Graduated from TAS in '68. Joined the Navy after Junior year and passed my GED in '68 while stationed in Japan. Continued my Navy career to retire in Oct '90 after 23.5 years. Retired as RMC(SW), Chief Radioman and Technical Control Supervisor (2319 NEC) (Surface Warefare Specialist/Enlisted/ Qualified). Went to work in Vallejo, CA as a project manager for a Navy Gov Contractor installing and repairing communications equipment onboard Navy and Coast Guard ships. Did this till the company, RCI (Resource Consultants, INC) moved down to San Diego, CA. I had just bought a house and didn't want to go back to San Diego. So the next 5 yrs was a mixed bag of jobs. Couple yrs with the Cal Highway Patrol as dispatcher, Couple yrs longhall trucker, then couple yrs with the Post Office. While at P.O., my mom got sick so I got the P.O. to transfer me to Washington. Mom got better and left P.O. to drive school bus. Loved it and did that till I retired from driving Military Dependant Kids at Ft. Lewis and McCord AFB to and from thier school. After 20 yrs of that, I am now fully retired.

School Story

Was in DOD schools from '59 - '63 in Paris Amer Sch, '63'64 school yr at Patton JH (DOD sch) on Ft Leavenworth, KS, '64'65 school yr at DuPont JH, DuPont, WA, '65-'67 school yrs at Tehran AmerSch, Tehran, Iran. Once we got back to the states, Ft. Leavenworth, KS again, my Dad swore me into the Navy in Kansas City and the start of my Naval Career.

When and where were you a brat outside the United States?

See "Comments" and "School Story" above.

Have you been to a Gathering or Homecoming?

Yes

Do you have a memory that could have only happened because of where you were?

Military personnel were not allowed to drive in Tehran, Iran. Each family was assigned a vehicle and a driver. The exchange and commissary were on the U.S. Embassy compound so we had to coordinate with Transportation and the military compound to get a driver and vehicle for arrands.

The dreaded question...Where are you from?

I was born at the Military Hospital at Ft. Belvoir, VA.

Do you have a favorite place where you ever lived? What made it special to you?

I would have to say the 3 yrs in Paris, France. I lived in a U.S. Gov compound with about 20 or 30 3 story Apt buildings of at least 3-4 stairwells each. We had a 3 bedroom apartment. The compound was called Petit Beauregard. The teen club was across the street to the right and the PX and Commissary w/snackbar, complex was straight across the street from there.
We were always out exploring the surrounding area of Paris, going on pickniks in the country side or visiting museums and site seeing Paris all over. Just too beautiful. Loved Paris.

Have you been back to visit any place you lived growing up overseas?

No, but my Wife and I are in the middle of planning our Paris vacation for October. Train from Seattle to NYC. Catch the Queen Mary II to Portsmouth, UK. Drive to London and catch the train through the Chunnel to Paris. In Paris for 5 days then train to Le Harve to catch the Queen Mary II back to NYC. Catch train back to Seattle. YeeHaa. Yippy Skippy.

Did you live (not just visit) in...

Canada
Europe
Far East
Middle East
Africa
Other locations outside CONUS
