Soooo glad a good time was had yesterday, not that I am surprised at all. Janie, I am very glad you made it, because that tells me you are feeling well, which makes me very, very glad.

I know hugs were plentiful, and had we been there there would have been even more, hugger that I am.

We were with you in our thoughts. It just wasn't in the cards for us this time, a terrible result of being geographically handicapped.

I've seen lots of pictures of the class of '70's reunion this past Sat. Seems they, too, had a great time. It's always fun trying to recognize people. I scored better than Dick.

Have a good week, dear chums.

Greetings!  Thanks for the recipe Charles.  I hope you will come  back and post more often.  Sunday we spent a lot of time looking back.  We've posted lists of things that didn't exist when we were born.  I remember old Popular Science and Popular Mechanic's magazine covers that depicted predictions of what the future held in store.  Remember the video phone?  Who would want one of those things?  And go to the moon?!?!  Technology is moving so quickly, I often wonder what the future will bring and will I still be here?  I came across this article that some of you may find interesting.  Maybe it should be entitled, "When I turn 100!".  Enjoy.  Later.

Technology and Gadget Predictions for 2050!

DAWG-gone-it!  I almost cussed again!  It was a good game, Jim... but it still does not feel good to come out on the short end.. especially to Florida.

Jim, I hope you have recovered from your back problems.  And my apologies to all that Liz and I were not able to be at the gathering at Connie's house.  I took Liz to Emory Spine Center last week for an MRI on her back and the surgeon told us that another back surgery (which would be her 4th) would be "VERY, VERY HIGH RISK" for paralysis, infection, and nerve damage.  We have ruled out the surgery for now and have elected to pursue other treatments... pain management, etc.  Sounds like you all had a great time at Connie's... did anyone take photos?

Say, mates... I've heard a political rumor:  In order to have a more orderly election this year, they have asked all Conservatives, Republicans, Tea-Partiers, and Law-Abiding Citizens to vote TOMORROW (Tuesday)... and all Liberals, Democrats, Socialists, and Illegal Immmigrants have been asked to go to the polls to vote on WEDNESDAY.  Works for me...

Speaking of politics... Yesterday, the last Sunday before the election, we had two more candidates in our church service.  Both were members of our congregation, and both were running for State Court Judge... against each other!  Ain't politics fun!!?

Be careful texting, Gary...

Happy (?) Election Day!  A beautiful BRISK day here in the Classic City.  I know everyone is glued to their favorite source of election returns today, but what will you do tomorrow?  With that in mind, I would like to provide you several points to ponder less your mind go idle - for an idle mind is the devil's workshop.

  • I used to eat a lot of natural foods until I learned that most people die of natural causes.
  • There are two kinds of pedestrians: the quick and the dead.
  • Life is sexually transmitted.
  • Healthy is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.
  • The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.
  • Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
  • Have you noticed since everyone has a camcorder these days no one talks about seeing UFOs like they used to?
  • Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again.
  • All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
  • In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird.  Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal..
  • How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?
  • Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, 'I think I'll squeeze these dangly things and drink whatever comes out?'
  • If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a song about him?
  • Why does your OB-GYN leave the room when you get undressed if they are going to look up there anyway?
  • If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?
  • If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, then what is baby oil made from?
  • Do illiterate people get the full effect of Alphabet Soup?
  • Does pushing the elevator button more than once make it arrive faster?
  • Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle?

And one last political one, Why are U. S. citizens called "enemies" by President Barack Obama with whom he is "at war" and individuals from other countries that would try to kill U. S. citizens "radicals" confronted in an "overseas contingency operation"?

Just some thoughts to ponder, by a PROUD Presidential enemy!  Later.

GOOD MORNING MATES!

AND IT IS A VERY GOOD MORNING. IT APPEARS THE GOD LORD HAS

PLACED A FEW ROAD BLOCKS BEFORE THOSE IDIOTS IN WASHINGTON

THAT HAVE IGNORED US. I ALSO WISH TO EXPRESS MY THANKS TO

DICK AND DIANE FOR PULLING OHIO AWAY FROM THE DEATH GRIP

THAT THE DEMS HAD ON THAT GREAT STATE. ONLY A TRUE SOUTHERN

LADY AND GENTLEMAN COULD HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THAT! YOU

KNOW WE WERE SO NEAR THE EDGE THAT A MILD BREEZE COULD

HAVE PUSHED US OVER. IT TRULY RENEWS A PERSON FAITH IN THE

PEOPLE OF THIS GREAT COUNTRY.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK FOLKS!

THANKS

JIM

Glad we could be of assistance, Jimmy. Actually there are many southerners up here, and we live in a huge military community, both active duty and retired. They, along with all the other good folks who have seen things unraveling over the past couple of years exercised their right to be heard through the ballot box.

Hope all are well. I stayed up 'till 2 AM, partly because I am stupid, and partly because I found all the political commentary so interesting. Was hard to get up this morning in the dark. I've already fixed 20 lbs. of meat for sloppy joes tonight, so although the house is a mess, at least it smells good.

Must run out for the second time today and take care of some "bidness", so will go.

Gary, Don, Jim, Connie, Kathy, and all you other occasional and/or secret posters, I love 'ya. Oh, thanks Charles (or Elaine) for the recipe. It sounds yummmy! I have a similar one I use that has been dubbed "Dixie Caviar". Anything with blackeyed peas has got to be good!

And a VERY HAPPY post election day!  I hope a lot of lessons have been learned.  Too many individuals think that an election is a selection for coronation when in fact it is an entrusting of servitude.  May God Bless America!  If you haven't guessed by now, I love a story with a lesson, like the following.  Enjoy.  Later.

**************

An old prospector shuffled into town leading an old tired mule.

The old man headed straight for the only saloon to clear his parched throat.

He walked up and tied his old mule to the hitch rail.  As he stood there, brushing some of the dust from his face and clothes, a young gunslinger stepped out of the saloon with a gun in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other.

The young gunslinger looked at the old man and laughed, saying, “Hey old man, have you ever danced?”

The old man looked up at the gunslinger and said, “No, I never did dance… Never really wanted to.”

A crowd had gathered as the gunslinger grinned and said,  “Well, you old fool, you’re gonna dance now,” and started shooting at the old man’s feet.

The old prospector –not wanting to get a toe blown off– started hopping around like a flea on a hot skillet.  Everybody was laughing, fit to be tied.

When his last bullet had been fired, the young gunslinger, still laughing, holstered his gun and turned around to go back into the saloon.

The old man turned to his pack mule, pulled out a double-barreled shotgun, and cocked both hammers.

The loud clicks carried clearly through the desert air.

The crowd stopped laughing immediately. The young gunslinger heard the sounds too, and he turned around very slowly.  The silence was almost deafening.

The crowd watched as the young gunman stared at the old timer and the large gaping holes of those twin barrels.

The barrels of the shotgun never wavered in the old man’s hands, as he quietly said, “Son, have you ever licked a mule’s ass?”

The gunslinger swallowed hard and said, “No sir….. But… I’ve always wanted to.”

There are a few lessons for us all here:

  • Never be arrogant.
  • Don’t waste ammunition.
  • Whiskey makes you think you’re smarter than you are.
  • Always, always make sure you know who has the power.
  • Don’t mess with old men, they didn’t get old by being stupid.

I just love a story with a happy ending, don’t you?

Good evening mates.  Hope that you are all having a fine week.

I have no yarns to spin tonight.  I did enjoy the World Series even though my Braves were not there as I had hoped.  And my Bulldogs are having a “wait ‘til next year” kind of year.  I went in for my annual physical yesterday and am awaiting the blood test results.

It has been a GREAT WEEK for this country at the ballot box!  My faith in America is restored.  I will share the following as sort of a post election footnote…  Some of you may remember that back in March when the Health Care Reform Bill (ObamaCare) was being debated, I wrote individual letters to 31 Democrat Congressmen in the U. S. House of Representatives that were said to be “on the fence” as to whether or not to vote for the bill.  I urged them all to vote AGAINST that bill.  A copy of that letter is still posted on the “Politics and Freedom” User Forum on this website for any who would like to review it and/or comment.  I received NO REPLY from any of those 31 Democrats, and every single one of them voted FOR Obamacare.  In the last paragraph of that letter I issued the following “warning” to legislators:  It is my sincere desire that every lawmaker who casts a vote for this horrendous socialist legislation will be fired themselves, and will join millions of other Americans in the unemployment line after the next election.”  I checked the election results for each of those 31 Congressmen and you might find this interesting.  A total of 23 of them WERE FIRED!... they lost their seats.  A few were one-term legislators but many of them had been in office for many years.  Another 3 of those congressional races are still too close to call.  And the five that were clear cut winners were re-elected in very liberal districts by less than a 3% winning margin.  Those stubborn and arrogant Congressmen DID NOT listen to the American people in March, but I have a feeling that they heard us all loud and clear here in November!

By the way… my own personal health care insurance (that Obama PROMISED would cost less) went up by over 39% effective October 1st.  And then on Tuesday of this week (Election Day appropriately) I received another notice from my insurance company that my premiums will go up AGAIN!... (17%) effective January 1st.  I sincerely believe that those so called health care “reforms” are designed in part to drive private health care insurance providers out of business so that the U.S. Government will be the ONLY provider of coverage and be in full control of every American from cradle to grave.   Gee thanks, Comrade Obama… and a special thanks to Nancy Pelosi… don’t let the door hit your butt on the way out!

Don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour this weekend.  Have a good one!

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Gary Grice

Happy Friday!  Don, you still sound upset even in light of all of the good news.  I just read that Princess Pelosi is going back out on her promise to resign if the Republicans took over the House of Representatives.  Seems she now wants to be the Minority Leader.  In other news, and just to irritate Don a little more, AARP is raising their insurance rates.  I resigned my AARP membership because of their support for Obamacare.  I guess my missing dues more than offset the TREMENDOUS savings Obamacare created in their insurance program.  I have now learned that I am a member of the "counter" culture.  Every time I go to the doctor and he gives me a prescription, I have to get a second prescription to COUNTER the harmful effects of the first prescription.  At some point, the cure is worse than the disease.  I may have to sign onto the program attributed to the Republicans by the idiot (now former) Democrat representative from Florida and "Just Die".  I still say, we have the best politicians money can buy - Rangel, Reed, etc.

Don, have you thought about resending those letters with an "I told you so" note attached?

Well HAPPY (early) BIRTHDAY Benny!  I hope you enjoy a joyous celebration and are enjoying that new grand baby!  Everyone have a wonderful and blessed FALL weekend!  Later.

PS - a little joke to brighten your day.

Six retired Jewish Floridian fellows were playing poker in the condo clubhouse when Meyer loses $500 on a single hand, clutches his chest, and drops dead at the table.

Showing respect for their fallen comrade, the other five continue playing, but standing up.

At the end of the game, Finklestein looks around and asks, “So, who's gonna tell his vife?”

They cut the cards. Goldberg picks the low card and has to carry the news.

They tell him to be discreet, be gentle, don't make a bad situation any worse.

“Discreet? I'm the most discreet person you'll ever meet. Discretion is my middle name. Leave it to me.”

Goldberg goes over to the Meyer’s condo and knocks on the door. The wife answers through the door and asks what he wants?

Goldberg declares: “Your husband just lost $500 in a poker game and is afraid to come home.”

“Tell him to drop dead!” yells the wife.

“I'll go tell him.” says Goldberg.

WOW!  Did anyone else get caught up in a whirlwind this weekend?!?  Let me bore you with my none stop effort to take FULL advantage of the "extra" hour.  Friday evening as soon as I got home we had a quick bowl of soup.  Sherron had baked a cake for our Pastor's wife's birthday and we took it to her as soon they got home.  Our pastor was involved in an chainsaw accident several weeks ago and we needed to check on him also.  He is having a skin graph today in Atlanta.  We left their house and went to "First Friday" in beautiful downtown Watkinsville.  This is an effort by business and government to retain the small town ambiance.  We walked around visiting several of the shops and had desert.  After what seemed like a short night, we got up and prepared to head down to Winterville for the Veteran's Day recognition and FREE lunch.  They serve BBQ to all veterans every year.   We sat with a young man who was wounded in Afghanistan and was recently medically retired due to his wounds. Next stop, sister-in-laws house where I picked up her husband and went to the local gun shop - just because.  After a short visit, hurried home for a quick dinner before heading off to game night with some friends.  Had a great time and a lot of laughs.  Hurry home, reset the clocks and grabbed 40 or so winks.  Sunday morning, off to church and SS.  Took Sherron out to lunch at Wendy's, since we had to run by Wal-Mart and they share the same parking lot.  Quick stop at Wally World to pick up party napkins for Sunday afternoon get together.  Stopped and picked up Miss Shirley at Magnolia Estates enroute home to pick up presents and tent for the party.  Off to Erin's for Julianna's first birthday party!  It was conducted in waves.  First phase was a dedication service by the pastor that married her and JJ.  Next, eats!  JJ made BBQ.  Then open presents!  TOO MUCH!! I haven't had that many toys in my entire life!! Helped clean up and take down the tent to return to my neighbor.  Delivered Miss Shirley to Magnolia and FINALLY, headed home.  Felt like 10:00 or 11:00 but was only about 7:00.  Watched Sherron sleep on the sofa til time to wake her up to go to bed.  And that was MY weekend.  Its good to be back at work where I can get some REST!  I look forward to having a boring week.  I hope you all have a BLESSED week.  Later.

Sounds like you needed that "extra" hour, Gary.  By the way... the annual time change reminds me of an old Indian Proverb that goes something like this... "Only white man believe that you make blanket longer by cutting off one end and sewing it on the other end."

A Happy Veterans Day in advance.  God bless all the men and women who have served in our Armed Services.  And God Bless America.

Hey! Gary, you had a busy weekend indeed, but I know the highlight must have been the party for that cute little granddaughter. The time change is good in the mornings, but I hate having it dark at 5:30 in the evening. Makes for a long night.

Don, I agree with your Indian friends. : )

Our weekend was zany, too. Dick had plane delays out of Philadelphia, and did not get home until 2 AM Sat. I sat up for him as I always do, only to give him a quick hug and glance as we dragged ourselves up stairs to bed. Then we were up at 6:30 AM to get things ready for a women's breakfast at our church. Then we went to a bonfire/hayride that night at the farm of church friends. To church twice on Sunday, and then Dick was back up at 4:30 Monday and back off to Philly. Hopefully this weekend will be more relaxed.

No news here. Having gorgeous weather which is supposed to last all week. Maybe I'll rake leaves and do some outside work.

Blessings one and all. Gary, I agree SO MUCH with Connie in thanking you for the website. You do a great job, and I know people enjoy checking in. Everybody should be able to tell by the junk I write that you don't have to have anything important to say to make an entry.

Love to everyone!

I COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER GARY! AND SAY A PRAYER FOR

ALL OUR FALLEN BROTHERS AND SISTERS.

HAPPY VETERANS DAY FOLKS!!!

11/11/10 07:35 PM #1881

Diane Harris (Moore)

I'm late checking in, but I want to also wish all you who have served our country a Veteran's Day filled with thanks. As I wrote earlier on another site, I saw these words framed on the wall in my doctor's office:

"A veteran, whether active duty or retired, is someone who at one point in his/her life wrote a blank check made payable to the United States of America, for an amount up to and including his/her life."

This is so true, but in peace time it is often forgotten. I salute all veterans everywhere, and that includes many from the class of '68. Now, it includes many of our children.

Thank you!

Diane Harris (Moore)

OK, so I am posting just to show those who think "I don't have anything to say", that I don't either, but I won't let it stop me.

It's raining. The kind of steady, beating rain that we've needed for such a long time. The kind that makes you glad you have no place to go, and a dry place to call home. The kind that brings out your nesting instinct, and says "put on your jammies early and make popcorn". I'll do both of those things as soon as I say "hey".

I got a call today on my cell phone, and could tell it was a Georgia number. Excitedly I said, "hello!" A southern drawl that I recognized said, "Diana?" I said "Nancy?" Yes, it was Nancy G., but in the ultimate insult she said, "Diane! I didn't mean to call YOU!" I wondered why she suddenly started calling me Diana. Wrong numbers are a nuisance, but when they come from a good friend, they are just so sad. Oh, well, it was good to hear your voice, Nancy, even if it was only for a second. (You know I love you! I got a kick out of it)

OK, time for my jammies and popcorn. Dick is gone, and he and I both are thinking it's too much traveling. I know! I'll call and annoy him! I'll describe the delectable smell of my popcorn, and it will drive him insane!

Love y'all. See? Even when there's nothing to say, there's always SOMETHING.

Well, I like Diane, just wanted to pop in and say HI!  Has been and continues to be a hectic week.  Maybe I'll share my schedule when it slows down.  Several years ago our phone rang one night and 30 minutes later Sherron hung up.  My curosity got the better of me and when I inquired who it was, she responded, "Wrong number."  Some lonely little old lady was trying to call the beauty shop.  Imagine how long Sherron can talk when someone calls she knows.  Any who, I came across this web site, Awkward School Pictures, and though ya'll might enjoy.  I didn't find anyone I recognize but the site does offer the opportunity to post pictures.  Hope everyone is having a GREAT week.  Later.
