The July meeting was attended by 19 members. Our guest speaker was Christopher Strzelecki. He is a 1996 PHS graduate and football letterman. He currently lives in NJ where he owns his own business and coaches high school football.
We had a surprise visitor in attendance. Sam Gold received our scholarship 2 years ago and is attending University of Richmond. He is home for the summer and doing an internship in the area. . He heard of our meeting and decided he wanted to attend. Sam ran track in high school and he thanked the club for selecting him as a scholarship recipient and stated that it was very helpful to his education. He spoke about his plans to attend meetings when he is in the area and he hopes to get several of his Parkland friends attend with him. The members enjoyed speaking with him and hope to see him again soon.
Hank informed the members that there was an article about Nancy Schaddt in the Parkland Press. She designed and made a quilt that she donated to the General Board of Church and Society at the United Nations. There Is a lovely picture of Nancy and the Assistant General Secretary of the United Nations standing by the quilt. Nancy’s husband Richard was a founding member of the club and after his passing Nancy donated money to endow a scholarship in Richard and his brother Dalton.s name. We are grateful to her for making it possible to award that 4th sholarship to a PHS athlete and so happy to see her doing well and staying active at 89 years old.
On a sadder note, we had 2 members pass away - Jack Roth and Howard Correll. Howard was along time club member and prior to moving to Mosser Nursing home a few years ago he attended every meeting. Jack was a 1967 PHS graduate and an outstanding athlete lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. He went to West Point where he was the captain of the Army football team and after his deployment he returned to West Point as an assistant football coach before beginning his career at Air Products. Jack supported PHS athletics and attended many games. Our thoughts and condolences go out to both their families.
There was no new business from the members. Meeting was adjourned.
