James Forehead

James Forehead

Jim Forehead was an interesting and multi-talented guy, to say the least. He played trumpet in the band, as well as guitar in a short-lived rock combo that performed "Walk, Don't Run" in the Homecoming Parade (1960?) Jim was an accomplished automotive mechanic, and for many years ran The Sports Car Garage, that would do repair work on almost any foreign sportscar, including some that had never been seen in Omaha before. He also worked on constructing various home-built versions of racing cars.

I knew Jim back in high school, but I've had no contact with him for many years. As the drummer in the referenced rock combo ("The Moonmen" -- named for the large eyeball 'Moon Equipped' decals on my bass drum) I wanted to make sure that Jim was remembered in some way. Every time I hear The Ventures play early surf music I think of him! -- Tom Burton

Jim and I entered Westside together in the seventh grade.  Over the years he was distinguished not only by having the longest hair (male division) of anyone in our class but probably being the wittiest as well.  He had a great sense of humor and of the absurd, always good company.  If you had car problem Jim was the guy to consult.

This is very sad news to hear. My condolences to his family and friends.  From time to time I would see and talk to Jim at his car shop in Papillion.  Both he and I were car guys  going way back to when I was involved in the SCCA and then later when my son raced NASCAR late models at I-70 speedway located east of Kansas City.  Jim concentrated on servicing and repairing exotic sport cars and I'm sure the motoring community in and around Omaha will miss his passion and his expertise.  It's time to put your tools down Jim and rest in peace.
