Thanks for the band plug Pat. Jeff's band was "Gutfiddle." He played bass. It was comprised of four "kids" from Lake Havasu. They did have a music contract though and had a CD on the market. There was a big display of their CD when it first came out at our local Hastings so I went down and took lots of pictures. The sales clerk asked "Are you one of the moms?" "Yep."

Jeff left the band when he decided he needed to "grow up" - moved to California, got a real job and then finally on to college. Go Beach!

Also Sandy, you're right. It was Quong's. I knew Kwon's didn't sound right. The food was great.

Pat...I did look up your sons band. Wish they had a link for some tunes. Do they just tour Europe?

Marcia, I googled your sons band. I am going to send the link on to my son. I know he would like to listen to them.

I really don't like the music...I sound just like my mom when I say 'turn it down or turn it off!'. Matt is only 17...a junior and I sure hope he keeps his head screwed on straight.

Does anyone remember a place in LA called Philipi's? My dad used to take us there for pistramis, I remember they had saw dust on the floor and purple pickeled eggs in a great big jar.

Yep I almost always got the pastrami at Douglas. My mom almost always got the french dip. There's a "The Hat" in Brea. Waiting for a special day or a budget break to try it. I've had a good pastrami at Tom's Place just off the 57 on Orangethorpe, but am looking forward to what I'm told is among the best at The Hat.

I also like corned beef. That fix has been fed well since the St Patrick's Day corned beef sales. Still got 1 in the freezer to fix. Geneva doesn't like it, but will eat the veggies fixed in the pot. So after the 1st meal I slice it for samiches.

Gosh going down memory lane - things were so different back then and family was always so important. Alot of the kids today gorwing up wouldn't want to have the family drives or the family burger stops.
Mom cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday except on Saturday afternoon and sometimes a Sunday was always the special day for us. We would either have burgers & fries from the Jolly Kone but most of the time it was Douglas Burgers. The best place around. Stu (my hubby) never had a pastrami from there until Stan & Marianna brought some back on one of their trips and he is now a real believer and hooked. When I was married to my first hubby he would only go to Sam's Steak house on Lakewood Blvd and they had wonderful sandwiches, too bad it is now gone.

Marianna, I think we need to make a road trip for some sandwiches don't you?????

Thanks everyone for taking us all down memory lane.

Marianna and Peggy I will gladly take you girls a pastrami from the hat. There is one right here in Rancho and yes they are the best. Lynn Pheleps is still there and my dad use to take us there when we were little. I took my kids there also when they were little and my son takes his girls now and it is still wonderful but the price has gone up.

Marianna, you can find The Urban Voodoo Machine on U-tube. They are kind of a bluesy rock band. They mainly play the UK & Ireland. But have had some gigs in other parts of Europe. They actually were in DC last year. They toured with The Pogues a few months ago. Maybe your son has heard of them. The problem is they don't get paid enough to pay for their traveling expenses. Not sure what the majority of the band lives on other than the neurosurgeon & my son-in-law.

I have been here but truly enjoying the forum. Some very cool, wicked & bitchin things are being said. That was another word all though my mouth would have been rinsed out with soap if my parents heard be say that...Pat I want to see your pictures. That is all I had...Do you must have more.
I am doing spring cleaning on my computer as well and trying to get my pictures all down loaded onto Kodak Albums. They store for free provided you order at least $4.00 worth of pic a year. That is easy enough. The prints are .15 ea and they have .10 sales all the time.

Randy, We've gone to the Lucille's in Long Beach, crowded but good food. Did you get to download the photos of our parents on my classmate profile? Let me know, so I can take them down.
Lynne, Phillipe's is still going strong. It's one block East of Olvera Street in downtown Los Angeles. They have delicious lamb sandwiches. You can get that very often. They had an anniversary sale, 10cent sandwiches!
Don, We ate at the Cracker Barrels in the mid-South and mid-East. My son, Carlos, and I took a road trip last Summer, through the Southwest and found a Cracker Barrel in Flagstaff. Always, good home cookin.
Marianna, My aunt would load up on the T.V. dinner when McCoys had them on sale. AND, we would watch T.V. and eat them. I don't think that I've eaten a T.V. dinner in 35 years (since my college days). I did like the salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, peas and apple(something or other).
I remember that the Taco Bell on Rosescrans would boil their own pinto beans in a large pot!
My cousin's husband gave me a cd with the T.V. themesongs. Rosa and I played "Guess that Themesong". It wasn't fair since she wasn't born when many of the shows were on T.V. Howdy Doody, Lassie(old version),Rawhide, Perry Mason, Bonanza, Virginian, Maverick, have Gun Will Travel, Wagon Train,Roy Rogers, Gunsmoke, Hop along Cassady, The Rebel, Real McCoys,Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to Beaver, Andy Griffith, Bob Cumming, My Little Margie, Our Miss. Brooks, Davie Crocket, Daniel Boone (cool song) Cisco Kid,Jim Bowie,Kit Carson, The Life of Riley, Dobbie Guillus, Honeymooners, Sky King, Pinky Lee, Din Dong School House, Shierff John, Engineer Bill, Highway Patrol, Make Room for Daddy, Father Knows Best, Ivanhoe (with Roger Moore), Batr Masterson, Lawrence Welk, Cheyenne, Tombstone Territory, Yancy Derringer, Wyatt Earp, Rin Tin Tin, The Lone Ranger, Wanted Dead or Alive, The Rifleman. Wow, I got carried away. No wonder I wanted to be a cowboy.

Tonight when I was leaving work there was a woman who was waiting for her hairdresser, said to me she liked my outfit and that it was groovy....It struck me funny since everyone here has been talking about old sayings...is that word coming back? Anyway it put a smile on my face as I was walking out the door.

Darn, I should of got here earlier so that after we sang Mickey's song we could have sang a rendition of "put another candle on my birthday cake" in honor of Stella and Gloria and in memory of Sherriff John and his lunch brigade.

Happy Birthday ladies!

Went to see my mom today on my way to see my two grandsons in their first soccer game. Little did I know that the people at the facility would pipe up and say why don't you take your mom to the game? I ask her if she wanted to go and she said sure. So, it was our first adventure out, she's been there for 8 days. I was very worried she wouldn't want to go back. However, thank the Lord when I pulled up after the game she said, "Oh here we are at my home." All went well, and my grandson scored the winning goal on top of that.

Hope you are all having a great weekend.
Love
Lynne
