Hi guys! I think someone was hot or there wouldn't have been so many babies!Speaking of hair, I was just telling Carol I got mine cut today and it looks almost the same as hers. It was getting down to my shoulders but to hard to straighten since I was "blessed" with curly hair. I don't remember that 6th grade graduation at the high school. I wonder if I went? Oh well!+

Thank you so much Mark for the memories. If I had it to do all over again I would be in some of those photos instead of hanging out with boys. LOL

If anyone wants to "steal" Marks photos just right click and save as.

Again thanks Mark.

Lynne the reason you don't remember if you were at the Junior High graduation is because it was Paramount Jr. that Geneva posted... She is a very lucky girl to have parents who took pictures. I do appreciate them too. Like you Pat I seem to be hanging out with the guys too.

Am I remembering correctly that Roosevelt Elem was torn down? I know Grove Elem was torn down. There is a freeway going thru there now. Don and I had a house not far from there when the kids were little ones. Where was Collins Elem located?

Mark,
As I told you in my previous email, thank you for sharing all the photos. It was a lot of fun looking at some of the faces that were such a big part of my life way back when. I'm sure that many others share those thoughts as well. It was just about like going to a reunion again. Have a great time at the beach.

ALSO CLASSMATES;
PLEASE SAY A PRAYER FOR THE NEW YORK POLICE OFFICERS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THANKS

I had some double and upside down photos. I fixed them. Notice the ribbon that says, "Tromp the Tarbabes". That was for the Compton game. Any thoughts? That's what they referred to themselves as, back then. I took it as a reference to the tarbabe in the Uncle Remus tail with Biare Rabbit.

Carol Maddex (Switzer)

I would say yes it came fro the story, but in today's world and everyone being so politically correct I am sure they don't call themselves Tarbabies any more...hummm I enjoyed the pictures anyway....Fun to look at those I know...Thank you again Mark for sharing.

Geneva,

I really enjoyed looking at you photos. I need to go back and fix mine again. It was sad to see little Dale Brothers and Dennis Meacham, who are now departed. It was good to see so many people that I know, when they were little.
Did Paramount Jr. have the promotion at the high school. Is that what the final photos were?

Thank you very, very much,
Mark

Sandi, They moved Roosevelt 1 street over to Florence instead of on Golden. I lived right across from the school. They took our house for the 105 fwy in 1971. (It only took them 20 years to build the fwy.) My mom was heartbroken at the time because my dad built that house. But it was the best thing to happen. That area is very bad now. They never did use our property for the freeway. It is part of a park now.

Hi Don,
Compton College and Compton High School used to be right next to each other. We were the Tartars at Compton College. I knew that the high school were Baby Tartars. Somewhere along the line the name, "Tarbabes" came along. I've run into Compton H.S. students the last few years but they didn't know about Tarbabes.

Mike Rowan! How the heck are you? Thanks for the message.

Geneva Jacobs (Deyne)

Hi everyone...
I am so glad everyone enjoyed the pic's.
I can not take credit for the pic's....(I have no
idea how to do that). My sweetie Don is the one that puts
all the pic's on for me. I found alot of stuff in storage.
I just emptied my last storage unit. (WOW)
And now, I don't have to pay the rent......
About the 6th grade Promotion Exercises I did not
remember that all 10 schools were together that day.
The program says Gym. but we were on the field.

Talking about family trees...
The (Jacobs side)has been done back to the "Mayflower",
Miles Standish, John Alden, etc....
My Uncle is a member of the Mayflower Society, he put alot
of time & $$ into it, but did find all he needed to finish
what Grandma "J" started, years ago.

Will for my Moms side they were from Poland & Austria.
My Grandpa(Pops)was born Antonius Kotlowski,in Buffalo NY.
His parents were Thomas Kotlowski & Anna Bodriak. Later they changed the name & he was Anthony Kotlik.
My Grandma(Nana)Mary Hochwarter,born in Bethlehem,Pa.
Her parents were Raymond Hochwarter & Rosolia Millerschitz. And they were born in Ausrtia, it is
hard to read the writing, but it looks like the names
were spelled different in Austria.

It is surprizing what you find in storage????
That's my story..........
Blessings & Love to all "G"

The cruise was very nice. I'll post a picture.

Ever since I was a scout leader, I always say I don't go on outings, I go on adventures. On the way to my son's we got rear ended by some poor lady who's husband had just been attacked by two pit bulls. My daughter's trunk was pushed in, but the important thing is we could open it to get our luggage out. Hopefully the lady's husband is okay.)

When we returned to San Pedro after the cruise, we found what we thought to be my son-in-law's bag. Uh oh, it looked almost exactly like his except for the 2 red ties on each end. It belonged to some guy who lives in Washington. Luckily we got him on his cell phone (what did we do before cell phones?). He was on his way to Long Beach Airport. And also luckily his plane didn't leave until 5PM. So we got to go over the Vincent Thomas Bridge, I just love bridges.

Hello classmates,
If you got a e mail from classmates.com that said that the Las Vegas party has been cancelled, please disregard that message. I was simply trying to remove my name as the organizer of the event. I posted it on classmates and the posting automatically named me as the organizer. I did not organize this event. All the work was done by Peggy, Marianna and Billie. I apoloize for the misinformation. The Vegas party is ON. I will see you all there.

Blonde question time! Pat K., You mean they moved the whole
'school
' over one street, or they built new buildings and called it Roosevelt. Don and I lived in Hollydale from 1974 to 1991 and I'm familiar with Florence and Golden, but I don't remember a school around there. My kids went to Hollydale Elem. and I thought it was the only one around that part of town. Color me confused. Glad you had a good time on your adventure!

Sandi, Roosevelt used to be on Golden & Merkel, I lived across the street from it on Golden. Then they tore it down and put in the park which emcompasses my old house & the school property. They built a new Roosevelt on Merkel & Somerset Ranch Road (sounds fancy, huh...not!). This road was put in next to the freeway. So the school is just a little east of where it was.
Nope Hollydale wasn't the only elementary school in that area. In fact, we had lots of kids going to Roosevelt who lived in Hollydale. I think if one lived east of Hoover one went to Roosevelt. We also had a lot of kids from Downey.

Lorene BuSteed (Householder)

Hello everyone, back again. Love all your stories, the pictures etc. Bringing back those wonderful times in our lives, the memories. I have a lot of pictures that I should post from Major Lynn Mokler and Alondra Jr. High and Paramount High. When I get some time, I will drag them out and post them.

I've been working quite a bit during the week. Until this education crisis comes to some sort of agreement with money from the state of CA, things will continue to be a bit crazy and uncertain on a daily basis. Our office is one of busy Association offices in the California Teachers Association, within the state. People continue to fight for teachers rights and the education process. There is continued bargaining on a weekly basis. In my 25 years, I've never seen anything like this. So needless to say, when I get home, I'm tired.

As you know, my weekends since Feb. 7 have been at the Sleepy Hollow Ranch. Between my sisters and I we have to take care of 13 acres of land. Ok, now don't laugh at this. I kept asking my dad to show me how to use one of the three tractors on the Ranch. He said no. So what happens now. Yep, I got on one of the tractors and was trying to master it this weekend. I was determined to to plow the fields. Yes, I did it. It was funny because I had to do this all on my own, lift the box scraper, turn it around so that I could dig into the ground. At one point, I thought I was going to do a wheelie as the tractor took off. Man, that thing sure has some power. At another time, I had to dig myself out of some dirt with a shovel. I was determined not to give up. Needless to say last night, I think that every muscle in my body hurt with pain. What a work out. It does not hurt anymore though, just the initial shock to the body.

Mom is feeling much better, she gets stronger every day. She can't do as much as she used to. We were going through one of the garages, cleaning it out to get ready for one BIG garage sale. She would tell me what she wanted to keep and what she wants to sale. It will probably take about 4 Garage Sales to sell everything.

Does anyone know of anyone who might be interested in a 1941 Ford? I will post the picture.

Take care, have a great week. Keep the forum alive.

Lorene

Pat, thanks for the info. about our school. My Mom & I were told that it was NOT rebuilt. So all these years I'm thinking it was gone....

Sandi, we were neighbors, & didn't know it.
I lived in Hollydale (1950-1979) & (1984-1992).

My Mom always said it was what side of the R/R tracks you lived, as to what school you went.

When cleaning out the storage, beside finding the pic's I found my sweatshirt (Navy w/white lettering) class of 68, on the back, & my name on the front. Does anyone remember that? (Why navy?)

I learned not to put clothes in storage, (they shrink)!!!

Go Pirates......
