Norm and Leslie, We are probably the few that ever visited the Streamliner or remember the rebels that hung out there! LOL...FYI...Butch and Linda had a son, Sammy. They divorced, and he married Brenda Strate. I think they have a doughter. I tried to keep up with all my exes, but it became a full time job, and I still have to work...LOL...Does anyone remember that little shack that sold candy by the RR tracks? We would go there before the movies sometimes. Or the Ma and Pa Kettle movies downtown????

I have not seen Butch for about 15 years or so. When I used to service the Bicknell area on my job back in the mid-90's, we had fountain service in both the taverns on Main Street.
Butch owned The Dugout and his mom, Betty, owned Betty's Place across the street. Butch also worked at the Scepter Recycling plant.
I believe The Dugout has changed names. Not sure if Butch still owns it. I don't make "the rounds" like I used to !!
Yes, Butch always was considered one of the tough guys in school, but in my dealings with him at The Dugout, I always found him to very polite and ran a very organized business.
One time I was across the street servicing Betty's Place, when Butch stopped by. I had know Betty for years from when she worked for Paul Memering. Butch, Betty and myself had nice conversation about good times at Paul's Tavern, high school, etc. I used to run into him once in awhile out at the IGA, have not seen him for several years now.

Christy, Was the store the one that Neva Swans Mother owned? Right on the corner? I use to pass that way going to my Grandma Trotters. Do you remember Pearls Commercial Hotel? OMG!! I didn't know this until later but my Grandpa Jones use to live there. I never really knew Vic Jones who was my real Dad, but I remember everytime I drove past (actually that would be ride my bicycle past) Pearls I always went real fast. Man were we kids with a vivid imagination!!!!!!!!!!

Leslie, I guess this site is good for my mind, cause I'm really pushing it to the limit, trying to remember stuff!!! YesI do remember the hotel. Bunch of drunks , I always thought. In 6th grade I had a paper route, and had to pick up my papers there on my bike. An old guy kept wanting to kiss me for a quarter! I couldv'e been rich today if I had a quarter for every kiss I've given freely, but you could not pay me enough to kiss that old guy!

Hey, Richard, I found some old photos I think some of you may enjoy, but not sure where to post them. On my photos on my profile? ( I am not as smart as you) LOL

That aerial photo of Rainbow Beach is awesome. Would be nice to see the same area now. The trees in Gregg Park are quite large, I doubt you'd see much grass from the air. Rich, sometime when you are flying over Vincennes would you snap a picture for us? Thanks!

The Streamliner was on 2nd and Main. Building gone now. The present building used to be occupied by Hoosier Gas. I think it's a hair salon now.

I don't know Butch personally, but do know that he comes to see his mom a lot at the Freelandville Community Home. I've seen him there, wouldn't have known him if someone hadn't said who he was.

Lu, I had forgotten that Betty Irwin was in the F'ville Home. I looked up Butch on Whitepages. Shows his address as Main Street - Jeanettes Place (old Dugout Tavern). He must still own it(?). If you would like to see Rainbow Beach/ Gregg Park from an aerial view, you can use Google Earth to look down on it as it is today. 3-D version of Google Earth works best. If you don't want to download Google Earth, there is another way to look down from the sky (besides riding along with Dick in the cockpit !). (1)Go to www.yellowpages.com (2)Click on "Map & Directions". (3)Type in "Vincennes, IN" and click "Get It". (4)You now should see map of Vincennes. (5)At top of map, click on "Hybrid". This will give you aerial view of Vincennes with names of streets on the map. By using the tools (zoom, directions) at the leftside of the page, you should be able to navigate anywhere in Vincennes. ------------------------------------------- Want to look for a private residence ? Then go to www.whitepages.com and do basically the same thing. I checked out Gregg Park. Looking down, tree cover is not nearly as much as I had thought it would be.

Lu, Here are some pictures I took recently. You can get better pictues from Google earth, but it is fun to see if you can figure out some pictures. Here is the link if you care to look. Click here for some aerial photos of Indiana.

Dick....very interesting photos. I can easily make out Indy airport, but is that really the 500 track ? Seems like it should be a little farther north. Maybe not... As far as the second picture, do you have any idea what road that is that is clearly visible ? Can you really take a pic of Freelandville from over Terre Haute ? Question: When you are setting up for a landing (ex.Indy airport), how much is done by instruments and how much is visual ? The 1940's aerial photos of Vincennes are very interesting for anyone with an interest in local history. I highly suggest everyone checks them out at Facebook's Vincennes Indiana Remember When Group. BTW, there is a Freelandville Discussion Topic there also, as well as discussion topics for all NK towns. If you have any historical questions about your particular town, site administrator Norbert Brown will do his best to research your question at the Vinc. Public Library or the Historical Library in the old Brockman funeral home. Need more NK residents to join this historical group.

Tom, I am off to bed. Getting up at 4:45 which I know is like sleeping in for you. Will comment more tomorrow. That is definitely the Indy Motor Speedway. You can see a pretty good distance on some days. We were at probably 34000 at that time. The second picture, and what I was looking at was the white river in Edwardsport, because rivers, especially flooded rivers really stand out. If you look in the upper left of the picture, you will see some dirt. I believe that is the big power plant construction project in Edwardsport. I saw it a couple of months ago and could not believe how it stood out. That is what I was trying to take the picture of, but the glare was bad. I'll study the picture tomorrow and see if I can figure those roads out. Good night.

1969 Henry Archer, Jr.

Rich,

Thanks for posting the picture of the NKHS Class of 1969 Reunion on your class's website and posting the information sheet passed out at the reunion. We had a nice time and it is always special to catch up to friends and classmates from the past.

I believe a decision was made to join the next NKHS Alumni Reunion when it is held and then hold another Class of "69" reunion on our 50th anniversary. Personally, I hope I am around to attend. :)

Norm, Now you are really testing my memory, but I do remember someone kinda watching out for me. Was it you? LOL...Gee, guess you were my hero back then. Too bad I can't remember it clearly!!! We are talking about almost 50 years ago!!!!OUCH! It's great to read all this, and to see pics. I have a few I'd like to share. Guess I'll make a new album on my profile, for oldies. Gotta run...gotta work...

Jean Ann, Thanks for signing on. I enjoyed reading about your life. You have been busy. A PhD for a son? I am impressed.

06/11/09 07:22 PM #1063

Leslie Jones (Palcovic)

Jean,

Welcome to the site. I was wondering if any of our class officers would ever be drawn to this area. Sometimes the stories that people remember and share here are unbelieveable. I've noticed the stories have slowed down somewhat but then we're getting older and our
memories are waning somewhat. When I first joined I went back to the beginning of the message forum and read some very interesting tales. Nice to hear from you.

Jean Ann Gilmore (Ruppel)

Hi All!

So good to catch up with everyone again. It's been too long coming. I've been so busy with real life I forgot to cherish the early memories. All your profiles bring back lots of wonderful memories. We thought we had it so tough growing up, didn't we?

I should apologize for skipping out on all my classmates. Had a few years of bad times (of my own doing) during '72-'77. Then got caught up in raising kids and yada, yada yada.

The next reunion you can count on me being there. And, would be glad to help in some manner, too, if need be.

Richard - you've done such a great job on the website. Hope others in our class will sign on, too. I've probably ridden in your plane before. I've done a lot of travel over the years with my jobs.

Leslie - you probably never knew this, but I always wanted to be the free spirit you were.

Boy am I impressed with Norman! He's been busy, busy busy!

I was in Vincennes a couple of weeks ago at my nephew's wedding - Kyle Gilmore - and I thought I saw Dan Roark there. I was too embarrassed to go up to him and see if it was really him.

Looking forward to joining in on the chatter.

Talk to you all soon!

I had one of my my truly happy moments last night. I went to the mall and ran into 3 girls wearing a CAB shirt. That really shocked me. I stopped them and asked them about the CAB. They were the biggest fans ever (according to them). I just thought to myself here I am in San Antonio and ran into these girls, and I don't even have a CAB shirt. Ordering one as we speak!!!!!!!!

Jean Ann I sure wish had given me a shout - would have been nice to see you. Also two other fellow graduates were at reception, Nancy Hagemeier and Carla Wampler (owner of catering service).

Jean Ann Gilmore (Ruppel)

Dan:

I had no idea Nancy H and Carla was there. Crap - why didn't I talk to you. I'm such a douche. I would hav e loved to talke to all of you.

Anyway, grats on retiring early. I'll make up the slack for you and work the extra year. Unless I hit the lottery! LOL

Going to Chattanooga tomorrow to the aquarium. Tonight its Pelham 1 2 3. Denzel and John - can't wait to see them.

Later

Jean Ann

Luellen Byrer (Miller)

Welcome to the site Jean Ann! It's been a long long time! (not too long lol)

Rich, the photos from the sky are awesome! Someday I want to ride in a hot air balloon, just high enough to see the landscape, not quite as high as you fly! Google Earth is a good way to go, but I wanna see the real thing someday. Thanks Rich & Tom for reminding me to try Google Earth to see Gregg Park. I forgot about that. I like to get on there and follow a river to see where it meanders.

Leslie - your retirement via CAB is getting closer! If they have T-shirts, you know they have made it. Remember your friends :)

Jean Ann Miller, I actually had to go back and look at your high school photo to put you in my mind...it's the over 50 thing going on...loved your baby photos. Have a few of my own. Welcome. I am trying to get a couple other '70 grads on here...Everyone has so much to share.

Here is a link to some pictures from the 1969 Class Reunion held in Vincennes a couple of weeks ago. Thanks Henry and Sharon for passing this on. 1969 Class Reunion Pictures.

I saw Larry Knight in the pictures with a little one. Does anyone know if that is Larry's child or a grandchild? Just wondering.

06/15/09 03:25 PM #1072

Leslie Jones (Palcovic)

Rich,

Look wise I think the picture is Steve Telligman and Debbie Odell. Size wise, I'm not sure who it is. ???

06/15/09 05:27 PM #1073

Jean Ann Miller (Schroeder)

I think Steve Telligman is right. Maybe the other is Elaine Finke? I'm trying to decide whose wedding these cute little kids are in.

06/15/09 06:32 PM #1074

Leslie Jones (Palcovic)

Jean,

You are absolutely right about Elaine, I can see it now.

And of course with Rich adding pictures that stands to reason. duh Wish they had offered a class in "common sense" at North Knox High School. Would've enjoyed that class, instead I had to graduate valedictorian from the school of hard knocks. Lol
