Kathy....Saw your brother Gary & wife in church today. Didn't get to talk to Gary, I guess we went different ways after the service. Just wondering if you were in Indiana also?

Jean....Good news about Luke. I know where you will be on your lunch hour from work:)

Brenda.... Congrats to you and Stan on your new grandson Parker. I am blessed to have my grandkids living close to us. Can't imagine what it would be like to live apart from the kids, but one of these days we will find out whenever Jamie or Brittany adds to the family.

Hey Ruth! No, I didn't make the trip this time...in fact, I had lunch today with Pam Kramer Langferman and her husband, Dale, and daughter, Kathy. Rich Finke and his wife Ann met us for lunch also...it was great... Pam organized it all...I almost missed the whole event because I didn't check my e-mails this week until they had already left Indiana...it was very enjoyable...Pam and I decided we hadn't seen each other since my wedding (first one). Rich should have pix on here soon :)

Jean, glad to hear the good news about Luke.

Congrats to Brenda and Stan...I love the name Parker!

Tom, Thanks for the great YouTube videos. I did not recognize anyone. I always loved the train. I can't remember the tractors. I didn't see any slides at Rainbow Beach.

What a great day yesterday. Pam Kramer and her husband were in Shelby visiting their daughter, Kathy. Pam called Kathy Watson and myself to get together for lunch and to talk about old times. I had not seen Kathy in 39 years and Kathy and Pam had not seen each other in about 30 years. Kathy and Pam roomed together some at Purdue. If you ever have a chance to get together with some old classmates, it is well worth the time. It is amazing that after 39 years, in many ways we have not changed at all. Pam, thanks for calling me. My wife and I enjoyed the afternoon very much.

We are also glad Luke is home. We are looking forward to enjoying him very much. We are lucky they live close to us and I'm sure we will have the opportunity to babysit every now & then. Ha! Brenda Deweese & I have compared Grandma photos already. They are both cute babies!!!!!

Congratulations Jean and Brenda on those new grandkids.
Ann and I have been patiently waiting on a grandchild also. It finally looks as though it will happen the latter part of August. CAN'T WAIT

Norman, Luke was in the NeoCare Unit for 11 days and time seemed to go so slow. Can only imagine what 80 days felt like for your family. It is amazing the care and compassion that is shown by the staff in the NeoCare Unit. Pat & Ann, Congratulations Grandparents to be!!! What great news!

Jean, what a great picture! You have a very handsome grandson!! I'm so glad he's home :)

Luellen Byrer (Miller)

Congratulations Grandma Jean and Grandma Brenda! Both babies look precious. Blessings to both families. Don't they both resemble their grandpa's?! Is Grandma the official title? Our kids actually took a vote to decide on Grannie & Grandad.

Nice pics of Pam, Kathy, Rich and families! It's great you all got together. Once again, a big thanks to Rich for getting this website going. Kathy (Dunn) Wellington and I had lunch together just last week to start catching up again.

Tom - thanks for posting the videos. What a trip down memory lane! I'd swear that's Rich in the 1960 video, making faces at the camera! Look in the background at the beginning. What building(s) is that behind the cars going by?? Is that 6th Street?

Congratulations, Pat! You will love being a Grandpa.... it is the best part of getting old! The official name now is Mimi for me and Papaw for Stan. I get to go back to Zionsville Friday to babysit... can't wait!

Happy birthday, Carla Jean!

Lu, I thought the Uncle John Kiddieland video was awesome. About as close as you can get to traveling back in time. Just watching the video gave me a calm feeling....realizing how much simpler life was at that time. I also wondered about the cars that are visible in the background. That has to be 6th street. The building across the street appears as if it might be a motel (?). I have a '63 Vincennes phonebook....I will have to see if I can figure that one out. The (then new) Johnson Controls factory is also visible at one point(looking across Niblack Blvd.). At that time it was called Reynolds Spring, then Stubnitz and Johnson Controls before it closed. My Dad worked there for 32 years. Did you notice the other YouTube videos ? Kiddieland 1950 & 1953. Rainbow Beach 1954. I also thought that boy looked like Dick ! The video was posted on Facebbok Vincennes Remember When Group. You should join this group. There are some very interesting discussion topics concerning local history. Dick, Leslie, Robin Overbey and myself are among the 800 plus members. Oh, BTW......in the the early 60's, I was removed from the train ride at Kiddieland just after boarding. The train engineer said I was too big to ride. I was, and still am, traumatized !!

Tom, I do not think it was me, but it did look like me. I have to agree with you that the videos do give a calming effect because of the simple time that it was. With all the things to do today, we are somewhat numb to it all. I am wondering if the Dumes are the people that had the junkyard?

Tom, I have been wondering if you always get up at 2 am to go to work? I won't complain again when I have to get up at 5:30. I am going from Philly down to Cancun tomorrow and then back to Philly. We are only there an hour. The flights are still real light due to the flu. I don't think I will get off the plane tomorrow just in case.

Tom, Sorry Danica lost, but it was a good race. They finally gave up here on Monday with the Coke 600. The rain just wouldn't stop.

I found Patty Matthews and Christina Miller on Facebook. I have sent them a message and hope they sign on to our site. I am thinking Patty M. may be Patty Duke but I am not sure. I also found out from Pam Langferman that Leroy Goracke is near Memphis, TN. Pam's brother, Ben, is married to Leroy's sister, Mary. I have sent Mary a note asking her to tell Leroy about our site.

We still have many classmates that we are looking for. The following site works very well if you have an idea where someone may be. I would ask that everyone pick a friend or two and try to find them on this site and encourage them to sign on. The site is: Your Book. Just click on "Your Book" and put in the information you know.

DICK Mon. - Friday: Get up at 3:30am Saturday: Get up at 2:00am Early hours don't bother me that much until Saturday. I am extemely tired by Sat. afternoon. Just mowing my yard on Sat. has become a dreaded task ! Forget any other type of yard work. My shrubs are overgrown and weeds have overtaken everything. (And I used to enjoy yardwork) Things are falling apart around here, but no time or energy to fix them. LOL I do force myself to stay awake long enough on Sat. night to watch my beloved Marty Stuart Show and The Cumberland Highlanders Bluegrass Music Show on RFD-TV. LOL -------------------------------------- I assume that the Uncle John's/ Rainbow Beach videos are by the same Dumes family of Dumes Salvage. It is hard to believe we lived during those simpler times. I have many childhood memories of the late 50's/ early 60's, but at the time had no appreciation for them. I took off work a couple weeks ago on Monday because I had some business to take care of in downtown Vincennes. I found myself with some free time, so I bought my lunch and went and sat on a park bench in the little grassy area at 1st & Main Street. I believe that is called Patrick Henry Drive. I then walked over to the Lincoln Memorial bridge and went under the bridge and found myself at the exact spot where Abe Lincoln's family crossed the Wabash way back when. There is a marker there where the ferry took them across the river. Also, there is a photo of the ferry at the Vincennes Remember When Group at Facebook. I had not been there since my Aunt Judy Niewald used to take me there when she was a VU student('54-'56). I followed the flood wall on down to the Lincoln Memorial to the statue of Francis Vigo. I just sat there in the sushine and......well, I just sat there and relaxed ! Walked up & down Main Street several times. Brought back memories of the mid 60's when Pat & I made the rounds of the music stores on Sat. mornings (while my Mom worked) trying to glean any musicial insight that we could from those who would put up with us (never bought anything, "just looking"). I then walked (yes,I said walked) around the area from Vigo Street to Broadway Street just checking out some the old French structures....some of which I had seen photos of at the Vincennes Remember When Gruop page. I ran into an old friend ....Robin Overbey....and we sat and talked for a good while. I stopped at the corner of 4th & Broadway where the old YMCA used to be...where we boys learned to swim in 1960. I don't think I had felt that calm & relaxed in years. What a stress-free day ! Well, gotta stop for now, I have to go work for a couple hours this morning !!! LOL

Tom, That 2 am get up would hurt. When we are both in the Freelandville home in a few years, we will be wishing we could still get up at 2 am and go to work. I always have to remind myself that this is as good as it gets. Enjoy it now.

I made contact with Christy Miller on Facebook. Hopefully she will sign on to our site. Another 70 grad heads south to live in NC. Christy is in Winston-Salem, NC. Good to hear from her.

I am probably going to IN this week for a quick visit with my family. I am not sure if it would work out, but I was thinking maybe Wed night, anyone interested could get together somewhere for dinner or a drink. I am not sure if Vincennes or Bicknell and where to get together would be best for anyone interested. Anyone interested, let me know.

For those who may be interested, a North Knox Class of 1969 reunion will be held next Saturday evening in Vincennes. This will be our 40th anniversary. You in the class of '70' are almost there!

Congratulations to those who have new grandbabies and to those expecting them. Jean, I read with interest your grandson Luke was in the St. Mary's neo-natal unit in Evansville. Was he born at St. Mary's or transferred there? I was visiting with my sister-in-law this evening and discussed your grandson, Luke. My sister-in-law works in the neo-natal unit at St. Mary's. She went to Vincennes around May 15th do transfer a newborn to St. Mary's. I was just wondering. My sister-in-law's name is Kim Singleton. Good to hear all is well with Luke and the family.

Luke was born in Washington, IN on May 15th. He was taken to St. Mary's on the 16th. I don't remember a nurse by the name of Kim on staff but I will ask the kids. Luke is getting along great!! Everyone is glad he is home.

Have fun at your 40th class reunion!!

Congats to all you new grandparents. I now have 7. They are a joy. My mother lived in Washington, Ind. She passed away 2 years ago,and I haven't been back to Ind. since. Thank you, Richard, for inviting me to this site.

Christy, Thanks for signing on. I enjoyed reading about your life. A good picture of you on your home page. I guess we have at least 4 living in NC now from our class. I have been in IN since Sunday night. I just had a nice visit with Jean Schroeder and Steve Neal at the Mill in Freelandville where they both work. I have not heard from anyone about getting together Wed. I will probably be at my sister's for dinner so it may have to wait until next time. I have taken a few pictures while home and am trying to scan a few old pictures from our youth. I will try to post them at some point.

Ruth, I have enjoyed my visit. My son and I are driving back in the morning. It is the first time in 27 years that I have driven to IN. I am spoiled by having the flying privileges with my job. This time though we decided to drive since my son had never been up through TN,KY, and IN. It was a nice drive. I Saw a few classmates on my trip. I scanned many photos, mostly of me, so you all will have to look at photos of me for the next few months. Sorry.

I saw Earl Horst today and had a nice talk. I enjoyed seeing Jean Schroeder and Steve Neal yesterday. I went by Tom's house to mow his yard, but he was not home. I was afraid to knock too loud for fear Tom might be sleeping since he gets up early. I went in the Cafe in Freelandville. To those who live there, you probably know the lady who runs the restaurant. Anyway, she told my that she was or is married to the younger brother of David and Freddie Richards who went to grade school with us. She said Fred lives in Bruceville and works for Carnahan and David lives in MI.

I hope the class of 69 has a nice reunion this weekend and that the farmers finally get their crops in.
