Mrs. Mallery's first and second letter to me on Facebook.  I always wondered what happened to her.  I am glad she is doing well.

Hi Dick,
I found your name on Susan Wolfe"s facebook page. She is my cousin Randy's wife. I think I might have been your 4th grade teacher. Your aunt was also a teacher at
Freelandville. I am sure you don't remember me, but you were a really neat kid.
Susan (Southerland) Mallery

Mrs. Mallery,

Wow, what a small world. Our 4th grade class has been wondering where you have been. We all went to your wedding. I have a North Knox website that you may be interested in. It is at www.northknox70.com. You may remember some names from our 4th grade year. I think you are mentioned on the message forum a few times. Tom Held, Pat Grabbe, Jean Miller, often talk on the chat room. I would like to mention you on the message forum. I know everyone would like to hear about you. I am a pilot for US Airways and live in Charlotte, NC. My aunt was Laura Volle, who taught 5th grade. I hope you are doing well. I believe your home was on main street in Vincennes. It is funny the things we remember. I also remember making cottage cheese in your class. Take care and we would all love to hear from you. If you want to write a note to the class, I will post it on our web site. Take care, Rich, "Dick" Finke

Hi Rich,
I really enjoyed hearing from you, and was both surprised and very pleased to hear that you remember me.
I have great memories of my 1 1/2 years at Freelandville. Your class was my first full-year class, and you were all smart, cute kids. You may find this hard to believe, but I don't remember having even one discipline problem during my time there.
After leaving Freelandville, I went on to teach 4th grade in San Antonio and Martinsville, IN. Later I went back to become certified as a high school math teacher, and taught math at a residential treatment center for adolescent girls near Baltimore.
After I retired in 2000, we moved to Martin County, FL where my husband grew up.
We are getting ready to leave Jensen Beach, FL for our "summer place" in Millsboro, DE. Please feel free to share this with others you are in touch with - I would love to hear from any and all of you.
I know that I have snapshots in DE of your class. If I can find them, I would be happy to mail them if anyone is interested in posting them on your class website.
Take care,
Susan

Rich,

Wow!  What a small world indeed!  I'm glad Mrs. Mallery contacted you!  I always wondered what brought her to Freelandville originally and if she has been to our small town since 1962 or so. I'm sure it would look a lot different than she remembers it from almost 50 years ago!!  It would be great to see the pictures of our wonderful class back in the 4th grade!  I'm sure we were perfect angels! Ha!

I'm printing this in blue & white for Freelandville, the home of the Fighting Dutch!

Happy Birthday tomorrow to Henry Bobe.   Have a great day!  Maybe someone will make you a pizza for your birthday!   I still drive to Sullivan on occasion to get that great Bobe's pizza.

Happy Birthday July 5 to Richard Finke.  Hope you have the day off and enjoy it with your family.  A big thank you again for all your hard work on the 1970 North Knox High School website.

Everyone have a safe and happy Fourth of July weekend!

Happy Birthday to Kathy and Henry also.  I hope you have a great birthday and 4th also.  I plan to watch some 4th of July fireworks on the lake near my home.  If I can get back to my dock after the fireworks, without some drunk killing me, all will be well.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL JULY BABIES

My brother, Ed, also has a birthday on Friday (July 2) & for 3 weeks we will be the same age. We would confuse some kids on how that can be when we were younger.

Birthday blessings, Henry! Kathy! Rich!  May this be the start of a great year.

Happy Birthday USA!  Y'all have a safe holiday weekend.  The Byrer bunch is having a reunion on the 4th at my brother Bruce's place.

How did everyone celebrate as a kid?

We were usually camping at Shakamak State Park and the relatives streamed in.  Good memories!  Some stayed, and we kids got kicked out of the tent (dad had a huge old army tent) and had to sleep in the car.  Bad memories!  It was hot inside, but if we rolled down the windows the skeeters got us.  And I always seemed to get the front seat, contending with a steering wheel.  'Course back then the front seat was a bench seat.  Not too many of those anymore.  Speaking of parks, we spent the day today at Spring Mill State Park with our grandsons Trenton and Gabriel.  Beautiful day, great fun, but my poor old body will pay for it tomorrow.  Good thing I don't have much to do except to spend time in the recliner with a heating pad!

My 4th of July memories are mostly of the celebrations that took place at the ball park in Freelandville.  The fireworks that Mike Land's dad helped set off, the homemade ice cream, a band after the fireworks probably the Corvettes.  And of course it was a great day for me knowing that my birthday was the next day.  It was like two holidays in a row.   I still think it was the greatest place in the world to grow up.  Happy 4th to all.

HI Everyone!  Happy Birthday to our classmates.

Rich, thanks for the reminder of great memories of the Corvette Dances in Freelandville over the 4th of July when we were in high school.  As a child, my family always went to Bruceville Rod & Gun Club for fireworks.  It seems like there were things to do during the day also, but my memory may be remiss on this!

Happy 4th to everyone.  Be safe!

I must apologize for not being here for a long time. My hours at work are terribly long on my new job at RC/7up.  I am on vacation this coming week...so, here I am.

I talked to Susan Mallery on Facebook. She actually remembered me.....(I know for sure), because she said I was the shy one in her class. I said..."yeah, that was me" !

I finally "broke-down" and confessed to her that I had a "schoolboy crush" on her. She was flattered !

My memories of the 4th of July celebration are much the same as the other Freelandville kids. The big (well, it used to be big) parade through town. Recall Alvy Moore (Green Acres) in the parade one year.................... the festivities at the ballpark and the Corvette dance in the schoolyard.

One memory that sticks in my mind is Jimmy Russell (Corvettes) on stage, sitting on a Honda motorcycle and singing a "motorcycle novelty song"  called "Speedball". If anyone is interested, my "music player" at my profile page has 20 songs that were mainstays of the Corvettes playlist during the late 60's. Have a listen........they might bring back some special memories of one those hot summer nights at the Freelandville schoolyard on the 4th of July. Oh BTW......all you old geezers.....crank up the volume !!

Can also recall a couple times on 4th of July, me and Ronnie Wagner playing  our guitars on Vic Hamilton's (anyone remember Vic ?)  front porch. Ronnie lived in Ohio, but his parents (Gerald & Barbara 'Fulk'  Wagner) were from Freelandville. His family always came home for the big celebration on the 4th. He and I have remained lifelong friends to this day.

I have a vague memory of a party ('69 ?) at my house (think Mom & Dad were out of town on vacation). That might have been the year they came home from vacation three days early and we had moved the furniture out in the yard and house was full of kids and........well, it was not good at all !

(Special note to Summy): Do you recall viewing 4th of July fireworks from  Rinsch's lane in early 70's ?  We had a "BIG" time that night !!!!!!  LOL

Tom,  Thanks for the playlist of memories on your profile page.  Those are some great songs.  I intend to have a cold one and listen to them on my deck tonight when I get back from watching the fireworks.  I would encouage everyone to take a few minutes to listen and remember those great times of the 60's.

A bit of sad news to pass along to the Freelandville guys.  "GRUMPY'S GARAGE"......for many years a Sat. afternoon hangout/ gathering spot here in town..............will soon be no more.

"The Grump" & Brenda Ruth are pulling up stakes and moving out to Pine Bluffs.  Sad, but true...

I also posted a video at "Top Videos" on the NK70 homepage of my wife's high school (Evansville Harrison) boyfriend and his band's appearance on NBC's Saturday Night Live in 1980.

(Forgive me....I'm on vacation and have nothing better to do with my time !)

One never knows who may visit our site.  The nice note below is from a friend of Brenda Holmes Deweese.  Even though Carol Hunter Adams did not even attend North Knox,  she still enjoys viewing our site.  I hope many others feel the same way.

From Carol Hunter Adams:

I'm not totally certain how I got here but want you to know that I have enjoyed your site. Great job! I am actually a sorority sis of one of your classmates, Brenda Holmes DeWeese and have so enjoyed seeing this class site.
I graduated from Logansport High School in 1972. Your class seems to have had a great time reconnecting. I was co chair of my 35th reunion and had a ball. My class had about 390 people in it.
I have been to Bicknell for Brenda's wedding years ago and just last weekend my hubby and I drove thru Bicknell on the way to Indy from Vincennes.
Brenda was one of my favorite people of all times! Tell her I LOVE her!!!
Best wishes to the class of 1970!

Tom,

How long have you worked for RC now?

I was down at my mom's today and I went to Freelandville to visit my sister and thought about that, don't ask me why.

Steven

Steve..................WAY TOO LONG !!!!!!

Tom,

Haven't heard that song in a long, long time.

Do you remember who sang lead and backup with Pure Prairie League's Amie?

Steven

I recall that Emmylou Harris & Vince Gill had some ties to that band, but not sure if they were ever members or were involved in the recording of "Aimee".
