Kathy, I'm sorry you have been so down. Losing Inez was tragic. I know that spring has not been as beautiful this year those who loved her most, and in whose lives she was in daily. It's impossible not to be sad not only for her family and friends, but for the years she should have had remaining to enjoy all of them. Some things are just not meant to be understood, and this is one of them. Knowing she was surely heaven bound, is wonderful, but to our human minds it still just doesn't seem right. I always think that living our best lives is the best way to pay tribute to those we have loved. I hope you feel better real soon. We care about you!

Gary, your jokes make us all smile, and we need that. Inez would love them, too. Dick and I read the jokes, followed by Yogi's wisdom, together, and we roared. Thank you for the gift of laughter!

Wishing everybody a beautiful, April week.

Sounds like everyone needs a little cheering up around here.  So I guess its up to me.  Since cats seem to be a hot topic, maybe this will bring a smile to some faces.  Hope everyone is having an otherwise blessed day.  Later.

Gary, thanks for posting a cat that is so easy to find. Who does stuff like that?!

Also, I did finally find the other cat, too. I had to read your special instructions to me several times, (that "stop reading-start reading" was kinda confusing!), but I finally found the feline, and could go on about my day.

Hello, mates...

The Physical Therapist thought it might be good for Liz to get out of the house for about an hour over the weekend, so we went down the street for a Friday night date at IHOP for dinner.  She wasn't doing a lot of "hopping" but it was nice to get out.  We had a nasty storm come through after we got back home Friday night.  We got heavy rain and wind with some small hail.  We had 3.5 inches of rain, and about 2 inches of that fell in about 30 minutes or so... a real "frog strangler".  But no damage here... it was much worse around us, and tornados in Alabama, North Carolina and up the coast.  Hope all of you are safe and sound.

Jim... I was feeling good when the Braves swept the "lowly" Mets in that Saturday double header, but we should have won the game Sunday too.  Not very consistent hitting yet.  GO BRAVES!

Gary... I liked your "Yogi close encounter" better than mine!  LOL!  And since you requested the photo of Yogi Berra at the 1989 book signing, here it is... along with a bonus... a couple of Yogi baseball cards I collected as a kid.  The cards are a 1962 Topps, and a 1962 Post Cereal.  I would ask my Mom to buy the cereal box with the best player cards on the back.  I ate a lot of bad cereals (yuk!) when I was 12 to get the cards I wanted, including Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris!  These cards have survived 49 years!

Have a great week mates!

AFTERNOON MATES FROM THE HEART OF GEORGIA. I JUST WANTED

TO SAY THANKS TO THE GOOD LORD FOR SPARING US THE SUFFERING

THAT OUR NEIGHBOR STATES SUFFERED THIS PAST WEEKEND.  THESE

PAST THREE YEARS HAVE GIVEN US SOME FREAKY WEATHER. FOR

YEARS WE READ ABOUT THE STORMS OF THE MID-WEST. BUT MAN, 62

STORMS IN NORTH CAROLINA. THIS IS GETTING REAL STRANGE FOLKS.

ANYWAY, I SAY A PRAYER EVERY TIME A COLD FRONT STARTS EAST

THESE DAYS!

DON, AS FAR AS OUR BRAVES. THEY ARE JUST ABOUT AS PREDICTABLE

AS THIS WEATHER HUH! THE PITCHING HAS BEEN EXCELLENT. YOU JUST

CAN'T AVERAGE 2/3 RUNS PER GAME AND EXPECT TO WIN. THERE IS NO

WAY THIS TEAM SHOULD BE DOING THIS. IT JUST FEELS AT TIMES LIKE

SOMETHING BIG IS ABOUT TO BUST WIDE OPEN!

I GOT TO PLAY GOLF YESTERDAY! COULD NOT ASK FOR A BETTER

WEATHER DAY. ONLY PROBLEM WAS I COULD NOT HAVE HIT THE BALL

IF IT HAD BEEN THE SIZE OF A BEACH BALL. DON'T MISUNDERSTAND

I LOVED BEING OUT THERE. BUT NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY MY BROTHER-

IN-LAW, THE JUDGE, SAYS HE IS GOING TO START SENTENCING PRISONERS

TO PLAY THE GAME AS A PUNISHMENT. MAN---I---STUNK---IT---UP! PLUS

I HAD TO TAKE TWO START-ME-GOING PILLS THIS MORNING BEFORE I

WAS ABLE TO MOVE. ANYWAY, BETTER NOW AND IN RETROSPECT ALL

IN ALL IT WAS A GREAT DAY TO BE HERE!

SO HAVE A GREAT WEEK MATES. AND NO MATTER WHAT FOLKS SAY

WE STILL LOVE YOU BRAVES! AND YOU FANS TOO!

LATER ON!!!

Greetings and salutations!  Just received a text from my middle daughter that she was standing outside GMA in NY!  Wish I had known she was going to be there so I could have recorded the show.  Me, I just rolled out of the dentist chair.  Had a root canal that's requiring considerable follow-up.  Well it's Spring in the morning, Fall in the evening and Summer in the afternoon .... (sung to Sugar in the Morning).  Expecting 86 today!  What will August have to offer?  Don, I love the pictures!  Good ole' baseball cards.  If I had half of those I threw away, I could go ahead and retire! .... but put in my papers yesterday to retire May 1, 2012.  Can't get here soon enough!  While browsing the net, I came across this picture of three Class of '68 good ole' boys.  Now I know two who have beards but can't seem to identify the third.  Thought maybe the ladies, who have a much keener eye could help.  Feel free to post names ladies.  I noticed that Jimmy Tiller was online as I signed in.  Jimmy I hope you leave a kind word.  Everyone have a blessed day.  Later.

Whenever Liz asks me what I want for a special occasion (birthday, anniversary, etc.) I always tell her I want a pair of overalls!  LOL!  I still don't have a pair after almost 29 years of marriage.

Diane Harris (Moore)

Jim, thanks for the beautiful link. It is appropriate every day of the year, but it's especially meaningful as Easter approaches.

Don, did you give yourself away as being one of the handsome studs in Gary's photograph? I think you did. I would make a stab at who I think the other two are, but I am afraid Gary would post a female version of the picture, and I might be in that group. As far as I know Teresa Burt had the only incriminating photo that I ever saw of myself. She says she destroyed it years ago, but sometimes I lie awake at night and wonder..... I am sooooo glad we did not have cyber photos back then!

We are floating away up here. We got almost 3 and a half inches of rain today with more coming tonight. I sure am looking forward to all those awesome May flowers that must be on the way.

Oh, and Don, you have had more close encounters with famous people than anyone I ever saw. I think I'll start stalking somebody famous just so I can compete.

Jim, thanks again for the sharing that link. It really was special, and I enjoyed it very much.

Love....

Greetings and Salutations one and all!  Its a beautiful day in the neighborhood.  Diane, you know how they say a hit dog always barks - I think Don barked!!!  My father's favorite attire was bibbed overals .... even to the point that we considered burying him in a pair.  He always wanted me to wear them too but I never had the desire to hook on a pair.  Grab a tissue and read this heart warming story.  "Hannah"  I work with her father so we get to keep up with her achievements.  She is wearing the crown because she was elected the High School Homecoming Queen last fall by her classmates.  Now on a lighter side, I know you all enjoy kids saying the darnest things so here grab your ribs and laugh away.  Hope you are all having a blessed week.  Later.

A 2nd grader asked her mother the age-old question, "How did I get here?"

Her mother told her, "God sent you."

"Did God send you, too?" asked the child.

"Yes, Dear," the mother replied.

"What about Grandma and Grandpa?" the child persisted.

"He sent them also" the mother said.

"Did he send their parents, too?" asked the child.

"Yes, Dear, He did," said the mother patiently.

"So you're telling me that there has been NO sex in this family for 200 years? No wonder everyone's so damn grumpy around here."

Look Guys, I know what you're thinking! You're saying "hay

that's Jim in the middle"! Come on Gary admit it! Anyway, I

hate overalls. As a kid I had to wear them all the time. The

only good thing about overall's is you can get out of them

real FAST!

Have a great day mates! (I hate to admit it, but that dude

really does look like me!!) The other two are "Foots" and

Owens!

LATER!

I don't know if I've ever seen MY NAME and the words "handsome stud" in the same sentence, but I'll take what I can get.  Thanks, Diane (I think).  :-)   And yes (woof woof), that's me in the photo... I'm the one with the beard and overalls and hat.  By the way... Ron and I wore overalls too when we were little fellows, and then graduated to SUSPENDERS.  I'm not sure which was worse.  Did any of you guys ever have to wear suspenders?

I stayed up late last night watching the Braves playing the Dodgers out on the left coast.  I went to bed shortly after midnight and the Braves were leading 2-0 in the 7th inning.  I see this morning that they scored 8 runs in the 9th inning and won 10-1.  We have a one game winning streak, Jim!  GO BRAVES!

Have a great hump day mates.  I won't be going to church tonight... still nursing Liz.  Haven't been to church in two weeks, and I'm getting very ornery and mean!  GRRRRR.

Hope you are ok up there in Ohio, Diane and Dick.  There was some nasty weather in Louisville last night.

Have a good day folks... there's another cold front headed east!

04/21/11 08:52 AM #2196

Gary Grice

A Great Good Day to one and all.  Ok Jim, you are the one in the middle.  Its obvious - looks like you and obviously a successful business man ..... since he's the only one wearing a shirt!  Don, I don't know what to say - MY NAME and "handsome stud" frequently appear in the same sentence - but always as an antithesis.  My daughter and her husband will be returning from NY today - Praise the Lord!  We love our grandkids, but 48 hours is MORE than enough loving.  A grandparents two greatest moments .... headlights coming and taillights going!  The HR secretary sent me an email yesterday to ask me if I wanted my name on a retirement plaque or if I preferred something different.  I told her I would prefer "Master of the Universe" but my name would be sufficient.  She responded back, "Dear Master of the Universe" ......  This could be fun!  I hope you all have a very BLESSED day.  Later.

04/21/11 10:22 AM #2197

Diane Harris (Moore)

Don and Gary, it scares me that you seem complimented at my reference to those three guys (who may or may not be you two and Jimmy) as "handsome studs". You need to look at them again. I'm starting to wonder if having another reunion is such a good idea if this is what we can expect. Please post recent pictures, like from yesterday! I'll prepare myself.

Had forgot about your retirement coming up in July, Gary. How wonderful! Now there will be two reasons for fireworks. Also glad you survived your grandchildren, but I'm also envious that you were able to have them for awhile. It is a tiring, tiring thing, but I know you'll agree that it's a "great" tired.

Class of '68, may your day be one of good health, productivity, and may you bless others as you have been blessed.

04/21/11 12:44 PM #2198

Gary Grice

Diane .... that picture WAS TAKEN YESTERDAY!!!  I just read on FaceBook about your glasses dilemma.  Maybe since you've found them you should take another look!  On second thought, leave off the glasses and keep thinking we are handsome studs!!  Rumors of my imminent retirement are greatly (wishfully) exaggerated.  I won't really retire until May 1, 2012!! I know thats a long ways away but knowing the speed at which government bureaucracy moves .... I thought it would be in their best interest if they knew my intentions as soon as possible.  Work on the FY12 (July 1, 2012) budget will begin soon and I know they want to eliminate some positions.  Mine would be a fine one to eliminate (after I'm gone).  Weather here is kind of fickled today.  Threats of bad weather but all we got was wind and a sprinkling this morning.  There is still hope for this evening - otherwise, I'll have to cut grass.  I don't want to have to do that silly rain dance in my front yard again.  All the neighbors really think I'm strange wearing nothing but a loin cloth and whoopin' and hollin' at the sky.  I guess it could be worse - I could be wearing bibbed overalls with the straps too short!  Have a great day!  Later.

04/21/11 01:36 PM #2199

Donald Chandler

Well...  I guess I won't be wearing overalls to our next class reunion.

04/21/11 02:48 PM #2200

Yo Don, nothing personal but from that profile picture you're posting ...... I'm wondering if you will be out of prison by our next class reunion!  Later.

Gary Grice

Okay, okay.  I'll shut up after this but couldn't let these pass.  Enjoy.  Later.

There are a group of animals in a restaurant.

The waiter comes over at the end of the night to collect for the drinks

The skunk says 'Don't look at me, I haven't got a scent'

The duck says 'Just put it on my bill'

The cow says 'You'll have to ask one of the udders'

The deer says 'I had a buck last week and I'm expecting a little doe soon'

The giraffe says 'Well, I guess the high balls are on me then'

Better than Viagra - I understand.

Well kind of a sleepy day around here today.  Grey and overcast following some pretty good rain storms this morning.  I trust all have big plans for a great Easter weekend.  We will have an Easter Egg hunt for our grandkids and lunch for the family on Sunday.  Great fun but pretty expensive.  All the moms don't want the little ones to have too much sugar so candied eggs are out.  Boiled and decorated ones are too much trouble so ...... Papa gets to load up plastic eggs with money!  Yesterday afternoon I was having one of those "whatever happend to" afternoons and Frank Frosch came to mind.  I think most of you know he was killed in Cambodia but I wondered what legacy may have been left on the internet.  Well I came across the story about him, written by some guy named ...... Lewis Grizzard.  Here is a link for your reading enjoyment - Frank Frosch.  It looks like good ole' Lewis could have named Oglethorpe County instead of "some rural high school near Athens."  Oh well, we all know.  Anywho, Lewis is dead and I'm not feeling so well myself, so I think I'll just have another cup of coffee and ponder days gone by.  May you all have a MOST BLESSED and HOLY Easter.  Later.  Oh Don, maybe they will let you out early for good behavior if you keep taking good care of Liz!

04/22/11 02:22 PM #2204

Donald Chandler

Great article on Frank Frosch.  I remember the name but did not get to know him personally.  I do see that there was a full page dedication to him in the 1967 Arrowhead.  Maybe since I was at OCHS for only my Junior and Senior years, I missed him.  May God Bless his memory.  And I LOVED Lewis Grizzard.  I read his column in the Atlanta Constitution every morning.  I would very often break out laughing right in the middle of breakfast and Liz would know I was reading Lewis.  He was a great writer and could get right to the heart of the matter... and make you laugh, or make you cry.  He was just a good ole country boy that I could identify with.  When Lewis died, I felt like I lost a good friend.  He too left us far too soon.

I doubt that Liz will be able to attend Easter services this Sunday, but if she does, maybe I can get out of jail long enough to accompany her.  Here's wishing you all a safe and HAPPY EASTER with your friends and families.  HE IS RISEN!

Thanks Gary for the article on Mr Frosch. I always wondered what

happen to him. And who better than Lewis to write an epitaph! That

was a good memory! Thanks!!!

Have a great weekend mates!

That picture is hilarious. Now where did you find that, Gary? You alwas give me a chuckle with the witty things you post. Haven't checked the other links yet, but will.

As a point of info, I wanted to let you all know that Glenn Nix's mother is dying. She is in the nursing home in Crawford,(has been for years, has dementia & hasn't known anyone for a long time) and they have moved her to one of the hospice rooms there, so it will just be a matter of time now. She is my aunt, my daddy's sister.

Hope all have a HAPPY EASTER.

Connie Morgan (White)

Thinking of my Class of '68 friends on this beautiful Easter day.      I hope you are well.

I always enjoy reading the message forum - keeping up with those who check in, laughing at the jokes,  sharing memories.

Gary, I too enjoyed the article on Mr. Frosch.  And Don, I loved reading Lewis Grizzard also!   I felt like he could have grown up in Oglethorpe County too.

No news to share.   Just love y'all and wanted to tell you I think of you every day.   Keep posting on this site.   Keeps us connected.

Today I did "forsake the gathering together", and I had my own Sunrise Service.   Something in me just felt like this is what I needed to do today.    I took my bible, a hymn book, and a chair and went to the cemetery in Arnoldsville   (My Morgan grandparents and some other family are buried there).   I was there before the sun came up and stayed about 1 1/2 hr - but the time flew.     I read, I sang and I prayed.   I watched that beautiful sun rise over the trees and tombstones and it was such an awesome reminder of our Lord and Savior Jesus...

Diane Harris (Moore)

Connie, I think what you did was awesome. Can't think of a more intimate way to be with the Lord, and celebrate His blessings and promises than amid the memories of those you have loved best. I love you.
