Leslie After reading some of your posts I think you should skip the book and go straight to making a movie. The rating I will leave up to you. LOL

Hey Tom, I was wondering if you were sharing any of the E-Mail I've sent you with Summy or the Music Pirate Grabbe. Some of them are really too good not to share.

Leslie I thought you were sending those e-mails to everyone ? Are saying I am special ??? Can't talk publicly about any of the subjects Summytime mentioned....will message you this weekend if you wanna know the scoop on our escapdes. (I sit at home on Saturday nights in my bedroom with nothing to do anyhow.Just call me Mr. Lonely I didn't want to do any of those things over the years, Summyingston twisted my arm and made me !!! I would have preferred to have spent a quite evening at home. Hi Kathy I'm so glad to see you participating at the message board again. I was concerned. Hadn't seen you here for awhile.. Johnny Gregg.....a true politician.....use to come in the old Dutchman Tavern and buy us all drinks. He knew how to "buy" the Kraut Town vote !! LOL Summy, Summy, Summy..... I'm a gettin' the fever again....but, we're too damn old. Even Rose Marie would probably laugh at us. And Polly has most likely passed on. The hearst, isn't it correctly pronounced hearse ? The vehicle they haul deceased dudes in. Yes, recall it vividly ! Wasn't Steve "Cabbage" Lee driving Barnes' hearse that trip to Indy ? We sure impressed Rose Marie with our mighty fancy car, we was a drivin'. Camel ?? Is that the stuffed critter that you were on stage with at The Roost ? I have tons of old pics from NHRA Nationals. Some also from Turkey Trot Festival and of course, the Mike Summers' QUARTER CENTURY FESTIVAL !!!!. Say the word and I'll post them here ??? I think the Goobler's Roost is gone...as in tore down (excuse me while I wipe the tears from my eyes). Believe, we stopped in to checkout Fanny's Place, also...on southside... on US 31. It a wonder, with our loud, rowdy ways, some big mean SOB didn't kick our butts much like the night across the river at Hank's ! Remember at Indy 500 in '72, we saw Mario Andretti at the pizza place there at 34th & Georgetown Road ? We were in line to get in the race next morning at that intersection...stuck there all night long. Partied in the "Snake Pit" that day. Believe that was the race Mike Telligman found me asleep in the restroom.

By the way Summy, let me set the record straight on the supposedly falling in the meat case at the Clermont IGA. I was only trying to get a better look at the selection of fine quality meats.

Tom, come on now of course you're "special" my first real boyfriend, well wait a minute I think Jeff Lynn and Mike Decoursey were the first. In fact I can still remember years later Martha DeCoursey (Mike's Mother) telling me that Mike use to come home from school and tell her that he "woved Weswie Jones" But then we never kissed under a blanket or held hands in the balcony at the New Moon Theatre and most of all they never gave me the "Ultimate Valentine" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have forwarded some E-Mail to Rich and Lu but they gave me their E-Mail address. Be honest now I sent ya some cool E-Mail.

As it stands right now I'm planning to head back to Vegas this weekend. I have a terrible cold and that may change my plans, we'll see. I can drive it in about 20 hours and the funniest part of that is it takes me 14-15 hours just to get out of Texas.

Ruth I'm generating positive vibes and lots of prayers for Neva.

Hey Leslie I am waiting for your book to come out. That should be some very interesting reading. Usually I read to get sleepy at night, but I believe that your book would keep me up!

Just to let everyone know, I am home today and not working. The airplane that just went down in the Hudson is the plane I fly. I am trying to find out who was flying that flight today, but the computers have been locked out since the accident and I cannot access them from home. I am hearing everyone got out. I am keeping my fingers crossed. More later.

Glad to hear you are safe. Quite ironic, that pilot used to fly Phantoms.

Rich,

Let me weigh in with the others. It is good to hear you are safe. Based upon what I have read in the news, the crew did an outstanding responding to the emergency and saving the flight. Great Job whomever they are!

Dick, Hey...I just got home from the Jr. High basketball game at E-port about 8:00. I had heard the news at the game. When they told me destination was Charlotte, I got a sick feeling in my stomach. I feel better now. BTW, we had Vinc. Clark beat until the final two minutes. Missed about 10 easy shots under basket and blew it ! "The Bullet" played a good game.

WOW Rich! I missed this. What happened? Glad you are safe and sound.

Kathy, thank you for trying to inject something noteworthy to this forum (i.e. John Gregg). lol John's a great guy. I'd like to read his book. My favorite picture of him from our high school days is in our 1970 Totem on page 14. (PS. Nice shots of Dan Roark, others on same page.)

Speaking of books, Leslie, please send me an autographed copy when you publish. Thanks. Are you back in Las Vegas? How cold is it wherever you are? We are in a DEEP FREEZE here.

Jean Ann Miller (Schroeder)

Dick, I had a sick feeling also, when I heard the flight was a US Air Jet. Glad to hear you and everyone else are safe. Bill has an autographed copy of John Gregg's book, but has not read it yet. I think he is planning to read it when we go to Florida in a couple of weeks. (To escape this frigid weather!!!!!!) Leslie You better get busy on that book!!! I think several people would enjoy reading about your adventures!!!! When you are famous, remember the Class of 70! LOL

Thanks for everyone's concern. I have flown that airplane many times over the last 10 years. I still have not heard who the First Officer was, but the Captain is nicknamed "Sully". I don't know him well, but he was an upperclassman in my squadron at the Air Force Academy. He was a Junior or 2nd classman when I was a Freshman. He was tough as an upperclassmen to the Freshmen and I probably did more than my share of pushups for him. I saw him a few years ago getting off the plane that I was taking out. Even after 30 some years, I still almost felt like a 4th class cadet again. He asked me if he had been tough as an upperclassman. I didn't have the heart to tell him he was one of the most feared. He is a great guy though and every co-pilot I fly with enjoys flying with him. Today, he did a great job. I only hope I could have performed as well.

Hey everybody! Wow, I had a lot of catching up to do reading all the postings! Rich, I was also very concerned when I saw the news about the plane in the river...I was so hoping it wasn't you but also thinking you would have been a good one to have flying in that situation...by the way, is that cutie with the hula hoop you? Now I am going to go back and read the last week or two of postings again...I think I missed some really good stuff! (You missed nothing in the posts last week, other than the posts of two morons....remembering their escapdes of 35 years ago !!) Tom

DICK, I have a question. If the plane went down because it sucked a flock of birds into the engine, then why is there no screen (for lack of a better word) to protect the engines ? Alarm clock getting ready to go off.....gotta go to work. Whoooooooooo...it's -4 degrees here !!!! I will await your answer to my question tonight.

Kathy Diane Dunn (Steele)

Rich,
Watched the television coverage of the plane crash and wondered if this was your flight. Once they named the pilot and that everyone was rescued, it was quite a relief. What a miracle for such a terrible situation.
So glad that you are safe and sound. Sounds like "Sully" is quite a guy.

01/16/09 10:50 AM #597

Richard Finke

Tom, I hear what you are saying. I am not an engine designer, but so much air has to pass through the engine that any screen strong enough to stop the birds would probably not allow enough air through the engine. I know they shoot frozen turkeys through engines and at wind screens to test them. We had a turkey vulcher go through the canopy of an F-16 in my squardron one time. I think it is the only time that has ever happened. The pilot was on a low level run at 500 feet and 500 mph when it happened. Luckily he had his face shield down and his oxygen mask on. The canopy and bird hit him right in the face, but he was able to land the plane.

Heard the news about the plane on the radio on my way to NK girls high school basketball game. Checked the web site when I returned home and was glad to see it was not you on the plane. Alot of very fortunate people!!

Rich,
On lunch hour I just watched your video of Desert Storm. The pictures are awesome! I held back the tears and cannot put into words the emotions that came over me while watching this. You have enabled us to see from your prospective what we would never would have seen without you sharing this with us. You have probably been told this many times, but thank you so very much for serving for our country. I don't think this gets said enough. Thank you for sharing this on our website. It meant a great deal to me as I am sure it will to all who watch this.
