I had a traditional academic career--teaching classic sociological theory to captive sophomores--long enough to get tenure, then I gave it up to follow my wife's career as a social work professor and academic administrator. I did a lot of grants and contracts stuff, principally evaluation of human services programs, at Western Michigan University and Louisiana State University. I've been editor of the Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare for over 25 years.
We're at Arizona State now and most of my work in on the Journal and my own research on New Deal public works. I've published two books which you can see on Amazon if you're curious. One of them was reviewed by the NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS in November, 2007.
I hit the big time last week. I was interviewed on the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, along with a camel named Elvis, on the impact of New Deal projects on the St. Louis economy. maybe I can paste in the link below.
I missed graduation from Woodward because my parents moved to Kirkwood, MO in our senior year. But I attended the last reunion in Union Station and hope to make this one.
