Hope you have had Great Birthdays, Leslie & Rachel!

Jeff & I just got back from Destin FL. Ahh, beautiful beaches right outside our door, lots of sunshine, delicious seafood, and it's just a day's drive away.

Coming home, we stopped for a fill up of cheap gas at I-64/41. As we left we saw a familiar face - Henry Archer smiling from a billboard. Nice picture, Henry!

Rich, I can't believe you found a morrell....I was just thinking about mushroom hunting last week and wishing I had some to fry!

Kathy, Scroll down to the bottom of this web site listed below and you can see where the morrells are mostly. I never knew they were in NC. I always heard your woods was a gold mine for morrells.

It's hard to believe, but 43 years ago yesterday, several of us here were at Leslie's house for her & Rachael's birthday party. Time is slipping away.....way too fast. I took a vacation day today. I spent a very, very enjoyable (?)few hours at the endoscopy dept. at Good Sam. Hospital getting a colonoscopy. What an absolute joy it was !!! BTY Freelandvillians, my doctor was Vic Kirchoff....grandson of Floyd & Bertha (Kirchoff's Grocery). We spent a fair amount of time discussing his Dutchmen roots. He spoke of the time he had a wart on his hand and Floyd took him next door to Buckthal's Hardware to have Pete Buescher "wish away" his wart. And it worked ! Vic told me that it has been proven in double-blind studies, that some people do have the ability to wish away warts. Believe it or not ! Pete used to rub on the wart and repeat a little voo-doo type of chant.

Rich - Kathy - what a good looking couple! Ah, the memories. What does anyone think of proms nowadays? Personally, I liked the simpler (cheaper!) proms from "way back when".

Tom - pretty soon you can mow at 10pm without the lights! Did you see our front yard? LOOKS like someone drove off into the yard. But it was a "mowing accident", just ask Jeff or Bill Schroeder.

Tink
I too have been to Pete for wart removal. My dad sent me across the street from the IH to have Pete work on it. He did everything you said but he tied a string in a circle around the wart, "on my hand by the way", and slowly tightened the string until it slipped off the top of the wart. It did go away, but it took a couple of weeks.

Tom, Thanks for remembering the party of many years ago. WOW What we'd give to go back then and know what we know now. In remembering that special day April 28th, I also remember that Bill Menke shared a birthday on that day as did Mr. Skeens. I do remember more than once making him a cake and bringing it to school. I started brown nosing at an early age.

Leslie, I just saw where Danny Gans passed away. Did you ever have a chance to meet him during all your years in Vegas? Just wondering.

Answer to the Indy 500 winners question: This is not a guess. I know the answer ! 1965 - The late Jimmy Clark (The Flying Scot) 1966 - The late Graham Hill (former F-1 driver) 1967 - Anthony Joseph Foyt, Jr. 1968 - Bobby Unser 1969 - Mario Andretti (in Andy Granatelli's STP car) 1970 - Al Unser

I am impressed. I could never have done that or even come close and I am an Indy fan.

Rich, I had just gotten a call from a friend in Vegas about Danny Gans. Wow what a great loss that will be. After Siegfried and Roy stepped down, Danny replaced them and was quite an entertainer. His impersonations were unbelieveable. What he did for the underpriviledged kids in the city and state was incredible.

Rain, Rain, GO AWAY.
Time for farmers and gardeners to get busy.

My sympathy to Susan Wolske Staub on the death of her father, Walter, on April 29. Thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Ruth, Help me out on whether Susan went to North Knox or not. She was Beth Richter's cousin. I cannot remember if I knew her from Bethel or from North Knox. One time when I was in Colorado, she needed a ride to Colorado Springs. I was headed back to the Academy after my summer vacation and off we go in my Porsche 914 non stop 1075 miles to Colorado. It seems she may have gone to North Knox one or two years.

Dick, I believe Susan went thru Sophmore year at NK. I stayed in touch through Beth, and saw her some at church after she moved away. I was at her house a couple of times while she was at NK. Her dad was also a distance cousin of Dad's thrugh my Grandma Hagemeier. Which I think all of F'ville may be!!:)

Nice article on the 1941 Sectional Champs. Dad still talks of those days.

RE: 1941 Sectional Champs The Regional Championship game with Washington was played on the Hatchet's home court. The viewpoint of some in attendance was that the officiating was slanted towards the Washington team. I heard this several times over the years from "Red" Ritterskamp*. At the conclusion of the game, Gladys Ritterskamp** walked up to one referee and hit him with her purse and said "have a nice day !" Heard this from her daughter Francie Kixmiller. * "Red" Ritterskamp was basketball coach at Freelandville (two seperate times, I believe late 30's & mid 40's ?). Red was also my mom's uncle, having married her aunt. "Uncle Red" (as we called him) was also Francie (Ritterskamp) & Jimmy Ritterskamp's uncle. At family gatherings over the years, I heard "Uncle Red" have heated discussions concerning the biased officiating in the Freelandville/ Washington game in '41. ** Gladys Ritterskamp was Jimmy Ritterskamp's mother. Jimmy was Francie (Ritterskamp) Kixmiller's brother. Ruth, you're correct, I think we are all related to one another in one way or another !! The Telligman / Held bloodlines got mixed back in the 1860's's (?) when Fred Telligman married one of Johann Held's (my great-great grandfather) daughters. I believe Charlie Brooks (Brooks Hotel & Sam Singleton's great grandfather) married one of Fred Telligman's daughters. I'm sure if we searched hard enough, we could find a connection to the Hagemeier clan. Just a bunch of inbreds....are'nt we !!!

I went to Retama Park (The race track in San Antonio) on Friday and made a $2.00 dailey double bet on Saturdays race and won $258.50. Then I bet $97.00 on the 11th race (The derby) and didn't win 1 bet. Shoulda quit while I was ahead.

When is the last time any of you ate a Big Chef ? Hardees, who purchased Burger Chef way back when, is currently having a nostalgia promotion featuring Big Chefs at only $1.50 each (so I had four !) Tasted just like I remembered !!! Took me back to when we used to cruise "The Chef" on Saturday nights. BURGER CHEF HISTORY
