I was very sad to hear of Alette's passing from leukemia and found this from Chico State Alums in Memoriam to share.

I am also very sorry to hear of Alette's passing. She had such a kind heart. She invited me to participate in her Campfire Girl Group. I will never forget that day. It meant so much to me to be included. My sympathy to her lovely family. Dyane Silva Janney

I am shocked. I became friendly with Alette when we both went to ASU our first year of college. I have great memories of riding around in her red sportscar convertible. I remember a few of us rode up to the Grand Canyon in a couple sportscars. She was a kind and fun person. A very sad loss. My heart goes out to her family and close friends.

I always loved that Alette got her name from her parents combining parts of their names to get hers. I visited Alette in Durham several times. She loved teaching elementary school and her memorial service had a lot of teachers and former students to testify to her wonderful talent working with children. She adored animals and had horses in her back yard. She belonged to organizations that supported and worked towards world peace. I always loved Alette because she was always so nice to me in high school. She was in my Camp Fire group so we got to do lots of amazing things together. I was a small, gangly, immature kid and she always made me feel like I was her friend and she was kind to everyone. Ann Burdett, JoAnne Jenkins and I sang Burn Fire Burn and did the hand motions at her memorial service. Alette and our whole group had sang that so many times together. Her husband Tom is also a teacher and a wonderful guy and her two daughters are just beautiful like she was. We miss you Alette. Love, Marsha Roby

I'm stunned and so very sad. Alette and I go back to the absolute beginning...as newborns our houses were back-to-back in San Carlos. My family moved a lot and our parents finally re-connected when we were about 10 years old and she was still "Debbie." I witnessed some of her lobbying her folks, Al and Lunette, to let her take on the name Alette.

We said hello at the 30th reunion. Had I been able to attend the 40th I certainly would have looked...in vain, it seems...for her.
