Happy Birthday Bobbie! and all other September babies, too!

This Labor Day weekend/Heritage festival was the 40th anniversary of Bicknell's Centennial celebration in 1969. Were you there (in '69)? Did you wear a period costume? How did you participate? (yes; yes; style show, marched with band in parade). This year Jeff & I ate our way thru fish, pizza, coneys and glorified onions (not all at once! LOL). And went to the parade. Only one band this year, NKHS, a little sad to see such a small group marching down the street. The drummers were very enthusiastic, tho'! Band members - remember the hot uniforms and hats? This year it was khaki shorts and polo shirts!

Happy Birthday today to Bobbie Perkinson Anderson. Hope you have a great day.

Luellen I saw your brother in the parade. He has a neat car. I was SO disappointed in the NK Band and Warriorettes. Are the kids just not interested anymore? What a shame.

LU..... You asked if anyone was at the first Bicknell Labor Day celebration in 1969. I did not realize that was the first one, but I was there on Friday....but not very long. Maybe Pat will remember... Pat, Bill Posey and I were leaving that Friday evening for our first trip to the NHRA National drag races at Indianapolis. For whatever reason, we drove down Main Street. I recall there was a rock band (don't recall the name) playing on Main Street on the sidewalk about where the old Dime Store was. Don't remember much else, but I was there in '69 ! 40 years ago......can't believe it !!!!! Was anyone else there ??????

Kathy, since you mention Gary's car (40 Chevy) - there was a bit of a write up in Sunday's Sun Commercial about it. He did the restoration himself, and it is going to be featured in Jasper Engine's 2010 calendar.

Norm, were the pictures at the skating rink of skaters square dancing? I can't hardly recall, just guessing. Remember how the building used to look - with shutters that were opened up for an open air skating experience. Tuesday nights were "beginner's nights" and we all spent hours and hours having fun times every week.

Yeah Tom, '69 was when the tradition for Labor Day celebrations started in Bicknell. Before that, I just remember attending the football homecoming parades and those used to be a big event probably thru the 40's - 60's. Do they even build floats for NK homecoming anymore? I remember getting my thumb pinned to the bed of our float by a staple gun (no blood, the staple straddled my thumb). Joe Robbins, I think you did that!

Happy Birthday to a former Bicknell grade school and then high school classmate Francis Stein. Hope your birthday is the best yet.

Lu that is great news about Gary's car. It was sharp. I'm sure he is proud for it to be in the magazine.

No, Norm, I wasn't one of the square dancers. Actually, I was best at skating forward only, sometimes backward, lol. Never won the games like skating between pop bottles. Curly and Lucille Warren owned the skating rink back then.

Hey, I think that's my hubby Jeff in the '57 picture! Wasn't he a cutie.

Happy Birthday Francee Stein on 090909!

I think I remember the dance down in Bicknell our Senior summer. I am not sure why I remember it, but I do.

Did the Roller Skaters ever perform at the Bethel Church in Freelandville? I somehow remember them putting on a show in the basement of the church for some event. I was thinking Dennis Pennick was one of the skaters maybe, but I could be wrong. Does anyone remember this?

Congratulations to Steve & Debbie Telligman on the birth of a granddaughter (#3), Emma JeanAnn, to Kyle & Jenny, on Tuesday. Not sure if the spelling is correct. After all those boys, now they have 3 girls and 1 boy!!

I thought the picture was of my older brother Jeff, also. I just wondered what he was thinking of doing in Mrs. Green's 2nd grade class.....mmmm

NORMAN The band at the '69 Labor Day Celebration was not the Corvettes. That band was actually some fairly young guys....but, I do not know who they were.....we did not stay long. I do remember the Corvettes playing in Don Scott's Red & White parking lot. Not sure if that was part of the Labor Day thing or what year that would have been.

Pat, What great pictues. You have to refresh my memory. Is that me in that picture? Where was this? I cannot remember this camping trip. It is definitely Mike. It looks like me. Who is the other guy. Please refresh my memory. I can remember visiting you in the hospital when you had your accident. I never saw you when you got out of the hospital and had the cast on. I guess I had gone off to the Air Force by then.

I understand the Class of 68 has a reunion tonight at Don Villwock's farm. If any of you go as spouces, please send some pictures for our site. My sister Elaine cannot go. She leaves today for New Zealand to see her daughter, Julie, who is an ER Docotr in New Zealand. My other sister, Nancy fell a week ago going into the bathroom and broke her foot bad in three places. She can't put any weight on the foot for 6 weeks.

Pat, I now remember the camping trip. I think my mind blanks this trip out because after this trip which was on a Friday and Saturday in the Spring of 65, I missed the whole next week of school due to Poison Ivy from the trip. I couldn't even open my eyes for a few days. Thanks for posting those pictures. I know many more of you have great pictures. Please scan them and post them if you have time.

Jean Yes, pic is for sure Jeff. Up to no good more than likely. My guess is Mrs. Green probably smacked his knuckles a few times with her ruler ! You probably had to smack him a few times growing up with him !!!! Norm Don't feel bad about the moonlight skate, I am still emotionally scarred from being turned down by F-ville girls when my Mom's club would have skating parties at Bicknell Skating Rink ! R.B. Where have you been hiding this photo of our old band ??? WOW ! Memory is fading....Wayne on Ludwigs, Sam pushin' the big Acetone organ thru his Super Reverb, you with your Fender Super Reverb, me and my Fender Bassman, John on lead vocals and OMG, is that Vernon Huber ???? I did not remember him playing with us that night. Did the lovely Bonnie Huber(LOL) come with us also that summer night in Bucktown, 1967 ? I still think that is Bonnie's voice on that old reel-to-reel recording you have of the band. That was our first real job as a band. I assume you recall what we hauled our equipment in, don't you ? We borrowed Joe Bedwell's VW micro-bus with picture of a Holstein cow on each side....yeah, we were really groovey, hip 60's rockers.....arriving in our cow-themed van !!! Are those the matching outfits we bought in Vincennes at...Albert's, or maybe Walk's ? Sure we had our Beatle boots on too. Just one time, I would love to get the old band back together and play GLORIA......with no practice !!! I think we could do it ! (Boberg...if you read this...you are the missing cog....what about it ?) RE: Body cast.......I believe it was Miller who coined your nickname that summer at '70 Indy Nationals.....Mr. Ready-Mix !!! Seems like a lifetime ago, doesn't it.....

How could I forget the VW, real class, that is Vernon on the far left, don't remember if Bonnie was in attendance or not. We could do Gloria, no problem, I'm in. We did have our matching outfits on that night, like you I can't remember which store we got them, one of those two.

I believe I do remember you getting poison Ivy after that. I know we were in Sullivan County somewhere, Mike brought his Honda 50 along, in case we had trouble. I cannot remember who the other fellow is , I think it is a friend of Mike's from Carlisle or someplace like that, I think his name was John. I remember having some of those pills you dissolve in water to purify it, I tried some of the creek water, bad idea, didn't feel very good either for a while.

R.B. Yes, I know you and I could do GLORIA with no practice...no problem. BUT, could other band members say the same. Didn't we play GLORIA that night at the FHS Alumni Dance a few years back, along with Johnny B. Goode, I believe.

Lu, I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the pictures you posted. Some of those in attendance I recognized right off the bat, others I really couldn't even place even with their names showing. I'm sure you had a great time. Thanks for sharing that with us.

From Lu Miller's information from the 68 reunion, the class has lost 26 members. We have lost 11. I do not have a list of the 68 class that has passed on. Lu, if you have that, I would like to take a look at it. 26 seems like a high number for 59 year olds. I am not sure how many members the class of 68 graduated. We graduated somewhere around 155 students if my information is correct.
