Huh.  Kind of quite around here.  Hope everyone is well and not having a week like me.  As threatened, here's what I've been up to.  Monday afternoon had an appointment with my Pulmonologist.  He has come to the conclusion that this cough I've had for at least six month is gastro induced, so he scheduled me for an upper GI on Wednesday and appointment with gastroenterologist on Thursday.  Tuesday, Sherron and I went to Gainesville where I had my bi-monthly infusion and she had lunch with an aunt and her daughter-in-law.  After I completed sucking chemicals, we went to her cousin's home in Dahlonega and out to dinner in downtown Dahlonega.  After dinner we took her aunt home in Cleveland and had a short visit with her husband before returning to beautiful downtown Watkinsville.  Wednesday morning brought another round of testing and a really bad milkshake.  I asked for coffee flavored but no such luck.  I bought a new computer some months back and decided to give my old one to my neighbor whose been having some problems with his.  So first thing Thursday morning I delivered my old PC to his house and began the migration from his old one while I awaited the arrival of an insurance adjustor to look at my roof.  Both projects completed in time for a quick lunch before heading off to gastro appointment.  Of course he wants to do more testing, so Monday morning I get to visit Connie at St. Mary's for a short nap while he takes a look see at my stomach and implants a transmitter (something new) for follow up monitoring.  When I got home, I was informed that my grand-daughter was very upset that we would not be attending her birthday party on Saturday in Hickory, N.C.  Anyone care to guess what I will be doing this weekend?  Ah, if you guessed going to Hickory, you would be correct.  Can't dissappoint my little princess.  Julianna (grandchild #6) had chickenpox vaccination on Tuesday and because of the medications I'm on, I can't be around her for two weeks.  We didn't have Thanksgiving plans but this eliminates getting together with that daughter's family.  So that's what I've been up to.  I hope from you all soon and that you will have a BLESSED weekend.  Later.

Gary, sorry about all those medical procedures, buddy. I'll say a prayer that all will go well. We think you're tops, and we want your health to match up with our opinion of you. That goes for the rest of my buddies out there, too.

Have a safe trip to Hickory and back. Enjoy the birthday celebration. I think it's pretty great that you can go.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody. We'll be roaming around NE Georgia next week visiting family. Wish we could be with our kids, but that will have to wait 'till Christmas.

Again, may your Thanksgiving be just that---a time of giving thanks.

With love....gobble, gobble.

Greeting and salutations from the beautiful downtown Classic City.  Too quiet everywhere today.  I had a great weekend!  We surprised our grand daughter for her 7th birthday.  After a little party with cousins and brother, we went to dinner at Sims Bar-B-Que.  My middle daughter and family went to a party there Friday night, otherwise we would have never hear of or found it.  Its about 10 - 12 miles north of Hickory, NC and about 1/2 mile down a dirt/gravel road in what looks like a barn that has seen better days.  Its an all you can eat buffet with chicken, pork and beef BBQ.  They are only open Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 - 9.  About 7:30 a band gathers on the stage and everyone who isn't seated at that end of the barn takes a place in the bleachers or up in the loft of the barn for a little pickin' and grinnin' as they are joined by individuals or group cloggers.  Someone who I took to be Mr. Sims, took a seat on a bench in front of the stage and played the spoons.  Occasionally he would get up and attempt a little cloggin' too.  His movements were limited and guarded but not bad for a man in his 80's or 90's I'd guess.  A GOOD time was had by all.  Yesterday I had a short nap while the doctor had a look see down my gullet and implanted a little transmitter that measures my pH level.  I have to wear this little data recorder for a couple of days and in a few more days the transmitter will go the way of everything else that I put in my mouth.  Ain't science wonderful?!?  Thank you Diane for your thought and prayers.  I hope you and Dick have a great sojourn into Georgia.  I too wish you all a VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING.  May your days be overflowing with food, fun, fellowship and friends.  Later.

Hello friends:

I sure hope you had a good Thanksgiving week-end.    I enjoyed having children and grandchildren visit, the Dawgs beat Tech and the Falcons won today!

2 weeks ago, I had 3 first cousins die in 5 days...  A hard, "emotional" week for the Morgan family.   There were health issues with all 3, but the deaths were a bit unexpected.

You all take care.

Happy (cyber) Monday everyone!   I've been busier than a one legged man at a butt kicking contest.  (Will try to talk more about me later).  Connie, I'm so sorry to hear about your losses.  I know its tough to lose anyone but three just compounds the emotions.  I hope everyone else had a good Thanksgiving.  I learned this weekend that Tessie's mother fell and broke her hip on Wednesday and had surgery on Thanksgiving Day.  Not what she was expecting I know.   Later.

OLD ALPHABET

A is for apple, and B is for boat,
That used to be right, but now it won’t float!
Age before beauty is what we once said,
But let’s be a bit more realistic instead.

NEW ALPHABET

A is for arthritis
B is for the bad back
C is for chest pains, perhaps cardiac?

D is for dental decay and decline
E is for eyesight, can’t read that top line!
F is for fissures and fluid retention
G is for gas which I’d rather not mention.

H is high blood pressure–I’ d rather it be low,
I is for incisions with scars you can show.
J is for joints, out of socket, won’t mend,
K is for knees that crack when they bend.

L is for libido, what happened to sex?
M is for memory, I forget what comes next.
N is neuralgia,in nerves way down low,
O is for osteo, the bones that don’t grow!

P is for prescriptions, I have quite a few,
just give me a pill and I’ll be good as new!
Q is for queasy, is it fatal or flu?
R is for reflux, one meal turns to two.

S is for sleepless nights, counting my fears,
T is for Tinnitus; there’s bells in my ears!
U is for urinary; big troubles with flow,
V is for vertigo, that’s ‘dizzy,’ you know.

W is for worry, NOW what’s going’round?
X is for X- ray, and what might be found.
Y is another year I’m left here behind,
Z is for zest that I still have — in my mind.

Later.

Gary, that alphabet is not for those who are depressed! Fortunately I read it on a day when I wasn't experiencing too many of those ailments. It is really funny, and getting truer by the day.

No news. Just thought my friends down south would like to know it's snowing here, and not expected to get out of the 30s for the next several days. December has arrived! So when y'all start getting the shivers when it's a cold 45 degrees or something, remember your old pal in Ohio. One thing though, it sure looks Christmasy. It's not supposed to accumulate much, but we are definitely getting a good dusting.

Love to all. Nancy, are you officially retired now? Thinking of you.

Diane - IT'S FREEZING DOWN HERE!!!!

I thought you all would like to see my latest invention.  It helps me get around the farm - expecially useful after last night's rain storm.  I call it my ATW (All Terrain Walker) or Johnny Walker Red.  Notice the waders.  That's because this story is really deep and full of ..... The helmet is to keep the tomatos from hitting me in the head.  The brightly colored shirt keeps me from being shot - unfortunately can be dangerous if the bull happens to be loose in the pasture.  Nothing new except a new mayor here in the Classic City.  Runoff elections yesterday came and went with the weather beating out all election returns as the lead story.  Happy Hanukkah to all so inclined.  Got to hurry home an light the Menorah.  Trust you all are having a great week.  Later.

Gary, it's 27 degrees here right now, so I sure hope you are warmer than that. Sounds like soup weather for all of us!

Oh, and thanks for giving me the perfect gift idea for Dick! He is so hard to buy for. Can that thing be bought online? If if you like it, then I am sure he will too.

I had a nice suprise tonight...   David and Linda Landers called.  They asked how everyone was doing and sent love to all.    David had to have a stent again last March, so had to retire from truck driving.     They were asking about addresses, so I will send them a copy of the list I have.   That reminded me - Gary, were there any updates on the list??     Also, does anyone know Tessie Stevens new address (I remember that someone said she had moved to Athens).

I hope that all of you are having a good week and staying warm!

I came across this posting and thought it was worth sharing.  I hope everyone has a great weekend.  Later.

********************

Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven’t thought about it, don’t have it on their schedule, didn’t know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine.

I got to thinking one day about all those people on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I’ve tried to be a little more flexible.

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched ‘Jeopardy’ on television?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said , ‘How about going to lunch in a half hour?’ She would gas up and stammer, ‘I can’t. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain’ And my personal favorite: ‘It’s Monday.’ She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together.

Because Americans cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches.. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!

We’ll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve toilet-trained. We’ll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet. We’ll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of ‘I’m going to,’ ‘I plan on,’ and ‘Someday, when things are settled down a bit.’

When anyone calls my ‘seize the moment’ friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you’re ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Rollerblades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It’s just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy.

Now…go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to…not something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting?

Brrrrrrrr ----  it's cold out there!   Diane, how's a sweet southern girl like you adjusted to that Ohio weather??    I put on my jersey sheets and electric blanket today.

Gary, now it's my turn to play the waiting game.  My daughter-in-law is scheduled for a C-section on 12/14/10.  I'd appreciate it if y'all would remember her and the baby in your prayers.

Also Gary, I especially enjoyed the ABCs and your post on 12/3.  Wondered if you have an updated class list of addresses and numbers that you could e-mail sometime?

Don, you are very quiet there in Marietta.  How's everything with you?

Any deer this year Jim?  You haven't mentioned your hunting.

Everyone have a good week!

Good Monday Morning, Mates… from Marietta.  Hope you are all enjoying the holiday season.

Connie, it is indeed time to get out those flannel sheets!... winter weather is here, a little early.  Keep us posted on the new baby in the family… we will keep you in our prayers.

Liz and I had a great Thanksgiving!  We drove over to Nicholson, Georgia to spend Thanksgiving Day with my niece, Wynonna Diane Chandler (my late sister Helen’s daughter) and her family.  Diane has three children by her ex husband William Dana Chandler… they are Wynonna Deenene Chandler (UGA student), Whitney Dakota Chandler and Wyatt Dalton Chandler (Jackson County High School students)… all great kids!  You will notice that every member of the family is a “W.D.”.  I told Diane that if she had another child, she could have named it Winn Dixie.   Anyway, we all had a great Thanksgiving with ham and turkey and dressing with all the trimmings.

Liz got a bit of a cold at Thanksgiving and being the generous person she is… she gave it to me.  So I was under the weather last week.  I seldom get sick, and I guess that Kroger flu shot I got a couple of months ago did not help.  Maybe Gary was right.  But Liz and I were back on our feet for a busy holiday weekend.  We had our annual Children’s Christmas Musical at church Sunday and I took photos.  And that was followed by photos for our Church Christmas Outreach to one of the low income housing projects here in Marietta with toys, clothing, and food.  Last night was our Annual Sunday School Class Christmas Dinner, so now Liz and I need a rest.  It is amazing how busy things get this time of year.  We also worked in our annual viewing of the “Polar Express” this weekend too.  Do any of you have any favortie Christmas movies?

For you sports fans out there, I was very happy to see the Dawgs beat Tech… even if the game was not very pretty.  A 6 and 6 season was not what I had hoped for, but at least we have a bowl game to look forward to… even if it is the Liberty Bowl in Memphis against the University of Central Florida.  Maybe next year will be better if we can find some guys that can play defense.  We need Erk Russell’s Junkyard Dawgs again!  I know college football is king here in Georgia and the South, but we do have a pretty good pro team here in Atlanta, with the best record in pro football right now at 10-2… GO FALCONS!  It sure would be fun to see them in the Super Bowl in January!  With winter coming on, I’m not much of a basketball or hockey fan, so it’s a long way to Spring Training and the Boys of Summer.

Well tomorrow is an important day to remember… Pearl Harbor Day!  And, oh yes… someone is celebrating a birthday… my niece Diane will be 46.  And BTW… a HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JIM too.  Hope you have a great day, Jim, hunting or golfing, or just doing nothing.

Gary… that barbecue place you visited up in North Carolina out in the middle of nowhere sounds like just my kind of place.  And by the way I’m addicted to “Pawn Stars”and it is all your fault… it has become one of my favorite shows!

And Diane (cousin and Class of ’68)… hope you and Dick are staying warm up there near the North Pole.  How deep is the snow today?

Reporting live from “quiet” and very cold Marietta… this is Don.

PS:  For you busy shoppers out there... enjoy this...

Greetings and salutations from the VERY COLD Classic City.  Connie, I don't know what happened to the update list we passed around.  I remember seeing it and there not being much on it.  But that being said - sorry, I don't have any updated info to offer.  If you need a new listing I will be happy to send.  Congratulations on the pending new grandchild.  I trust all will go well with the C-section.

As I previously posted, I was unable to really enjoy all of my grands over Thanksgiving due to their vaccinations so I tried to make up for lost time this weekend.  We took all seven to the parade in beautiful downtown Watkinsville Saturday morning.  Lyla (newest) and Julianna (just turned one) slept through most of action but the other five!!!!! The three oldest knew exactly what to do when the candy was tossed out.  Now Addie and Jackson had to learn and soon caught on - grab and stash!  Jackson (will be three later this month) decided to try something new.  When the people on the floats tossed out candy, he would run out, pick it up, and throw it back at them!  Everyone around us though that was hilarious.  This lady picked up some that had landed at her feet and tossed it to Jackson - yep, he threw it back.  So he and this stranger spent five minutes throwing candy at each other.  They were all well behave and the only problem we had was when Jackson couldn't understand why he couldn't go for a ride the horses. After the parade we returned home and had lunch.  Then it was time for Lyla and Papa to take a nap.  I spent a couple of hours reclining and holding her as she snoozed on my chest.  One of my favorite things.  Then Mcginnis (the oldest at eight) wanted to play Wii.   Have you ever tried to play Wii tennis, bowling, baseball and golf while reclining and holding a sleeping baby - with a very active 8 year old?  He normally beats me anyway but as our Presidents says - it was a shellacking!  Really hated to see them leave but God knew what he was doing by only giving children to the young.  Papa and Prescious were slap worn out.

Last night we wrapped up our weekend by serving communion at Lanier Gardens (Assisted Living/Retirement Home).  We had seven little ladies in attendance.  They were all "up in age" but one was proud to announce that she was the oldest - 94!!! .... and then I had to come back to work.  "And that's the way it is."

I would like to put in my early HAPPY BIRTHDAY wishes as well to Jim.  May you live long and prosper.  Later.

Hi from wintry Ohio. Yes, it's a cold one here. We don't have too  much snow, maybe 3 inches, but it's pretty. It's about 20 degrees now, with 13 expected in the morning.

Don, it was good to hear from you and Liz, and hear that those nasty colds are behind you. Or at least I hope so. You need to be sniffle free to enjoy all that goes on this time of year.

Gary, you always turn any routine outing into an adventure, so I never know what to expect from your postings. But I love reading every single one from every single person, no matter if there's much to say or not.

Connie, thanks for catching us up with David Landers. It's been over 2 years since that great and fun reunion, and lots can happen in two years. It's good to hear that David's heart is better. Modern medicine is not perfect, but is sure can do some wonderful things for us.

I started Monday off by having a colonoscopy and a endoscopy. There was a time about 45 years ago that I would have blushed at the thought of any of you even imagining my colon. But 45 years also takes away a lot of pride, so now you are not only free to imagine my colon, but I will confess to you that it's pictures turned out lovely. My esophagus though is ulcerated due to acid reflux. Isn't that a revolting, unfeminine sounding ailment? Anyway, I go back in 2 months and have another endoscopy to see how much better it is. I'm sure it will be just as pretty as my colon. Another thing about getting older is that you get to learn how to spell a lot of new, big words.

Well, Dick stayed home a whole extra day just so he could be my designated driver. I really need to visit with him. I am sure if he knew I was writing he'd say "tell 'em 'hi'". He's packing, so I think I'll go annoy him awhile.

Love to all from the state that's round on both ends and hi in the middle.

"A day that will live in infamy"!  Not just because its Jim's birthday, today is Pearl Harbor Day.  It is amazing to me how the attitudes toward freedom have changed over the past 70 years.  Japan awakened a sleeping giant so many years ago and caused a nation to commit every resource and many soles to eliminating a threat to world peace.  Today, being politically correct has replaced common sense and created an atmosphere that will ultimately bring down that giant.

Diane, I would say bless your heart, however, that sounds like the only thing that's working!!!  Its a good thing that Dick hung around to be your designated driver.  Following my endoscopy a few weeks ago I ended up with some blanks in my memory, which is partially a good thing, but I don't even remember getting dressed or the ride home.  Better living through chemistry, I guess.  I hope they can resolve your issues.  That has to be painful.

Here's a little joke to hopefully take our minds off our problems.  Enjoy.  Later.

*********

A woman awoke during the night to find that her husband was not in bed. She put on her robe and went downstairs. He was sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in front of him. He appeared to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall.

She saw him wipe a tear from his eye and take a sip of his coffee.

"What's the matter dear? Why are you down here at this time of night?" she asked.

"Do you remember twenty years ago when we were dating and you were only 16?" he asked.

"Yes, I do," she replied.

"Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car?"

"Yes, I remember."

"Do you remember when he shoved that shotgun in my face and said, 'Either you marry my daughter or spend twenty years in jail'?"

"Yes, I do," she said.

He wiped another tear from his cheek and said, " You know, I would have gotten out today. "

Gary, just wanted to set the record straight about my esophagus. It does not hurt except when I swallow certain foods. Strangely enough all of the fattening, smooth things like cheesecake go down pain free! Really, it sounds worse than it is, and I'm sure it will get all better.

Didn't want anyone to think I was up here suffering from anything except frostbite.
