I have worked many jobs from grocery store, truck driver, investment broker, real estate broker/investor, math teacher, just to name a few.

I have travel as much as I can. The last 15 years a lot of the travel has been by motorcycle (225,000+ miles). In 2019 I rode to the Arctic Ocean.
My first motorcycle (145,000 miles) took me to 49 states and all Canadian provinces/territories with roads except Newfoundland/Labrador. I plan to ride up there this summer by way of the Trans Labrador Highway.

The Iron Butt Association is a long distance motorcycle group that I belong to. I have about 50 of their rides certified.

The Wife does not ride but we do travel a lot together by car.

School Story

January of my senior year we arrived in K-town. However, people arriving from France after de Gaulle kicked out the US had housing priority over my low ranking dad. However, I had already enrolled at KAHS when we were given quarters in Baumholder, an hour away back then. My dad remained assigned to K-town. I attended KAHS 3 days.

I enrolled at BAHS the next week. It actually turned out well for me. I got a job right away working for the European Exchange System, bought a car, and made friends the first day. The summer after graduation I drove truck for EES.

I know it is often called the "arm pit" but I liked it. Of course I did make the most of my stay there and I was an 18 year old dependent thus not in the military.

My family was moved back to K-town the summer after graduation and I went to U of Maryland, Munich Campus.

When and where were you a brat outside the United States?

1967 K-town HS for 3 days, 1967 Baumholder graduated 1967, 1967-1969 University of Maryland, Munich Campus

Have you been to a Gathering or Homecoming?

Yes

Do you have a memory that could have only happened because of where you were?

Many, Many, Many

We were in Germany less than 3 year but lived in 5 quarters in 3 towns.

I learned to embrace other cultures. There are a lot of good people everywhere, and some A holes.

My dad was a very low ranking NCO so I needed a job to continue my life style I had in the US. I got a job as soon as I arrived in Baumholder and another one in Munich. I was fortunate enough to buy a car. I had one in the US so why not in Germany. From then on I spent any extra money on travel.

I drove to London via ferry, Athens via Yugoslavia, drove to many ski slopes in Germany and Austria. I visited Berlin twice to see friends, once by duty train and once by plane. I visited, what is now, 21 countries while living in Germany those three years.

I could never had done these things without being an Army Brat. Being an Brat has made me what I am today. I am definitely a better person and more successful today than i would have been without the experience.

The dreaded question...Where are you from?

Near Cincinnati (12yrs), Lawton, Oklahoma (35yrs total), Near Dallas TX (27yrs))

Do you have a favorite place where you ever lived? What made it special to you?

Munich, Germany: I had a job, went to two years of college with very interesting professors, & traveled extensively. I was living a dream. I would not trade those years for anything

Have you been back to visit any place you lived growing up overseas?

I made it to Munich after touring the Normandy beaches on June 6, 2019.
I got to see one of the apartment buildings we lived in, McGraw Kaserne where U of M was, and another housing area. Of course I visited several beer halls that I frequented back in "the day".

My dad had been transferred to Munich soon after I started college. I had more freedom living at home than I did in the dorm. We lived in three different places (not counting the dorm or my room on the economy) as a family while there. I lived in the Dixon Dorm for a few weeks then got a room near McGraw before the family moved to Munich.

Did you live (not just visit) in...

Europe
