Porter Lee Adams, 74, died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. Porter was born on January 2, 1946 in Orlando, Florida to the late Grady M. Adams and Nellie Sue Champion Adams. He graduated high school in 1964, served his country in the United States Army Reserve, and was a successful businessman and faithful friend. Porter was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Ann; his son Grady Lee Adams, of Clermont, Florida; and his sister, Mary Helen Adams (Dennis) of Dothan, Alabama. Porter is survived by his half brother, Bobby Armstrong of Hartford, Alabama, several nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friends, Frank Giaimo, Bo Powell and Jack McCloud. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Winter Garden Florida on Saturday, July 18 at 2pm.

It is with great sadness that we report the loss of Gene Moorman (Class of '63), husband of classmate Elaine Lechowicz, on Sunday. He had been recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and had just started chemotherapy. Viewing will be on Friday, June 19, at 10:00 AM with services following at 11:00 AM at Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home (old Loomis Funeral Home), 428 E. Plant Street, Winter Garden.

Hutchinson, Wynell Mrs. Wynell Smith Hutchinson, 67, of Clermont, FL,

passed away on June 02, 2013. Born August 18, 1945 in Waycross, Georgia.

Mrs. Hutchinson was a custodian for 30 years at Tildenville Elementary in

Winter Garden when she retired in 2012. She was preceded in death by her

husband Herman and her brother David Smith. She is survived by her Sons

James Hutchinson, Gary Hutchinson (Connie), and Darren Hutchinson (Kerri),

grandchildren Amanda Hutchinson (Robert Cooper), Kalynn Hancock (Shawn),

Briley Hutchinson, Lindsey Hutchinson, Faith Hutchinson and Cole Hutchinson,

SHEAROUSE, SANDRA L. of Winter Park died Friday, July 2, at Winter Park Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Millard and Mae Shearouse of Tampa. "Sandy", as she was known by her friends, was born Oct 11, 1934 in Savannah, GA, was a graduate of Stetson University and taught science at Glen Ridge Jr High School for many years. She was a member of the Dubsdread Golf Assn and was a past president. Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Jack Patterson of Stafford, VA; three nephews, Jack, Jr., Jeff and Scott Patterson and a niece,
Kimbra Benson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Orlando Humane Society, which was favored by Sandy. A memorial service will be held at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, 7520 Aloma Ave at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 8.

In Memoriam

Vernon E. Parrish, our former teacher and friend has passed away. His obituary is in the Orlando Sentinel today- April 27. A funeral is being planned for next Saturday, May 5 at 2pm at the First United Methodist Church, 125 Lakeview Avenue, Winter Garden. Our condolences go to his family- his wife, Dot, daughter Judy, son Steve.

PARRISH, VERNON EDGAR, educator, avid golfer, angler, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend gently passed away in Windermere, FL on April 23, 2012. He was born one of nine children in Baxley, GA on September 21, 1924. Soon after, as a child Vernon moved with his family to central Florida, where he lived the rest of his life. In 1941, after graduating from Orlando High School, Vernon joined the US military as a paratrooper. He saw action during WWII in the Philippines and was with the US army of occupation in Japan after the war. Using his GI Bill benefits, Vernon next set his eyes on an education. With his new wife and their two small children, Vernon went to Gainesville and U of F where he received a Bachelors and Masters' degree in Education in 1950. Vernon moved on to educate children for the next 30 years. Dorothy Evelyn (Bumby) Parrish, his great love and his wife helped him create a life in the West Orange County town of Winter Garden where Vernon taught English at Lakeview High School as well as sponsored numerous clubs and events. During the summer, he taught swimming at the community pool and lifeguarded as well. Though teaching was his first love, Vernon eventually went into public school administration. From the position of guidance counselor, he became an assistant principal at Colonial High, the Principal of Walker Middle School, Boone High School, and finally Lockhart Middle School. Vernon retired in 1980 to his home in Windermere, Fl. where fished for bass and perch in his beloved "chain of Lakes" and golfed with his friends in Winter Garden. Vernon is survived by his sister Jonnie Melba Carson; his beloved wife of 67 years Dorothy; his son John Stephen Parrish; his daughter Judith Evelyn Boyte; and three grandchildren, Rob, Dana and Jon as well as a one great-granddaughter, Peyton. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Winter Garden located at 125 N. Lakeview Ave. in Winter Garden FL. Final disposition is being handled by the Ocoee Family Funeral Home of Ocoee, FL

Our condolences go to the Cappleman Family

We learned earlier this week that Helen Cappleman passed away after her brave struggle with cancer. She lived in Charlotte, NC and some of us got to see her at last year's LHS Reunion. A Memorial Service will be held on October 29 at 12 noon at the First United Methodist Church in Winter Garden.

Although Helen was a few years younger than those of us in the Class of '64-- she was like a little sister to many all through our high school years-- she will be missed.

Dr. Helen Grace Cappleman

Dr. Helen Grace Cappleman CHARLOTTE - Dr. Helen Grace Cappleman will be remembered by all who knew her as a woman who had a full heart for the people and causes she cherished. Helen was especially gifted in teaching children to read and write. Her knowledge of and love for children's literature opened the door to a life-long love of reading for countless children, often by first opening that door for a host of teachers of children. Dr. Cappleman died at her home in Charlotte on October 16, 2012, at age 64. Helen Cappleman was born on August 25, 1948, to Virginia Brown and William Franklin Cappleman, Jr, of Winter Garden, Florida. She was educated at local schools before attending Wesleyan College, Macon, GA, and graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill. She earned a Masters and a PhD in Education from Duke University. Helen was an original author and coordinator of the whole language instruction program, Success in Reading and Writing. After teaching at Queens College, Charlotte, Helen worked for twenty years as a consultant to school systems across the country, promoting the Success program and organizing numerous workshops for teachers. She was also the author of Jumpstart, a literacy program she developed for the U. S. Job Corps. Since 2002, she was employed by the Clover, SC School District, first as the District Curriculum Coordinator, then as a fifth grade classroom teacher. She is survived by her siblings: Dr. William Cappleman and wife Mary, Charlotte; Mary Zahl and husband Paul, and Dr. John Cappleman and wife Kay, of Winter Garden, Florida; nine nieces and nephews; and a growing number of great-nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed as a devoted sister and aunt. In addition to her remarkable career as an educator, Helen's loves included traveling with friends; the Gingercake Community near Jonas Ridge, NC; Lake Butler in Windermere, FL; and the Democratic Party. She will be remembered as an inspiration to many for her indomitable spirit in the face of her cancer diagnosis. On Helen's behalf, the family wishes to thank Dr. Reza Nazemzadeh, Allyson Cox RN, and all of the staff of the Levine Cancer Institute. And most importantly, her faithful friends, who provided loving care and comfort for Helen over the last several months. A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Winter Garden, FL, at noon on Monday, October 29th. A memorial service will be held in the Francis Chapel of Myers Park United Methodist Church, Charlotte, at 11 am on Saturday, November 17th. HULL, ROBERT MITCHELL, 63, passed on Thursday, February 7, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Orlando, FL, on July 31, 1949, to H. S. (Buck) and Zelda R. Hull. He graduated Lakeview High School, Winter Garden, FL. Mitchell was left paralyzed over 40 years ago after an automobile accident while attending Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. He went on to receive his Bachelors Degree in Computer Science at WCU. In 1992, Mitchell received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the WCU Alumni Association. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Mitchell worked at Florida Power Corporation for 29 years and through his achievements obtained the position of Director of Research and Planning, Information Technology Department. At the time of his passing he was an Operations Manager for Verizon. Preceded in death by his father, H. S. (Buck) Hull; survived by his mother Zelda R. Hull; sisters, Lynda H. Sossamon (Boyd), and April H. Shepherd (Will); nephew, Jordan Robert Shepherd; nieces, Jillian and
Caitlin Shepherd; his friend and companion of 30 years, Rick
Coffey. A Celebration of Mitchell's Life will be held Sunday, February 17, at 2 pm, at the Oakland Presbyterian Church, 218 East Oakland Avenue, Oakland, FL. In Memory of Hal Donahey's Mother:

DONAHEY, GRETCHEN K., age 94, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013, in Winter Park, Florida. She was born on June 3, 1918, in Brookings, Oregon, to Andrew and Alice Konnerth. She was one of three children with a surviving brother, Andrew Konnerth of New Orleans, LA. She married Hal B. Donahey Sr., in 1945, and they were married for 43 years before his passing in 1988. They had one son, Hal B. Donahey Jr. (Jane). She is also survived by 3 grandsons, Shawn (Donella), Steven (Melinda) and Jason (Brooke), 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Gretchen worked as a secretary in the insurance industry for over 30 years. She was a member of; The Daughters of the King, Order of the Eastern Star, and VFW Auxiliary. She attended the Church of the Messiah, in Winter Garden. She will be missed by all those who knew her. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 16th at 10:00 am at the Church of the Messiah in Winter Garden.
