One more thing.......Janie, awesome sounding trip to Alaska!! Way to go! I sure told Dick Moore about that!   Actually, back in April he told me to get a new passport, 'cause he says " I might be doing some work in Italy, and you might want to go, too". Well, I thought to myself, "What a sly old fox. I bet he's gonna whisk me away to Italy for our anniversary."  I went along, playing dumb (boy, was that a stretch!). Well, guess what. It really was for work, but he didn't go after all. A co-worker did. But (sigh) Michigan was nice, too.  I wouldn't know what to do with myself in Italy anyway, and would probably end up in jail or something. Just wanted to tell you about that, Janie! Would love to get to Alaska some day!

Greetings and Salutations one and all!  I was going to lay low for a couple of days and then I noticed that Bobby Sparks has a birthday tomorrow!  Its been a while since we've heard from you but I hope you are checking in from time to time and all is well.  Any who, here's wishing you a Very Happy Birthday!  May your special day be filled with much joyous celebration!!! To all others, I wish you a wonderful weekend.  (GO DAWGS!!!) And since I can't depart with out a light hearted note, here's today's chuckle.  If someone has moved my car, I'll have to do the same thing I did in Newport, Rhode Island when the lights went out!!!  Later.

A cowboy rode into town and stopped at the saloon for a drink. Unfortunately, the locals always had a habit of picking on newcomers. When he finished, he found his horse had been stolen.

He comes back into the bar, handily flips his gun into the air, catches it above his head without even looking and fires a shot into the ceiling. "Who stole my horse?" he yelled with surprising forcefulness.

No one answered.

"I'm gonna have another beer and if my horse ain't back outside by the time I'm finished, I'm gonna do what I dun back in Texas and I don't want to have to do what I dun back in Texas!"

Some of the locals shifted restlessly.

He had another beer, walked outside, and his horse was back! He saddled up and started to ride out of town.

The bartender wandered out of the bar and asked, "Say partner, what happened in Texas?"

The cowboy turned back and said, "I had to walk home!"

PS - I ran into Elaine McGarity, Charles' wife today - didn't hurt her too badly!!! Just kidding.  She is now retired from her government job and is working parttime at the Echo.

Hi to all,

I'm afraid that it is another sad Saturday night for most of us after the way that the game turned out today. Of course I'm over here in S.C. country and most of them will be rubbing it in tomorrow at church. I truly hate it for Burton because he REALLY gets ragged about it. Not only is his wife a USC girl, but Burton has become rather famous around here for his comments on a Friday morning radio talk show from Columbia about football. They call him "bulldog Burton" and if he doesn't call in, they will call him. So it's another sad week for him.

Gail, I hope you will be able to keep your blood sugar under control. It would be a hardthing for me, since I truly enjoy sweets. Rabun has always done wonderfully. He is not a sweet eater.

I truly enjoy hearing about your trips. Daine, your pics of Mi. are wonderful I felt like you carried me on a tour.

I have 2 places on my bucket list that I would like to visit, but proably will never make it. I want to go all the way up the eastern coast line to see all those fishing villages and I would love to go to the country side of Italy and visit those villages. If any of ya'll get to do that be sure to take lots of pictures to share so I can tour them that way at least.

Judy, stop by and write more often.(Well aren't I the one to talk) since I haven't been visiting the site very much myself lately.I wiil try to be more faithful, it's just that sometimes I simply have to rest in bed and then at times I just don't want to talk w/anyone, (not even my sisters). Well, enough with my struggles. Lately I have been having some good days and I am thankful for everyone of them.

Well Autumn is upon us and I look forward to cooler temps and pray for rain for all the places in the south that have such drought. My sweet hubby is looking forward to bow hunting season in a few weeks, but I worry about him. His hunting buddy died in Jan. and I don't want him to go by himself. He assures me he will be ok.

I hope all of you have a good fall and enjoy the beauty of the season colors.

Later,

Kathy

Yes Kathy, our beloved Bulldogs lost Saturday....Falcons lost Sunday...I'm not sure about the Braves.                On the bright side for me, my 7 year old grandson's rec. football team won and  Junior did make it into the Chase, so I was glad about that.

No news that I know of in Crawford.   I hope you all have a good week.

Greetings and salutations one and all.  I hope everyone had a GREAT weekend.  I attended my nephew's wedding at the Tucker Plantation (Smithonia).  He has been running with the "towny" crowd and it was, well, different.  And that's okay.  You might say it was "awesome".  I think too often we change ourselves to "fit in" and forget how awesome we are.  I came across the following writing and just thought I would like to share it with all my "awesome" friends.  I hope you all have a very blessed week.  Later.

YOU ARE AWESOME!

There was a time when you were five years old, and you woke up full of awesome.
 You knew you were awesome.
 You loved yourself.
You thought you were beautiful, even with missing teeth and messy hair and mismatched socks inside your grubby sneakers.
You loved your body, and the things it could do.
You thought you were strong.
You knew you were smart.
Do you still have it?
The awesome.
Did someone take it from you?
Did you let them?
Did you hand it over, because someone told you weren’t beautiful enough, thin enough, smart enough, good enough?
Why the hell would you listen to them?
Did you consider they might be full of shit?
Wouldn’t that be nuts, to tell my little girl below that in another five or ten years she might hate herself because she doesn’t look like a starving and Photoshopped fashion model?
Or even more bizarre, that she should be sexy over smart, beautiful over bold?
Are you freaking kidding me?
Look at her. She is full of awesome.
You were, once. Maybe you still are. Maybe you are in the process of getting it back.
All I know is that if you aren’t waking up feeling like this about yourself, you are really missing out.

Amelia says Good Morning.

Gary, I LOVE this! It is so true. Oh, to recapture that youthful enthusiam and confidence. Most of mine left way before I became a teenager. God made us in His own image, and if that doesn't make us awesome, then what does? Surely nothing I do on my own, but just because He made me.

I will edit a couple of words and make me a copy of this. Much obliged!

Oh, Gary, was just stopping by for a moment and wasn't goding to sign in, but had to tell you how much I enjoyed reading your last entry. I, too, as Diane, want to change a few words and use it. It really touched my heart. Thanks for sharing it. Just can't imagine where you find all these things you share w/ us.

Greetings and salutations one and all - and happy hump day!!!  We have been warned to expect another hot summer day today and then FALL will be arriving tomorrow.  I had to wear a jacket and cap this morning for my ride in - top down.  I probably look like a fool, all bundled up but at least I have company.  Met a man headed the other way two days ago with his top down, with hat and coat.  Must be an old man thing.  My apologies to Diane, Kathy and others if some of my posting offend, but unless they are REAL offensive (depending on the audience), I try not to edit other's writings. I guess the internet was just made for me Kathy.  I have always enjoyed "sayings" and inspirational quotations.  Now I read several blogs each day - so I can make it through the day.  I frequently need something to lift my spirits and I can always find something on the internet.  I just copy and paste here what touches me and hope it will maybe help someone else make it through the day.  I guess its my way of sharing a smile across the electronic ocean.  I guess that's my "awesomeness"!  Sherron and I get up about 5:00 and have our coffee on the deck.   For the last several days, we have really been enjoying the Harvest Moon and I found this picture posted by someone with the same appreciation.  Here's hoping it will bless someone stopping in for a visit.  I hope everyone is having a very blessed week.  Later.

Hello, friends! Just stopping by before the weekend begins to say "Have a good one!"

Also, an in formant has told me that Don and Liz will be celebrating 29 years of matrimony this Sunday, so I really wanted to acknowledge that. Don and Liz, congrats, and many more!

So glad the heat has broken down there. Our last few mornings have been downright chilly, and I had to wear a light jacket when I went out this morning. Fall is definitely making her appearance known, but it has always been my favorite season, so I am OK with it.

Jimmy, I don't know what sounds you might be referring to that you haven't started making yet, but my mind went a few places pretty quick. Hope you can hold off on them awhile, because some of those sounds are real romance killers.

May God keep all of you safe and well!

Greeting and salutations one and all and a happy FRIDAY!!!!  Almost made it through another one.  Thanks Diane for mentioning Don and Liz's anniversary.  I would like to add my well wishes too.  May God continue to bless you marriage for many, many years to come!!!  I also noticed that Mr. Pryor has a birthday today.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY - may your day be filled with much joyous and happy celebrating!  It just happens to be our youngest grandchild's birthday as well - one year old today!   I ran into Charles McGarity last evening at Lowe's - didn't hurt him too badly - oops, I've already used that joke.  Anyway, he is doing well; collecting necessary supplies for a host of projects around the house - like me.  Knowing we have a lot of movie fans around here, I thought the following might provide a little levity - Things That Always Happen in Movies, But Never Ever in Real Life.  Well, here's hoping you each have a most blessed weekend - and GO DAWGS!!!  Later.

Thanks, Mates...

... for reminding me that my 29th Wedding Anniversary is coming up Sunday!  Thank goodness I checked in on the forum, or else I would have forgotten it completely and been severely beaten around the head and shoulders on the Lord's Day.  Just kidding... I did NOT forget!  In fact, we are planning to go out and celebrate after Sunday School and Church on Sunday.  I am a Blessed Man!

I could really get used to this nice fall weather we're having.  It feels GREAT!... real FOOTBALL weather!  And Fall isn't even here yet.  Someone should tell our Bulldogs and Falcons that football season has already started.  Our Dawgs looked better last week, and I thought they outplayed South Carolina but just made too many mistakes.  The really bright spot was that new kid Isaiah Crowell... I know I'm not a prophet but I think Isaiah's gonna be GOOD!  The Dawgs should win tomorrow, but I do not take anything for granted.  GO DAWGS!  And me... I'm still in a baseball frame of mind.  How about you, Brer Jim... are you still watching the Braves down there in the Briar Patch?  I know they haven't looked very good the last few weeks, and the starting pitching is looking a little shaky, and I'm not sure they could make it past the first round even if they do make the playoffs, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts.  GO BRAVES!

And Gary... happy birthday to your grandchild.  I'm sure she/he is full of AWESOME!

Thanks again for the good wishes for our anniversary.  Enjoy the weekend mates!

Reporting live from Marietta... this is Don.

BTW... I need a haircut.  Can any of you recommend a good CELEBRITY barber?

Hi Friends,

I hope all of you are in bed asleep and enjoying peaceful dreams. I just needed to use this forum to ask you to say a little prayer for me. I have a few health issues which have been going on a while, that the doctors can't seem to get resolved for me. One doctor wants to treat it one way and another, completely different. I just want to be better.I am just about at my wits end with this. (Please forgive me for complaining)

I've already sent wishes to Liz & Don via FB.

Gary, thanks for taking the time to do what you do for this class sight.I truly hope you are doing well.

Yes, Jim, it is wonderful to have someone who loves you forever, whatever.

Next time I hope I won't be moaning & groaning about my minute woes.

Later Pals

Greetings an' salutations one an' all an' happy Mondee.  And happy Talk Like a Pirate Day!!  What they can't come up with.  For any who may not be gifted with a "pirate's tongue", here's a link to a translator.  Talk Like a Pirate.  I hope you all had a GREAT weekend.  Good for the Dawgs and Falcons, not so much for the Braves but then Don was distracted so I'm sure the disappointment was minimal.  Pretty quiet around the Grice household this weekend, just the usual - worked too hard in the yard Saturday and managed to fill Sunday with going and visiting.  There's a feel of Fall in the air.  Maybe we've survived the heat and better days are ahead.  I hope you all have a very BLESSED week.  Later.

Connie Morgan (White)

Well, as you can probably tell, I am off work today and had much rather think about getting together with old friends from the class of '68 than doing the list I had made of things that I have to get done today.

Again:   Sunday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. here in Crawford   --  please plan to come...

I need help in letting people know so they can make plans.

I used the class list that Gary made for us and started making a few calls.... but I have to get busy now, so I am going to ask for help:

I have talked to:  Gary (via e-mail), Diane/Dick, Teresa Burt (message to Jim), Kathy Carter, Judy Stewart, Linda Wheless, Sheryl Burgess, Ray Wheless (he will tell Kay), Alvin Mathis, Jane Griffith, Tommy Adkins,  Charles McGarity (spoke with Elaine),  Dale Bishop (spoke with Carol), Junior Smith (spoke with Shirley),  I saw Beverly Burgess husband (Donnie) and told him

I left message for:  Nancy Tucker, Gail Gabriel, PeeWee, Janie Ethridge,

No answer or answering machine:   Jesse Allen Bray, Vicki Arnold

SO  (according to my list) these people need to be contacted:

Benny Allen, Joy Callaway, Don Chandler, Jim Willis (Don & Jim - I figured you will see it on this site), Ross/Pam, Steve Eberhardt, Monteen Fields, Danny Gabriel, Dennis Helmreich, Bobby Sparks, Tessie, Jimmy tiller, Thelma Tucker, Delores Tucker, virginia Vaughn, Kathy Wheless, Edna Howard, Ralph Huff, Dorothy Jones, Dorsey King, David Landers, Linda Massey, Glen Nix, Louise Patton, Susan Peterman, Melvin Young

ALSO the "left message for" and "no answer" people need to be called.  (Nancy T., Gail G., PeeWee, janie E, Jesse Allen, Vicki A.)

SURE WOULD APPRECIATE HELP IN LETTING THEM KNOW.

Diane Harris (Moore)

Connie, thank you for once again offering your home as a gathering place for such a rowdy bunch. It's comfortable, easy to find, and right there in the middle of our old stomping grounds.

Dick and I are going to do our best to be there. I'll call anyone on the list, so I'd just rather have an assignment. (I'm not scared of anybody!)

Thanks again for affording us this opportunity. It's a sure bet that it won't be the best time for everyone, but maybe lots of us can make it. I can't think of a prettier time of year to pass out hugs.

Hope everyone is having a good day. Today is my day for appts.

Greetings and salutations one and all and Happy Friday and Happy First Day of Fall!  Finally, the long hot summer is history.  Not much going on in the Classic City, just quiet and rainy.  We really need the rain, so I'm not complaining.  Want to wish Louise an early Happy Birthday!  May your day be filled with much joyous celebrating.  Today's funny is dedicated to all those classmates who worked with cows in their youth.  Maybe they can provide a similar personal story.  I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend.  Later.

Old man Frank goes and gets a loan from the bank to buy a high priced bull. A few days later, the banker comes along and asks, "How's our bull doing?"

Frank says, "Our bull ain't doing too good. I got him out there in the pasture with a bunch of young cows and he don't want nothing to do with them."

The banker says, "You better call the veterinarian." Frank agrees.

A couple of days later, the banker comes along again and says, "How's our bull doing now?"

Frank says, "Plenty darn good. He has done serviced all of my cows, jumped the fence, and is working on the neighbors' cows."

The banker says, "Wow! What did the Vet give him?"

Frank says, "He gave him some pills."

The banker says, "What kind of pills?"

Frank says, "I don't know, but they tasted sort of like peppermint."

Good Day, Mates!  Welcome to Fall!...

Liz and I had a great 29th Wedding Anniversary weekend.  Thanks again for all your good wishes.

We had two inches of rain here in our backyard in Marietta last night!... All week long the rain had been either north of us, south of us, east of us, or west of us, but last night we finally got a much needed soaking.   Hope you got some rain too this week if you needed it.

Earlier this week, we were watching one of our favorite TV shows, "Auction Kings" on the Discovery Channel.  For you who may not be familiar with it, it's one of those new reality shows set in an auction house, where all kinds of antiques and collectibles, from cars to baseball cards to curiosities, are brought up for sale to the highest bidder.  Interestingly, the auction house, Gallery 63, is located right here in Atlanta not too far from us.  We would like to go to one of their auctions, but they are usually held on Sunday morning at 11 am when we are in church.  Anyway, they had some interesting items this week.  First, Gary, there was a bright green Mini-Cooper!... it went for $6,500.  And then there was a First Edition copy of "Gone with the Wind", signed by Margaret Mitchell.  It sold for $4,750!  I read GWTW way back when, and I checked the copy that I have on my own bookshelf... it is NOT a first editon, but an 81st Printing, published in 1971, and autographed by ME.  It is probably worth about $4.75.  :-)    BTW... do any of you remember going to Beta Club Convention in Atlanta in 1968 and going to see "Gone with the Wind" at Loew's Grand Theater?  I still have a full color GWTW program from that event.  But, back to the auction... another item they had up for bid was a pile of fossilized dinosaur POOP... and I believe it sold for $125.  I wish I could think of a clever line here, but I can't think of one right now.  Crap!

Well sports fans, the Dawgs and the Falcons bounced back last weekend (the Falcons game was really good).  But my Braves are in a freefall... not looking very good.  Help, Jim!  They still have a two game lead for a wild card playoff spot, but with 6 games to go, and those games against two teams that we do not play very well, the season may be over next week.  I know I don't sound very optimistic, and I hope they prove me wrong.  GO BRAVES!  Now back to the Dawgs... I think they have a better chance of winning, but it may not be easy.  BTW, I got a Facebook message the other day from my great-niece Dakota, the Freshman at UGA, asking for my advice.  She is on the new photography staff of the "Pandora" (it's the UGA yearbook for those who may not know).  She has been issued a Press Pass to be on the sidelines Saturday for the Ole Miss game in Oxford.  She is so excited!  I asked her if she needed an assistant (me).  :-)  GO DAKOTA!  GO DAWGS!

I too want to thank Connie for inviting us to her house on 10/23.  We have a family reunion in Toccoa on Saturday, 10/22 (my Mom's family)... but I still plan to be at Connie's on Sunday afternoon, even if Liz can't be there.  We'll see how it goes.

Kathy... hope you are feeling better, and hope you find the right medical staff to come up with the right diagnosis and proper treatment for your health issues.

And finally, I can't let Gary's "bull" go without comment.  I will respond with a photo below, circa 1965, of two "studs"... yours truly (so skinny!), and our favorite bull, Bennie, named after my father Benjamin.  Now, Bennie never needed any bovine viagra that I know of, and I never heard any of the cows complain about him.  But Bennie did have something in common with our current President... they both produced a lot of bull----!  And Bennie and our cows produced more "shovel ready" JOBS than the Obama Administration ever has... and Ron and I had to do the shoveling!

Have a great weekend, mates!  Reporting live from Marietta, and thankful for the rain... this is Don.

Thanks for your response Diane and your offer to help call.  If there are no more "volunteers" in the next few days, you and I can divide the list and try to contact everyone.

Glad to hear from Joy C. via this site that she plans to be there.   Also glad to hear you are planning to come Don.

Gary and Don seem to be quite "full of bull" these last few days --- just kidding guys!   Liked the joke and boy, THAT was a bull Don!

I hope you all have good week-ends.

Donald Chandler

I too would like to send birthday wishes to Ross.  Hope you have a good one!

Well, Jim... your description of our Braves is right on, unfortunately.  They are sinking and they just can't hit, especially with runners on.  I was watching yesterday when they loaded the bases with NOBODY OUT, and the top of our lineup coming up to bat... and they DID NOT SCORE!  And then they had runners on second and third in the very next inning with only one out and the top of the lineup at bat again, and DID NOT SCORE! It's enough to make a preacher cuss! I like to be positive, but they just look bad right now.  With three games left at home, they HAVE to beat the mighty Phillies (best record in baseball) at least twice... and that may not be enough... then they have to hope that the red hot Cardinals lose one to lowly Houston (worst record in baseball).  It ain't lookin' good.  And if, by some miracle they do make the playoffs, they could not get past the first round playing the way they are now.  I hope they prove me wrong.  I still love 'em anyway! GO BRAVES!

HAVE A GREAT WEEK, MATES!
