Classmates (Lynne)...after just getting off of a 10 hour shift plus 1 1/2 hours of driving time, I did neglect to add Peggy's and my cell phone #'s to my prior post. I hope this didn't cause any confusion for anyone.

Carol,
Sounds like you will have a nice time. Our son Phil, DeAnna & Dillon are flying in tonight from Portland and will be with us until Tuesday nite. Looking forward to their visit. I've been pretty lucky he was here last month for a visit too. I think some kids still miss home no matter how old they get. He got a job offer to transfer here to Vegas and I think he might take it, anyway I sure hope so, we'll see.

To all our classmates and their families have a nice and safe holiday.

Yea! We are going to spend 4 great days in Carmel this week. I am so excited! I will meet up with Maurene too.

To those attending the Las Vegas party have a great time, take a lot of pictures to share with all of us.

It's been a crazy year, you get through it one step at a time.

Everyone have a wonderful time with family and friends this weekend as we remember the true meaning of Memorial Day and thank those who serve or who have served in our military.

Thank you to my father, George BuSteed, my father-in-law, Everett Householder, my mother-in-law, Millie Householder - May you all rest in peace and God Bless you! Thank you to our classmates who have served or who are serving in the military and to their family members who are serving or who have served in the military - Thank you for our freedom! God Bless America!

As Memorial Day approaches, it is time to pause and consider the true meaning of this holiday and reflection. Memorial Day represents one day of national awareness and reverence, honoring those Americans who died while defending our Nation and its values. While we should honor these heroes every day for the profound contribution they have made to securing our Nation's freedom, we should honor them especially on Memorial Day.

In this time of unprecedented success and prosperity throughout our land, all Americans come together to recognize how fortunate we are to live in freedom and to observe a universal ``National Moment of Remembrance'' on each Memorial Day. This memorial observance
represents a simple and unifying way to commemorate our history and honor the struggle to protect our freedoms.

Amen!

Oh my goodness, I forgot to thank my husband Roland Householder for his service during the Vietnam War. Thank you Roland for tireless efforts and time you gave to save our butts.

Roland was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam war. He often mentions that he wanted to go to Vietnam, while in Germany they asked everyone who wanted to go to Vietnam and who wanted to stay in Germany, well you can imagine, everyone who wanted to stay in Germany went to Vietnam and everyone to wanted to go to Vietnam stayed in Germany. Roland gets an aerie feeling, all of his buddies that went were killed, it haunts him to this day.

The Ramada Hotel in Laughlin (when it was there) had the most amazing tribute to the military. Each time we went, it brought tears to your eyes. As I looked over at my father and my husband, I saw how humble they both were and how proud it made them feel to be part of such an amazing history to our country.

Enjoy each other, enjoy your families and remember those who gave so much so that we could have freedom to live in peace.

Amen!

Lorene

"We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this."

and it wouldn't phase us to wipe the bottle top off with a hand or even the tail of a FILTHY T-SHIRT.

This got my memory working over time....

WE...

...hiked all over the desert and the hills surrounding our home in 29 Palms and only once almost stepped on a sidewinder. We'd been taught to FREEZE when we heard a rattle, and there he was under my dangling foot, where he'd been sunbating, not bothering anyone. I stepped back a few steps, SLOWLY, of course, and we went our separate ways. It was a while before I cut across that plot of land between our house and the bus stop.

...jumped off the roof playing paratrooper. So that's why my knees are bad.

...played war games in the Oasis in 29, only occasionally scaring the bejesus out of turists. The Park Rangers knew us and knew we were there and never gave us any hastles.

A special memory:
...when my cousins showed up with cherry bombs, my dad got into the act, creating a "depth charge" with a soda can. He dropped it in a big steele trash can filled with water. No movie like plume of water shooting up as he'd hoped, but a slight bulge them the seam splitting wide open and the water poring out.

When school ended in June we seldom wore shoes all summer. MAYBE flip flops. Had to be a big night out to wear real shoes. SHOES! We had the cheapest pair of tennies my dad could find, and they served all sports purposes and most other occasions.

Lorene, I also forgot to thank my wonderful dad who served in the US Navy and brother who served in Viet Nam.
Also, thank you to all of our classmates who served in our military, as well as their sons and daughters who are now serving. I still have my yellow ribbons on my tree with the US FLAG for, Jan Foster's son, Paula and Art's daughter, and Randy Farina's daughter. God Bless them All and bring them home safely.

Don, you really had some good stories about the old times.

As a Mom I think many of you will remember this, when we had our kids we were told to make sure they slept on their tummies, never put them on their backs. Now days it's never put them on their tummies always put them on their backs.
We didn't know what "Time Out" was back in those days, in my house it was a swift swat on the bottom or go to your room.
No helmets when we rode our bikes in the street, however I make sure all my grandkids now wear their helmets. :-0)

Oh the memories we can carry close to our hearts! And just think no one can ever take those away.

This is the first year since 1986 that we haven't had a family weekend of celebration out at the lake house. It's really very sad for all of us. It's our first real holiday without my mom there. Seems like no one wanted to deal with it as it was just to sad.

Have a safe weekend!
Lynne

Speaking of serving our country, at our work we put up a Wall of Commemoration honoring our emaployees and their families for their service. Every year the event gets bigger with displays of medals, pictures, name tags from their uniforms and honor awards and we even have a Purple Heart displayed. I have been on the committee for 2 years and there is just no way of explaining the feel when you are looking at all of those who have served. They have put me in charge of designing the displays what a wonderful feeling to show what we have.
It makes me proud too that this year we will display pictures of my father-in-law, Robert who is now a Retired Lt. Colonel/US Army, My husband, Stu, who served in the US Air Force, and our Son, Clint who is also in the Air Force, stationed in South Dakota and in his 7th year. We are so proud of him.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy Holiday Week-end,
We have our other son, Phil, DeAnna & Dillon who flew in last night from Portland to spend the week-end with us. We are a very blessed family.

Take Everyone
Peggy

This is an article I wrote for the local newspapers. I write something each month. I wasn't able to copy it, so I'm typing it in.
To Honor and Remember; Memorial Day

In today's world, with the daily struggle to keep from getting caught in the millstream of the economic crises along with all of the other facets of life that consumes our attention, most people give little thought to the meaning of Memorial Day. For most people, it's an occasion for a three day weekend. Some dedicated souls will venture to the annual parades, some will go to a veteran's memorial. Then there are those who contemplate with their heart and soul, the true meaning of Memorial Day.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday for us to remember soldiers killed in wars. The origins of Memorial Day go back to 1866 as a ceremony to honor soldiers killed in the American Civil War. Least we forget, Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember those who served in the military of the United States of American and were killed doing their duty.
For many Americans, everyday is a time to reflect and honor their loved ones who died in the course of duty, in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, Afghanistan. Those of us who served in a combat zone, I was in Vietnam, remember our friends that were killed. I think of one friend in particular, a young man who had a quiet demeanor and a friendly smile. His family never saw him get married, have children, graduate from college or grow to become an old man. They will never share BBQ's or holidays with him. In the movie :Saving Private Ryan", in present time, Ryan is at the gravesite of Captain Miller, the man who was sent to take Ryan home and who was killed. Captain Millers last words are to Ryan, "Earn it." Back to present time, the elderly veteran asks his wife to confirm that he has a led a good life and that he is a "good man", and thus worthy of Miller's and the others' sacrifice. How then can we honor our fallen soldiers? We can honor them by making this a better world, everyday. To treat others with respect, to be honest, to be responsible citizens, and to be loyal to the concepts of liberty and freedom.
=========================================================

God Bless all of you and those that you love.
Mark
