BD, you're slipping. That is Stanly Harrison standing by Ken. I remember that Richard Pryor didn't show up 'till 4th grade!

Mike - How can you see those pictures well enough to make those guesses? I know I was in the choir and I KNOW I was always on the top row, so I'm sure you were right at least once! Good work (and good eyes). Becky

Here's another trivia question. Does anyone remember what Lonnie Watson wrote on the border of Mrs. Gravitt's test? I think we were juniors or seniors. Lonnie do you remember? I think you were going to erase it but forgot.

I wish somebody would answer the above question. I would truly like to know what he wrote on the paper!!!!
I can just imagine it was of the "off-color" nature.

Lonnie had a catch phrase for nearly all situations. Dang if I can remember any though.

Hey folks,

If you have reserved your room in Lubbock at the Hampton Inn, please e-mail me or post a note on the forum. They have a new manager and I am trying to verify their list to avoid any last minute suprises.

Thanks to Buttons, Marcia (Inglis) and Ka for already letting me know.

Thanks for your help.

Mike

Looks like we're going to skip Spring and go straight into Summer! It was really warm in most of Texas today!

Ya'll see that Tulia made the national news last Thursday? They recorded 5.38 inches of rain. They also had pea size hail piled up for 4 days. I was up there last Friday on my bike (of course) and all the creeks and ponds are overflowing. Some buildings are really damaged from the weight of all the hail.

Ka Hughes (Wilfong)

Hey, Fred, you should have been here on Thursday. I stood for 5 hours watching my breakfast nook area. I have all glass and 2 sky lights in there. I was really expecting a flood in my kitchen. We were lucky and did not take in any water.

I really think that we received 8 inches in some areas. Our gauge goes to 6 and it was totally overflowing with a little area not marked.

I like it when the Vigo road lake is full. Maybe now everything will turn green.

I moved here in '65 and I have never seen a rain and hail like that.

MammaKa, dear, mind you I am not trying to be critical or rude, but what or where is one's "breakfast (nook) area" and in what position must one stand to be able to comfortably watch it for 5 hours? Enlighten us please!

Lonny Watson

It was in Mrs. Cunningham's class, it was not something to repeat in mixed company and Mr. Pollard could not see the humor in it.

He gave me a choice of licks or a 3 day suspension. Being the brave guy I was, I chose the 3 days. As luck would have it, I was spotted by my Dad before I could develop a plan to hide out.

He then "requested" that I return to school with him and we met with Mr. Pollard. I was not invited to participate in their conversation during which Dad informed Mr. Pollard that I changed my mind and wanted to take the licks if Mr. Pollard would graciously allow my early return from suspension.

Dad also told Mr. Pollard that he was there to ensure that the licks were "good ones". Their definitions of "good ones" turned out to be quite different from mine.

Lesson learned.

P.S. I did mean to erase it, but Mr. Pollard wasn't going for it.

Lonny, I was hoping you would share your genious thoughts that were expressed on your paper. Oh, well, maybe you can write them for us in Lubbock.

Big Dad,
Let's see, a breakfast nook, is a small area where most common people eat their first meal of the day and enjoy the glorious sunshine in their face. The walls are usually constructed with glass and very little sheetrock.
It also has sky lights that let in even more sun light overhead. The view would be that of your pool and hot tub with the water fall running and causing a very relaxing atmosphere.
But, you know what? With all that sun coming in the windows, we very rarely sit in there to eat. It is just too warm. I would rather be out on the VERANDA enjoying my breakfast. Any more questions?

Just one....How do you stand and look at it for 5 hours? I can't even SIT looking at anything for more than 10 minutes. Do you put yourself into a trance? You're not into some weird kind of yoga are ya'? HUUUMMMMMMM

04/24/09 12:05 AM #314

Ka Hughes (Wilfong)

No, no yoga. If it is raining and hailing at the same time, and coming from out of the east, that is when our sky lights or roof or windows pick to leak. Trust me, I was going to be there on Thursday of last week to catch the first drop of water that fell. I wanted to be able to prove to the ins. adjuster just exactly where and how the water was getting in. Well, guess what? Everybody else in town, just about, took in water. I did not have a drop. I couldn't believe it. Oh, well, how do you figure that? Maybe it knew I was watching!!!!

Jann Cawthon (Webb)

Big Daddy, did ya'll get any broken windows from the hail? I was out of town, but Dad said it covered our backyard like snow. We probably have roof damage - yay! I love to roof! Just kidding! I hate it, though I have helped my ex do plenty of roofs. I do think that is what they do in hell all day and night!

Thanks for posting that 3rd grade picture. It brought up some post traumatic stress I had just recovered from being flunked at of choir at the young age 8. Just recovered fully last year. So now I must go to med cabinet and find the Viagra; wait that must call for Valium. I forget; think I will just take both.
Best wishes

Yeah, who says elementary school memories are happy ones? LOL!

04/26/09 10:39 PM #318

Ka Hughes (Wilfong)

Ron, maybe you had better stay out of the medicine cabinet since you can't tell the difference between "viagra" and "valium". Hope you continue getting over being ejected from choir. Sorry, to hear such bad news.

Hey Ron,

You weren't the only one that hated those music classes. I don't have a music note anywhere in my body. I would get thru those classes by lip-synthetic, this was before it became an art form. I was only called on it one time by someone in the class. My thought was it was better to fake it than open up with a collection of sour notes and receive everyones looks.

Hey Henthorn, I met an IBM retired guy living in NM, with a young Indian wife. This guy looked like he just stepped out of a Louis L'mour Sackett book, can't remember his name, but had some good visits with him while I was in Albuquerque.

The only thing I remember about choir was Mr. Wynn hitting me on the head with his paddle (unjustified or course!)in the Third Grade.

I pretty sure that's what ended my musical career and started dreams of becoming an Astronaut!

Hey Hall! Good to hear from you. I just finished a really good book about Delta Force in which your name was mentioned. You obviously are well respected among that elite group. Thank you for your service!! After reading about what you had to go through just to get in that group, I have a new respect for you and the men you served with. You are one tough biscuit!!

I hope you can remember the name of the IBMer you met in Albq. Seems a lot of the guys I worked with fled to the mountains of NM when they retired. Most of 'em are dressed up like cowboys. Several of 'em married squaws. All of 'em let the 8 or 10 white hairs left on their heads grow to about a foot long then wove them into a pony tail. It's hard to spot 'em because so many guys in New Mexico fit that description. Most of these old friends don't speak in complete sentences anymore and spend plenty of time idly reflecting over the wisps of smoke from their "peace" pipes. Let me know if you remember his name.....he might owe me money.

Look forward to seeing you in July.

Finally, a chance to see what y'all are yakkin' about! Too much rain equals vacation from pasture work! Yay! BD and TH, I want to hear more about the Delta Force! What is the name of the book?

04/29/09 10:31 PM #324

Michael Henthorn

Welcome Back AL!! The book is "Never Surrender" by General Jerry Boykin. It was primarily about his military career and his life with Delta. TH, could you let us know if he was the real deal or not? The media apparently tried to ruin him when he went to the Pentagon. The real story reveals what one reporter with a vendetta can do to someone when they have the liberal media behind them. Anyway, it's a good read.

I am reading another one now called "Kill Bin Laden" by Dalton Fury who was another Delta commander. It is his account (as much as is unclassified) of what happened at Tora Bora. They had Bin Laden in their sights and were apparently called off at the last second. It is a difficult read, so I am not through it yet. I will post a review before the reunion.

AL, how did the Buckaroo Ball go? Are you going to slow down for a little while?
