Beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, Alan Bernett Shelby passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, February 4, 1996.

Born January 19, 1953, in Cedar City, Utah, to Boyd Lenard Shelby and Arvilla Colleen Swindlehurst. Married Theresa Ann Lund on July 29, 1975 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Attended school in Salt Lake City and Laketown, Utah. Also attended BYU and U of U.  Commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army in 1976. He served as captain in the National Guard, 144th Evacuation Hospital and 128th Public Affairs Detachment.

Alan became a realtor in 1977 and enjoyed a continuous career selling and developing residential subdivisions. He was a member of the Million Dollar Club.  He was general partner in Sunbird Real Estate, Frandsen and Shelby R. E. & Development, owner Shelby & Company, partner Monarch Development.

Alan was a black belt in karate, a drummer, enjoyed the out-of-doors, powder skiing, hiking, skydiving, camping, fishing and golf. A member of the LDS Church, he served in the Canada-Calgary Mission 1972-74. Bishopric and high councilor, youth leader Salt Lake Jordan North Stake. Most recently served youth of the Brighton 2nd Ward. Basketball coach extraordinaire, and was the life of girls camp.

He was an inspiration to others, able to buoy up their spirits and serve in the midst of his own pain and suffering. He was a devoted friend and a champion of all people, a neighbor with a smile and a snow plow. A selfless person, from a tool to his car; what was his was yours. He was a credit to his family through his many accomplishments. He will be sorely missed. We thank the Lord that he is free from pain and with loved ones gone before.

Survived by his devoted wife Theresa; daughters, Alesa, Dana, Jenelle, Katie, all of Salt Lake; parents, Boyd and Colleen Shelby of Bear Lake, Utah and Mesa, Arizona; Helen L. Lund of Alta, Utah; brothers, Gregory B. of Portland, Oregon, and Todd L. of Layton, Shelby; sister, Catherine S. Hale of Draper; 14 nieces and nephews; and many special friends that he considered family.

Funeral services were held February 7, 1996. Interment is in Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery.
