Connie, sounds like a perfect Easter to me.  Sounds like you got back to what its really all about.  Our Easter was far more worldly.  Had all my children over and had an easter egg hunt for the grandkids.  Lots of fun but I think I need to plan a day of rest following such events. So far no one has bit on my tongue and cheek sentence after the Lewis Grizzard posting.  I forget who turned me onto his writings, but his first book I read was, "Elvis is dead and I don't feel so well myself" (or something close to that).  Another close encounter story - my neighbor who passed away several years back, was in the hospital having his heart valve replacement at the same time as Lewis Grizzard.  I understand they stayed in touch through the years.  Well kind of a slow Monday around here.  I'll have to find something to liven up this party.  I'll post more later and hope to get some updated pictures of my kids and grandkids uploaded soon.  Hope you all have a great week.  Later.

Okay, here are a couple of funnies to brighten your day.  The first is especially for our medical community representative, Connie, I hope it brings you a smile.  Later.

Two doctors opened an office in Madison, Connecticut and put up a sign reading "Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones, Psychiatry and Proctology."

The town council was not happy with the sign, so the doctors changed it to "Hysterias and Posteriors."

This was not acceptable either, so in an effort to satisfy the council they changed the sign to "Schizoids and Hemorrhoids."

No go.

Next, they tried "Catatonics and High Colonics."

The town council turned thumbs down again.

Then came "Manic Depressives and Anal Retentives."

Still no good.

Another attempt resulted in "Minds and Behinds."

Unacceptable again.

So they tried "Lost Souls and Butt Holes."

No way.

"Analysis and Anal Cysts?"

Nope.

"Nuts and Butts?"

Uh uh.

"Freaks and Cheeks?"

Still no go.

"Loons and Moons?"

Forget it.

Almost at their wit's end, the doctors finally came up with: "Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones, Odds and Ends."

Everyone loved it.

A maiden was renowned throughout the kingdom for her beauty.

One day, the queen learned of her. Being envious, she threw the maiden into the dungeon. And the queen made her wear an ugly, ugly dress.

Every day, she saw knights riding past. She called for help, but they were repulsed by the dress.

Eventually, she realized no knight would rescue a damsel in this dress.

Three in a row Don!

It was a great Easter! The weather was most likely the finest we've

had in years.  And all our Grand nephews and nieces had a fantastic

time. The only problem was all that candy and I'm on a diet! Guess

that's what I get for having so much fun before yesterday! It would

have been nice to have just one chocolate easter egg! Just wait til

next year!!!

Some "Odds & Ends", mates...  :-)

A quiet Easter here.  I think this is the first Easter we have missed church services since we have been married.  Liz is doing well but didn't feel up to gettting out with the new knee.  We stayed home and watched Easter services online.  We also watched our DVD copy of "Jesus of Nazareth," the over six-hour long Franco Zeffirelli film (1977), which is in my opinion the best movie about the life of Christ that has ever been made.  Glad you all had a good Resurrection Day... and Connie, sounds like you had a very special Easter... I would love to hear you sing.

Jim... those were three GREAT Braves wins against the World Champion San Francisco Giants!  I watched all three games.  The Saturday game especially was fun to see... Hudson beating Lincecum.  The Braves finally got some timely hitting to go with their great pitching and defense.  I hope this is the start of turning things around.  A good weekend for the local pro teams... even the Atlanta Hawks won two NBA Playoff games.

Gary... I did catch your sly reference to "Elvis is Dead and I Don't Feel So Good Myself".  Lewis had some great titles for his books...  "My Daddy Was a Pistol, and I'm a Son of a Gun", "When My Love Returns From the Ladies Room, Will I Be Too Old To Care?", "Don't Bend Over in the Garden, Granny, You Know Them Taters Got Eyes", and "If I Ever Get Back To Georgia, I'm Gonna Nail My Feet To the Ground."... just to name a few of his 20 books or so.  I have one of Lewis' books on my own bookshelf called "I Haven't Understood Anything Since 1962, and Other Nekkid Truths", published not long before he died.  He was one of a kind.

Say... have any of you received an invitation to the Royal Wedding?

Have a good week, mates.

Glad to hear from several of you that your Easter week-end was good.   The weather was certainly beautiful here in Ga.    How was Ohio Diane?       I know you Braves fans  have enjoyed the past few games  :)

Gary, your day with the grandkids ( and of course the "kids")  sounds wonderful and like a day of sweet memories!!!  I always enjoy looking at your pictures and those beautiful children!

Don, I hate to disappoint you, but I can not "carry a tune in a bucket"   (whatever that means).  I love music and to sing, but mine is best in the shower or alone somewhere!.   That's o.k. - God doesn't mind if the notes are all wrong..

It was a busy, hectic Monday at work, but I am hoping for the rest of the week to be a bit better.  I sure hope that all of you have a good week!

Gary, I am happy that you can be planning for retirement!!   (Wish I could.)   That dog-gone insurance (or lack of insurance) once I stop working has squashed all hopes I had of retiring at 62.    We don't have the option of paying and continuing our insurance at work, and as I understand it, no Medicare until 65.    If anyone has any words of wisdom, I would sure appreciate them.     I have to say tho, I am thankful to just be working 3-4 days a week, - BUT 39 years of this is enough.      Anyway, I do celebrate with those of you who have retired or look forward to doing that soon!

Kathy, keep us posted on Glenn's mother.   I know we will be lifting them in prayers.   The death of a parent is so hard.

Take care friends...   Love you.

Enjoyed reading aboout all your Easter weekends. We had a n egg hunt on Saturday at church for all the kids.Sunrise service was at 7, followed by breakfast, then S.S. at 9 followed by cantata at 10. Al  the kids were there for lunch Sunday.Connie, I loved what you said you did. What a wonderful way to celebraate His resurrection.

I he not heard from my aunt this week so I know she is still living. she may have eeven gotten bettter. Her daughter flew in from Arizona. They had once talked about putting a feeding tube in, but I don't think they wanted to do they, but may have changed their mind. I'll let you know  if she passes. My spelling(typing) is horrible today. Please forgive.

Up early today. Sleeping with the windows open lets the birds be my alarm clock, and as soon as I hear them I'm up. Had hoped to sit outside with my coffee before the next round of rain starts, but it's sprinkling just enough to spoil my plan. The April rains just won't let up. It's the rainiest on record, and we consider ourselves lucky to still have a dry basement. We did have a few hours of sun late yesterday, and Dick and I were able to squish around in the yard for a while, attempting some yard work.

Connie, it stinks about insurance issues preventing you from retiring. It reminds me of my sister's situation a few years ago. She is 8 years younger than her husband, and HE was the one who had to keep working until SHE was  old enough for medicare. Thank goodness he wanted to anyway, and was physically able. If I come up with a solution, I will advise. Bummer.

No news. Just saying HI. Good to hear from you, Kathy, as always. Don, so glad Liz continues to improve, and Jim, sorry about your last disappointing trip to the golf course. Next time will be better, I'm positive.

Gary, keep those jokes a comin'. They have been especially funny lately. I have one I want to post, but I have forgot it already. Need to retrieve it from an email.

Stay away from tornados, friends.

May your day be full of springtime goodness.

Such a devastating night of storms.  I hope you are all safe.    I'm o.k. here in Crawford.

What a nasty, stormy night in Georgia... and all across the south.  I hope that all of you are safe and sound.  Dozens of tornadoes, and that big one touched down in Tuscaloosa about 6 pm yesterday and plowed a destructive path of over 200 miles across Alabama, North Georgia, into North Carolina, leaving devastation and misery.  My heart breaks for the many lives affected, and there are thousands.  Please say a prayer for them.  I've heard the death toll is around 200 and climbing.  It is hard to watch the news coverage of the aftermath.  We are fine here in Cobb County... it seems the nasty stuff went north of us and south of us.  We had less than half an inch of rain this time around.

Stay safe my friends.

Diane Harris (Moore)

I am so thankful to be hearing that y'all are OK after all those tornados. I had no idea when I told you yesterday to "stay away from tornados" that the danger was that real. We have some scattered classmates, and I pray that all of them and their families are safe. Strong winds woke me at 1:30 this morning, and when I went to check on TV for weather warnings, I saw warnings were up for "my part" of Georgia. Couldn't go back to sleep 'till about 5 AM, hoping and praying that what happened to poor Tuscaloosa wouldn't be repeated in GA. Have heard about Ringold. Just so sad.

Back in April of '74, long before we ever dreamed we'd live here, a tornado struck Xenia and killed 36 people. The outbreak of tornados that day set a record that may finally be broken after yesterday. We have heard many, many tales of close calls from survivors of that tornado who are now our friends.

Take care my friends. I love my "not that old" friends, and want you all safe!

Greetings and Salutations.  Glad to hear that all are doing well after the return to OZ last night. Sherron got up when the weather radio went off about 1:00 AM and turned on the TV.  I mustered all the concern I could ....... and went back to sleep.  When you've slept on top of a nuclear reactor with jets landing just above your head .....  what's a little tornado!  My prayers go out to all those affected by the storms.  When I think about the tornados that hit Athens back in the early 70's and the psychological impact it had on so many, I'm even more moved.  It will take a long time for all of the scars to heal.  I think we could use a little cheering up so here's a little funny dedicated to all of you dedicated teachers.  Let us know how many times this happened to YOU!  Hope you all have a very blessed day.   Later.

On the first day of school, the children brought gifts for their teacher.

The florist's son brought the teacher a bouquet of flowers.

The candy-store owner's daughter gave the teacher a pretty box of candy.

Then the liquor-store owner's son brought up a big, heavy box. The teacher lifted it up and noticed that it was leaking a little bit. She touched a drop of the liquid with her finger and tasted it. "Is it wine?", she guessed.

"No," the boy replied.

She tasted another drop and asked, "Champagne?

"No," said the little boy..."It's a puppy!"

It’s a quiet evening here in Marietta, unlike the stormy, stressful night of 24 hours ago.  The news footage today from Tuscaloosa, Ringgold, and other hard-hit communities is enough to make you weep.  But I am happy to know that you are all safe in Crawford, Watkinsville, Eatonton, and wherever you may be.  I guess as an insurance man, Jim, you will have your hands full in the coming days.

That “puppy” joke was a good one, Gary… VERY FUNNY!  No Braves game tonight… they’re playing well right now, winning 5 of their last 6 games on the road, and coming back to Atlanta to start a home stand tomorrow night... GO BRAVES!  And I see that Georgia's A. J. Green went #4 in the NFL Draft tonight... GO DAWGS!  By the way… I’m no big NBA Hoops fan, but it is notable that the Atlanta Hawks won their best of seven series against Orlando tonight in the NBA Playoffs and will move on to the second round against the Chicago Bulls.

Some of you know that I have an interest in history, and in my own Family History as well.  In Medieval England, a “Chandler” was a candle maker, and the word “chandelier” derives from the Chandler trade.  Through research years ago, I discovered that my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, John Chandler, an English commoner, was born in London and christened there at St. Margaret’s Westminster Church on September 7, 1600.  When he was nine years old, John Chandler immigrated from England to America, the youngest passenger aboard the Hercules of Rye, part of a fleet of three ships bound for Jamestown, Virginia in 1610.  John grew up in the Jamestown Colony, married, prospered, and was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses… and twelve generations later, HERE I AM, the son of Benjamin Thornton Chandler, a farmer.  And I have NO candle making skills.  And I have never been to England, but St Margaret’s Westminster Church still stands in London on Parliament Square, right next door to Westminster Abbey.  It is a smaller church, built in the 12th century to serve the commoners of London who disliked the ceremony of Westminster Abbey.  You probably already know that Westminster Abbey will be in the worldwide spotlight tomorrow when Prince William marries English commoner Kate Middleton.  I understand that festivities will begin around 5 am EST tomorrow, and I will NOT be up to see it live.  Through the Chandler Family Association, a genealogical association of which I am a member, I recently learned that Kate Middleton’s great-grandmother was Edith Eliza Chandler, born in 1889, the daughter of Theophilus Benjamin Chandler and a long line of Chandlers in England.  NO… I cannot claim to be Kate's cousin, at least that I am aware of.  If we have any Chandler connection at all, it would have to go back more than 12 generations, before my ancestor John left London for the New World.  Perhaps that is why I DID NOT receive an invitation to the Royal Wedding.  Or maybe my invitation just got lost in the mail.

Have a good and safe weekend, mates.  Reporting live from the Colonies… this is Don, American commoner.

Greetings and Salutations!  God save the Queen - and everyone else as well.  As a former loyal subject, I had to take a peep at the proceedings the AM.  My invitation must have gotten lost in the mail also (along with Barak Obamma's (he, he!)).  Them Brits know how to throw a party!  Wonder when the wedding night video will be released?  Can you imagine living in such a fishbowl - in some cases literally!  I wondered why the colonies never installed a king/queen but then I see how movie stars, professional athletes and politicians are treated and I think we just have a different name for them.  Don, I see you changed your picture.  Now my posts aren't nearly as funny.  Guess I'll just have to think of something else catchy to post.  Its amazing how similar/dissimilar our backgrounds are.  My ancestors too immigrated from jolly old England where my 8th great grandad was the village idiot in the small town of Dumb-ford.  His sixteenth illigimate son Tom, Tom Foolery signed on the Good Ship Lollypop as Captain of the Head.   While dumping sewage off the coast of North Carolina, he fell overboard and washed up on the beach.  He soon returned to the family calling and thus it has been passed down to me.  You know its easy to excell above low expectations.  I hope everyone has a very blessed weekend.  Later.

I love your family tree, Gary.  :-)  Liz woke up early this morning and said, "I'm going down stairs to watch the big news on TV."  "What... the NFL Draft?" I asked.  (just kidding)  Anyway, she watched the Royal Wedding while I kept my Royal Hiney in bed.

And, Gary... I've decided to change photos occasionally to see if anyone is paying attention.  I'm sure you can find some way to make fun of little "Donnie".

I'm sure that Barack and Michelle were really ticked off that they didn't get invited to the Royal Wedding.  LOL!  BTW... speaking of family trees and King Obama... check this out...

That reminds me, Jim... the other day while driving near Marietta, I passed a LIQUOR STORE with a sign out by the street advertising a "Little Black Dress" sale.  I kid you not.  Anyway, here's a pic, Jim... just for you... enjoy the party!

04/29/11 04:42 PM #2226

Gary Grice

Jim, I do believe this is the "little black dress" of which you speak, however, I'm not sure it can truly be classified as a dress.  No doubt she is quite a beautiful young lady and looked very stunning in all white today as well.  Being the inquisitor that I am, I attempted to discover the allure of the "little black dress".  It seems that since it is black, it does not demand the attention of the viewer and thus one is more able to fully appreciate the form and figure of its wearer, ie., the dress becomes just an accessory, accentuating the wearer's beauty.  So what you are truly appreciating is not the dress but the wearer.  So ladies, if you want to catch a fellow's eye (especially Jim's), wear a little black dress! (Right .... like you didn't already know that trick!)  Have a great weekend.  Later.

Funny how the ones talking most about little black dresses are the guys. And you sound real knowledgeable, too. I think y'all ought to go into the dress designing business. "Mr. Don, Mr. Gary, and Mr. Jimmy", and you can wear cute little bow ties and boutonnieres in your lapels and walk all prissy. Just saying.....

May your weekend be a happy one everybody.

Hello friends,

Hope all are having a good weekend. It's so terrible about the devastation caused by those horrific tornados. I have a nephew & family that live inHuntsville. One part of Huuntsville waas hit badly. Their home is all right, but they lost a big tree in their back yard. They of course have no power & don't know how long they will be w/out it. He drove to Tennessee w/ a bunch of gas cans  to get gas for his generator, so they are making out o.k. They don't know when their kids wil be back in school. They have a 16, 13, & 11 year olds. The high school was hit.

As for news from Glenn Nix's mama, she is still living and is eating a little bit. They family has already made funeral plans. They said she will eat a little bit of cold food, so she may last a while. My sister went to see her Easter Sunday & said she is just skin & bones, has lost so much weight.I want to remember her the way she was. I will keep you posted.

Greetings and Salutations - Happy Monday.  I trust everyone's weekend was at least better than Osama's!  News and pictures indicate a contingency of U. S. Navy Seals left a bloody mess in Pakistan and Osama is being processed into crab poop.  I had a good weekend but its good to be back in the office where I can get some rest.  "Girly Men!?!?"  Just because we appreciate the feminine form wrapped in accentuating black with a hint of flesh seductively display?  GUILTY!!!!!  I hope you ladies ENJOY watching us guys stumble all over ourselves while acting like you don't notice and pretending that wasn't your intention.  Oh, the games we play.  Well I suppose we should act our ages so here's a few words to help keep things in perspective.  Have a GREAT day.  Later.

1. She was in the bathroom, putting on her makeup, under the watchful eyes of her young granddaughter, as she'd done many times before. After she applied her lipstick and started to leave, the little one said, 'But Gramma, you forgot to kiss the toilet paper good-bye!'
I will probably never put lipstick on again without thinking about kissing the toilet paper good-bye!!

2. My young grandson called the other day to wish me Happy Birthday. He asked me how old I was, and I told him, '62.' He was quiet for a moment, and then he asked, 'Did you start at 1?'

3. After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair. As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin. Finally, she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she left the room, she heard the three-year-old say with a trembling voice, 'Who was THAT?'

4. A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like: 'We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods.'  The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this all in. At last she said, 'I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!'

5. My grandson was visiting one day when he asked, 'Grandma, do you know how you and God are alike?' I mentally polished my halo and I said, 'No, how are we alike?' 'You're both old,' he replied.

6. A little girl was diligently pounding away on her grandfather's word processor. She told him she was writing a story. 'What's it about?' he asked. 'I don't know,' she replied, 'I can't read.

7. I didn't know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so I decided to test her. I would point out something and ask what color it was. She would tell me and was always correct. It was fun for me, so I continued. At last she headed for the door, saying, 'Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these yourself!'

8. When my grandson Melvin and I entered our vacation cabin, we kept the lights off until we were inside to keep from attracting pesky insects. Still, a few fireflies followed us in. Noticing them before I did, Billy whispered, 'It's no use Grandpa. Now the mosquitoes are coming after us with flashlights.'

9. When my grandson asked me how old I was, I teasingly replied, 'I'm not sure.'
'Look in your underwear, Grandpa,' he advised. 'Mine says I'm four to six.'

10. A second grader came home from school and said to her grandmother, 'Grandma, guess what? We learned how to make babies today.' The grandmother, more than a little surprised, tried to keep her cool. 'That's interesting,' she said, 'how do you make babies?'
''It's simple,' replied the girl. 'You just change 'y' to 'i' and add 'es'.'

11. Children's Logic: 'Give me a sentence about a public servant,' said a teacher.
The small boy wrote: 'The fireman came down the ladder pregnant.' The teacher took the lad aside to correct him. 'Don't you know what pregnant means?' she asked. 'Sure,' said the young boy confidently. 'It means carrying a child.'

12. A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon full of kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children started discussing the dog's duties. 'They use him to keep crowds back,' said one child.
'No,' said another, 'He's just for good luck.' A third child brought the argument to a close. 'They use the dogs,' she said firmly, 'to find the fire hydrants!
