Marian Sahr (Bullard)

Julie.....I will try to find the recipe for the rolls but give me a few days. When I came home from work Monday night, I had water all over the second and first floor of my house! I think I cried the whole night!!!! Then, I went to have my hair trimmed for a big Regional Forum I was to be a presenter at and the stylist cut my hair as short as a man's. While at the Forum yesterday they called me and said they rushed my mom to Methodist. Goodness, I think I have had my three in a roll. Joe....thanks for the kind words to the moms. That is onething in my life that seems to never fail me. Have a bless day.

A friend of my mom worked in the lunchroom and she told my mom that they added a whole stick of margarine to the beans-maybe that along with the suger is the secret.

You're right; Cyndie Chrystal Williams told me she remembers butter floating on the top--no wonder they were so good (but probably not good for us).

Collene Shoemaker (Lewis)

Joy, I do remember Zula and her burgers, and her roast beef on toast with mashed potatoes and gravy. Boy Mary sure could whip up some great pies!!! I had the pleasure of eating many meals with Mary, she and Zula both were amazing women.

Margaret: I always remember my mother adding several strips of bacon along with brown sugar.

There's nothing better for you than bacon grease, brown sugar and YES - always add a stick of butter for good measure!

Marion, sorry to hear about your mother and your house.
When you mentioned your ex-mother-in-law it made me remember that "Erav" Williams was a cousin to Collene Shoemaker's mother and my mother. I still see some of the Williams clan at Lost Prairie during July.
I remember her at our cafeteria during Elementary and Jr. High.

Joy - -

Would it help to rub a Zula Burger on your face? If so, would it be best with or without onions?

If you rubbed pinto beans on your face, would you be a FART face?

Dee, you're so crazy. :)

I just did something fun...I called Maria Seidler Atkins' shop to order something for my nephew who just had surgery. She didn't know it was me and she told me I should come in and see all her stuff. I told her I didn't live in the area. She asked me how I knew about the shop and I said from the reunion website. She said, "OH MY GOSH! WHO IS THIS??" We had a lot of fun gabbing and she fixed me right up w/ a gift. :) Thanks, Maria.

Beans, beans the magical fruit . . .

Nancy-that would be just like a guy, wouldn't it? After living in a household with only guys, nothing they say or do would surprise me!

Marian-sounds like you've had a rough time lately-hang in there, girl, you'll make it.

Thank you Nancy for your kinds words about my house and mother. Era V Williams, my ex mother-in-law was definitely one of a kind. She was a woman of GOD and we remained close as my ex husband and I have. We feel that even though we divorced, it doesn't mean we cannot be close friends. We, together, made all decisions concerning our kids. Kathy....My hair has never been this short except for my high school picture. I asked my sister to trim my hair for the senior pics and she totally cut it nearly all off. Several people at the Forum yesterday said they really like it along with my daughters. Oh well, just another chapter in the book. I guess I ought to be blessed that I have hair. My mother has worn a wig for 40 something years because she lost her hair due to dye in an IV. My house is horrible. I can't even turn around. The noise of the fans are driving me up the walls. The adjustor won't be out until Monday. But, then again, I am thankful for a house. People are losing their homes everyday. Thanks for thinking Stan would be great for the count down....I need someone to remind me! Guess I will coming to the reunion with my boy cut and my size 12. (Treadmill was damaged). What a great excuse not to exercise. haha Take care

Thanks, Margaret. I was telling my friends I'm being tested. I wish it would hurry and be over!!!! Julie, still looking for the recipe. I will ask my ex for it. His mom made sure we all had it.

Kathy:
I'll be watching but I've already got my McDreamy and he's kept me for nearly 40 years...wouldn't trade him. Some of us girls have been very lucky to have found the right one...I know you are too.

Marion, don't give a second thought to the cinnamon roll recipe-you have enough on your plate right now.
Yep-am watching to see who #200 is.

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

Hey Winona...hilarious! Most of us have lost our eye sight, and will not see the wrinkles anyway!!!! We can wear HOT PINK to the reunion, and everyone will not even look at our faces...I am going to wear hot pink toe nail polish too!!! Keep your eyes on the toes people!!!! LOL!!! Hot pink works... My goggles were hot pink when diving, and those sharks did not want to eat me...so hot pink is the color for the reunion!!!!
Dee...hot pink would not draw attention to your white hair...mine is blonde...I will share my "wash away the gray bottle" with you!!! Heh heh!!!!! You will have a lovely shade of blonde!!! Yipppppppeeee no more gray!!!!

Dee Allen...you are so funny!!! I love your sense of humor!!! I don't remember laughing at you this much in high school!!! Hey...you would sure look good with one of Mary Branson's cream pies on your face! We can get a chocolate one to cover the gray hair!!! That is not your Daddy on your picture!!!!!! Are you still going to make that deer chili?...you will win with my deer meat...pure protein??!!!! Hey...I am counting on you to head up the TEA PARTY at the State Capitol of Texas in Austin July 4th!!!! We can have a chili cook off and call ours REVOLT!!! You all think I am kidding...I am serious as a heart attack, and if something isn't done I might have one!!!!!! Then I will not make it to the reunion, and I know ya'll will be very sad!!!

Yippppeee Collene you remember Zula and Mary.. Janie and I liked them, and did not run them off. Heck no we weren't stupid!! Who would run off someone that cooked that great! Poor Mary stayed up late at nights making those pies! She was a single Mom taking care of her son Walter Branson! Did ya'll know that Dottie Parcum..Pam Marcum's Mom worked for Daddy! She was awesome. People stayed with Daddy, and of course they loved Janie and me!!! We were such precious, perfect little girls!!! NOT!!!!

Julie...I am watching for #200...let me know in case I miss it!!!

Happy Mom's Day~!!!!!
Love,
JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi guys,
I've been in Florida and without much computer access. When I left I think the message forum was on page 13. When I came back you were on page 36 and a youtube video of me was top center on the home page. I wasn't sure whether I should feel flattered or embarrassed. I guess it was a combination of both but now I see I have been upstaged by beans! C'est la vie! Thanks to those who sent me messages and compliments and whose idea was that anyway?
I'm proud to say I have caught up on my reading and am current up to page 38. It's all very interesting and entertaining but don't you people ever work?
I have to add my two cents here and there.
I went to elementary school in LaMarque and Jacksonville and I don't remember any pinto beans but I do like them. My children won't touch them. My Mom adds ginger to hers. Guess why?
I don't remember my first year French teacher's name but I do remember that she spoke French with a thick Texas accent. I had Miss O'Brien for second year and she walked into the classroom speaking French without the Texas and refused to allow English. I too learned to count and La Biblioteque and c'est la vie.
It's great to see how many of us have returned to the fold. Did we reach 200 while I was writing this?
It is sad to see the losses we have had both individually and as a class. My prayers are with all of you who have had trials. I have been very lucky. I was in Florida with my parents who are both 92 and live in Henderson, Texas. My Dad says he doesn't think he'll make 200. They've been happily married for 71 years.
Marian, I'm sorry about your house and I hope your Mom is ok.
Joy you are outrageous and ten years younger sounds great. Yesterday my 26 year old daughter told me she was getting old. I just laughed!
Watch "singing puppies to sleep" on youtube. It's far more entertaining than I am.
It's late! I'm tired! Good night!
Love to all,
Lynn

I have been trying to keep up with all the discussions but decided it's a lost cause for me. However, I am so enjoying it all.

Joy, Mary's Coconut Cream pie was my favorite. And I remember Mrs. Marcum being the bookkeeper. Your Dad was the best! But Sandy and Joe kept me hopping in the downtown store. They always tried to get me into some kind of mess with the customer requests. I remember one customer came in looking for what I thought they said was dish rags. I told them we didn't carry dish rags. Later Joe informed me they were looking for douch bags. Talk about embarrassing. I didn't even know what those were but of course he had to explain just so he could see me squirm.

The beans were my favorite! I'd trade the rolls any day for some of those beans. I've tried over the years to duplicate but have never gotten it right. I can't wait to see if someone can come up with the recipe.

Gerry Sue, if I had a party, you were invited. You might not have come but you were always invited.

Marion, I'm sorry you are having such a hard time right now. I'll pray things start to get better for you.

Thanks to all of you for the memories. I've not thought about "home" so much in a long time. It really makes me miss everyone.

Thank you Lynn and Judy for your much needed and prayers for my mom. My house is still in disarray but am thinking of staying in a hotel until they can start the "putting back together" stage. I will not be able to write again for awhile but wanted to take this opportunity to wish all the mother's a Very Happy and Safe Mother's Day. This also goes out to you that nutures the four legged "children" because in their eyes...you are their momma! God Bless You
