I woke up at 4:15 this morning, and should have a lot more to show for it than I do. But, no, all I've done is drink coffee, watch the recorded finale of "Amazing Race", and check email and facebook.  Dick was very loud when he left this morning for the airport, and I must speak to him about that.

Gary, I just wanted to say that I checked your latest photographs on your profile and those grandkids are so cute, and my goodness, you have a brood of them! How wonderful, and you must be so very proud, and rightfully so.

No news. Just saying "good morning". It's cold and snowy here. Schools are on a 2 hour delay. I will stay holed up inside today and that's fine with me. I have enough to do to keep me busy for a long time.

Hope everyone has a good, productive, and healthy week. Jimmy, it was good to hear from you again. When I don't read a post from you, Gary, or Don for a while I get worried. Don, hope all is well with you.

Nora Mill grits are calling for me this morning, so I will go get them started. That's all I need, just a good bowl of grits on a cold Monday morning....

A chilly good day to one and all.  Diane, do they sell grits up there or do you have to have them shipped in?  They make a WONDERFUL meal on a cold morning.  I usually have a slice of heavily buttered toast and a couple of strips of bacon.

Yeah, we need more participation here on this board.  I get tired of reading my stuff!  Anywho, I had another busy weekend.  Friday night we had our SS Christmas party.  A good time was had by all.  Saturday AM I wrapped Christmas presents before the arrival of #'s 5 and 6 grandkids.  Little Julianna is just learning to walk and is sooooo cute.  They left about 4:00 - just in time to dress for my triple date to hear the Athens Symphony's Christmas concert.  One of my dates was 91, one was 87 and Sherron who is considerably younger.  Bed felt soooo good when my head hit the pillow about 11:30.  Sunday - up and atem'.  Choir presented their annnual Christmas program at 8:30 and then SS following.  Home for a quick nap before Staff Parish Relations get together at 2:00.  It was held at the outgoing chairman's home which was originally built in the 1800's.  When he retired about 3 years ago, he remodeled and kept the old farm house charm while adding the modern conveniences we all appreciate.  Its is located in Greshemville.  Sort of between Greensboro and Madison.  One of those little communities you have to be going to.  Afterwards, Sherron and I took a ride through Madison just to look at the lights.  A good nights sleep and greeted Monday with a doctor's appointment.  Clean bill of health and off to work I go!!!!

Yes, Diane, I am a little proud of all my grandkids.  Anyone who hasn't already, pop over to my profile and check out my latest photo.  And I really appreciate Window Live Photo Gallery.  Trying to get a bunch of kids to smile all at once is like trying to herd cats.   The new WLPG has a utility called Fusing which lets you replace faces when the surrounds generally line up.  A lot easier than PhotoShop and a whole lot cheaper.

It was with deep sorry that I read the following obit.  I guess when you're done, you're done.  Later.

Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment community. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71. Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The grave site was piled high with flours. Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and described Doughboy lovingly as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, he was still a crusty old man and was considered a roll model for millions.

Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, two children, John Dough and Jane Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He also is survived by his elderly dad, Pop Tart. The funeral was held at 350 for about 20 minutes.

 Three things---

1. They cancelled school today instead of just delaying. Wind chills are killer.

2. Yes, Gary, they sell grits up here. However, the Nora Mill ones that I referred to were a gift from Gail,      Connie, Nancy, Teresa, Kathy, and Judy. I enjoyed them this morning, too!

3. So sorry to hear about my friend, the Pillsbury Dough Boy, Gary. I enjoyed many a meal with him.

What do you do when you are snowed in? Well, I took every thing out of my basement storage closet and am now staring at it, hoping it will organize itself and put itself back. I will let you know how it turns out.

Gary Grice

I was wondering why we haven't heard from some folks lately so I did some internet searches.  Here's why we haven't heard from Dennis.  HEY BUBBA, WATCH THIS!

And then I found this picture of Don at a Christmas Party a few years back.  He's probably been busy looking for that outfit.

We all know how much Jim likes to hunt.  I found this childhood picture of him.  He's probably up to the same scheme so Santa will bring him lots of loot.

As I find MORE pictures of classmates we haven't heard from for a while, I'll post.  Hope you are all staying warm.  And Diane, good luck with the closet - my enthusiasm on a cold snowy day peaks at walking to the kitchen for another cup of coffee or hot chocolate.  Later.

That's ok Gary! You see who's #1 don't you? Besides, it's

so cold here this morning the cows are refusing to come into

the barn to be milked.  Because of the milkers COLD HANDS!

14 degrees, MAN IT'S COLD!!!

Boy you said it Jim.  It is COLD!  I had to break ice to take my bath this morning.

Ya'll keep warm out there.  In the mean time, here's a little story that hopefully will give you a chuckle.  Later.

Two Florida rednecks are out hunting, and as they are  walking along they come upon a huge hole in the ground. They approach it and are amazed by the size of it.  The  first hunter says, “Wow, that’s some hole; I can’t even see the bottom.  I wonder how deep it is?”

The second hunter says,”I don’t know, let’s throw something down and listen and see how long it takes to hit bottom.”

The first hunter says, “There’s this old automobile transmission here, give me a hand and we’ll throw it in and see”.

So they pick it up and carry it over, and count one, and two and three, and throw it in the hole.  They are  standing there listening and looking over the edge and they hear a rustling in the brush behind them.   As they turn around they see a goat come crashing through the brush, run up to the hole and with no hesitation, jump in head  first.

While they are standing there looking at each other, looking in the hole and trying to figure out what that was all about, an old farmer walks up. “Say there,” says the farmer, “you fellers didn’t happen to see my goat around here anywhere, did you?”

The  first hunter says, “Funny you should ask, but we were just standing here a minute ago and a goat came running out of the bushes doin’ about a hunert miles an hour and jumped headfirst into this hole here!”

The old farmer said, “That’s impossible….  …I had him chained to an old transmission!”

Fabulous photo, Gary, and I love your free spirited nature. However, I think you'd look after a little session in the tanning booth.

11 degrees, and I'm heading out. But not to break a hole in the pond.

THAT'S GOOD GARY, BUT I HEARD THE BEST DESCRIPTION OF HOW

COLD IT IS A FEW MINUTES AGO. THIS LADY CAME INTO THE OFFICE

AND SAID "IT WAS COLDER THAN SETTING ON A TIN TOILET SEAT ON

THE SHADY SIDE OF A GLAZIER AT THE NORTH POLE!" NOW BROTHER

YOU KNOW THAT IS COLD!!! I FELL OUT!

If this is FALL, what does winter have in store for the sunny south?  It was 13 degrees on our back porch thermometer here in Marietta this morning.  YIKES!  By the way, Jim... you mentioned cows... I have some fond memories of growing up, but milking cows on mornings like this was not one of them.  And they had to be milked no matter how cold it was... and the dairy barn was NOT heated.  And Gary, even down on the farm, I never took baths outdoors... I was afraid I might scare someone.

Well, I have recovered from my cold, but Liz just got worse.  I took her to the doctor Thursday and she has an Upper Respiratory Infection.  We had made plans to go to Augusta for the weekend for a wedding (a cousin in my family) but had to call off the trip.  Kinda of a quiet weekend here... I went to church Sunday without Liz and then watched the Falcons win another game Sunday afternoon.  I guess I may be the only Falcons fan here on the forum so I won't bore you with the details.  But that and the Hot Stove League is about all there is to satisfy my sports appetite right now.

Looks like you had a busy weekend, Gary.  BTW, I saw some pictures from your Sunday School Class Christmas Party posted on Facebook.  Good photos of you and Sherron... and "bald headed George".  :-)

Diane... I'm glad you had good reports from your medical tests.  Stay warm up there on the north side.  Hope you are staying warm too Connie here on the south side.

Well... I may be going to a Christmas Dinner tonight, without Liz... so I guess I had better get back to looking for that Christmas outfit of mine.  I didn't know Gary had pictures of it... gives a whole new meaning to "Don we now our gay apparel!"  Fa la la la la... la la la la.  LOL!

Reporting live from the frozen tundra of mmmmmmmMarietta... this is Dancin' Don.

By the way, Gary... you had a picture of me and Dennis and Jim and you... where are the photos of Diane and Connie?

Hi Classmates,

I'm certain ya'll are shocked to hear from me since it has been so long since I have even checked in. I had surgery on my left hand in October and i have just plain out gotten lazy and fallen behind in keeping up with everyone. I'm not even sending Christmas cards this year and I don't think I have ever failed to do that.

I have some issues with depression, especially in fall/winter months and this season seems worse, but my doctor told me to simplify, simplify, simplify. So, that's just what I am doing.

I just want to wish you all a wonderful Christmas with your families, friends and those you love. Enjoy precious times together and don't worry about all the "stuff" that none of us need more of.

Make some great memories with those you love.and just be thankful for all the blessings we receive each day from our Great God.

Hoping you all have good health in the new year. Love to each of you.

Hey Kathy!  So happy you are back.  Hopefully we will get more participants and all work on eliminating the winter blahs together.  Don, you are so correct.  In the name of fairness, I did find a picture of one of the ladies of our class on the way to get a pedicure, and not a moment too soon.  Now in an effort to preserve life and limb (mine), I cannot disclose the name of individual whose feet are pictured below, but she knows who she is.

Must say the pedicure came out GREAT as here is the after picture:

Hope everyone is having a GREAT week.  Later.

Kathy, I totally agree with you about not sending out Christmas Cards this year, however, this year we will be sending the picture of us with the grandkids recently added to my profile. A few years back we sent the below photo - much to the embarassment of my girls.

Its always fun to see how people have changed during the year. While you recoupe here's some headlines that I hope bring you a chuckle and brighten your day.  Later.

* "Public Inquiry To Be Launched Into Avalanche" -- A front page headline in the National Post.

* "Youth Hit By Train Is Rushed To Two Hospitals" -- In a local paper.

* "Holy Mother Crushes Sacred Infant" -- In a Catholic newspaper, referring to a basketball game between two Catholic High Schools.

* "Women Look Good" -- In a Canadian newspaper, referring to the women's curling team during the 1998 Winter Olympics.

* "Joint Committee Investigates Marijuana Use" -- A local newspaper of a suburb of Toronto, describing a committee set up by the board of education and the local municipality to investigate marijuana use among high school students.

Kathy, yes, it was good to hear from you. This time of year can be a struggle. Glad you are feeling better, and hope your Christmas is wonderful.

OK, who took the picture of my toe nails! I must say they do draw a lot of attention.

I hate to divulge Connie's news, but I think she is busy, so I'm gonna spill the beans. She has a brand new little baby granddaughter, born yesterday to her son Trent and wife Laura. Her name is Eden, which is such a pretty name, and I imagine her big brother will have some adjusting to do. I am betting Connie is baby sitting and probably too busy to sign on here. I sure hope you won't mind, Connie, that I have blabbed your happy news. It's a wonderful Christmas blessing.

Stay warm, y'all. I know it's really, really cold there. It was 1 degree here this morning and we expect a few more inched of snow during the night.

Hi Gary, I don't know where you find all thes things you put on the ste, but they are indeed hilarious. Thanks for the laughs. I should have been in bed long ago, so that's where I'm headed now.God has blessed you with a lovely family.

I know that Connie is busy w/her new little one. What a wonderful gift at this time of year!

Love to you all and hope Santa is good to each of you.

CONGRATULATIONS Connie!!!  Ain't it wonderful!  You MUST post some pictures.

Diane, your secret was safe with me.  Kathy if I told where I get all of these jokes and pictures, there would be no need in anyone visiting our site.  So everyone keep coming back to see what I can find.

And last but not least - HAPPY BIRTHDAY Beverly!  May this day be filled with wonderful blessings and may you be surrounded with many loving friends and family to help you celebrate.

Now I must do some research to see what everyone else has been up to!  Later.

Beverly, have a Happy, Happy Birthday! You are such a sweet person and you deserve a very, very sweet birthday!

I won't be showing my toenails today. It started snowing about 3 AM and isn't supposed to stop until about 2 this afternoon. I have to get to the post office later, and to a doctor's appt., but as long as it's not ice I'm good to go.

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone.

12/16/10 03:27 PM #1928

Donald Chandler

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BEVERLY!

And hope you are all staying warm and safe out there.  Last night was a nightmare here in Metro Atlanta.  When the freezing rain, sleet, and snow came in yesterday afternoon it immediately formed ice on the ground and streets.  With two nights previously of temps in the low teens, the ground was already frozen.  So the city was like a skating rink and it was "bumper cars" all over.  Liz and I were safe here at home.  I had planned to go to church last night without her, but I changed my mind (a man's prerogative?) and decided to stay home... and then church was cancelled less than an hour before starting time.  I don't mind snow, but I do NOT play around with ice.  Brrrrrr!  BTW... I do not own, nor have I ever owned in my life... a pair of longjohns.

Say, do any of you ever go to book signings?  I love books and have been to a few book signings through the years.  I just heard this morning that President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush were both here in Atlanta today signing each of their new books at Borders Bookstore in Buckhead.  I think I would have been there IF... I had heard about it in time and IF the weather had been better.  But I understand that they announced it Tuesday, and those that wanted books signed had to buy the books and stand in line for hours YESTERDAY in cold weather to get a wrist band that would allow them to stand in line for hours again TODAY to get their books signed.  Thousands of people waited in the first line yesterday and not all got wrist bands and the "privilege" of waiting in line again.  That would be a tough one... I don't think I could do it.  I love President Bush and Laura too but there are limits...

Hope you all have a good weekend coming up.  Our church Christmas Musical is coming up Sunday, and I will be taking photos.  Liz had been practicing so she could sing with the choir, but her Upper Respiratory Infection, along with a very sore throat has caused her to cancel.  She is VERY disappointed.

Congratulations, Grandma Connie on the new little one in the family.  Hope that the baby and the family and YOU are all doing well.

Great to hear from you again Kathy.  I will be praying for your health issues.  Enjoy Christmas!

So, Diane... have you built a snowman yet?

Jim, yes I do get paid, but remember - they also serve who only sit and wait!  Don I read about the Bush book signing.  You left out the required security screenings.  I'll bet that was a mess.  I did attend a book signing once - Norm Abrums (This Old House/New Yankee Workshop).  Too many people waiting in line for me to wait.  Diane, a little word of advice as you build that snowman, don't eat the yellow snow!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, I'm looking forward to doing (almost) nothing but resting up for the onslaught that will occur next weekend.  Jim, I know these temps have kept you off the links and maybe for your own safety.  Here's a little story for your enjoyment.  Later.

A golfer hit his drive on the first hole, 300 yards right down the middle. When it came down, however, it hit a sprinkler and the ball went sideways into the woods. He was angry, but he went into the woods and hit a very hard 2 iron which hit a tree and bounced back straight at him. It hit him in the temple and killed him.

He was at the Pearly Gates and St. Peter looked at the big book and said, “I see you were a golfer, is that correct?”

“Yes, I am,” he replied.

St. Peter then said, “Do you hit the ball a long way?”

The golfer replied, “You bet. After all, I got here in 2, didn’t I?”

Hello friends:

Diane, I am glad you shared my happy news, and I appreciate all the good wishes and prayers.  Eden Lily was born on Tuesday, 12/14/10.  I spent several days in Canton, then last night in Bethlehem.   Sure miss those little ones already, (but am tired).     Eden is a sweet, beautiful little girl ---  a sweet blessing from God, and how I thank him!

Guess I had better go get some things unpacked and washed.   Just had to come check in and catch up on y'all.

Well another beautiful Monday here in the Classic City!  I trust you all had a great weekend - I did!  Got my truck back from the body shop and it looks great.  If any of you have need of paint and body work (for your vehicle), I can recommend a GOOD man.  My daughters have been after me to get a texting device so we can communicate.  Well I'll take it any way I can get it so I got one of them smart phones.  One of the dumber things I ever did but it is what it is.  At least I now "hear" from them several times a day so it is worth it.  Still not sure I know how to turn it on and off correctly.  Any who, I was looking for assistance on the internet (Al Gore's greatest creation) and I came across this list of STC's (Senior Texting Codes).  Thought they might be useful for all of us as we get overtaken by technology.  Congratulations again Connie - where's the pictures?  I've got the cutest one of my little Lyla I've got to post.  Come on all you PROUD PAPA's and GRANDMA's out there, let's see them young'uns!!!!  Hope you all have a great week.  Later.
