Happy Birthday, Brenda and Anna!!

Tom, I'm wondering why your Mother had one of my old Love Letters to you? Probably was gonna blackmail some one in later years. It's strange I never remembered a rivalry with Cheryl. Since she was your neighbor did you ever peek in her windows? lol

The one thing I wish I had kept over these years were those Truth Books. Does anyone remember those?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRENDA!!

I'm snowed in today. Wouldn't mind making a snowman if the texture is right. Jean, maybe we could dig out a hood and take a ride. If not, I'll probably brew a cup of tea and just be lazy. The rest of you take care out there!

Leslie I remember the truth books! Did we ever learn much from them? lol Don't have any now, but I do have an autograph book from 6th grade. woohoo

Rich,
I am still trying to fly, howerver, there is nothing to rent at Washington Airport. I have a friend who just built a grass strip and is getting ready to buy a plane so perhaps I will have something to fly again.

Lu,
The bridge in question was the one in the gully by the Tastee Treat. The objective was to ride as fast as possible down the hill and then use the speed to make it to the top by the parking lot.

Jeff,
In case you have not heard, Karen and I own the lot at Pine Bluffs next to the one your mom and dad owned. Hopefully phase one of the building project will start this spring. I am tried of driving to church from Petersburg everyday.

Tom,
Thank you for the kind words. They keep me going.

Jean
I remember the car hoods very well, I remember riding with everybody including you, it was always something to look forward to every year. Alot more exciting and dangerous than regular sledding.

Welcome to the site, Gwen!

Mike, I remember that other path to the 'Treet. Too bad that grove of trees and gully no longer exist (carwash now). We neighborhood kids had a lot of fun playing in those woods. Didn't need TV, video games, etc. I never tried riding my bike the way you describe. I'm trying to decide whether to tell my own little story of a "what were you thinking?" moment....Anybody else have stories? Sure you do.

Not sure it's appropriate to mention here, but thought some you "out of towners" would like to know. Eric Clinkenbeard, son of Gordon and Janet (Curry) Clinkenbeard took his own life today. He had been having some personal problems the past couple weeks.
He and his brother Matt lived just behind Cindy & I in his great grandparents (Alvin & Alma Kixmiller) former home.
Eric was our grandson Hunter's basketball coach. Hunter had been so looking forward to this ball season because of the opportunity to play for Eric.

Lu, So, are you going to tell your what were you thinking story ? If you tell your's, I'll tell mine.

Tom,

Would you know how Eric Clinkenbeard might have been related to John Clinkenbeard? Just wondering.

Thanks.

Jean Ann Miller (Schroeder)

Henry Eric was John's grandson. Eric was 33 or 34 years old.

Thanks Jean. I thought that could be the case. I have worked with and known John the last 35 years when with Duke. It's a sad time for this family and friends and they will need their friends and prayers.

Tom, Thanks for the information on Eric. I did not know him, but of course know Gordon and Janet. Last night in the hotel, I saw Janet's name on facebook and asked her to tell Kathy about our web site. How very sad.

Our prayers go up for Gordon, Janet, Matt and family. It's just awful to bury a child, especially when we don't understand why. I know that they have their faith in the Lord to sustain them at this time, but it is still a hard thing.

I'm snowed in again. This morning, dug thru 6-7 inches of snow, then 3/4 inch of ice, and 3-4 more inches of snow to get to the mailbox. Wow! Gotta go out and feed our birds next. (At least the sun has come out. woohoo!) It's too powdery to make snowmen or snowballs - darn!

Tom, did I say I'd share a story? Oh, no. Maybe I should go back and delete that from my posting. lol Let's see if others chime in to say (not with fingers crossed behind their back!) that they'll share, too.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNA!

I just went back to the first post - 10 months ago today!

Jeff asked me to post a website that he has going. It's mainly for sharing memories of the good ole days. Please take a look, share a memory! Jeff says just use initials or a username.

Rich, such cute pictures you posted of your birthday party! Between Jeff and I, we identified everyone you feature on the home page. What sweet, innocent baby faces!

Luellen I went to OLEDAYS awhile back to post some memories of the good ole days. Since many of my good ole days involved your hubby, and it was his website, I thought he was interested in posts dealing with some of our adventures. However, the posts there seemed a bit on the tame side, and our good ole days were anything but tame. So, I was hesitant to leave any of my more colorful memories. I too, am home today. But, being the dedicated almost "Employee Of The Year" that I am (or maybe I'm just stupid), I traversed the snowy conditions and made my way to work. Only three of us showed up. Called our head office in E-ville and they said go back home, stupid. (They didn't actually say stupid, but they were thinking it !) As I was driving (plowing) by your house on my return journey, I couldn't help but think, you guys were probably in your nice warm bed, enjoying another day off. Dick Question: Since this was your 6th birthday, it would have been July 1958. We had not yet started to school. So, how did we all know each other ? Steve "Ralph" Telligman and I knew each other because we both lived in the notorious "eastside 'hood". Would church have been the connection between the rest of us ? I say that because Beth Richter was at your party. Or could it have been The Imakolee Club (women's/mother's club). They used to have skating parties, swimming parties, etc..when we were very young. Was your Mom in the Imakolee Club ? BTW, Francie Kixmiller told me once that Imakolee was Indian word meaning "happy home" or something like that. Oh, I almost forgot, Cindy is going to Dallas to visit family in the near future. ( I know what you're thinking, but "when the cat's away, this mouse is too old & wore out to play) She wants to know if she could "hitch a ride" if your flying anywhere near Freelandville at the time ? I was checking out Coon's Flats on St. Hwy. 159. I think you could land there, if you have really, really good brakes on that flying machine. Or maybe you could splash down in Mary Ann Miller's pond. You will not have to land in Dallas, just push her out the door....OK with me.

Tom, Great question about how we knew each other. I am not sure. I was thinking why Jean, Pat, Debbie, and Carol were not at my party. By the way, if you missed my party and want to still send a gift, you have my address.

My mom was in another club. I am not sure the name, but Ruth Bubenzer, Shorty Carrico, Mary Albright, Beth Doane, were a few that I think were in the club.

I'll see what I can do about dropping your wife off in Dallas. Coon's Flat would probably be the best site I can think of. I did my first trip into LaGuardia last night since the accident. My flight was LGA to CLT. It was the last leg of a 4 day trip just like Sully's. It was an A-320 tail number 109 instead of 106. The flight was an hour later than 1549. I'll have to admit as I was flying in though, that I sure hope the birds had gone to bed for the night.

"...LGA to CLT..."
I know you don't listen to Bob & Tom Show, but you sound just like Kenny Tarmac !!! His typical banter is (in loud cellphone voice)........HEY !! WE JUST LANDED ! FLEW TWA INTO ATL WITH LAYOVER AT STL AND AN ETA OF 8:08 !!! LOL

Jeff Miller will know what I'm talking about....he is a Bob & Tom devotee.

Tom,

Well duh! Can;t you realize it was a male only party. You guys started very young. I know you were watching porno flicks in the back room. OMG I just had a vision of Rich's Mother in a french maid uniform serving cocktails. Gosh maybe I should be a writer what an imagination that was.

Lu, In response to your question about the weather. Not really sure what the temperature is but I'm wearing shorts. Of course I had to put on a jacket to check the mail. (maybe high 60's)

I don't know if any of you watched the featured video on the right side of the home page today or not. It was 23 years ago today that the Challenger blew up. I still remember being in my living room in Sumter, SC and the sick feeling I had watching it on the news. I still feel just as sick watching it today.

01/28/09 11:42 PM #695

Luellen Byrer (Miller)

Rich, I watched the video earlier today, with much sadness. I was in Kixmiller's store when someone shared the news, then ran home to watch it all on TV. What a terrible loss.

Forgot to name the kids that Jeff and I identified from the link to your birthday party pics. Joe Robbins, Wayne Bobert, Steve Barrett, Tom Held and Steve Telligman - is that right?

Boss called. Guess they've cleared the roads good enough to go back to work tomorrow. It's been a treat to be home the past 2 days!

I saw this link on Facebook. It took me back a few years to Channel 7 in Evansville when television was very young.

Tom,

Again thank you so much for my play list additions. I concur with your rendention of the new posted picture. It's very obvious that these lads had a bit of "Hells Angels" in their stance.

Boy Tom I never realized you had such a comedic streak. I've been doing Improv for awhile. I think we could hit the road and be the new George and Gracie. Or maybe I could just hire you to be my writer.
