Trojan Alumni Varsity Club Newsletter                                               April 2024

The first TAVC general membership meeting for 2024 was held Tuesday, April 2 at HOPS Fogelsville.  Great food and service as usual!  We had a fantastic turnout for our first meeting – 28 people attended.

Our guest speaker was Terry Stoudt.  He spoke to the club about his 50+ year career as a football and basketball official.  He told numerous stories about games he officiated on high school and college level.  Over the years he met many coaches and players and shared many of his memories from his long career.  Terry had an impact on many young athletes over his many years coaching Parkland youth programs.  His presentation was lighthearted and fun and enjoyed by everyone in attendance.

The meeting was called to order and Hank reported that our three scholarship recipients have all received their checks over the Christmas break from school. We will soon be receiving applications for the 2024 scholarship selections to be awarded in May.  The selection committee from last year will serve again.  Elmer Heiney offered to fill Ron Bealer’s spot.

Rick reported that after a 2 year delay all bricks are installed in the monument!   Thanks to Rick for using the few warmer days in March to get this done.

We had a new member attend and join the club – Kelly Pritchard.  Kelly is the daughter of Gary Phillips.  She is a 1984 PHS graduate and played field hockey.  Welcome to Kelly!

Elmer mentioned that Ken Ruth is in rehab at Country Meadows Allentown after a leg fracture.  If anyone wishes to send a card it may brighten his day.

On a sadder note, we have lost 3 long time club members over the winter months.  Marv Bortz, Abner Krumanocker, and Ron Bealer will be missed by all especially when we remember all the great memories of the club that they were part of.   Ron’s family asked that donations be sent to the club in his name.  We have received donations of $1825 from 29 donors.  We received a thank you card from the Bortz family for donations to his church and all the cards and kind thoughts from club members.
