Dr. D. Rich Hollist, 50, owner of Southmoor Veterninary Clinic in Fountain, CO, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2006 at his home, due to heart complications. Rich was born on May 13, 1955 in Brigham City, Utah to William D. Hollist, Jr., and Shirley Penton. He married Jerilynn Beecher on November 30, 1976 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Rich received his doctorate of veterinarian medicine from Colorado State University in 1987. In the first 11 years of his veterinarian career, he lived in New Hampshire and worked at Windham Veterinary Hospital. In 1998, he then moved to Colorado Springs where he worked at the Southern Animal Emergency Care Center, and also worked at a spay and neuter clinic in Pueblo. He took over Southmoor Veterinary Clinic nearly three years ago as owner, and still found time to write for The Gazette and Fountain Valley News as the "Ask The Vet" columnist. He was an active member of his church, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He had served on a church mission to Calgary, Alberta Canada in 1974-1976, and continued to be an active member by serving in many church positions. Rich is survived by his wife, Jerilynn; two daughters: Natalie Hollist of Seratoga, CA and Kristy Peterson (Joe) of Colorado Springs; and two sons: Pfc. Ryan Hollist of Fort Hood, TX and Eric Hollist of Colorado Springs, who is currently serving a church mission in San Paulo, Brazil; a grandson, Corban Peterson, 22 months old; a brother, J. Penton Hollist (Julie) of Provo, Utah, who are currently serving in a church mission in Melbourne, Australia; and a sister, Nanette Child (Don) of Layton, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Ladd Hollist (who is survived by his wife, Marleen) of Oren, Utah. Funeral services were held on January 21, 2006 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
