Maybe you have too much free time on your hands!!! Don't you love the stylish eyeglasses of the 5th grade (?). So Cute :) Make sure you leave your laptop with the flight attendants!!

Pat, Tom, Jean (great glasses), Danny & Leslie together in a video? Now that's SCARY! lol

Sorry to lose Mr. Bubenzer. Thanks to him I squeaked thru algebra! Just last week he saw me taking Mom out of the nursing home for a drive to go leaf peeping and asked me to take him next. He loved to go (his son took him out sometimes).

I just read about Mr. Bubenzer. It's funny how you have certain memories of certain teachers. This question goes out to Rita Hancock, Rita do you remember the common bond we shaare with Mr. Bubenzer?

Mike, Great pictures of your trip to the Rocky Mountains!!! Mom & Dad were in Colorado the first week in October. They were in Steamboat Springs. A snowstorm was predicted for the area and they left a day early. It was a wise choice for them!! The area had 6 - 8 inches of snow. I'm still working on pictures of the harvest in the area. I think there will be alot of muddy equipment in these pictures!! Not Good.. :{

Mike, what an impressive trip...good for you!

I was sorry to hear about Mr. Bubenzer....he always believed I was better in math than I thought I was...

And yes, Rich, I am suspicious as to when you put that little number together :)

Mike, looks like a fun trip! Did you take lesser traveled roads or stay on the interstate? Were you traveling with a group?

Oh, in case anybody cares - lol. I found out more from Tim Lee. His buddies in Freelandville were Steve and Edwina Kirchoff, said he had a wild crush on Sherry Kixmiller. His sister is Pat. Tim is 60, Pat is a little older. So...just a little before our time.

Lu, I had a crush on Sherry Kixmiller. I was like 5 and she was teaching vacation bible school I believe. Sorry, wrong Sherry. On second thought I think my crush was on Sherry Diekman. 52 years ago is too long to remember.

Luellen Byrer (Miller)

Gosh, Rich, when you say it like that - "52 years ago I was 5" - it really makes me feel old. Who is Sherry Diekman? Was she as cute as Sherry K?

Happy birthday wishes to Carlene!

To all Ah yes......Sherry Diekman. Her parents were Sonny & Selma Diekman. They lived in the stone house next to where Tony & Elsie Johanningsmeier used to live....across the street from the old Horst's Mill. Sherry used to baby-sit for me and my brother. Sonny & Selma were best friends with my parents. Sonny passed away just a few years back. Believe they were living up in N. Indiana at the time. Sonny was a real character and Selma was a very nice lady. Dick BTW, my vacation bible school teacher-crush was Anita Wagner (Lloyd & Marie's daughter). I liked "cookie time"....when we put our heads down and she would walk by and put a cookie on our desk. LOL Ruth Talked to your Dad down at Kent & Brenda's house while trick 'r treating with the little ones on Saturday night. He looked really good. I had not seen him for awhile.

Sorry, no crush on my vacation bible school teachers. Ha!!!! I do remember helping with bible school at the Freelandville School. I think it was with Craig King's class. Can't remember who the teacher was at that time. Happy Birthday Carlene!! Have a great day!

Patrick Grabbe

Dick ,
You are not the only one who had a crush on Sherry. I happen to have been kinda partial to her myself. Oh the secrets come out.

11/04/09 07:43 PM #1366

Tom Held

Jean You think maybe Craig "C-1" King might have had a crush on you ? BTW.....you know it was Jeff who gave Craig his nickname of "C-1". Pat & Dick Eat your heart boys ! When Sherry Diekman baby-sit for me, she would put me to bed and tuck me in ! Though, I must say that as Vacation Bible School teachers go, Anita Wagner was much hotter than Sherry Diekman !!!!

Tom
Apparently you must have had something in your eye at that time. Right Dick???

Ruth Hagemeier (Wesner)

OK guys, I talked to Sherry this spring around F'ville alumni time. She is as nice today as she was back then. I think Sonny was one of dad's coon-hunting buddies.
Tom....do you remnember as kids our parents used to visit, I have some pics of us kids together.

I remember helping bible school class with kids of Dan Ashley's age. Jean, guess I don't remember the teacher I helped either.

Happy Birthday (and belated) to all November babies.

Birthday blessings to you Mike! Enjoy the day!

Ruth, can you post some of those pictures here?

Richard Finke

To all thanks for the great memories of our early crush's. Pat, I didn't know I had so much competition. I am sure Vickie and Sherry would get a kick out of these comments if they ever log on here.

11/05/09 05:54 PM #1372

Jean Ann Miller (Schroeder)

Are you guys talking about Cheri Kixmiller or Sherry Diekman? (or both) I'm getting a little confused! Maybe I just cannot see any humor in this! LOL I'm sure they would think this was a little funny also! Memories are great! Mike, Have a great birthday!!

11/05/09 06:01 PM #1373

Richard Finke

Jean, Sherry Diekman who lived down by the Horst mill. Not Sherry Kixmiller. I guess we could discuss first romances in Junior High and High School, but I am not sure where that conversation would go.

Mike Happy Birthday !!!! Basketball season coming up. Maybe I'll see you over at E-port. Pat I did not have "something in my eye" back in Vacation Bible School. As a matter of fact, I have in my hand several old Dutch Echoes yearbooks from late 50's. A picture is worth a thousand words: Anita hotter than Sherry ! Ruth I can't recall our parents ever spending time together. Was that when you guys lived out in the country ? I would sure like to have you post those pics here. Also, your mention of Freelandville coonhunters sure conjours up a lot of memories from over the years. Ike, Jack Diekman, Fritz, P.B. "Hoopie" Horst, Poss Grabbe, Flea Wiseman, Hinkle, Don Detering, Myles Dugger, Nellie Fox....the list goes on & on. My first coonhunt as a youngster was with several of these guys. Rendevous at Nellie Fox's house for supper....then head out into the woods for the hunt. Looking back now, I can see what the big attraction was for these Dutchmen coonhunters. Not far into the woods, they let the dogs "run" while they all sat down, pulled their pints of Jack Daniels out and gossiped like a bunch of old women.....only moving when the dogs had a coon "treed" ! LOL Dogs didn't always make it home. Seems like every Sunday morning somebody would call Dad to let him know that they had one of his coon hounds that had "come up to the house" that morning. And Ruth, being a "coonhunter's daughter", you surely remember the smell of a carbide light ? If I had time, I could tell some hilarious stories.
