking that you could liken this message forum to Seinfeld - sort of a forum about nothing - but still very enjoyable.  Well since I have nothing to share ..... I thought I would infuse a little culture into the discussions with a little seasonal poem.  So here is:

LEAVES DON'T LEAVE ME

by: Reese Bryan (age 6)

Leaves fall from the trees

and the tree gets very bare.

Nobody is aware that the tree is bare.

Leaves fall from the tree.

Leaves fall on the ground.

Leaves go away.

Leaves please don't leave me!

And I can't wait until summer is here again.

Morning all:

Have a great Labor Day week-end, and may God bless (and guide) America.

Donald Chandler

Good Morning, Folks.

I'm with Jim... for me, it doesn't get much better than the ATLANTA BRAVES in a good pennant race and the GEORGIA BULLDOGS battling in the SEC!  A GREAT time of the year for sports fans!  And I know that Connie is a big Bulldog fan too.  I just hope that Mark Richt can find a way to keep those guys out of jail long enough to play on Saturdays... there sure have been a rash of Bulldogs arrested lately.  And, Gary... I'm looking forward to that international showdown between the Tai Pai Personalities and the Hungary Jacks... should be a good game with the winner to face the Peking Toms.  I do plan to watch a lot of baseball and football this weekend, and other than that... maybe just eat, sleep, and gain wieght!  No LABOR if I can avoid it... and No Obama either!  Liz and I have nothing really planned for the weekend except for church Sunday, but we may look around for something interesting to do here in the Metro area.

Looks like great weather here in Georgia for the weekend too!  So, whatever you have planned... be safe out there and have fun.  HAPPY LABOR DAY!

By the way... has anyone heard from Condeleezza Rice lately?

Reporting live from Marietta...  this is Don.

You know, Gary... if Marietta had a professional sports team... we could call it the MARIETTA BIG CHICKENS!  That would really strike fear in the hearts of our opponents!

Yay! Lunch break!! This means I not only make myself a good old 'mater samich, but I have an excuse to sit down and put fingers to keys. (Remember when it was "pen to paper?")

Gary, there's always so much to say to you, and I never can cover all the bases. Just to brush the surface though, I got a hoot out of all the sports teams. Our local high school, where both our boys played several sports, were called the "battling beavers", because we live in Beavercreek, OH, after all. The boys thought that was so hokey when we moved here when they were 12 and 10. Everywhere you looked you saw a big bucktoothed beaver logo. They got used to it though, finally.

Church softball team coming over tonight for a picnic/party. Thankfully the weather has cooled into the low 70s, and it feels great. Still dry as a bone, though.

Sunday will be mine and Dick's 39th anniversary. He's been such a sport. It took us 6 weeks for me to get my feelings hurt. It was the day before the UGA homecoming, and he'd been working like a dog all day at the farm. He came in hot, sweaty, and had pieces of hay stuck all over him. I said, "Let's go to the homecoming parade!". He had the gall to say, "I don't want to. I'm hot and tired". Well, there were tears and gnashing of teeth -- from me, not him. My rose colored glasses fell right off my face, and I thought "who is this stranger I married?" Happily, I got over it, and stuck it out for another 38 really great years.

Don, I may not currently live in GA, but OF COURSE we are fans of all the GA teams. I always especially miss home this time of year, with all the excitement it brings. We will be tuning in as often as we can to look between the hedges.

Jim, Connie, and everyone else, have a safe holiday weekend. When we lift our glasses of cold, sweet tea, we'll toast to you all.

My sandwich is calling, "yoo hoo", so I'm off.

Looking forward to hearing news of babies and ballgames.

Diane

Well Friday afternoon and all is ..... well it is Friday afternoon.  One night at a social gathering we began discussing high school mascots/names.  We all proudly proclaimed the names, Indians, Hawks, Eagles, Lions, etc, except one lady who remained silent.  Turns our her high school mascot was ......  are you ready for this?  The SLUGS!  After everyone regained their composure, we asked her for their fight song but she was laughting too hard to divulge any further high school history.  So see Diane, the beavers wasn't so bad.  Jim, maybe Georgia should consider a name change, from the Bulldawgs to the Outlaws.  I guess this just reveals a problem with athletes at this and higher levels - an invincible complex or one too many blows to the head!  Great runner - always out runs the law!  I wish them well this weekend though all the bookies are calling for a blowout!

No baby YET, but Jennifer said she had a dream that she would be born on the 3rd.  Better hurry - only seven hours left.  Hope everyone has a GREAT weekend.   Later.

09/07/10 09:27 AM #1758

Gary Grice

HAPPY Monday/Tuesday!  No, no baby yet.  However, Jennifer did spend last night at the hospital for monitoring.  Sherron came home Sunday and is making preparations to return at a moment's notice.  I'll continue updates here.

I broke down and signed onto Facebook on Sunday.  Someone sent me an invitation to see their pictures.  So far - I'm not impressed, but see how folks can become addicted.

I'm super happy that Bobby Sparks signed on and updated his profile this weekend.  Good to have you onboard.  I also see that you have an upcoming birthday.  I'll postpone birthday wishes just to keep you coming back.  Jump in and update us here on the forum on what's been going on in your life.  MOST of us here are pretty nice folks.

Well since I get a pay check every couple of weeks, I guess I should get to WORK.  I'm starting to get the Maynard G. Crebbs (Doby Gillis) response to that word.  Hope everyone has a GREAT day and an even better week.  Later.
