Trojan Alumni Varsity Club Newsletter                                                      August 2022

The members attending the TAVC general membership meeting on August 2 had the pleasure of hearing Eric Steiner speak.  He has been the strength and conditioning coach for the PHS football team for the past 12 years.  He is also the power lifting team coach of which 98% of the members are football players.  Eric represented football head coach Tim Moncman who could not attend due to a scheduling conflict.  Eric spoke about the upcoming football season and expectations.  This is a young team with only 9 seniors returning but he feels the underclassmen look very promising.   It is amazing the strength and size of the Parkland athletes!  He spoke about the conditioning and training they do year-round – not just football season.  Attending with him was his son Kyle who is a member of the golf team.  Kyle answered some questions from the group about the golf team as well!    The 22 members in attendance got a bonus speaker!

After the speaker’s presentation the meeting was called to order.  The minutes and treasurer’s report from the July meeting were read and approved.

It was discussed that the monument needs some attention.  There are weeds growing between the bricks that need to be pulled.  Volunteers are needed to help pull weeds and refill the sand between the bricks.  The school maintenance department only cuts the grass around the monument and are not responsible for the monument itself. If we get enough helpers, it won’t take long at all.  We will set a definite date as soon as Rick is able to contact the maintenance department and we have volunteers but we have to do it before school begins for the semester.  If you are able to help, please call Hank or Rick Trumbauer.

Elections for officers and board members will be held in November.  Since all terms are for one year we are looking for interested members to be on the ballot.  Contact any officer or board member if you are interested prior to the October meeting.

The annual holiday party will be held December 1 at Twin Lakes.  If you would like to help with planning please contact Charlene.  We need to select a menu, book entertainment, decorations, programs.  We are looking for new ideas!

Dine and Donate is back!  Thank you to Sam Raub for scheduling 2 dates for the events.
