Trojan Alumni Varsity Club Newsletter                                               July 2025

Our guest speaker was  Erik Steiner, powerlifting and strength coach at PHS.  Erik brought his son Kyle along to speak to the club also.  Kyle is a PHS grad and is attending Susquehanna University.  He was a member of the powerlifting team at Parkland.  They spoke about the program and competitions.  Powerlifting is not a PIAA sport so it functions as a club at PHS but the team competes through Powerlifting America.  Parkland teams have won 2 national championships.  The team consists of about 25- 40 athletes – many of which are football players also.  It is evident how fortunate Parkland athletes are to have such an engaged coach and such a great program that benefits other sports as well as just the powerlifting team.

After our great meal the meeting was called to order.

Jonathan Kuhns asked if the powerlifting team is eligible for our scholarships since they are not awarded varsity letters.  Hank said at this time they are not but the board will review this and discuss.

Keith Williams has agreed to assume Sam Raub’s position on the board.  We thank Keith for his acceptance and thank you to Sam for his years of serving the club as a board member and many years on the golf tournament committee.

Rick is working on bricks for the monument.  We will recognize the power lifting team’s  national championship with a brick in their honor.  He is also designing a double brick that will display the names of the state championship girls relay team.  We will also install a brick for Will Dobil recognized for all-state baseball.

There was no further new business from the members so meeting adjourned.
