Tom - by the way, I did ask Mother about Stiles over the weekend. She could not remember anyone by that name in Bruceville :) As we discussed why I had asked and the Bruceville School teachers, Mother told me that she and I had the same first grade teacher: Miss Flossie (Huffman)She went by Miss Flossie.

Judy, check out entry #879. Howard Stiles was the husband of Mary Jane. They lived on 4th Street in Bicknell most of their lives. My mother learned at the funeral from her son Jim I guess that Howard and Mary Jane got married during WWII. They were together a week after the wedding and then he went over seas and did not see each other for 3 years. My dad was in the Pacific for over 3 years without coming home. Makes my 5 months in the desert a few years ago not seem so bad.

Norman Smith who went to grade school in Bicknell up through the 7th grade has joined our site. Welcome, Norman. Here is the note I received from him.

Hello I lived in Bicknell and went to grade school all the way through 7th grade. The sad thing is we moved to Vincennes. So the rest of my schooling was there. Although I came to Bicknell a lot and especially on weekends. Attended many of the ball games of North Knox. It was the school I wish I could have graduated from. I remember a few of the 1970 Class but I'm getting older and the mind doesn't work as well as it use to. I lived a few doors down from Jeff Lynn when I lived in Bicknell. What a athlete!! Take care Norm

The picture is at the Streamliner in Bicknell (i believe)
The picture on the home page is Tom or Chuck Flickenger.I saw Linda Sebring in the picture along with Butch Erwin. I think Linda's parents owned the restaurant.

To Norman, yes you did live a houses from Jeff Lynn but you lived closer to me. Miss Dingwall (who was Morris Tankersley's granmother lived between us. You lived in the house on the corner with your Grandmother Mrs. Church I believe, along with your brother John and sister Charlene. I moved from 507 West 6th street in 3rd grade so that was a pretty good memory. My Mom was Dot and I had 2 sisters Terri and Pam. Norman my sister Pam would love to know how she could contact Charlene.

Here are a couple of links from The Charlotte Observer this morning showing our newest Simulator at US Airways. The first one is the story about the Simulator and the second one is a 360 degree view of it. Thought some of you may enjoy reading about it. Of course, this is the one that went in the Hudson back in January. We have 3 of these Airbus A-320 Simulators in Charlotte. This is the plane I have been on at US Airways for the last 10 years. I instructed in this Simulator from 1999 to 2003, but now act as a Line Instructor, flying new pilots in the actual aircraft.

Article on Airbus Simulator.

360 Degree View of Simulator. Hold your mouse (left button) down and look around the cockpit.

Norman, I enjoyed reading about the computers and how they have progressed during your career. Thanks for telling us about it.

Please check out the Ross Sister's YouTube Video from 1944. It will make your 50+ year old body ache. Click on the "Top Videos" link on the left side of this page.

Dick, Enjoyed the photo of King Joe Ed and Queen Kristy. If you will recall, there were three canidates for King of Freelandville Jr. High in 1966. Joe Ed Koenig, Wayne Boberg and myself. Money collection cans were placed at various businesses around town and voting was done by putting money in the can of the canidate you wanted to vote for......with each 10 cents counting as 10 votes. (I can't recall what the money was to be used for) The reason that Wayne & I lost the election was because we would make the rounds of all our voting cans about town each day and empty the money out to buy candy & pop ! (Yes, I know....we were crooked politicians....we were ahead of our time, as we would have been perfect for today's political scene) Signed.... The Boy Who Would Have Been King !!

If any of you like the song "Amazing Grace", you may want to watch this YouTube Video. Hold on to your heart at the 3 minute mark.

Hey Rita - welcome to the site!

Norman, I remember a field trip to CRANE during our jr. or sr. year. They showed us the computer room, and that computer took up all the room. I was impressed. Who'd a thunk we would now have teeny tiny computer chips running so many objects in our everyday lives?

Rich, thanks for the link to Amazing Grace. Powerful rendition.

Easter blessings to all!

Norman Smith informed me that our classmate, Steve McKinnon passed away a few years ago in West Virginia. Steve was Norman's cousin. As soon as Steve can give me a few details, I will list Steve on the "In Memory" page.

Rich - Got your message and just thought I would respond here instead of individual message board. By the way, Tom and you do a fantastic job with the site - the stories are both interesting and hilarious.

Norman - I remember you well while living right done the street. I went past your house all the time while walking to my grandparents' house (Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds). They lived in the next block down from you and on Fifth Street. I remember alot of your stories and people you mention as if they were yesterday. It's great to be able to here from people like you and what they have been doing over the years.

Leslie - Where have all your stories been lately? Nobody kidnapped you and took you across the border, have they? Oh well! If they have, give them time, they'll bring you back soon! (just kidding) Still wish I could have seen you when I was in Vegas.

Not sure who the girl is in the Literature class, but I'm going to guess the guys are Rich Finke, Tom Held, and Dennis Pinnick. I may be way off though.

04/08/09 04:42 PM #916

Tom Held

Jeff.....that's not me in the picture. I'd say it's Dick Finke, Mike Wolfe and Dennis Pinnick. As for the girl......hmmmmmmmmm ??? I have went through all female yearbook photos, looking for girls who have shoulder length hair and part it on the right. Luellen, Brenda Dalton, Anna England, Pam Kramer, Thersia Jones and Sandra Thuis possibly fit that description I'm going to go with Pam Kramer (?) Dick Being a fellow Indy 500 fan, I hate to make you feel bad.......but, Danica and I are now Facebook friends.

The picture

Dennis Pinnick, Mike Early. Mike Wolfe and Sandy Thuis.
Don't ask me why I took that picture but the good thing about the picture taker is that you didn't have to worry about getting a picture taken

04/08/09 07:37 PM #918

Tom Held

Damn !!! I was going to say Mike Early !!

04/08/09 08:16 PM #919

I was just going to say you will have to ask Leslie for the answer to the picture when magically it appears on the screen.

Norman, I am not sure what you mean by the individual message board. You are not restricted from anything. You can send someone a personal email by clicking on their name.

Leslie, We need some more pictures. I am running out of pictures. Hint, Hint, everyone else.

I hear Mike DeCoursey may have pnuemonia, if my source is correct, I hope you are doing better Mike.

04/08/09 09:50 PM #920

Michael DeCoursey

Rich,

Your source is correct, I do have pneumonia. I started getting sick two weeks ago while on vacation in Florida. Had the choice between injections in the hip and another medicine or a hospital stay. I choose the injections, figured I could rest at home.
For the Bicknell kids, how many of you remember who Herschel Valentine, Charlie Riggle were? Bonus questions, what is Charlie's nickname and what is his brothers name? Maybe more later, the bed is calling.

04/09/09 03:45 AM #921

Leslie Jones (Palcovic)

Mike, Charlie's brother was Danny. I remember Charlie had a speech impediment of some kind and I can remember people saying sawlie(sp?)Chawlie. Big smiling face and always happy

Charlie can now be seen wondering the streets of Vincennes.Danny and his wife did live here also but haven't seen him for a while.

04/09/09 11:35 AM #923

Jean Ann Powers (Neal)

I remember Herschel Valentine, he lived next door to me and right across fifth street from Bicknell School. Charlie is still around Vincennes. He use to come into the store where I work and use our restroom. After someone had to clean up after him a few times is no longer is allowed to use our restroom.

I recall Charlie selling the Grit newspaper when he was still in Bicknell years ago. Now days, Charlie is a fixture in the downtown Vincennes area. He often approaches me for fwee pop when I am servicing the C-store at 6th & Vigo.
