Don Russell was with the Corvettes in 1985 when they played for my wedding reception at the Rod & Gun Club. At the time, Rex was (from what Neil told me) having "issues" as far as playing reunions dances with the other guys and did not play that night. Tim Ridgeway (Tim & Tomcats) filled in on lead guitar and did a great job.
The line-up that night was Neil, Don, Jimmy, Bruce, Sonny & Tim. My one regret from that night was that Pat got his dates mixed up and was not there......for what turned out to be one hell of a "Dutchmen party" !!! Everyone was having such a good time, that the band agreed to play an extra hour until 1:00am. I recall Neil laughing so hard he could not sing, when I dropped to the floor (in my cream colored tux) and did "the worm" on the dance floor. I think that was the first of many regrets Cindy had about marrying a "Freelandville guy" !! LOL
As I said, it makes me sick that Pat was not there, as I lived out my fantasy of playing with the Corvettes (Johnny B. Goode). Would have been awesome for us all of us to have played together.
I have video of that night and will convert it to DVD and post it as soon as possible. Highlight of the video is our "first dance" to the Corvettes playing "Turn Around, Look At Me" (Vogues). It features Neil & the Russell brothers tremendous vocal harmonies......probably the best of all the songs they did over the many years. I'm sure Pat would agree. I'm especially glad to have this "moment" on video, now that Neil is gone.
It would be nice to see some more Corvette photos here and memories of those times, now that they have more or less "officially" come to an end.
