Lorene BuSteed (Householder)

Lynne, I can't believe that you are still having snow. I would love it, but I don't live in it. That is one of the things I like living in Southern CA, ya have the best of all worlds, the beach, the mountains/snow, the desert and Carmel 6 hours away. I love it all, although I am getting to the point where I don't really like the really HOT weather anymore unless I am at Lake Havasu or the river and I'am in the water.

Still keeping rather busy, it still is not slowing down. I was telling Lynne about my adventure with my mom. You all know about the ranch, well my father would not let us touch his toys, including the tractor, which I have mastered. Well there is the cushman cart that has a clutch and NO BRAKES, my mom proceeds to say lets fill up the cushman with stuff for the yard sale and take it town to the front garage, I said, I've never driven it before. So I go over start the darn thing up trying to figure where the gears are (it's old). Hey I did it, I backed it out, my mom gets in, I said mom I've never driven this thing before and you trust me without brakes, she said you can do it. So as I am going down the hill rapidly, I think I had it in 3rd gear, so I turned to the left and made a big circle so that I did not continue the rapid speed. We made it to the garage safe. After a few times driving the darn thing, I found first gear and loved every minute of it. All these new things/adventures, I am experiencing. Gonna make a country girl out of me yet. Speaking of country, I can remember chasing the goats, holding them down with me dirt head to toe and my dad banding them, oh those were the days. LOL

You guys were all talking of places to eat when we were in high school. My favorite was Mexico City, they had the best toastadas and I loved the belli burger (chili burgers). Then there was wonderful Noels in Seal Beach, yum yum.

Have a great day everyone and be safe.

Let me correct the E-bay search.
Type in, yearbook 1965 viking log.

Searching under the title, Paramount will take forever.

Mark - Thanks for the info on the Viking Log on E-Bay. I haven't looked at mine in years so it was fun scanning through all the pictures. That certainly brings back a lot of memories. Hmmm... I wonder who is selling their book?

Marcia, e-bay says they are in Phelan. Do we know of anyone in Phelan?

Where is Phelan? Is it a town or a country??

04/29/09 02:58 PM #2224

Marcia Kraft (Barringer)

Sandi --- I didn't know where it was either. I found this on the Internet --- Phelan is a small unincorporated town located in San Bernardino County, California just south of SR 18. It is located 30 miles east of Palmdale, and 18 miles west of Victorville.

So that's our geography lesson for the day.

Well, I hate to bring this up. But it's probably either from an estate or someone couldn't pay their storage bill. Who would willingly give up their year books? I have carted mine around for over 40 years. I even paid for their storage for 10 years, now that was real smart money management. But if they can get $56 for the book, I might try to recoup some of the loss on my storage unit. And just think, I have 5 more besides.

Marianna,
Someone emailed me and ask if it was OK to wear a sundress and sandals to the party? Is that OK

Was it a he or she!

The yearbook didn't look like it was signed. Schools will buy extra books and store them for a number of years. Maybe it was somebody who worked at the school and is unloading it/them on e-bay. Remember the 1968 Pirate year book that was on e-bay for $125 a few years ago? I wrote in our Living Trust that our yearbooks were to be kept in the family, at least for one more generation, who knows what the grandkids will do (since I don't have any yet).

None of us Pirates are located directly within Phelan (site map).

Now, how are ya al' doin' with the bird flu outbreak? I am apprehensive about going to substitute tomorrow. I've avoided going to crowded places the last four days. Remember, I'm the only classmate living within the City of Los Angeles (across the street is Alhambra), but I'm counting the days before we relocate.

Terry Stringfield used to live in Phelan, but I understand he is in Oregon somewhere now. The only other classmates in that area are Jim Gandy and Sherry Lange. Both of them live in Victorville, which is close to Phelan. But neither of them went to Paramount Junior High.

Lorene, we never did get the snow that they were predicting. It's still been chilly, my brother got home safe to CA and called me and told me he wasn't coming back to Idaho until we had temps in the 70's for 4 days in a row. LOL he was happy to be back in flip flops and shorts.

Love all the chatter about the yearbooks, I was one of the people that loved taking my yearbook out and looking at it ever now and then. As I've said a few times before I lost my yearbooks in a house fire. :(

As far as this swine flu thing, I woke up with a sore throat two days ago and now my nose is running like crazy and I feel like ----. I'm sure it's just a bug I picked up at the place my mom is living now, as there were a few of them sick a couple of weeks ago.
I hope and pray that none of us has to deal with this new flu invading our country.

Everyone stay safe, take care, and don't forget to wash your hands. :)

Since there are no signatures in it my guess this was probably a yard sale find and someone decided to sell it on ebay....I know a few ebay sellers and they know exactly what sells, and yes they do yard sales for items to sell...from the price listed on this they knew what they were doing. Also if it says "buy it now" they could be a power sell which are the one who know exactly what sells...anyway pretty cool it just happen to be from my old school.....

I like Lynne have dug my books out over the years for a trip down memory lane I have a file box dedicated to my old treasurers...after this past reunion and referring back to the senior yearbook so much for the planning when we found people, then to verify if they are really a classmate, my plastic protector sheet finally fell apart...but I would never just give them away.....Mark I like your family trust idea....hummm I wonder who would want them anyway...

I have referred to my year books so much over the year the binding on my senior one is weak. Mine are kept in the living room under the coffee table. Don't want them to be to far away. LOL

I have my mom and dad's year book. I treasure it even tho' it doesn't even have pictures of them in it. It just had stuff that was going on their senior year. I found a note in from my dad telling my mom he would pick her up late.

I'm hoping it's a guy (talking about the sundress). Mark, I'm assuming that is what you were referring to in your last message. That would give us a lively discussion topic for the forum.

Well, the swine flu has hit Arizona. I just heard on the news that an elementary school in Phoenix is closed for the next seven days after a young boy tested positive for the swine flu. He is actually better now but was sick last week. I guess they are taking no chances.

Just wanted to jump in here and say - this event is totally casual - no formal attire - we are here to have some fun - so it's shorts, sun dresses, tank tops, moo-moos whatever your hearts desire.

Don't forget to bring your cameras and those of you taking pics please email them to me after the event. I will give you all more details when I see you in Vegas :)

June is almost here........

Marcia et all; Zoey has been sick since Sunday. Beth took her to the Dr. today when her fever spiked up again to 101. She has broncitis and was told not to go back to school until Monday, enough time to get over it properly. Beth was worried she would miss out on too much school. I told her..She's in first grade and they have only three weeks left, what can she possibly miss? Boy all I heard this week from Beth was ..do you think she has the swine flu, Mom? Whew!!! TMZ asked Paris Hilton what she thought of the swine flu breakout and was she worried about it.. she replied.."No I'm not worried, I don't eat pork". Oh help us mighty blonde god!!

Well when the sundress shows up you can find out who it was...I'll never tell

It's wonderful to live in an age where we have information so readily available to us, but this can also be a detriment, especially with our media who loves sensationalism. We just have to make sure that if we get flu symptoms to not do as I normally do and ignore them, but to see a doctor. Let's face it more people will die from car accidents then they will from the swine flu. So there you go, that's another thing we can worry about.

Carol...a sundress is fine...except for Pat, she is gonna wear a 'moo-moo'.

About 8 years ago went through Witchita, Kansas and looked up some relative(I'd never met). I went to East High School and the librarian was kind enough to let me look into their archives, yearbooks. Back in the 1930's my dad and family attended East High, I found some of them and was able to xerox the photos! I did the same thing with my uncle's yearbook at L.A. Poly High (his track photos). Keep your yearbooks for your grandchildren and who know, a 100 years from now a great-great-great grandchild might be looking through them. I believe in leaving parts of my "being" for future generations (hopeing it will be for their betterment).

I'm in the process of downloading photos I took at the reunion and mini-reunion for ya' al' to see.
Stay well, avoid places where people might spread the flu, like the doctor's office.
