This arrives a bit late, but the impact is not lessened. Jim was a great team mate, and a terrific classmate. Farewell, Friend. Great leader.

Good to hear about you. I still have fond memories of our basketball team in our junior year. Speaking of people on the team, the only person that I have seen since Paris is George Taylor. In 1970, I was in Vietnam as an advisor to the Vietnamese Infantry. My boss wanted me to take a few days off and suggested Saigon. I was sitting at an outdoor cafe and low and behold, George walked by. Needless to say, George and I got together over the next few days and turned out he was flying helicopters for Air America (CIA?) Never saw him again.
Bob, I had no idea you had a similar experience to mine at the Place de l'Étoile. I had a red Vespa; its centre of gravity was skewed engine-side, I'm sure you know. I wiped out on those wet cobbles once. Haven't any idea how I survived that. Got rid of that unstable machine.
Elsewhere, I am quite impressed with your career, congratulations. Substantiates my recollection of the calibre of my classmates. And thanks for giving time in Viet Nam. However one comes down at this remove on the wisdom of our presence there, anyone who did time there sacrificed for all of us.

Paul, I remember mostly what a good friend you were at every turn. About basketball, it always seemed something of a disappointment that Frankfurt abandoned man-to-man defense against us; coach Strehla's offensive plays had them back on their heels immediately. Guess I can reveal it here for the first time ever: I played also on a French team that went on to play in the championship of France. We lost to a lesser team in two overtimes, due to the officiating (an American wasn't welcome at those levels). We met that team later in a round robin and killed them 72-16 (true story). Hope you're well.
Thanks, nice welcome from all of you. Randy, I always look back in wonder at that brief moment where we learned how to pitch and catch at a different level from those around us. Wish that we could have gone on to play American Legion ball, but they disbanded before we got there ...

Nice to be here with all of you. I note with sadness that the Castleberry brothers are now deceased. Jim Castleberry was my inspiration in basketball; with him, everything seemed possible ...
