Tom,

I will try to find the answer to that. I am working on the high school football magazine so during my down time I now have something to do.......lol

Steven

Here is a answer: It could have been him later on with the greatest hits version but it was a man named Fuller who sang the original.

I was just reading the Vincennes Sun Commercial and noticed that our classmate, Dorothy (Lucy) Moore Messer passed away Monday, July 5th at 9:05 p.m.  My sympathy goes out to Lucy's family at this difficult time.

No problem, Dick.  I wasn't sure if you knew or not.  Glad you put the obituary news on the memory page.   Thanks for all you do for this web site.  I don't have any idea how much time you spend with the updating, but I appreciate it.  Take Care!!!

Anyone interested in seeing pictures or video of a few of the bands that played at North Knox High School during the late 1960's can checkout the newest page at our NK70 site............."Bands of the 60's"....................plus interesting info about other tri-state bands that, although they didn't play at NKHS, you might remember.

Please check out Tom Held's page entitled "Bands of The 60"s" located on our web site.  I look forward to looking at it this weekend.  Right now I am off to bed for an early get up.  Thanks Tom.

Happy Birthday Jean!  Hope you have a special day for your birthday!  Enjoy!

Tom,

Thanks for the special page on "Bands of the 60's".  I was amazed at how much I didn't know!  I recognized the songs but knew nothing of the bands. (except the Corvettes)   It was a nice trip down memory lane.  Thanks again!

Thanks Jean.......Too much free time while on vacation this week with nothing to do. Back to work on Monday, so I'll probably be a stranger until next vacation on Aug. 2 -8.  I just got done putting the finishing touches on the "60's Bands" page.......you might wanna checkout the completed page. I'm hoping Pat can fill in some more info or remind me of some of the bands that I could not remember from 40+ years ago.

The only one I don't remember is The Guild, I saw Sir Winston and Tom Dooley both at the Linton Armory, I think with you, I know Phill  was there. Tom Dooley was a Mitch Ryder want to be, did a pretty good job of it, both bands were great. The Roadrunners come to mind as well as The Legends, I believe from Washington and of course , The Turks, they all played in the North Knox area. Cant forget The Cherry Spirit. More later

 Welcome to the website, Cathy!

Tom, thanks for the memories of the good old days of live bands - no DJ's!

GRAB,

I could not find any pics / video of Turks, Roadrunners or Legends, but I have memories of each.

The Roadrunners....you and I saw at the Rod & Gun on a Sunday night. They had heavy-set guy who played a  red Gibson bass guitar......just like the one I had.  Recall him "plucking" it on "Sweet Soul Music" (Arthur Connely). They were from Owensboro.

Legends from Washington.....had lead singer who stuttered when he talked.

The Turks (originally Young Turks)........one of the first songs our band learned to play (practicing in Boberg's living room) was Turks' recording of "Diane". My wife has lottsa memories / info on Turks, as her boyfriend played bass for rival band the Nomads. I believe one of the Turks (Chuck Dowd ?) was killed in an auto accident in the early 70's. I recall seeing Turks at car show at Roberts Stadium.....think we listened to them outside the Mt. Carmel pool on Sat. night, too. Seems like we were with the one & only "Bandwagon" that night. LOL

I'm sure there were other bands that we have forgotten.

Lu,

Your comment about dances with a DJ instead of a band reminded me of a funny incident I had a few years back.

At RC Cola, we have young college kids who load our trucks at night. There was one particularly "cocky" hip, cool VU kid talking one night about a dance  that he had been to and the DJ that was there.

I could not let it go.....so I let him know there was a time when I was a kid that we had live bands instead of "spinning records like you kids of today". He looked at me and said............Records ?..........dude, you're really out of touch !!! LOL

Speaking of bands, we went to the Childlren's Museum in Indy today with the grandkiddies.  One of the displays was called "Rock and Roll Guitars and Cars".  It was really neat!  And there was a live band playing, some teens who were very good.  I don't know their name.  They were playing songs like, "I love rock and roll".

Coming home it rained hard, quit, rained more, quit.  North of Switz City on 67 and on toward Lyons there was water running across the highway and water everywhere in fields and ditches.  I wonder how much rain fell??  I'm just glad it was still daylight when we drove thru.

Patty Grabbe,  Thanks for signing on.  I hope life is treating you well.

Lu,  Thanks for posting some new pictures on your profile page.  I had not seen Dallas and Shirley ( Jean Miller's mom and dad) in some time.  Everyone looks great.

Still 92 unknown classmates to go.  We are getting there slowly.
