The first TAVC general membership meeting for 2025 was held Tuesday, April 8 at HOPS Fogelsville.  Great food and service as usual!  We had a 21 people attend.

Our guest speaker was Ryan Nunamaker, the new varsity golf coach for PHS.  He brought a member of the team to speak also, AJ Sundstrom.  AJ is a junior and a seasoned member of the team.  Ryan spoke about the way matches are played throughout the season.  It is a short season beginning in August and ends in early fall.  He only has about 2 days in August to form a team and prepare for the season.   AJ spoke of how teams advance through league, districts, and state tournaments.  Both speakers were able to answer questions from the members.

The meeting was called to order and Hank reported that our four scholarship recipients have all received their checks.  The deadline for applications to be submitted to the guidance office is Friday, April 11 and we will be receiving them by April 15.  The selection committee from last year will serve again.  Larry Bernhard has offered to fill Elmer’s spot.

Rick reported that he has 4 bricks to be installed in the monument.

The Parkland Softball team will honor their state championship teams on Sat. April 26.  There will be several games and activities at the high school from 9-3:30.  All are welcome to attend.  The board voted to do a sponsorship for the event.  Our name will be displayed in the programs throughout the season, verbal recognition at each home game,  and our club’s name on team T-shirts.

Parkland Ice Hockey will host a golf tournament  May 31 at Shepherd Hills.  If interested, contact Hank for info.

Hank mentioned that Harley Wenninger was interviewed by Mike Sewards from the Lehigh Valley Veterans History Project .  They came to his home and videotaped the interview.  They spoke to him about his WWII Navy service on the USS San Diego. He entered the service at age 18 – a kid from Greenawalds that never saw the ocean before!  His stories are truly amazing.  The video will be archived in Washington DC for eternity!  Our thanks to Harley for his service.
